Charlotte Fry and Glamordale - A Study on Rider Position

Her hands always go neutral to forward not neutral to back, very much like watching Carl Hester's hands, so not surprising Lottie learned that from a very young age. Plus she now trains daily with Anne van Olst, which must be fabulous! I thought a great example of the difference was watching Annabella Pidgely riding Geo in Kronenburg, you can really see Geo's head nodding from the backwards action. The harmony and partnership Lottie has with Glamourdale is just beautiful to see. The young Van Olst horse Kjento that she also rides looks like he will be another super star in the not too distant future!

I remember seeing Glamourdale on hilltop stables stallions page a few years ago and thought what an amazing horse he was. I’ve been following him ever since so it’s so cool to see them doing so well now❤

That was an excellent analysis! It took me months of sitting trot, no stirrups to get a really deep seat. It's worth the time if you have a horse who is mature enough... I loved hearing your wonderful coaching!

This was so fun to fan-girl out with all of you! I love how effortless her tempi changes look. Sometimes riders will swing their bodies around as if to say, "change NOW, change NOW..." Her body position is so rooted in her seat. Super inspiring!

Thank you Amelia, you are truly kind, generous, humble and SO inspirational to be sharing all that you have learnt and know. When you explain something I am able to "feel it" and able to picture myself on my horses ,"feel" and "see" my faults and have been able to correct, especially not having someone on the ground. My riding has improved significantly so my horses are so much happier . My confidence has also greatly improved. I was lucky to be there in London and watch the kur in direct and it was amazing! She is out from this world! She is very slim and not tall ryder it is all about technique!!! Wonderful horse! Ingrid Did a very nice job also!

They're incredible! Having seen the freestyle in Hernig, it was fun too see how much it's improved! Lottie is my favorite as well! Her teacher Anne Van Olst (Danish 5 time Olympian) also trained Carl Hester. Not sure you know that the Van Olsts bred both Glamourdale and Valegro. They also bred Kjento, (2022 7 yr old World Champion. They bred Everdale, now ranked 9th, making Lottie the first ever to have two in the top 10! Their breeding program is run by Anne's husband Gert Jan van Olst who has built up this breeding program over decades. Negro, Valegro's sire and the Damsire of both Glamourdale and Everdale, still glorious at 28(?) presides over their farm. My sister Monica Sinks and I were guests of the Van Olsts after Herning, where this pair literally stopped hearts. There we were told by Anne that Glamourdale was not yet a "finished" GP horse!

My favorite thing about Glamourdale is the extended canter!!!! I wish they could incorporate more of it into the test.... he is one of the most exciting horses to watch... ever!!!!!
Yes, the 2 Charlotte's really stand out as giving barely noticeable aids....they are really the best, and that is how they produce more than one phenomena.

Wow! Yes, my neurons were firing when watching her ride! I am a visual learner and got a lot out of seeing her seat and legs. I was very impressed that she has a single rein setup, no double reins. Not sure what bit she was using, though. I don't know enough about them to figure it out.

Try thinking about following with your elbows, don't think about keeping your hands still. Improving your seat will also help improve your hands. See the images inside a F1 car how the pilot holds the steering-wheel. It is important that the thumb and the indicator fingers are the ones who holds the reins the others are soft and only close to stop gently the horse. The hands should be soft and the horse mouth should feel like a "sponge" not to lose and not to stif

You have to try to understand that the position of the curb shank is determined by the length of the curb chain. She rides this horse with a loose curb chain.

I have a question and I've not seen an answer in any of the videos yet: Whenever I use my legs (when I press my calves into my horse, Im not pressing backwards but inwards), I feel like my hips are locking up. Is this somewhat normal or is it a flexibility issue or am I just using my legs in a weird way?

That's an independent seat and flexibility issue. Your seat should remain flexible no matter what your legs (or hands) do.

Charlotte Fry is a great rider, but not the best or the greates rider off all time.
She is the greates rider of this time.
Imo Anky van Grunsven and Isabel Werth were better riders.

Agree with your inspired take - she's elegant, balanced, quiet. I am curious what you think of her use of the curb with Glamourdale. It seems the contact with the curb - the bit is nearly horizontal through the entire ride - is pretty unrelenting. Not much "dialog" with the horse there. I understand she wants to keep him flexed and collected, but this particular element doesn't seem to change at all regardless of changes of gait or lengthening/collecting movements.
