Good question, and there are very few places with grassies in Utah. Salem Pond in Utah County is probably your best bet.

Is this in the USA or are you someplace else? I live in the UK and love catching carp on the fly, but it is different as I mostly have to use some form of feed. Our lakes are very deep, it can be done, but takes are mostly on the drop with nymphs, big mayfly nymphs work well.

I’m in the US. I have quite a few friends in the UK and it is for sure a different sport over there. I know a couple people that do pretty well on dries, but usually they use bait in the surface to get them feeding.

I still struggle with detecting strikes. The end of my line is orange, and i find myself watching that and the fish, but i notice the takes from the end of the line twitching or moving. It's been working for me. Where i fish in Montana, 98% of the time, I can only see about 25% of their tail fin, so i get very little body Cues. They move in big pods and are very little by themselves, so the water is super murky.

That type of water can be really hard to tell. I sometimes use a little piece of double sided tape just off the end of of my fly line in this scenario. I think it lets me see the take just a little better and land softly. But yeah, this scenario is tough.

Y'know, I'm going to start calling you Professor. You have a BA, an MA, an MD, a PhD, and you're a BMF besides...
...I feel like I'm earning credits for my Undergraduate studies in Fly Presentation...
    ...wait...
...do I have to write a thesis?..

No thesis. Just catch some fish.
