Cant stand how Discord servers have replaced easy to access forums I can dip in an out of LOL I felt every part of this
the worst part is that i have encountered these servers where social participation is necessary to continue to have access... like excuse me.
Keeping download links for mods, ROMhacks, and fangames sequestered within discord servers is pure evil
it's so annoying that its become so common these days

This is a genuinely worse fate than dying at the hands of Zephiel and Idunn.
Zephiel knew that one day the world would devolve in every download link being stuck behind a Discord server, he was just trying to do us a favor.
hector might be the luckiest man alive, that discord link was ACTUALLY still active and worked and hadn't expired 3 years ago somehow, without the uploader realizing!
i suppose that is better than the old “dead serenes download link” that I would always stumble into 10 years ago.

I mean, I understand having worries about people's expectations, but on the internet you basically don't owe anyone anything unless you've made some sort of plan with them. There's no etiquette you need to care about.
If 50 people are like 👁 👄 👁 "hey" you can just fuckin ignore them and do your thing.
I know it's much harder than that too, though. Internalizing those ideas helped me feel less like I owed everyone who talked to me my time, so I'm just hoping it can help ya. Sorry if you hate random internet advice too

@@_HamlerI reach the cap years ago when global emotes were a thing, I used to join servers that had a lot of them so I could use them in the servers I was active on, as time passed I just started joining servers of things I liked and leaving the emote ones, I joined servers for games like Terraria, the Calamity mod, Fire Emblem, Borderlands, etc.
To be fair I'm only active in 2 servers, one of them is the server I have with my irl friends, the other one is for a mobile game I've been playing for a year but barely play anymore, I mostly like talking with the people there

sometimes i have an issue with something and while previously i could just search the issue and find a solution in a public post, now i just find posts where the only response is "join the discord for technical help" like aaa
putting things in discord servers that are locked behind invites instead of public pages that can be archived was so much better...
discord is truly turning into a goddamn black hole for information.

Well to answer one of eliwood's questions: discord isn't archived or indexed or organized and a lone server may not exist in perpetuity. Of course that can affect any part of the internet. But the world wide web is wider than a discord server

Well. Time to say something that might make people angry. Honestly, I'm not gonna join a discord just for that lmao. That's a lazy way to get people to join a discord. Makes me want to just quickly get the patch, and reupload it to something like MEGA so people don't need to join it just to download a PATCH. And let's be real, people that don't know how patching work, should not even try. They'll probably download some kind of viruse with their 1000 IQ play.
