i know it appears early in crystal, but i always wanted a modern game where phanpy is available early. In crystal Phanpy and donphan had terrible movepools. i now used a donphan in scarlet and violet for the first time, since it never felt obtainable and viable before.
I Phanpy and Donphan so much, so I would fully support them being early! I honestly kind of used a Phanpy as an honorary team member in Paldea when I caught one super overleved before the first gym (wouldn't even listen to me!) and kept it high thru the whole game.
Yeah, as much as i love to say GS were my faves for bein two games in one... Half the best mons arent even available til well past mid game of that dbl game length game! Not sure if HGSS did it better or not tho
@ansemthetrueseekerofdarkne2730 I thought Gligar and Aipom were from Gen 4 for the longest time due to their evolutions in the case of Aipom I thought it was shown in Gen 3 anime as a promo for Gen 4 since a lot of Gen 4 pokemon was that
Now that I think about it, the protagonist’s house in Paldea is right next to the ocean, and there is a creek on the first route that leads to a small beach that has Wingull. Definitely could’ve had some Wattrel hanging around there too!
Right? I don't get it; there's water everywhere. If they were fish I'd understand but they're BIRDS, they can fly onto the shore at least a little bit!
The cover also brings a quote on quote "point" for one pastor's argument of Pokémon being evil, and also pointing towards Mewtwo doing the "devil salute".
@@IsaiahTorres-rq9rw Oh right, the whole "Pokémon is satanic" controversy. I would love to watch all adults eat their words when the POPE said Pokémon is a good game about the virtues of teamwork and love to and from others. But I'm a 2002 kid, so unfortunately came to this world too late for that.
I really liked it when they made Riolu an early route encounter in Pokémon Black 2 and White 2 and honestly they really should have kept up that tradition at least in other games (ig you could count Scarlet and Violet, but I'm not too sure on that)
My starter is my only permanent team member. Otherwise, I just keep switching the others around based on factors like which have the lowest levels (only an early game consideration or if it just hatched at L1 or L5), which ones I haven't used yet, which ones have the advantage in an upcoming gym challenge, which ones are close to evolving, which ones have an HM I need to use (before Gen 7), etc. Once I'm ready to take Victory Road to the Pokémon League, I decide which of my Pokémon are my strongest options and finish training them on Victory Road for my Pokémon League Challenge. (While I'm willing to use Legendary Pokémon I've caught in-game on my championship team, I do exclude myself from using any Legendary or Mythical Pokémon I've received in distributions, transfers, or trades.)
What are you talking about? In B2W2 Sewaddle is found on the second route of the game and Venepede is found immediately after getting your first badge.
He talks about BW1. And it is true. There are like 3 (!) different pokémon to catch before the first gym... + one of these ugly monkeys. But that's it. This was what annoyed me about BW the most... I always just had 1 pokémon until i got my first badge because none of these 3 early route pokémon were good for me.
In base Sun and Moon, you can get an in game trade Bounsweet for a Lillipup on Route 5 right before Lana’s trial. It even has an adamant nature, making it a great option for Totem Wishiwashi.
It always bothers me when the evolution is available in a region but the base form isn’t. I think Sun/Moon was the first game to throw a bunch of babies onto the first routes besides Kalos and Unova (BW2) having a couple. Also you do have an in game trade for a Bounsweet before the water trial in Sun/Moon
I kind of get why Baby Pokemon weren't wild before, but it did bother me like in the Ultra Wormholes that you'd catch a Nuzleaf and then have to breed to fill out the Dex...
I think it is better to wait for the Old Rod instead of wasting experience points on a Level 4 Poliwag before Falkner. Making too many Pokémon available before the first gym is just as bad as making very few Pokémon available before the first gym.
@@awesomeocelot7475 The Old Rod is available before you even walk inside Union Cave for the first time. I am playing Pokémon Crystal and I walked back to Violet City to catch a Poliwag. Only waiting three levels to learn Water Gun is much better than waiting nine levels to learn it.
6:24 What? Which version of Black 2 and White 2 have you been playing to claim that Sewaddle doesn't appear early? It is on Route 20. Literally the second Route you ever set foot on in this game. How is this not early game? Venipede is also available on the same Route, but only in the cliff-down path gatekept by acquiring the first badge. That doesn't change the mishap of B/W but it still a weird claim that Sewaddle isn't a Unova 2 Early Game Pokémon as it is blatantly wrong.
Hmm, there are common early Normal and Grass types in most regions, so Deerling would fit both of those at the same time! That is a high evolution level though...
