    Aladdin is a classic of so many people's childhood! But you know as you get older you have to take some of the time you would spend watching movies by disney and realocate it to time watching the news so you can stay informed. Fortunately there is Anderson Cooper who gives informed takes on what is happening around the world! Now that's a build I'd love to see!

    Someone else to think on - Princess Jasmine.
    Goals - she's got to have a tiger. Said tiger is her friend, Rajah. Rajah is very protective of her.
    Let's get started.
    Stats - High to Low - Dexterity, Wisdom, Charisma, Constitution, Intelligence, and we're dumping strength.
    Background - Nobility - History and Persuasion.
    Race - Variant Human. Boost Dexterity and Charisma (she is a princess), and let's grab the Observant Feat (she notices things). Also, snag Animal Handling (it's a skill all Disney Princesses need).
    Initial Class - Rogue. Oh yeah - d6 sneak attack, plus Expertise on two skills (Animal Handling ought to be one of them), and let's grab Perception (expertise that one), Acrobatics, Performance, and Deception.
    Next, let's go Ranger - grab Insight, Deft Explorer - expertise Persuasion - grab Dueling at Level 2 and let's go to Level 3, to pick up Rajah - go Beastmaster. Now, do we reflavor Beast of the Land as him, or a Panther? Let's just go BotL to keep things simple. Let's go to Level 7 Ranger (boost Dexterity at Level 4, and Jasmine can now swim and climb with 35 foot movement) - Rajah's attacks now count as magical for the sake of overcoming magic resistance an immunity.
    Now, let's build up the Princess a bit, and switch to Monk. Let's face it, she doesn't normally wear armor, and she does have some Martial Arts abilities - even disguising herself as a guard in one TV episode. So, let's use a shortsword, at least initially (useful to get that added Sneak Attack damage, as Rajah will always be near Jasmine anyways), plus the unarmed attacks using Dexterity instead of Strength. Monk 2 grants Fury of Blows as a bonus action, and the option to make certain non-Monk weapons Monk weapons (don't think she uses a Rapier though). Also, while not wearing armor, she moves 10 feet faster (includes swimming and climbing). Level 3, let's go Open Hand, as it seems to fit her - but another tradition might fit better. Monk 4, Max out Dexterity. Go to Level Monk 6, and now Jasmine's punches count as Magical for overcoming Resistance and Immunity to non-magical attacks.
    By this point, Jasmine can heal herself and Rajah fairly well, and has a total level of 14. What to do?
    Actually, jump back to Ranger - get to Level 12 in that class - Rajah can make 2 attacks when he attacks, Jasmine gets Temporary hp, and let's boost Wisdom for AC and Spells. Also, d10 hit dice are better to have than d8s
    For the final level, jump back to Monk - and now we have Evasion.
    Pros - Good at noticing things, friend to animals, friends with people, and can dish out 5 attacks per round regularly (1 from her, 4 from Rajah, or one from her, 2 from Rajah, then 2 from her Flurry of Blows - depending on how one reads the rules), with one having an added d6 if she uses a dexterity based weapon, plus another d6 if Rajah has to move 20+ feet - so 5d6+2d8+31 (or if Rajah is making 4 attacks, 3d6+4d8+37), for a mean of 54 (or 62 if Rajah makes 4 attacks), and that's without critical attacks. Throw on some lucky crits, and high dice rolls, 123 (or 133 if Rajah attacks 4 times). Also, both her unarmed attacks and Rajah's claws count as Magical, and she can set up Advantage for herself with Rajah's help.
    Cons - Jasmine has 135 hp, Rajah has 65 (but she can heal herself and Rajah, and Evasion has its uses). Her strength's a little low, meaning that someone stronger than her might shove her around (like a certain Guard Captain before he realized - "Ahh! Princess Jasmine!"). Also, Extra Attacks from Level 5 Monk and Level 5 Ranger don't stack.
    Still, by this point, you probably know a few tricks, might be able to chat your way out of a fight, and oh, you're the Princess - call up some of those guards - not to mention your boyfriend, the tiger, the genie, carpet, and Abu.

    Fun fact, Aladdin is also an anime character, but anime Aladdin is noticeably different than Disney Aladdin. Aladdin is one of the core cast members of the series Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic, he's more of a full caster without the Rogue elements that make up the Disney version but he also seems to look and act like a kid (even though he's technically not). In Magi, the one that goes with Rogue elements is Alibaba, but he ends up getting genie powers later on in the series. And rounding out the core trio of Magi is Morgiana, she didn't have the best life before she got pulled into the adventure by Aladdin and Alibaba, a bit more literally than most people might think.
    Still, seeing two noticeably different Aladdin builds could be fun, you could even make a few jokes about how you already did an Aladdin build while making the Magi Aladdin build, which as stated above is noticeably different from the Disney Aladdin build.

