I love your channel! Having visited Penang many times, I never got to know the historical backgrounds of many interesting sights until now! You are the perfect tour guide. Kam2 Siah3, Many thanks!
Excellent info! I never knew about all this stuff despite being born and having spent almost three decades of my life in Penang. This video has brought back the many sweet memories of my childhood days there before my relocation to Klang in 1982.
Timothy: The altar you pointed at "3.58". Tiles of Mile Fu also known as the "Laughing Buddha", the statue in front is for Wei Tuo Buddhist guardian . You shoulkd know that Kong Hock Keong was originalkly built for Mazu also known as Tian Hou...she is protector of sailors and sea farers, the Local Chinese community wiouyld normaly build for this Deity to thank her for a safe passage to Nanyang. So Mazu/ Tian Hou was the original main Deity of the temple, Guan Yin came in much later...same thing occurred at Cheng Hoon teng (Melaka). It could be said in both cases it was a political coup with the Buddhists in Penang and Melaka having more influence and political power. What I have mentioned can easily be fact checked

Tim, very good. Thank you. I had no idea what was behind the main hall...especially the garden.
Glad you enjoyed it
