    For the record, I made this video by reading my notes, then I kept making more notes and recording expanded thoughts to splice in (sometimes while my 3 month old was asleep, which is why I may suddenly sound like I'm trying to whisper), so that's why there is some sound quality changes throughout the videos. That method also left me with some ramblings that didn't quite fit in perfectly anywhere, so there is probably more rambling in this video than the others. I also finished and caught myself having called Wybee's grandmother "Mrs. Jones" multiple times, so that's why "Mrs. Lovat" often sounds so clunky while I'm speaking (and I probably missed a few "Mrs. Jones" being used in the wrong context too).
    Sorry to say, I'm a mom with three kids, so re-recording to make a perfect, uniformed video series was not in the cards at this time. And I was too excited over things I had noticed to wait until I had the time to correct everything. But, hopefully, the thought process can still be followed!

    Has anybody noticed how in the beginning scene with the doll coming in through the Beldams window, the "sky" looks like how the opening of the well would look from the bottom of the well.

    Also to mention,to add on your theory.The cat mentions that the Beldom doesn't play her games fairly.What if she cheated to trick Coraline into thinking that she won the game.But in reality she's been controlling her.Also the other world has a different time frame compared to the real world.In one scene of the movie when Coralline travels back through the portal it was dusty dirty with spider webs..Thus creating the theory by the time she came back many years had past and her parents are actually dead and the other mother is now in control of her entire life.Idk it's just a theory😭

      Tiana Dmae well if the beldame is a fairy (wich is supported by the fairy ring around the well and the use of the seeing stone to see the reality of the other world) then what you say would make perfect sense for legend says that time flows differently on fairy realms, so people who spent an hour or so in there would return to our world to find out many years have passed.

    Coraline's mom couldn't have been in the other world before her. Even while she was exploring near the well. The door was covered with the wall paper. And I don't think she would cover it again to uncover it for Coraline.

      I think the movie has some points that make it very believable that the well is another portal to the Other World. The Other World always being in nighttime is a big part of that, but that opening scene raises so many questions that the movie doesn't provide enough clues to make solid connections about.

    The little door is a one-way portal, for sure. But that doesn't necessarily mean that Coraline is trapped forever. In the opening sequence of the movie, the Beldam receives and returns Wybie's grandmother's sister's doll through the window. The window looks like it has to be in Bobinsky's apartment rather than the Jones's since the Jones's apartment is on the bottom floor and that window is definitely on the top floor. These theories say that Wybie's grandmother works with the Beldam, at least in Coraline's story, and that the well seems to be another portal from the real world to the other world. So, I think that Wybie's grandmother returned the doll to the Beldam by throwing it down the well, where it floated from the sky on a direct course through the other world's upstairs window. The important thing here is how Wybie's grandmother got the doll back dressed as Coraline in order for her to leave it for Wybie to find. After the Beldam dresses the doll, she sort of holds it outside the window and just lets go, where it floats on another direct course into the sky. I think that the doll floating through the sky shown in the other world is showing the doll's passage through the well. You can't see how far down the well goes, so once something thrown down the well is out of sight, in the other world, it's just appearing in the sky, but the object stays on a straight course because it is still mid-portal where in a well's tunnel, an object would only have two ways to go: up or down. Idk if I'm saying that right, but basically what I'm trying to say is that the well's opening at ground level is where the portal starts in the real world, that the top window's frame is where the portal starts in the other world, and the well's tunnel and the sky in between the two is just a path of the portal. I say this because the doll would have to have been able to travel far up the well enough for Wybie's grandmother to grab it. Also, the Beldam just gently lets go of the doll once it passed the window frame, rather than shooting it into the sky or something. So even though the doll leaves visibility further away from where it's physically released in both worlds, the only way for the portal to work the way it does is for the openings to be where the doll can easily be released and taken, rather than the opening to be where the doll is no longer visible to the eye. So, once an object has passed either of those starting points, the only way to get off the course of the portal is to be pulled out of it by another force, like at the end of the movie when (supposedly) Wybie pulls Coraline back up above ground when she almost falls down the well. So what I'm saying is, if Coraline really is still stuck in the other world, it's a real shame she didn't get to see the opening sequence that we did. Because all she would have to do to get back to the real world is get into Mr. Bobinsky's apartment and step out from whichever window the Beldam used. Boom. She'd portal through the sky in the other world, through the tunnel of the well in the real world, and pop back up through the well's opening and she's home. Unfortunately this would be really really difficult for her to do, considering there's no way the fake Bobinsky would let her anywhere near that window and she probably couldn't sneak past him since he never leaves the grounds. Even if she got to it, someone would probably get to her in time and pull her back before she travels too far. Also, despite the portal in the real world being the ground-level opening of the well, actually getting out could be tough. The door is always kept on, so she'd have to be strong enough to push it open, but even if she manages to push the door open, the portal opens at ground level rather than above it. So, she'd at least make it to the well's opening, but she'd still have to pull herself up above ground, which might not work with nothing to grab onto, as the well has a circle of nothing but dirt and small mushrooms around it. I'd just hope that time moves at the same speed in both worlds, so that Wybie visits the well often as a reminder of his friend who went missing, and therefore has an excuse to be there to pull Coraline up when she comes through. This theory is all just assuming that the part of the other world that Coraline thinks is real still uses the top window as a portal. I mean, I wouldn't see why not. The Beldam would have to pretty much set up shop all over again in that part of her world just to keep Coraline in, so she'd still need her two-way portal. This makes a lot of sense to me, idk if it will to anyone else, but personally, I think they should make a sequel where she finds out that she's still trapped, finds out about the real portal, Wybie is there to pull her up in the real world, and she reunites with everyone in the real world.. Also, I think an apology from Wybie's grandma would certainly be in order...