    I would love to see an Aladdin (from Magi) build. He is different than the Aladdin in Disney. If he could be a Warlock with the Noble Genie Patron, that would also be nice. (Noble Genie Patron gives you Elemental Resistance. The other Genie Patrons control 1 element (except Dao who allows you do bludgeoning damage). So, it would be like controlling multiple genie.)

    0:23 They actually buffed the Thrown Weapon Fighting style to +2 damage, and added the Quick Throw Battle Master Maneuver that let's you throw a weapon as a bonus action and add the Maneuver die to the damage. Couple it with the Dueling fighting style from Fighting Initiate you can have +4 on each thrown weapon, plus modifier, plus anywhere from a d8 to a d12 depending on how deep into Battlemaster you go. Or! If multiclassing is allowed at your table, you can start as a Fighter up to level 4, then jump over to Kensei monk and suddenly your thrown weapons are d6's and eventually d8's AND they'll be magical to overcome resistance!
    I may have been making a thrown weapon character and this may be me gushing about how Tasha's and Xanathar's has finally made it viable.

    • @KevinVideo
      @KevinVideo 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's actually incredible. I knew about the thrown weapon fighting style, and thought that to be a good step in the right direction, but a battle master maneuver too? Great build. Overall, very happy with it, and you're now one day closer to paying off those student loans.
    I also want viable throw weapon fighting. The thrown weapon fighting style is a step in the right direction.
    I appreciate you referencing the animated series.
    Regarding the build itself, I'd revise it slightly so that instead of true strike you'd get eldritch blast and re-flavor the blasts to be apples (as per the video games), given him the Skilled feat for Animal Handling, Deception, and Persuasion (instead of a one of the ability score bumps), then take the Beast Speech invocation instead of Beguiling Influence (he talks to Apu and understands what the monkey says).
    The flying monkey from Tomb of Annihilation is a 'with DM permission' find familiar option, so that could be Apu. This allows for the pact of the chain instead of pact of the blade. However, if you want to be closer to the video games, especially the SEGA version, then pact of the blade fits better.

    Theoretically another way to get endless use out of a genie would be to make one very specific wish. Something to the extent of "Genie, I wish that you would grant requests I have with the same dedication you grant wishes without them counting as wishes, there is no limit to the number of requests you will grant and you will grant anything beginning with the phrase "___(This is where you would put the phrase you would want to use, I'd reccomend something not likely for you to say in casual conversation but short enough to say in a hurry such as "can you do me a solid?" or "Would you kindly?" for Bioshock fans out there)"
    To be fair, I've never met a genie (for obvious reasons) so if you do I'd be wary about trying it out since I can't vouch for it's effectiveness or safety.

    • @caeligocielo5634
      @caeligocielo5634 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Despite his strength and how much he punches things, I can't help but feel that he's a Wizard (School of Conjuration). The 2nd level Minor Conjuration feature gives you some initial alchemical magic, letting you make glorious, glowing statues of yourself as an action, and the 10th level feature Focused Conjuration makes sure that the things you make won't disappear because you got hit.
      The spell list would probably look something like the following:
      Cantrips: Mending, Mold Earth, Prestidigitation, Sword Burst (?), Thunderclap
      First Level: Catapult, Earth Tremor, Ice Knife (?), Jump, Longstrider, Mage Armor, Shield, Snare, Thunderwave
      Second Level: Cloud of Daggers, Dust Devil (?), Earthbind, Enlarge/Reduce (not in character, but if he could, he would), Hold Person (?), Knock (with you fist, when possible), Maximilian's Earth grasp, Shatter
      Third Level: Counterspell (?), Erupting Earth, Galder's Tower (a little beyond anything we see Armstrong make, but in the same general vein), Glyph of Warding (?), Haste, Melf's Minute Meteors, Thunder Step, Wall of Sand
      Fourth Level: Fabricate, Stone Shape, Stone Skin, Summon Construct (?), Summon Elemental (?)
      Fifth Level: Animate Objects, Bigby's Hand (?), Conjure Elemental, Hold Monster (?), Passwall, Steel Wind Strike (?), Transmute Rock, Wall of Stone
      Sixth Level: Create Homunculus (they're not as good as the ones in the show, but that makes it more sensible for this build), Disintegrate (?), Investiture of Ice (?), Investiture of Stone, Move Earth, Scatter (?), Tenser's Transformation
      Seventh Level: Force Cage (?), Mordenkainen's Sword (?), Reverse Gravity (?), Simulacrum (?)
      Eighth Level: Clone (?), Maze (?), Mighty Fortress
      Ninth Level: Foresight, Imprisonment, Invulnerability, Meteor Swarm
      Any spell marked with a '?' indicates that you'd need to reflavor it to get it to work. Remember that your fists are you spellcasting focus. I went through a spell list by level and grabbed everything that I thought might work for this so bear in mind that I've probably listed more options than you can have prepared at any one time. In addition, when I was looking at higher-leveled spell I realized that DnD outpaces what we see any side character doing in FMA. You might roleplay it as Armstrong got Isekai'd to an alternate world where the Alchemy works a little different (a la alkahestry) and the limits of power are higher.
      He's a Human, obviously, so I'd say to go Variant Human and pick up the Warcaster or Tough feat. You'll probably want both by the end. Intelligence should be your highest stat, followed by Strength/Constitution and Dexterity. Dump Wisdom and Charisma as he makes people uncomfortable despite being hot. The background could be either Soldier or Noble, depending on your preference.

