I remember seeing this film in Perth in the late 70s as a kid......was showing at the local library/ civic centre, not even at a cinema...but stayed with me :)
Fair point. By this time the Navy had abandoned all the equipment and materials left there, and it was the property of Palmyra's private owners, who were probably happy someone was taking it off the atoll for them!
@@hvoght That's right, plus petrol had lead in it back then which made it last longer. Leaded petrol was also better for engines and gave more power, today's petrol is weak as piss in comparison.

How the world has changed. Could you imagine making a video like this now?
Watched this always with my granddad 25 years ago. Great adventures, great memories
Heard about this with my dad and his stoned friend! Finally got to watch it! Awesome
I'm miss albys movies, dreaming of the Alby mangles life style, chasing the horizon.
Watching Alby mangles always brings me such inner peace. It's what I wanted to do with my life travel
Definitely a bit of perspective gained. Thanks for posting..
"Hi, I'm Alby Mangels - watch me steal from the US defense forces and get away with it. I'm that good."
Just picked up the 3 full movies on dvd. Used to watch this in the states at 1:00am. Not sure what channel
Nice! I wasn't even aware they were available on DVD or played in states. Thanks for commenting!
It was the travel channel.
movies and I thought why I'd love to do that one day
different time different planet , good times old school
watched this on American TV in the 90's, on travel channel I think...the real deal, I guess most everything peaked
Imagine what treasures or grizzly discoveries they found which they didn't tell anyone about?
good chance of finding dead bodies
Man, what an incredible opportunity that would be to be able to live that lazy lifestyle for a month...🤘🏼💯✔️

Hah… Alby Mangles what gold. This dude blew up his own boat for this show.
No he didn't !
Probably not eco warriors then. I wonder what the US government thought about their equipment being borrowed.

Excellent comment.
Hmm.
Petrol goes bad pretty quickly.
Not sure how they would go with decades old fuel.
Odd.
Albi has been known to stretch the truth from time to time.
1970 so...not too long after ww11
May in a container that's been opened, but it'll last damn near forever in a full, sealed metal drum