    • @HopAndLockDropSoppityPop
      @HopAndLockDropSoppityPop 7 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      and ik that she drops a pebble down the well and hears it hit water, but I think that's just some kind of illusion the portal uses to protect itself. If some random person were to find the well, throw a big rock into it, and discover that no sound is made when the rock should have hit the bottom of the well, that person would call more attention to it, which would eventually turn it into one of those "mysteries of the world" things. So, it would be barraged by tourists, scientists and intellectuals trying to find reasoning behind it, which would ultimately lead to the well being messed with in one way or another that would lead to it no longer being useful.

    Have you ever noticed that when coraline is asking her mom to unlock the small door for the first time, her mom is annoyed and is tapping her fingers on her arm just like the other mother does later? I always thought that was a hint or something...
    It's also suspicious that the mom seems to know exactly which key will unlock the door, even though she obviously hasn't unlocked it before since the wallpaper is still intact.

    Has anybody seen 'Spirited Away'? Haku gives Sen (Chihiro) her clothes back, saying she'll need them to get home. In Coraline the Other Mother gives Coraline new clothes and boots, and we never again see her old clothes. This reinforces the theory that Coraline is stuck in the other world, and cannot go back.

    At the beginning of the movie, you see movers moving the Jones's furniture and boxes. As ms Spink and ms Inforcible walk up the stairs one of the movers sort of interact with them(watch for proof!). So how would they be ghosts? Unless the movers were ghosts too, but that doesn't make sense bc all the ghosts stay at the Pink Palace and you only see the movers once.Also Coraline's mother interacts with the movers when she hands them a doller bill.
    This was not meant to be rude and go against your theories, i find them mind blowing! I was just saying what i thought i hope you read my comment.

    I went back and watched the clip where Mrs. Jones opened the door. I noticed three things
    - Mrs Jones drums her fingers on her arm right before she says "will you stop pestering me if I do this" The Beldam does this when she wants to play a game.- She puts the key back in the drawer as opposed to throwing it somewhere else.- For a split second, when she says, "I'm really really busy!" You can see a nasty smirk on her face.
    So either that is the Beldam controlling Mel Jones, or one of her creations without button eyes that she made to open the door (given she works really fast or is psychic)