Yeah, Deerling would be a good fit. I don't think Paldea really counts though, same as Galar with its wild area, where you can find Pokemon earlier than in their home regions (For example you need to wait for Mudbray until second island in Alola, while its pretty much a given in Galar).
My guess as to why Poliwag isn't available early is cuz there's a trade for Jynx in Cerulean asking for Poliwhirl. & as a standalone Psychic-type, Jynx would be pretty strong early on & easiest to obtain compared to other Psychics (Mr. Mime trade is on an optional area). I know it as I used it in my Gen1 playthrough. Speaking of in-game trades, Chatot can be picked up in Eterna, way before it's accessible in the wild.
Interesting point. Though maybe that could've been fixed by swapping the jynx trade with the lickitung trade. It does seem a bit odd that one of the weakest trade-exclusives is the hardest one to obtain (lickitung's the only one you have to both catch and evolve a pokémon to trade for).
If we end up getting a "simple" remake for Johto, moving the post game ones into the main game and making future evolutions possible during standard play+adjusting trainer teams with them is all the region needs. Even if Larvitar is only found on Victory Road and Mount Silver that's perfectly fine jst let Slugma also be found at Mt Mortar since in Kitakami there is no active lava but we still see them around.
If Houndour was available early in GSC, all Pokémon in the first half of the game (before Blackthorn City/Team Rocket takes over the Radio Tower in Goldenrod City) would take neutral or super effective damage from at least one of his STAB moves except for Chuck's Poliwrath. I think that is why Houndour is not available until Kanto Route 7 at night time.
I wanted to find a Wattrel so much earlier then I did for my scarlet playthrough (I already beat Violet) but my issue is they try Pokédex map is not helpful AT ALL so I had no idea until just right now that it could be found behind Nemona’s house…
In the original Johto games poliwag can be found, at night, on route 30, between Cherrygrove city and Violet city, at level 3 and 4. I found my first poliwag at level 3 in the first grass area on the route.
Apparently I have a way different definition of what an early route is. I typically think of early routes as ones you can reach up to the 3rd gym and then 3rd gym to 6th gym are mid-game, and of course everything after is late game. I think a couple of these are fine where they are at, I would have rather seen Teddiursa/Phanpy (not the Crystal appearances) for gen 2 since they are locked away until after the 8th badge.
I mean it's not TOO different I guess, but to me the third gyms are often too close to the 4-6 gyms as far as pacing goes (like in Kalos, Alola or even Unova) and more importantly I find it easy enough to build out a full Usable team by Gym Two most often, even if that's not the team you'll keep until the end so that's why I cut it there.
Route 45 is unlocked before the eighth gym. Unpopular Opinion: I think Route 45 was the right place for Teddiursa and Phanpy but they should have been Level 23, not Level 20. In Johto, the eighth gym has levels similar to the sixth gym of other regions. I also think Phanpy evolves too early. Both Teddiursa and Phanpy should have evolved at Level 30.
I've loved the Spheal line ever since I first saw it. And ever since then I've wished it could be found much much earlier. Even if it were after the third badge in Hoenn, I'd still declare that early enough since I never really cement my end-game team until around the fifth badge in those games anyway(I almost always use a Camerupt unless I chose Torchic....)
I totally agree with you, I'd add to the list: • Pikachu should have been a 1% Kanto Route 1 mon ; • Houndour should have been in the same Johto locations as Growlithe, but at night ; • Marill should have been in R 34, the earliest sea-side route, just like in Hoenn ; • Swablu should have been in R 116 ; • Spheal should have been in R 104 ; • Sinnoh is so good at it that you can face the 1st gym with your gameplay party ; • I really don't know why can't Sewaddle & Venipede be found just outside Pinwheel Forest, where you can find pkmn that are Super Effective against Lenora's team ; • Kalos doesn't even have a proper Route 1.
Marill is SO odd for not having been found before the FIFTH gym in Johto! Also great point about Kalos; Route 1 is a glorified hallway!! (But with great music...)
@@emperorcubone You can technically encounter it before the 4th gym as a swarm if I recall right but by that point most players will already have a water pokemon or have access to a better water one. All six Gen 2 swarm pokemon would have fared better not being 1% and instead being options available by the 2nd or 3rd gyms (sure some of them are but Yamna and Dunsparce have terrible movesets in Gen 2 and aren't really worth using).
