- On Wednesday, December 18th a 10 Car train of R179s began operating on the F Line. This is the first time a NTT other than an R160 has ran on this line, so this was interesting to see. Like the R160s, the R179s are also CBTC compatible and have been testing them before this entered service. Enjoy!

Most likely the same reason why an R179 ran on the M line first Communications Based Train Control testing on the Queens Boulevard & Culver Lines for future CBTC operations on the 8th Avenue Line & Fulton Lines. The entire fleet of R160A-2s & R160Bs will remain in Jamaica Yard & the R179s ENY & Pitkin Yards alongside the R211As plus CBTC will soon be active on the 8th Avenue line soon and I believe they just activated CBTC on the Culver Line I could be mistaken.
They activated CBTC on Culver months ago. R179s on the F (and E & R eventually) are temporary but the M will permanently start to use R179s from ENY. CBTC on 8 Av won’t activate til mid-late 2026.
Oh interesting I never knew that they completed CBTC on the Culver Line but that’s interesting you mention CBTC will be active on the 8th Avenue line in 2026 as I know there in the middle of installing it on 8th Avenue plus your right about the M line as the M line alongside the J, L & Z lines are based out of ENY Yard
@@derickfromnyc why is the r179 on the F temporary?
@@shadow_ruisuthe F is only doing it for CBTC testing for 8th Avenue. It will go back to the A line. Only the M will have it permanently.
@@shadow_ruisu Because the Jamaica Yard have over 1, 200 R160's, so it is no need to make R179s permanent on the F line. This is just to test out R179s on parts of the system that have CTBC like QBL.
Oh Wow That Very Nice That The F Train Was Getting R179s Train Cars Fleet Also Too 🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄
I just realized. The R179 was in a street called “179 street”.
I wonder if the entire R179 fleet will get the CBTC equipment if the testing shown in the videos is successful... Its only a matter of when it'll happen, though.
i had no luck today tryna find them
Well remember the F is a long route so it’s not that easy to find one specific train model on a long route
well at least its not the R. we both know how long that shits route is