    • @bethanyknox308

    I think that the cat can actually talk in the real world after Coraline makes her first trip to the other world. The cat later on says that he's been "coming here for a while." And in the start of the movie when Coraline asks the cat if he knows the old well, he nods. Kinda like he was communicating. Also, the shape of the cat's tear in his ear kind of looks like a creepy finger, so that's another sign that the cat is working for the Beldam. I also believe that even if the cat is on the beldams side, he isn't talking in the real world to trick Coraline into thinking that she's in the real world but actually, she's in the limbo pink palace

    In the graphic novel, I believe that Bobinsky smoked tobacco and that's probably the case in the movie. The ancestors of present day caribbeans, the Tainos, believed in a ritual where they would smoke and be able to talk to trees or rocks. Maybe they're following that. I don't know if they are, but just wanted to point it out.

  • @hiraeth2864

    Can we talk about the fact that the first night Coraline goes to sleep in the other world, she seemingly wakes up in the "real" world? Obviously, she's a slight sleeper, as shown by her waking up at sudden soft noises, etc. She had to manually go back if she wanted to go to the real world. So it wouldn't surprise me if the Beldam realized that she needed to feel safe and keep herself from suspicion, made herself look worse than she already was, to trick her into thinking she escaped.

  • @darthchop697

    She ate up the kids' lives means she was feeding off their life force. Maybe that's why she didn't want adults, and left them to roam the Pink Palace, and she only wanted to feed off kids.
    And maybe the cat is Wibey's grandmother's father, that is trying to protect his great grandson (Wibey) and get his daughter back (the little girl that might be the grandmother's twin).

    Maybe her mother didn't want her to have the keys because like you said, Coraline was still stuck in the other world and her mom could've been her other mom and didn't want her to have the keys so she wouldn't escape or because she knew she was going to try getting in the other world again even thought she was already there but she didn't know. She also didn't want her to have the key so she would get them back and in the future have it and throw it away so she'd be stuck there forever.

    I feel like you are corrected about Wybie and his grandma work for the Beldam. The Beldam told Wybie to go and make Coraline find the well so that she could be away from the house at the moment. While she did that, the beldam breaks through, posses the mom (because she can make actual human eyes and morf herself but doesnt show Coraline that to make Coraline think she has limited power.) Eventually once she is fully in the mom, she tells the grandma to get Wybie and get him to place the doll down on the porch. So he leaves quickly and places the doll in the wrapping (since he leaves so quickly and she gets back right after, everything already placed position). It makes you think, doesnt it?

    To add on your theory with the mother going into the other world would explain how she knew exactly where the key was and how she knew which key unlocked it. Also to mention, that whole reason why the mother was disturbed and upset by the button eyes could be why she gets cocky and annoyed with Coraline because Coraline wanted to see what was on the other side of the door and pestered her mother about it when the Mother no longer wants to know about what's behind that door

    11:32 I've commented on the previous video what I think fuels the Other World (the souls of the beldam's Victims), so I think the Limbo Pink Palace (LPP) is what's fueled by the residents' belief in themselves.

  • @edennoelle5990
    @edennoelle5990 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    I think that after the first time Coraline goes to the other world, she doesn’t ever go back to the real world. That also explains why she doesn’t meet any of the other residents of the Pink Palace until she goes to the other world. I personally think that when Coraline is fading “back into reality” when she falls asleep in the other world to go back to the “real world” the Beldam is changing the other world in real time to make it seem as if Coraline is back in the real world when she wakes up.

    WAIT! I commented before on another video and i think that this adds up to what i was saying: THe Beldam took over the house while Coraline was distracted with her Wybie creation. They dropped the pebble to alert her as you said, and the Beldam became Coraline's mother. This is kinda foreshadowed by the typing. Her mother's typing is fery similar to the other mother twidling her fingers on the counter. So this makes me think that the "do not push" button really did have something to do with transporting Coraline into the Limbo.

    Here's a theory, if we go with the rule of three, Coraline has gotten close to 3 'people' (i.e. the cat, the other mother, and whybe) all 3 has an identical reason to protect Coraline but no reason why, even when asked, all 3 are primarily black ( either with clothing or fur,) all 3 hunt in their own ways, ALL 3 also appears suddenly as well, but we see whybe at the end as well as the cat and if we take the hand as well then it all starts to come a bit more together, a side note - have you ever asked why the button eyes are all black?