Do you really think giving players access to a dragon type before even facing a gym would be a good idea for a Hoenn playthrough? You've got a point about marill, though, it definitely doesn't seem suitable to make players wait until they go spelunking to run into one.
@@jaschabull2365 Swablu is a 310 BST Normal/Flying type who evolves at lv. 35 (around the same Lv the starters get to their last stage & 5 lvs later than Kirlia) into a 490 BST Dragon, which is weaker than all 3 starters & Gardevoir. It's totally feasible. If you are playing ORAS -or Sigma Emerald-, you'll get your 1st Fairy either at Route 102 (Ralts) or 104 (Marill), so a dragon won't interfere that greatly.
That's not at all what I was saying; it's not even on the route, that's the problem. If it were consistently found in the area and not just what amounts to a random easter egg it would be fine.
@@emperorcuboneto be fair, Taillow has such a low encounter rate on one specific route (that you can skip all of the grass in if you want to), that most playthroughs, I never actually encounter a wild Taillow. I honestly don't even consider Taillow to be the real regional bird of Hoenn because it is so rare while Wingull is unavoidable (and is literally the most common wild pokemon in Gen 3). Wattrel seems to be treated much better than Taillow. Yes you have to go a bit out of your way, but it isn't any worse than the early game Spearow in Gen 1 on the optional route towards victory road. Meanwhile, Taillow is almost as rare as Ralts meaning that unless you specifically spend some time hunting for Taillow, you won't find a Taillow.
That was really odd, especially because it was one of the Pokemon they promoted most heavily before the games came out! I guess maybe they wanted make Marnie more unique...?
1:47 "unlike its exclusively sea-bound counterparts..." Seel isn't sea-bound. It's found on the land in the Seafoam Islands, and, you know, real seals come onto land all the time.
Putting Bagon all the way behind 8 gym badges in the back area of Meteor Falls in RSE is criminal. (or any encounter locked behind a HM/ride Pokémon in a place you could already visit) They couldn't just make it a 1% encounter rate in any area of Meteor falls, not needing Surf/Waterfall to obtain one? As for Ice types, they need a suitable location to live in. I just wish they placed the Ice/Snow location earlier.
Also I like to be excited about upcoming team members, not just cramming most in the early stages of the game, just don't make it too late where I have to trade an egg over (here's looking at you HGSS Sneasel. I had to trade an egg from Platinum to use one on my HGSS team.)
The thing about ice is that climbing to the peak of a mountain is no job for a rookie, so the ice types doomed to be stuck in the late game for that reason.
In that case the problem is the Team Plasma wall at the entrance of the woods portion of Pinwheel Forest before the Dragon Skull is taken by the organization. If only they blocked just the access to the bridge we'd be able to reach the grass before the challenge at Nacrene's Gym.
It's possible to find Teddiursa and Phanpy as rare encounters before the first gym in Crystal but yeah otherwise they're only found once the player has gotten to Blackthorn.
Holding back Teddiursa with respect to Snubbull kind of makes sense since in Gen 2, with no abilities and both being Normal type, Teddiursa family almost completely outclasses Snubbull family.
I think it would be cool if its evolve levels were adjusted to be a bit lower like say, 20 and 40 because then it would have an extremely similar growth rate to your starter pokemon. It’s also around the same strength as one for all stages as well in terms of BST.
I feel like Hisuian Zorua is a notable one, it was one of the first Hisuian pokemon revealed with a totally unique type combination, meaning everyone, including myself, wanted to use it only for it to only be available in the final section of the game, in one hidden underground cave unless you got insanely lucky on an outbreak. I ended up replanning my entire team when I realized just how long I would have had to wait to add it otherwise.
I want to say Houndour in Johto cause their was a perfect spot for it in my opinion as one of Primo’s gift Pokémon in Violet City instead of the much slower and frail Slugma plus Houndour would have fit well alongside Mareep and Wooper also by the time you’d of gotten to Houndour legitimately you’d already have Arcanine, Typhlosion, Magmar/Magmortar, Rapidash or even Flareon instead
Johto is terrible with its placement with so many Gen 2 pokemon being gated behind Kanto, swarms/extremely rare %, or breeding. Crystal and the remakes fixed it some but you're still really limited on making teams before the Elite 4 that are Johto only. Slugma would be a little better if it evolved around level 20 like Wooper (especially since they and their evolved forms share BSTs) though it still suffers due to the overabundance of water pokemon.
Good choices. I also wonder if in earlier 2d games they could gave swapped out early route choices based on starter choice. If you pick bulbasaur then more water types and fire types appear sooner.
