      The setup didn't appear to favor Ding, as he seemed to be as confused as Nepo. I'd have to say the outcome wasn't determined by one player's resourcefulness so much as the other player's predilection to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

    Actually, 20:38 is not checkmate but black losing on the spot. White defends with Q:g2 and is a knight up. I guess a nice move would be f4+, Ng3, R8:g3 and f2 next shall promote, but not sure about that

      It's a repetition and he showed the wrong rook I think. R1:g2 and if Qxg2 then f3 with check wins the queen. So he can only move his king h1-h2 and repeat. I think.

    Yes, you're correct black missed the move Nf3 and at the same time he played f5, that's why he played b4 threatening Qc4 to get displaced, so he may have taken the initiative to get started playing on the king's side, I don't know how is it possible for a player like Ian to miss this....even a player with a standard rating will not play this. Till that point, black has got decisive advantage by forking both rooks, and at the same time he has got so much time in his clock. I think he got nervous which cost him in the end.Thats why someone says he is blundered dude.

That's why we should always keep in mind never to make a blunder with a huge gap margin.

      @@simonkim8646 I agree. The reason it isn't quite as bad imo, is he had less than a minute on his clock. Also his fault for getting himself into that mess. Nepo's blunders are massive and come with 20+ minutes on the clock.
      Edit: he had 19:11 when he played f5 and only thought for 3 minutes before playing it.

      @12jswilson ปีที่แล้ว

      @@user-zb8tq5pr4x it's the quality of the blunders. An average FM wouldn't play f5 in that position and pretty much no GMs would play Bd4. Whereas Ding is making inaccuracies that are more reasonable, but Nepo is punishing accordingly. Ding's worst move of Rd2 at least happened with 43 seconds on his clock. Nepo just like against Magnus needs to stop the few moves in the match where he plays like someone 500 points lower rated than him, and it's almost always because he's playing too fast

    They are playing decisive games as a middle finger to magnus for when he made a big stink about not playing the chess championship because of “boring draws.”
    Because while maybe his comment had merit, it was not good for chess as a whole to have the champion take that perspective so far as to not play the championship and it’s insulting to himself, and every other chess player in the world.
    As if nepo or ding wasn’t good enough to play an interesting game with him….
    Surely if magnus was better he could play interesting no matter what the opponent did; I guess he isn’t good enough.
    Magnus may have seen this new style developing and seen how the meta of the wc would be wild and have been scared.

      What??? They're playing decisive games because they suck, not by choice. They literally can't make a normal move that doesn't lose instantly. Or do you think Nepo is intentionally going from -4 to +12??? Ridiculous. I don't think in his entire match, Magnus played a single mistake 1/10 as bad as any of the blunders in this game.

      @yossared901 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Lmao

    • @dm9910
      @dm9910 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Magnus made a lot of draws because he didn't make many mistakes and neither did most of his opponents. He isn't going to risk the championship by playing hope chess, particularly since he knows that many of his WCC opponents will get absolutely slaughtered in tiebreaks. You're asking for Magnus to play badly, on purpose, just to give his opponents a chance. That is not a sane match strategy, no matter how much you would like to see it.
      As for Magnus being scared of this "new style"... where do I begin. Firstly it's not a new style, you should probably go read up on some chess history if you think Nepo and Ding invented attacking chess in the last 2 weeks. Secondly, Magnus' current rating is higher than the peak rating of anyone else in history, and he's currently sitting 50 points clear at the top of the FIDE rankings. I really don't think he's scared of much in the chess world - if anything he's probably most worried about some of the up-and-coming youngsters like Alireza and Gukesh in a few years time. Thirdly, since you apparently don't know a lot about WC history, I should point out that we've already seen Nepo face Carlsen in a WC match less than 2 years ago. Spoiler alert: it was a bloodbath. Nepo held up well for the first few games, but when he started making mistakes, Carlsen crushed him.