If you're genie puts limitations on your wish abilities, then Limited Wish will give you everything you need, the now 14 in CON gives you the extra 20 HP, and proficiency in 3 saving throws rounds out TBE character better.

  • @TheOblivion5
    @TheOblivion5 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Day 11 and another character I actually know a decent amount about. Once again the video autoplayed so I got a sneak peak at the Warlock level. I hate it when it does that because it feels like I'm cheating. Oh well, I was already considering genie warlock levels anyway.
    Race: Human. Usually go with variant human but Aladdin is very much just a regular guy.
    Background: Urchin
    Stats:
    #1: Dex: He's a thief that regularly dodges the city guards.
    #2: Cha: He's just a really nice guy. And we need it for Warlock.
    #3: Wis: Goes along with trickery and sneaking around.
    #4: Int: He likely never had a formal education but that doesn't stop him from thinking on his feet.
    #5: Con: Like I said above, he's just a dude. No magic armor, no super soldier serum, no mutant abilities, very susceptible to stabbing, burning, and falling off a chair and breaking his neck.
    #6: Str: Should probably be higher but not really necessary and better than dumping Con.
    Class(es)
    - Thief Rogue: He jumps an climbs through the streets of agrabah like a monkey so this works, especially with second story works to help mitigate dumped strength. Substitute scimitar for your we... Wait a minute, he actually uses a scimitar, so for once it doesn't need to be swapped out, cool.
    - Genie pact Warlock: Pretty self explanatory. He's got a genie friend.
    Can you guys tell I'm a bit more into it than I was in the K. Rool video? Not that anyone reads this entire thing. Oh well, time to watch the video, can't wait for Tulok's explanation why he's a Kenku Druid.

  • @Idiotvera
    @Idiotvera 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    A cool image in my head is a warlock's patron manifesting to do things a spell does. A cooler image is a half-orc Aladdin
    Pros: better strength and con for getaways, relentless endurance for if you don't get away, better melee crits to make your sneak attack better, and intimidation, you befriended a powerful extra-planar being, I'm intimidated. Plus half-orcs are hot.
    Cons: You miss out on the feat, and a starting boost to more important stats.
    Verdict: If Aladdin was a half-orc he wouldn't have needed to pretend he was a Prince.

