Fantastic video. I'm new to Simrad, so this video helped me immensely. I'd love to see a video on customizing the display in various modes. For example, my NAV screen and yours look different. I would like to customize the locations and source data for each field displayed. I figured out how to change what data is shown is a particular field, but I can't figure out how to add a field to the screen. Anyway, thanks for sharing your knowledge.
Great video. Just bought a new boat with Simrad Go XSE. Is there a specific cartography that would accommodate auto/safe routing? We will be boating in SW Florida
Excellent tutorial and easy to understand features. Just took delivery of a new boat with GO7 loaded with basic CMap. Looking to purchase Navionics chip. Have you tried the Navionics Platinum + with satellite imagery?
The Platinum + chip is excellent and makes already great charts better. It has satellite overlay along with aerial photographs of major ports, insults etc along with improved bathymetrics and charting.
So I recently purchased a boat with the go9 xse already installed. It has the c-map insight pro + installed. I'm having an issue with the positioning of my boat and chart, not being accurate. I feel like it is about 20 yards or so off. Is this a calibration issue or something else? Please let me know your thoughts. TIA!
I'm happy to have found your channel. We just bought a new boat with Simrad. I'm used to Garmin and the Simrad seems more complicated and the screens are too busy and the bright yellow and blues I see on the charts are distracting. Hopefully I'll figure out how to change things to look more like Garmin. It was a surprise to see your charts in areas I'm familiar with. We're in Cudjoe Key so I recognized the places you mentioned. Care to give private Simrad lessons?
We are glad you found value in the videos. Changing to a different unit can be challenging. Let us put some thought about the 1:1 training and we will get back to you. We have a lot more videos in store and not just the educational/tutorial ones.
Best video I’ve seen yet on GOXSE operation. I’m new to SIMRAD and am thrilled with it so far, but also realize I have so much more to learn. Do you have any tutorials out on the use of this unit with a SIMRAD autopilot??? Thanks
Thanks and glad you enjoyed it. We do not have any videos on operating it with an autopilot but plan to do one in the near future focusing on the autopilot and its features.
Go to settings > Alarms > select settings at the top pf the page then scroll down to low fuel and uncheck the box. This will disable that particular alarm until you turn it back on by selecting it again with a check mark in the box.
You can use cards with the unit. The slot is in the back of the display so you have to have access to the rear of the unit to swap out cards. If you can get your hand back there you can feel for the rubber cover over the Micro SD slot and access it that way.
Thank you for your videos on the Go9,They are very helpful and insightful!I just got a new Go9 XSE. This unit came with a C MAP insight Pro and Navico Nav+ Two questions: 1.Should I install both cards? 2.Alabama’s artificial reef program offers downloadable gpx files. Can I upload these Waypoints to the Go9?
We are glad you enjoyed the video. You can install both cards but you will have to go to the chart format in the menu and select the one you want to use at any particular point in time. Garmin does recognize gpx format so you can upload those waypoints.
Great video! I just bought a boat with this Simrad and I use it on a lake. When I set-up a course to a Waypoint, it draws a straight line to that point over land. Is there a way to have it draw the route so that it stays on the water ie navigates around the land rather than through it?
There are ways to accomplish dock to dock auto routing depending on your model, software and charting software. I would call Simrad tech support with that information and they can tell you the best way to accomplish auto routing for your application.
Does the CMap max n have an auto route function like navionics . I recently purchased a Go12 and feel that there’s something lacking in the quality of the chart and not finding an auto route function is painful and inconvenient . Any advice please. Thanks
Auto routing (called Easy Routing by C-Map) is available on the new C-map Discover charts and on the Max N+ charts. Check c-map.com for more details. You can also call 1-800-424-2627 in the US or 1-508-477-8010 outside the US.
The manual says : "In the Chart and Nav panels, you can save a waypoint at the vessel position, when the cursor is not active, by selecting the new waypoint option in the menu."
The GO units will create a trail based on where you have been but if you are seeing a large trail blocking out your mapping, it sounds that you might have the structure overlay feature enabled. With the chart screen active, hit the menu tab and select overlay. If it says structure, select it to OFF. If that’s not it, I’m not sure what it could be.
