It's not a 1 on 1 cover, it's a tribute to Pink Floyd. They made it their own, more up tempo and rockier. Marko puts so much more emotions in it than in the original Floyd version, , amazing.
Emppu is one of worlds most underrated guitarplayers, he's phenomenal and always humble. hanks guys (this was a hard night, they fired Tarja, the first singer after this concert)

This is more like a tribute than a cover. Nightwish made it totally its own. It is pointless to argue which version is better..... this is better, haha
And yes 'kiitos' means thank you in Finnish

I'm sorry, but just no. I enjoy this version, but it can't measure up to the original and the lap steel guitar solo.

Marko also covered War Pigs, from Black Sabbath, on his solo gig, early last year. There's a great video of it out there.
About this one, it's obvious people check it out for Marko's vocals, which are incredible, but Emppu's guitar playing gets me everytime, especially the second solo.

Sir David Gilmour of Pink Floyd said that they're cover was better than how they performed the original, when Tuomas got notion of this he answered "it isn't a cover, it's a tribute."! High hopes in it's original version is a calmer, slower song wich got defenitely nightwished! Sidenote is that during this concert Jukka had a numbing migraine due to his insomnia but still managed to remain the beast he is/was on drums. His condition wasn't very well and they almost wanted to close the concert and the tour, but he didn't want that, if that isn't dedication, what is? You can see him bend over his set one moment and you can even see Tuomas noding at Emppu to inform if things went well enough, later on you see Emppu jumping off the drumpodium after asking Jukka if everything was ok. Btw, I like both versions of the song, Ive known the original version for a long time but only got to know the nightwish tribute recently and due to my preferences, the nightwishversion is the most favourite.

This gem is from Hartwall Arena concert (End of an Era, 2005), the last show with Tarja. Very impressive performance from the band and especially from Marko. He's an outstanding figure. I've bought the the ticket to their upcoming live stream shows. Who on Earth will come to replace him? Very exciting. Thank you! ⛄👍

*I liked the original Pink Floyd-Version, which, if I remember correct, was released in the Autumn of 1994, from the first time I heard it on the radio very much. The Nightwish version is clearly my favourite version, because it's Nightwish and Nightwish is among the bands, which are the closest to my heart.*

This is the best way to do a tribute - metallize it, and show the potential of a great song. And leave the guitar tones to Emppu - he is a beast and a super performer.
    Great, just great

    Facts and fun facts
Tarja was the vocalist, she wasn't aware it would be her last gig, during High hopes she was changing her costume. Jukka was holding his head because of migraine bought on by insomnia bought on by depression, he would eventually stop apart from the occasional guest spot, playing.
The bells on Toumas's finger nails and the Jack Sparrow on the keyboard.
Notice the subtle homage to pink Floyd, the circle above Jukka.
    Yes he said Thank you

one of my favorite cover songs ever... because it is more of a tribute. the original will always be the original, so to simply copy it doesn't really do the song justice nor does it add to what the public has to consume... but when a talented band like NW steps in, changes the instrumentation, alters the arrangement, and reimagines the song in their way with their flair/style/sound that's what really makes a "cover" great. it's an original in its own right now, based off the Pink Floyd version. When this happens, it shows us two things... the talent in the band doing the cover sure, but also the magic of the original composition... that you could take a slow song and make it fast, or a country song and turn it pop... or a pop song now metal. if the original composition was great... it will stand up, but it takes some talent to take that composition and make the "correct" changes to make the reimagined version work... like this one does. Metal Mozart doing his thing... again.

The original vocal by David Gilmour is regretful, but wistful in that "terribly English" way (I'm English, so I recognise it) - but Marko's vocal is more angry, given what was about to happen after the show.

I’m a huge Floyd fan, but I agree, this is better than the original, I was never in love with the Floyd version. However, David Gilmour did perform a quite wonderful stripped down version at the Meltdown Concert in 2002 which I absolutely love. An interesting piece of trivia is that the cellist on the Gilmour version, Caroline Dale, is the same cellist that Nightwish used for Human Nature. th-cam.com/video/lgE-FNhHy54/w-d-xo.html

Pink Floyd and Nightwish are the best rock and metal symphonic bands ever. Both performances of High Hopes are brilliant. Unfortunately Marko Hietala is no longer part of Nightwish, unique person with his raspy voice, and they will sure miss him. Nevertheless I am positive Nightwish will succeed to go on and will reach their high music level again as shown in the recent decades.