    If you ever get around to building Jafar, (Actually, make 2, for both Human and Genie versions, or a way to explain differences - Genie seems like a Fire Genasi - all that red), you have to reference the StarKid production, Twisted: An Untold Story of a Royal Vizier, wherein Ja'far is actually a decent adviser, trying to handle a corrupt Sultan, a naïve Princess, and let's not get started on that thief in the marketplace known as Aladdin (who is a 33 year-old manchild in this version of the tale). It's quite funny actually.
    Now, to build Jafar -
    He's Human (at least initially), so let's snag Animal Handling as a skill (for dealing with Iago and horse riding), and let's grab the Actor Feat. Boost Charisma and Intelligence.
    Background - Courtier from SCAG is fairly close (get Insight, Persuasion, 2 languages) and Court Functionary feature - you know the movers and shakers, and how the inner working of the palace work - useful for a Vizier.
    Stats - Charisma 15 (17 from boosts), Dexterity 14, Intelligence 13 (14 from boosts), Strength 12, Constitution is 10, and let's dump Wisdom (never noticed when Abu robbed him until afterwards, and let's not get started on that Final Wish, which turned him into a Genie)
    Initial Class - Rogue - You get to grab 4 skills - Deception, Acrobatics, Intimidation, and Investigation. Place Expertise on Animal Handling and Deception. You also get Sneak Attack - useful for those times you need to pull a knife on someone, like a thief you have no further use for.
    Next, go Bard - get Arcana so that he knows his magic stuff. Collage of Lore would be good. 2 spells to eventually get are Suggestion, for when you want the Sultan to do something, like giving you that diamond ring, and Awaken for Iago (reflavor a Raven to get a Parrot - it's mimicry is rather useful). By this point (9th level Bard), you'll also have Jack of all Trades, and Expertise on 2 more skills - Arcana and Investigation would be good, plus the following at Level 10 Bard - Performance and Acrobatics. Also, by this point, snag Performance (for obvious reasons), Slight of Hand, and Stealth. Also, bump up your Charisma, and then Dexterity.
    Now, back to Rogue - go Arcane Trickster. Eventually, add Expertise on Slight of Hand and Stealth. Keep boosting Dexterity, or, if you prefer, Intelligence. until you have 10 Levels in Rogue.
    Pros - Charismatic - expert at lying, and singing, lots of skills, with Expertise on 8 of them. Possibly 5d6 Sneak Attack damage in addition to what a Dagger or another dexterity-based/finesse based weapon could dish out, plus d10 Inspiration Dice (5 of them).
    Cons - Low HP (103 total with the average being taken), no spells above the 5th level, and if you boosted your Intelligence instead of Dexterity, possibly a low AC and a low melee attack hit chance. Also, with that low Wisdom Score, there's a chance you might not notice something, or get tricked by your foes into doing something foolish.
    Still, with your charisma, tell those lazy guards "Hey, You, you, you, and You! Grab that Street Rat and throw him off of the edge of a cliff, into the ocean." After that, work on charming those Nobles into doing your bidding. Also, you still have Iago - treat him nicely and maybe he'll be reasonably loyal to you.

    • @caeligocielo5634
      @caeligocielo5634 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's been a while since I last read Noblesse, but I don't know how well it would translate. First off, Franky is pretty OP, so it would require some real focus to get strong enough spells. In addition, from what I recall a lot of the attacks they use are pretty generic energy attacks. Sure there's some punching and kicking (and I think Franky uses a scythe at one point?), but mostly it's just flashy color blasts. The doctor aspect of him would be interesting (maybe even enough to make him a Cleric build instead), but you'd have to really stretch to put any of his work in DnD terms.

    • @alexbarker6968
      @alexbarker6968 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@caeligocielo5634 there's alot of op characters that tulok has translated into dnd, look at Gilgamesh and goku, you just need to accept that they are going to be a weaker version of themselves until the higher levels. As for the spells, I used to think that it would be difficult to translate them into his simple energy attacks, but then I realised it's just about aesthetic reskinning thanks to the Gilgamesh video. With the exception of ea, all of his attacks just revolve around shooting a million swords at you from the game of Babylon, but tulok reskinned damaging spells as gate of Babylon attacks. I figure you could do a similar thing for Frankenstein, and reskin lots of the warlock spells into dark energy attacks, as long as the basic foundation of the spell (range, damage, etc) is the same the form the spell takes shouldn't make that much difference.

    If you ever do literary characters, I know of a knight that can turn into a dragon - James Eckert of Gordon R. Dickson's Dragon Knight series.
    Basics - James, and his then-fiancé, Angie, are from Late 20th century Michigan. An issue with an inventor/professor's device sends them to an alternative 14th Century world, around the equivalent of 1346, if the age of the Edward the Black Prince counterpart is any indication when James first encounters him, while rescuing him from a fallen Magikian. An early issue has James stuck in the body of a dragon, but after he and some newly-made friends fight, and beat, the Dark Powers messing things up, James was given a choice - go back to Michigan, or summon his body and stay in this alternative Medieval world. *Obvious Spoiler* James stays, and regains his human body. After this, James and his friends have lots of encounters with the Dark Powers and their forces.
    Powers - Can turn himself into a dragon, as this is his big thing. Said dragon form, while stronger than a human, can't really carry a human weight around, nor breath fire or other such things. Also, any spells he has cannot harm people directly, but that's where illusions, restraining them, hypnotism, causing them to fall asleep, and on one occasion, putting the fear of a fate worse than death into the person's mind, come into play. He also knows how to heal himself and his friends.
    Needs - James wears heavy (presumably something like plate) armor, shield, and longsword in a fight, and is okay with a lance, but he's not good with all weapons. Must also be able to ride a horse (Gorp, who is more like a trained Draft Horse). Must also be good at talking to people, especially persuading and lying to them. Must also be good at reading people and investigation stuff. To be fair, Dexterity will be the Dump Stat in any way you build this fella.
