This was an excellent tutorial/show and tell of tips and tutorials for the Microfreak You are an excellent teacher, and video producer. I hope this channel continues to grow as well it should !
I too love how much awesomeness they've crammed into that little wonder! My favorite feature with that keyboard is THE keyboard itself - I love how sensitive the key bed is to touch!
I was really disappointed when they gave the Minifreak a regular keyboard. The Microfreak's form factor is incredible. You can bring it everywhere in a bag it's like an utility synth.
I've had this tab in the background for almost a month, finally watched to refresh myself after not having used mine since v4. Upgraded and ready to explore, great tutorial!
@lesynthlofi You too! Made the first track of 2025 already and published it here on TH-cam. May not be much, but I enjoyed the process. Your video makes me want to purchase that MicroFreak, even if I know fully well I will not be able to play it in years to make sounds like those on the video
This is my first time seeing your channel....but not the last! Honestly I must admit this is most clever, fresh and inspiring video about Microfreak EVER MADE ON THIS PLANET!!! I don't know how is it in the other galaxies, but here you deserve a lot of audiences (me already subscribed)! I dreamt about having a Microfreak, I own it back in time when it first came out, but the quality of the sound really disappointed me...I hate it, I love it and finally I bring it back to the store. But today you're making me want it again man! GOOD JOB! STAY SAFE!
Absolutely phenomenal video. I can see you put so much love into making this. This is cram packed with gems. The editing is exceptional. Kudos brother!
Amazing video. I came looking for someone actually showing what this thing is capable of in the right hands. It's confirmed... I must purchase for my first synth to pair with my Push 2. Thank you.
Getting my Microfreak as my first synth in the mail next tuesday and this has been invaluable to me! I cannot wait to really not know wtf Im doing haha! despite the steep learning curve I felt like the grains and sample mode really sold me on this over either saving for a Minilogue or trying a Behringer Model D instead. I have a Launchpad pro to use as my sequencer and a Roland MV8000 as a drum machine/sequencer/synth bass and Im gonna be routing it all into a MX-8 digital midi patchbay and add the hardware to my APC40 +abletonlive set up. Wish me luck as I pray to the routing gods!
I have an overwhelming urge to dig my freak out for a spin after watching this. I didn't have any outboard FX when I got it and the Micro can sound a little anemic without anything to spice it up. I bet my Virus TI2's effects will sound sublime with it!
This is an excellent video! Very helpful and intuitive. Great use of visual feedback to help with getting descriptive explanation of the sound across. Cheers bud x
This is GOLD. I keep coming back to this awesome video whilst I'm learning my way around the MicroFreak. Always pick up on something new and important from this as I'm discovering the power of this incredible little synth. I ❤ it. 👍👍👍 Thank you man! 🫂
Wow, this is amazing. I got the MF last spring and honestly I was just kind of intimidated. I was very familiar with subtractive synthesis but found it hard to even wrap my head around the mod matrix of the MF. I’m getting back to it now though and loving it, and found your video so helpful. Great editing too!
Excellent content ! I love the dub techno kind of sound you play at the end, fantastic. I like to use unison spread on wavetable patches, it really helps reveal their full potential... I remember that right from the first firmware version there were some amazing things hidden in the wavetables (long before the user wavetables). I found sort of acoustic piano sounds, and later choirs thanks to the addition of the unison spread. Now that there is the Snap mode for enveloppe, I use it a lot, especially for bass sounds.
Nice tips for a really cool synth. Ive subbed to your channel. Seems we both really like sound design and synths. On this synth, i bought it when it was first released, it is a really cool synth, but unfortunately I never dug deeply into it. Ive dug deep into other instruments, but I like the microfreak.
@@mathematicwaveformrecordings Thanks for your kind words! yeah, I’ve been into sound design for a long while: it’s an endless sound trip. There’s a lot to explore in that little synth.
FABULOUS VIDEO My Man 👨 😊 Ive built up a Wonderful studio over the past 10 years and have some Amazing synths, but I must admit theMicrofreak has always been my favourite mainly due to the fact I never got a chance to do a year or two of sound engineering and learn synthesis but the,,Freak,, basically teaches it to you , like no other synth can !!! Its too late now, but as soon as I wake up tomorrow morning, I'll be rewatching this EXELLENT video 😊 Thanks for sharing Dude ❤❤😊 Jaffa Jenkins jams, 😊
@@barryjefferies3201 thanks so much for the props! The MF _is_ a great instrument for learning synthesis. I think you just gave me an idea for a future video! Thanks!!
Thanks for this, this is my first synth and will come back to this. In the meantime can anyone link how else to understand this incredible instrument! Again great inspiration & presentation provided
This is fantastic! I have one and like it, but always find it daunting getting into it. I'm much more used to programming old 1980s synths... Not that it's overly difficult to use - it's just I find it quirky enough to not go beyond the standard stuff.
Can I sync the Microfreak to a Behringer RD-6 drum machine? I assume I can, right? Thanks for this video, I plan on getting a Microfreak soon!! Just subscribed, too!
Thanks for subscribing! I don’t have the RD-6, but you should be able to do this by sending the Sync Out of the RD-6 to the Clock Input of the MicroFreak.
Well I ordered one earlier today to get here in about a week. I guess I'll just rabidly watch videos until it gets here! It's harder than waiting for Christmas morning at 4 years old
Wow!! Very detailed video..... in fact, quite over my head 😳 Found it interesting, but very confusing.... sorry!! Maybe because I'm not very technologically wired 😵💫 But I do enjoy messing around with this machine......... Anyway, the question I'd have is > If I upgrade the firmware and get all these new features, do I loose all the old / original presets?
@Michaelvan-g3q if I remember correctly, each new updated presets show up in their own folder, but I can’t vouch for that 100%. I’m not in MicroFreak land these days as I’m deep into my new subject: Moog Labyrinth
It’s always best to compare what the screen shows when you turn it on, and what is on Arturia’s website. In my experience, I’ve often had to update firmware on new synth purchases. It’s worth it (!) and you learn how to use the super helpful software librarian.
Hello Great vidéo edit. I haven’t read all the comments but il is possible to store spice & dice settings on to a new séquence but you have to work in arpegiator mode/patern. Read the huge manual :) Cheers
Very nice video! The only major disappointment I've had with the freak is the vocoder not working. Got the voc edition with gooseneck mic and never could get it to work. Maybe a waste of time in the end compared to your tips but not being able to at least try it is frustrating!
Thanks for your compliment! Sorry about your vocoder problems. I agree it’s not great. Any chance you could bring it to the store if you bought it new? Maybe someone there can help you get something out of it.
