Thank you for all your hard work and detail on the video. Many don't realize the 'time-dedication' you have to put forth to make something like this. Great job!
Hello Kirk, Thank you for your comment. Yes, it's a lot of work. But since I was building the antenna for myself, I would have done it anyway. But for the video, that's another thing, hihi. I was alone most of the time and I didn’t have any cameraman, but I wanted to focus on the antenna assembly, so I used several fixed 4K cameras to capture the steps with an average of 2 cameras. This means that I had to edit more than 500 TB of 4K videos in post-production! So, you're right, it's a lot of work. Thanks for pointing this out, hope this video will be useful to others. Nice job done! I'm learning French and I found your channel by accident searching for some ham related videos in French. It's good to have it bilingual😃 Vy73's hope to catch you on air de F4VSQ/SQ6MS (thumbs up of course)
Gday Pascal, I'm waiting for mine to arrive ex USA. My mate, VK2MIX is as well. We have both watched you videos a few times. Great videos, and with the manual makes for an easy build cheers for doing it. Hope to QSO on air soon Beam to Beam.....73 VK6MMB.
Great video! Great presentation. I am a learn by watching kind of guy! I really wish they had used some other type of connector(s) though. In my working career (40 years) the last 18 or so working on equipment that used Phoenix connectors....these green ones....they were a source of trouble. Needing to be re-seated to regain contact and this was indoors in a controlled environment. Word of advice...NEVER!! NEVER!! use any kind of contact cleaner spray on these! They will dissolve right before your very eyes in seconds!
OK..now that some time has gone by....Can you comment on the actual usage of the beam....Does it fulfill your need? Does it perform well? Generally how well is the actual swr match at the frequency your using? Will I be able to totally bypass my tuner when using my amp? Again..thanks for all the work making the video!!
No tuner needed with this antenna, on some band I had to adjust the lenght (calibration) and then always under 1.3 of SWR. See my latest antenna video where I give my impression after 2 years of used, see the link below. 73 th-cam.com/video/tQ5HMBLf_gQ/w-d-xo.html
@@Laboenligne Mine is up now...50'+ up on the tower...Working great! Very happy with it.Thanks a million for the great assembly videos. You address issues the manual does not..THANKS!!
Actually if you follow the instructions (and now you have my video 😉 ) it’s not too complicated. I took my time and it took around 20 hours to assemble the antenna. But crunching the video into 22 minutes took at least 50 hours, hihi. 73 Pascal VA2PV
Interesting and I think a good antenna, but Why is SteppIR not working with plug and play like Ultrabeam. All cables were ready to go with mine. No open motorunits, ot putting cables together. I must say the controler looks pretty cool. !
@@Laboenligne Thanks for the answer, well I could order a cable , standard length is 30 meters so I bought 10 meters more. it came completely assembelt waterproof 40 meters length. super service from Wimo in Germany the new owner of Ultrabeam.
Hi, really good video. Seriously thinking about getting one of these antennas. Quick question regarding your tower - just interested if you had any objections from neighbours to it? I'd love a tower like that but here in the UK we require planning permission which I think the neighbours would object to.
Hi Rob, The tower was there before both my next door neighbour, so they both a house beside my tower, hihi. The previous owners on each side were very cool and explained everything to them, it went very well. I'm lucky ;-) 73 Pascal VA2PV
Pascal, I hope all works well with the antenna. I hear too many issues with the EHU motors failing. Also problems with the copper tape. I will look forward to your next Installment. Mark kb3z
Hi Mark, I’ve been following this manufacturer for several years and I had my doubts about having mechanical hardware up the tower. I know they improved the EHU motors over time. So, now I’m very confident about this product as a few of my friends have a SteppIR antennas and it survives the Canadian winters. Also, that’s a risk that I’m willing to take since it offers me an 8 band antenna with a monobander on each band, SWR flat! I took good care when doing the assembly and I’m confident about it. Will see over time, but for now, wow what an antenna. 73 Pascal VA2PV
The element materials do not last in strong sunshine such as in Florida,Arizona and other states. The metal tape will break through the elements and it’s a costly repair. Not a Money wise choice and when lightning strikes are a very real issue and just nearby is close enough to kill the motors or control box.
I have a steppir 2 el, I would like to change it with this, but because they do not mount a square boom, and because they make me cut the tubes in fiber ! , this is really a big stupid, I can not believe it, what a displeasure
Warning...do NOT EVER use any kind of contact cleaner spray near those green phoenix connectors!!! For any reason... they will just dissolve into a pile of mush!

fantastic video my friend 73 from kb2uew
Your videos are excellent. In a suburban area, did you much trouble with the neighbors / authorities and a large tower on a small residential lot?
Great video what is the size of the conical dril bit what it made from thank you
