- Bentley the calf was born with a condition that made it so that he didn't know how to eat and wasn't interested in eating. In order to help him learn, his rescuers introduced him to a cow named Stanley with a similar condition!

Maybe, when they met, Stanley told Bentley he would grow big and strong IF he ate some food. He did start eating right afterwards. Coincidence? Only the cows know for sure!

Haha! This reminds me of spending thanksgiving with my 5 nephews who were all 8 and under and very picky eaters who all said they don’t like turkey. I talked with them about the importance of protein and thought they would care. I mentioned that protein is one thing necessary for muscle growth. That night they all ate turkey. Only one of them didn’t like it. My 4 year old nephew was convinced that his muscles grew right then and there! 🥰 then they all went to look into the mirror lol.

That's such a weird condition. You would think EATING would be like just a natural instinct. Poor baby, but I'm glad he was found.

Human babies actually have a similar issue called "failure to thrive" where they will refuse to eat. It's not always caused by oxygen deprivation, and in many cases there's no known cause.
What if he was depressed because none of his kind could understand him, and he couldn't understand them, but then he met someone who could understand and at that moment he opened up? Animals have feelings just like humans. Humans are animals.

I miss hugging baby cows, We sent our baby cow to an animal sanctuary ,she is safe and happy there with other cows, when we went to visit her a fews months later after sending her it was very emotional for me to see her playing like Stanly with the other cows 😭❤
Just goes to show, the primal need of every living creature is love! ❤ Next comes comes food, shelter, and the rest. Bentley's challenge was an emotional one.

Rescue persons have to be Mom, Dad, Doctor, Chef, Dietician, Carer and Trouble Shooter for problems.Thank you for trying different methods until the munchkin caught on and realized eating is a good thing. Cheers!

Cows are here animals and have very complex families. They are all different and have personalities. One mother may be a good auntie and cares for other calves. Other mothers are very good at child rearing. Never isolate a cow, it makes them listless and sad. Cows are here animals. Very very intelligent and complex. The cow is the heart of a farm and is essential for the health of farm diversity . All things in balance, never an industrial proposition.

Poor things, its no wonder so many have this illness. Calves are separated from their mothers who are slaughtered. Its beautiful that rescued him.
Actually I believe that the mothers are breeding stock and the males once grown to a certain age and size are sent to slaughter. Except for the breeding bulls.
You’ve got it backwards. No farmer is slaughtering a healthy heifer post-birth. A post-birth cow is doing exactly what a farmer needs (either making new cows or being primed for milking). It’s the calves who are economically less valuable to farmers (especially male calves) and are often first in line for slaughter.
But in this case specifically, it makes _no sense_ to imply that with Stanley. Stanley’s a mix breed (he’s literally only part cow) meaning he isn’t from a commercial meat or dairy farm. He’s from a smaller holding or a hobby farm, would ALSO not be slaughtering healthy cows post-birth. Separation is a strong possibility, but his diagnosis indicates he wouldn’t have nursed regardless of circumstances (he has no hunger signals or does not recognize them due to his disability).

Love is very powerful. Having taken care of boarding dogs and cats, I’ve seen them sometimes shut down because they miss their family. Sometimes they wouldn’t even eat. So I gave those individuals extra attention, sometimes feeding them right out of my hand. It usually worked. Seeing the difference in them showed me how important love really is; as important as food and water.
It was a tough call but successful was on the rise, ladies you are the best! Lucky animals!

Just adorable 😍! I think calves are just so cute! This story brightened my day so much. I love that they Bentley and Stanley are such good friends and brought the best in each other. I grew up on a cattle & grain farm in in the province of Alberta in Canada. I never hear of Dummy Calf Syndrome. I know that's not the technical name but this is why I love watching The Dodo.