Sorry if I missed it, but is there info in this video, or another, that shows how to use the mobile app for dock-to-dock routing? Specifically, transferring the data inputted on the mobile device to the Simrad unit. I am very new to using these plotters, and have always used Navionics mobile app auto-routing. I bought this unit specifically to do the same thing the mobile app does. Thanks!
where do i find a power cord to take this to a school to teach kids radar and have portable, I'm new to simrad, brought simrad go9 for my kayak and am fudging my way thru fishfinding, chartplot, & downscan
Unfortunately they do not offer a Ac power cord for these units. The inly thing that can be done is purchase a 12v cord and by an ac to 12v converter, or connect it to a small 12v battery
Thank you. When I go to navigation screen from the homepage, it only shows a box to input coordinates only. I have a Cmap chip In. Everything else is the same as you showed. Any advice ? Thanks
@@AquaLifestyle I will try this. Im not useing the C-MAP discover chip. I added the other CMAp chip. But I will try this. Everyone I turn it on it says to Continue previous route or to cancel and create a new one. What do you normally do. I’m headed to Biscayne bay tomorrow. Thanks @AnthonyHewes21
when you are mirroring off your phone can you have plotter or maybe outboard gauges on the sim rad and something diff like fish finder showing on your phone? Or is it literally "mirroring" only?
If it’s just a standard trail/track from where you have been travelling, go to the home screen, select waypoints, at the top of the screen select tracks, and find the one that says today’s activity track or the one you wish to stop if it’s labeled. Uncheck the boxes that say record. If you don’t wish to see it, you can also uncheck display. If you want to delete it, it will give you those options when you touch the line where the track info is displayed.
How can I fix my simrad go 12 when I’m moving on my boat it doesn’t update my location I have to drag the map towards where I am at how could I fix this so the gps updates my location by itself
I’ve had a go7 for a view years. Last Sunday it updated it self on the sea & I’ve lost all my markers and tracks. Would you know how to get my data back any help would be helpful thanks
I’ve never heard of this but go to your home screen and select waypoints in the menu on the left side of the screen. If you don’t see any waypoints, routes, or tracks visible in a list form there, it sounds like they were wiped from the hard drive. If you do see them, go back to the home screen and hit the gear/cog icon in the top left of the screen. Scroll down the left menu to CHART. Select chart and on the right side menu make sure waypoint, routes, and trails are selected as ON/dsiplayed.
Searching for the actual dimensions of the unit. It's a 7" screen, but can anyone tell me the exact face dimensions...I dont have much room on my boats dash. thanks!
Great video. One question I have though. I have bene using the pre loaded cartography with my Simrad. So I have all my waypoints/tracks/routes saved. If I were to change over to Navionics would all my waypoints/tracks/routes appear in the Navionics software? If not how would I utilized all my saved data? Thanks
If they are saved in the display's internal memory they will appear on the Navionics charts as well. I highly recommend backing up your waypoints, routes and tracks to a memory card for safe keeping. I know of too many captains that lost it all when they had a software or hardware glitch. The owner's manual will explain how its done (very easy to do).
question. how do you enable the go9xse to leave you the track / course you just took , so that you may just follow it back in reverse at the end of your trip?
You can access the tracks and track settings by clicking on waypoints in the upper left of the home screen. Once there click on tracks then select new track. You can set it up with a name, color and mark intervals. When you want to return via that track line you can just pull it back up form the tracks list and select it.
The lettering after the GO titles are a designation of what features or version of hardware they have. GO’s have been around for a few years and their features/options differ from certain years to certain size and models. XSR and XSE are the two you mostly see and the main difference is the mapping, sonar capabilities, and compatible current/legacy products they will work with.
about a week after putting in the C-Map North America chart sim card, and after using the charts a few times, somehow my Simrad came up with your Simrad is not registered. It would not let me do anything until I re-registered it (which I had already done in 2019). All my previous data, waypoints, trips, disappeared once the system was back up and running. Grrrr. I don't think this has to do with inserting a C-map card. It's the Simrad. Has that happened to anyone else?
I would suggest calling the Simrad tech support line at 1-800-628-4487 as it seems you have a software issue with your unit. Make sure you have your serial number available when you call.
Thanks. It is an important function so below is the directions from the manual: "If an emergency situation should occur, you can create a Man Overboard (MOB) waypoint at the vessel’s current position by selecting the MOB button on the Home page. When you activate the MOB function the following actions are automatically performed: • a MOB waypoint is created at the vessel’s position • the display switches to a zoomed chart panel, centered on the vessel's position • the system displays navigation information back to the MOB waypoint."
You need to explain what a selection does and not just say you can turn it on or off. For instance safety depth, what the heck is that. I can see I can turn on or off and put in a value.
Apologies for not explaining it. This explanation is taken from page 35 of the operator's manual: Safety depth "The Navionics charts use different shades of blue to distinguish between shallow and deep water. Safety depth, based on a selected limit, is drawn without blue shading. Note: The built in Navionics database features data down to 20 m, after which it is all white."
Let us know if you found a new tip or trick from the video or if you have a specific question about this unit or any other units?

You need to connect it to a 12v power supply such as a battery or a 12 volt Ac to DC converter. Simrad does not sell a direct connector unfortunately.