    Coraline being trapped the entire time even when she thinks she’s in the real world is very possible as in the end of the movie it shows her real mother but in the other side of the portal being disguised so Coraline would come back proving that maybe throughout the film the Beldam uses the disguise to make her real mother hated upon by Coraline wanting to choose to go to the other world instead of staying with her real parents

  • @andreah316

    One overlooked detail was that at the end the cat went back into the portal. It's a dumb theory, but what if the cat was finally going back into the real world away from everyone else? And if he could go back into the portal that way, so could any other animal. Including the Beldam. If the Beldam wasn't killed at the end, what if she came back through the portal. If the well was a portal, she probably got the key back. It added onto the other theory.

    I think it would be a red flag for Coraline if the Beldam made her friends appear. I mean, there is no garuntee that the Beldam would get everything right: the way they walk, talk, etc. bc she has never really seen them. And the Beldam is trying to make Carolines reality semi real, Coraline would definitely know something is wrong if her friends all the way in Michigan ended up in the other world. The Beldam couldn't logic this away like everything else by saying "everyone has other other friends"!
    With that being said, I think she can create anything she wants as long as she has a real life object to morph into that person. Like Bobinsky being a rat, the father being a pumpkin etc.

    I really think the limbo layer is true! Not only because of all the things you explained already- I thought about the real mother again. When Coraline came out of the Beldams place (and into the limbo layer but she thought it was the real world as you said in the core theory video) the mother said that it was only a dream. She didn't try to warn Coraline anyway!

    I think Coraline has freely been moving between dimensions until the button eyes proposition. If we ignore the opening with Mr. B, I believe we need to think about how the Cat says the Beldam doesn't play fair. I think Coraline, at the latest, succumbed to the Beldam and her complete control when Coraline said she'd have to "sleep on it" about getting the button eyes. I think the Beldam used the vagueness in her answer as an agreement to the button eyes. It's tricky but then again, magical creatures aren't forgiving in mythology. Look at the genie mythology about being tricksters. So everything after that point, at latest, IMO is all under control of the Beldam, we can't trust what we see. Idk, I'm gunna write my own additions to this theory... maybe.

    Here's my theory of the bed, When she wakes up to the real world, it isn't really there it is actually all a dream but she wakes up when she goes back to bed again, but her dream is what made the beldom see her dream BECAUSE she controls her world, it makes the world she is in [the beldom's world] causes different things to occur to when she wakes up from her dream, yet she finds a way to make coraline stay in the beldom's world.

The same goes for the Backrooms: When you supposedly escape the Backrooms you think you came back to reality, but your actually still stuck in the backrooms unknowningly

    What if the mom knew about the Beldam before moving in and they made a deal (when Coraline falls asleep her mom came and got her) but as time went on the mom realized how evil the Beldam is so she tried to keep Coraline out by locking door. Of course that didn't work and she and the dad went in to save Coraline in the end only to be trapped in a snowglobe.

    Another point I just noticed is that the beldam never tries to get into the real world at start but later her hand makes through and she herself is also trying to break out.... Now this also doesn't make sense as she was trying to get the key so why would she try to bash the door.... It could be a play to make Coraline scared and think she escaped from a close call. But the fact that the Beldam's hand went through while she apparently hasn't gone through before could mean Coraline is not in the real world.....

    So by your theory, if everything that the beldam makes is a carbon copy of an actual person who has been there, then how did she know how Wybie looks like? Did Wybie make it down there? Did the beldam always have eyes on Wybie's grandmother because the grandmother hid the other doll in the trunk for all those years (or the fact that the beldam doesn't really need buttons)?

  • @clairenew-matthews1920
    @clairenew-matthews1920 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    She says “I almost fell down a well yesterday mom” so he WOULD have time to find and bring her the doll. The rain could mean a new beginning, but it is also a transition into the next day...
    Maybe the trunk is a portal for the doll.
    Is that the reason why the cat is so close to wybie??? Because it is his relative?
