Todd Kenreck & James Haeck discuss the Genie Warlock in Tasha's Cauldron of Everything. These warlocks for a pact with one of the rarest kinds of genie, a noble genie. Such entities rule vast fiefs on the Elemental Planes and have great influence over lesser genies and elemental creatures. Noble genies are varied in their motivations, but most are arrogant and wield power that rivals that of lesser deities.

Fire Genasi with an Efreeti Pasha Daddy. Problem is, he always wants to rope me into the 'family business'. In the case of Efreeti nobility, that just happens to be slavery.

I play a fire Genasi Genie warlock, but went against the archetype with the patron - she's a Djinni, and they only signed a pact because it's part of the deal of the Warlock's organization with the elemental plane of Air rulership. Their relationship can be described as "professionally courteous animosity".

Not going to lie, switching to Genie Warlock in AL completely changed how I play. For one: Instant Panic room, which I've filled with a bathtub, 2 weeks' worth of supplies, fresh clothes, some books, and a Gnome Ceromorph laser pistol with 50 shots. Second: Using the vessel as a means for swift entry/exit from a situation or urgent healing. EG: Bamfing into the Vessal (a ring in this case) and allowing the Monk to carry me away while I heal from 1 HP. While a GenieLock can do a lot of damage, I find it a much better support caster, more so if you take a dip into Bard.
That, and I've got this idea now for a Soul Knife Rogue/Genie Warlock (Pact of Chain) build where you infiltrate, exterminate and escape by your familiar carrying your vessel away...

A dwarf who dug too deep under their hold; and accidentally entered a small portal into the elemental Plane of Earth...right into a dao's palace.
A tiefling who made a deal with an efreeti slaver...the tiefling gets their freedom, but becomes that efreeti's sponsor, inflating their reputation and power (basically, that efreeti wants godhood).
A sailor's boat is destroyed by pirates; they are only saved by the intervention of a marid. Natural storytellers, they form a decent relationship where the sailor will periodically tell stories of their travels to the marid in exchange for power to use against the pirates that sunk them.
An entertainer who impressed a wealthy noble so much that they offered them a job to be their own personal musician. The noble, turns out, was a djinn...who bamfed the entertainer to their sky palace. After an elaborate escape, the entertainer must now ironically keep a low-profile to evade their #1 fan.

You also don't need to limit yourself to getting their powers consensually you could be sapping the life force of a marid that was terrorizing the beaches near your hometown having trapped it with a ring given to you by tritons who knew it wouldn't have let them near

A human that promised an efreeti riches in exchange for power. He handed the genie a golden nugget that turned out to be a golden wrapped chocolate. The genie was offended until he tried the candy. They make a pact that relies on the human providing sweets regularly.

The best warlock, genie warlock allows the character to excel where the warlock is at its weakest. Getting access to wish just breaks warlock. Not a bad thing mind you. Wish-simulacrum is amazing for high level warlock play.
Tier one they get some extra damage where it counts.
Tier two they get access to fly and improved invis which they can do at the same time O.o.
Tier three short rest mechanics to give more spell slots and limited wish is just awesome.
Tier four as I said wish equals power.

A Fire Genasi Genie Warlock (Efreeti Patron) seems wonderfully flavored, especially with the added rule on Page 7, allowing you to switch your racial stat buffs.
This gives people an alternative option to playing with Fireball, as opposed to being forced to play a Pact of the Fiend Warlock in order to have access to that, and other, powerful AOE spells early on.

Ever since the Genie got updated to its current version, I had fallen in love with the subclass, and am jonesing to play one of my own whenever the opportunity arises. One question I did have though is in regards to the choice of default Genie spells - specifically the 2nd and 4th level spells of *phantasmal force* and *phantasmal killer* over *enlarge/reduce* and *polymorph*. Were the latter two considered too much as short-rest spells? I know all four spells were originally on the Noble Genie list when the subclass was first introduced in the UA, but I'm wondering why the phantasmal spells and not the more unique options were chosen.

I never considered playing warlocks before because many of them tend to be edgelord rp wise (warlock sold their soul to Asmodeus and is trying to get it back). But the genie pact has given me some new ideas about how to play a warlock.
A dao noble genie is completely focused on gaining wealth. So why wouldn’t a warlock literally buy his powers? Might be quadruple want a pre med student has to pay in student loans but the warlock could theoretically pay off their debt over time.
