I live in the outermost circle of hell otherwise known as Las Vegas Nevada so our summers get up to 110+ so we keep our A/C at 73-75F but most casinos keep it lower so that people stay longer. Our customer service is mostly better because our servers are reliant on tipping so they want to make customers feel “important”
Our house is 70 in the summer and 63F in the winter. We have 3 Bernese Mountain dogs and they don't do heat well. Neither do I, which is why I live in Minnesota.. :)
Texan here. I bought and renovated an all original 1965 farmhouse that didn’t have room for central air and heat (previous owners started with “natural AC” - aka opening the windows, and then put a window unit in just the main room later… which is how I bought it), so I installed the mini-split ductless AC system. I love it! I’m able to set the living room, office/spare room, bathroom, and my room at their own separate temps. For the most part, I never have my room or the bathroom units going at all during the day. And I pretty much keep the living room and my office set on 72/73ish. (I also have these amazing trees around my house that help keep it cool during summer, also.) At night though, my room temp gets dropped to about 62. 😂 I sleep with it coooold!
I'm one of those people who absolutely needs AC in the summer. Where I live near Sacramento, CA, it can get upwards of 105 in the summer. That said, I set my thermostat to about 75 degrees, not 65 degrees. When it's that hot outside, 75 feels perfectly comfortable, with a ceiling or floor fan to circulate the air.
Midwesterner here. My a/c is usually on around 70. Also, day drinking at your local bar is big where I’m from. Especially on Sunday Funday. If you think about it. There are a ton of American sports on in the afternoon. American football starts at noon on Sundays here with an occasional 3 pm game. Baseball is on ALL afternoon during their season too. It’s normal for the regulars at your local bar to meet up to watch those games and drink beer!😊
Never heard of someone setting temperature to 60-65 degrees. Most people keep it at 70-72. You can shut vents (or cover them with a book or something to completely cut off the ac in a room). It does work.
We keep our A/C around 75 degrees F. If I went to someone’s home where they kept their home at 60-65 F, I’d have to wear a coat too! I’m in Houston, TX, and without A/C you would be miserable. People have even died in the heat in summer.
No. 3 - Agree! I broke my ankle last year and ultimately needed surgery. For 2.5 months I was on crutches with a "non-walking" cast so grocery shopping was difficult. My local grocery store here in Texas takes on-line ordering either for delivery or curbside pick-up where you drive into the parking lot, park in the designated spots and text them the parking spot number and they will come out and put everything in your car free of charge. I love it! I work from home so "home delivery" was great. As they saw I was on crutches they would carry everything into the kitchen. Of course I would tip them for their extra service....even though they told me it was not necessary.
Come to East Tennessee...Great smokey mountains and Appalachian mountains area...between Asheville NC and Knoxville TN. You won't be disappointed, my friend! Y'all would never be the same!
Older American here, living in southern New Mexico, in , the high desert so I'm told, 3793 ft. above sea level. We typically get 310-330+ days of sunlight each year. It isn't unusual for outside temperatures to reach or exceed 124˚ F [50˚+ C] during the summer, sometimes it climbing up to 130˚+F. I don't set our HVAC system lower than 72˚-73˚F [22˚C] during the warmer months. That's pretty much where I keep the HVAC unit set all year. It gets down near freezing in the winter months. I should mention that my house, despite being 40 years old, is pretty well insulated.
In the summer where I live it gets around 100-105 Fahrenheit (not sure, but I think that’s around 37-40 Celsius?). Combine that with the seemingly oppressive humidity, it feels like I’m melting😂 It’s gets hotter than that in some places in the states and I can’t even imagine how that feels. I keep my A/C at 67 or 68 in the summer. I also have a ceiling fan in my room, so I can turn that on if I want.
I would imagine if you are born to a place that is job t almost all year, you get acclimated to that heat and it is normal. In the US most states have all four seasons so you don’t really get acclimated to one temperature because each season doesn’t last more than three months.
The recommended home air conditioning setting is 75 degrees or (24 C) set it and forget it. Though It really depends on where you live. One thing I will add, running the AC at 65 degrees will run your utility bill sky high.
Some (some) Americans do like to freeze people out with their air conditioning. I complain too. But on the other hand most people keep a normal temperature. And her comparison isn't really fair anyway. Sounds like she spends her time in a hostel(?) type thing? So yea it will be cold like that probably. Individual homes are different.
I don’t know anyone who keeps their air conditioner at 63 degrees. We keep ours at 73-74. We want to keep the electric bill down as much as possible. Plus 63 is really cold.
Ryan, you may not have her name in S. Africa: Feli is short for Felicia, and she says it "FELL-ee". The "central air" is always set here at 70. Another place to find pools is a city's Park District. Re. #13, if I were a young parent, or sick as a dog, it would be wonderful to pull up to the drive-thru to get my medicine, rather than go in, and wait in line while wishing the kids would settle down, or that I was back home in bed. So far, I've never used it, except for drive-in banking/ATM, or "when pigs fly overhead", pull up for drive-thru food, mostly for some ice cream on a hot summer day.
I have watched several of this clips about living here and I think, because we are a relatively young country we appeal to a younger generation. European countries have been around much longer and have an older culture. I'm 63 and would love the European lifestyle, whereas America appeals to the youth
I'm proud to say she (Feli) is right here in my hometown of Cincinnati. She is almost always on-target. She is also a knowledgeable representative of Cincinnati - which is a great, medium-sized metro of 2 and a quarter million people, or with the metroplex including Dayton-Springfield, it's 3.3 million people, and a wonderful place to live and prosper.
She's on target for that neck of the woods. But she is usually wrong about the rest of the US, but she often speaks for the rest of the US. (i.e. America instead of Cincinnati, or even the Great Lakes or Ohio basin which would be closer.)
Two comments: 1) I think you'd appreciate watching BOATLIFT - An Untold Tale of 9/11. 2) I think a lot of us have no idea what it's like to live in South Africa these days. Maybe you can peel back that curtain for us sometime.
When it comes to the AC super cold it's the American women generally who are to blame. My mother, my daughter and both of my ex wives all acted like they were going to melt at any temperature over 65°F. Most American men are just fine with temps in the 70s. Because we aren't crazy.
I think I'm abnormal for most Americans, but I hate when AC is kept super low and, like Feli, hate having to dress for multiple seasons during summer because it's sooo cold inside everywhere. I prefer somewhere between 72-75 F usually, but most people I know prefer between 65-70 F.
Public pools are NOT common. You will find ones at a few parks and at the YMCA but that's it. That "lease for a year" is not true, maybe the one place she rented did that but I have NEVER heard of that ever being a thing. But leasing apts or houses is not a thing at all around here, we rent. There is no lease.
Of course it's different in different places. A lease is common where I live, but you can find month to month places as well. Pools are everywhere here. There's a huge public pool down at the beach of all places. LOL High schools, colleges, parks, there's one at the mall etc...everywhere.
They are if you live in any kind of populated area...maybe out in South Dakota they don't have them.. but anywhere there is a decent amount of people they have them.

That's fine but she listed the most ridiculous things such as banking in Germany is more advanced, people don't use checks and get paid electronically 😮😮😮 She had been living in old cheap apartments and she was complaining about shower heads in bathrooms. There's another Utuber who also lived in cheap apartments and was describing those as the best available in the US. Shortsighted. 👎

68* - 72* if the AC is on at home. But right now we only use a portable for the bedroom when it gets humid, which isn't very often where I live.