Nightwish have always been absolutely great.
Now , I’d like you to probably go outside your preferred music genre & take a look at a very young Soprano who won Holland’s Got Talent at the age of nine, & incredibly, without a single singing lesson. She actually taught herself to sing Opera by watching the likes of Pavarotti on uTube videos. How can anyone teach themselves Opera, including vibrato at that age?
Her name is Amira Willighagen, born in Holland & now residing in South Africa & will be 17 next month.( March )
Amira has performed in some 13 countries and sung in at least 5 languages, & her concert performances have been to a packed auditorium supported by a full orchestra and backup singers. This young lady will not only blow you away, she already is one of the best Sopranos & will no doubt become a legend.
To start, the following are just some of her performances you could react to.
.... O Mio Babbino Caro. Performed on the invitation of the world renown musician/ conductor Andre Rieu at Maastricht with an audience of 15,000 people who ALL gave her a standing ovation. Amira was 10 in this performance.
... “concert” performance of Nella Fantasia. Aged 12
... “Concert” performance of Gabriella’s Song. aged 14
... Ave Maria by “Gomez “ at Canisius Church. Aged 11
I know that this is a rather long post, but this is one talent you really shouldn’t miss. Once you’ve reacted to Amira, you’ll want more... guaranteed.
Thanks, & hope to hear from you soon.

    • @graemeblackburn7511
      @graemeblackburn7511 3 ปีที่แล้ว

Hi there. About 2 months ago, I sent a rather long post regarding a young Soprano singer by the name of Amira Willighagen.
I’m wondering if a/ you’re interested & b/ Whether you have placed her on your ever growing request listing.
Nearly everyone has heard of, and reacted to, Angelina Jordon, but being a Soprano, Amira is, unfortunately, reacted to less frequently. However, their careers nearly mirror each other, even down to their amazing philanthropic attributes. Their only real difference is their music genre. Both are so magnificently talented.
Nearly verify reactor that has reacted to Amira has been blown away, & have come back to her again & again, and I’m hoping that you will join them in their admiration for this young lady with the voice of an angel.
Should you want her performance details again, please advise.
Cheers. Graeme. ps. I recommend very few artists to Reactors, but this one is the top of my list.

Yea, well.. it's hard to say this is a cover.. I heard people say it's a tribute remake to Pink Floyd's "High Hopes".. I think that could be more accurate.. Because this is not much like the original super mellow, kind of spacey, Pink Floyd style... If I want to be hyped and charged up, it's the Nightwish version of this for me.. If I want to mellow out, get back to that old feeling like I just dropped some acid, then it's definitely the Pink Floyd version..

This is a great cover/tribute to Pink Floyd. To say "it's better" is not correct in my opinion. The highlight of this song is Marco's vocal; the highlight of the original song is not David Gilmour's vocal but his soulful guitar. Neither is "better" than the other; they're different and both great. If you don't know the original one it's well worth a reaction.

I don't think it's better but different, the Pink Floyd version is more melancholic, the NW versión is more angrier and dark, to me Pink Floyd idea was "Oh i remember the old times with my friends, such good moments" and the NW version was like "Hell that times were much better than my life right now, where are they gone??".... I prefer the NW version because i don't really care about the "good old times" but for some people it's the other way so it's fine ;)

    • @dax87434
      @dax87434 3 ปีที่แล้ว

@@AoshiSama21 I think for me it's the history and significance of the song's final words being the last from Pink Floyd and really other than the endless river the last new material that they put out. The "good old times" as you put it were 20+ years of shared experiences and the album is a reflection of that and the break from Roger Waters in '85.
Night Wish did a good job with it no doubt, it just felt overly theatrical (Broadwayesque) to me personally. Then again that's what NW is. Big and bold. Also that was my first time hearing their version of it. So this is more of the raw reaction to that as a Floydian metal head