I would love that idea! Who would they do? Would it be to give you super effective or resisted options? Probably Oddish/Bellsprout, Vulpix/Growlithe, and then maybe Poliwag...
It's a really nice idea, though it would also require pokemon to have better movesets since most of them didn't learn good moves until high levels without also using TMs or HMs.
I don't think this is a bad idea in terms of balance, but it would actually make your starter choice have less meaning rather than more if the starter is the only way to obtain those typings for a long time. Black/White 1 also kind of does this with the gift monkey in a way that makes somewhat more sense than arbitrarily changing wild Pokemon spawns.
I don't know man, I still ended up using Venipede in my playthrough of White version. He was too cool a bug for me to pass up, plus scolipede has steamroller. Though, I'm one of those people that will decide to switch my team out over the course of the game, granted I don't do what I did in Paldea. In Paldea I did all the other paths before starting the gyms, completed the pokédex (save for paradox mon & the 'raidons), and had a level 87 Pyroar as my team ace, all before becoming a champion. Not even by choice really, but I got too attached to switch her out, and she was the strongest mon I had throughout the entire game. I was only supposed to keep her long enough to evolve her...
Glameow in Pearl is a perfect example. Stunky, you find on Route 206 and just after you fought Jupiter who had it's evolution, Skuntank. Glameow should be on Route 206 as well
I love your videos! Clobberpus (or however it’s spelled) would have been my Galar choice. It would have been a good Makuhita clone but never used one other than Dex filling. Man, I didn’t realize Poliwag was so far out, you’re spot on
Agreed on Poliwag, but I would extend that to any Water type in the game, plus Ponyta. There are tons of Pokémon like Horsea, Poliwag (as you mentioned), Seel, Shellder, Slowpoke, Goldeen, and I believe Psyduck that you encounter again and again in Trainer matches but never become available until it is so late in the game that they're useless beyond Surfing. Ponyta may as well be self explanatory.
I mean yes; ideally the Good Rod would be on the SS Anne or something so you could get them a lot earlier, and it wouldn't even be that OP because the next gym is a Grass one.
@@emperorcubone It's so weird that one ultimately gets the Good Rod and Super Rod in the same part of the game. Maybe they should have given the Old Rod before Mt. Moon. Then they could have given you the Good Rod in Vermillion, as you said.
Glameow/Purugly in Pearl and Platinum weren’t available until the route West of Sunyshore City (8th badge), at which point you’re really not going to add a middling normal type to your team. Always annoyed me
I love Platinum, but you couldn’t get the Murkrow, Misdrevaus, Stunky, or Glameow family. I don’t like 3rd games doing this. Crystal is notorious for no Mareep, Emerald, no Zangoose, Lunatone, or Meditite.
@@nintendo8127 Just checked and you’re right actually, yeah. I had Diamond as a kid, so I’ve never used a Purugly or a Mismagius to this day, after dozens of Sinnoh playthroughs
This is a refreshing video topic. I absolutely agree with Poliwag. Definitely should be achievable earlier on. Also agreeing with the Unova bugs, I also have another issue with the gen 5 games. The evolution levels. For the distribution of Pokémon throughout the map, a lot of relatively simple Pokémon evolve at levels much too high to justify the low stats of the base stage. Biggest offenders are Braviary Mandibuzz and Bisharp all evolving after level frigging FIFTY, GOOD LORD. Not cool.
Haha yeah let's just have an early route Larvesta and make people throw it aside because they think it'll never evolve after it reaches 38 and counting!
I like this idea a lot. Grabbing the 1st stage of a pseudo legendary early would feel like a nice opportunity to invest in something great down the line that doesn't feel like it is hampering your team comp. 👍
What drove me crazy about Sinnoh is in Diamond and Pearl some of the coolest new Pokemon were hidden behind the national dex: Froslass, the new Eeveelutions, etc.
I've thought about this topic a fair few times myself, with two immediate suggestions popping to mind; Slugma and Snom. Slugma is a perfect early game Fire type thanks to low stats and a varied but low power move-set whilst Snom's friendship evolution means that any late-game catching of it results in you never using the Snom form itself. 0:16 - Agreed, I've replayed the starting couple gyms of Gens 1, 2 and 3 so many times. 1:32 - Which always seemed particularly odd as Poliwag has feet. It's perfectly acceptable to see it on land. Oh neat, you bring up that very point at 1:44. 2:28 - I'd say no to Snubbul purely because of the sheer amount of Normal types already found early on in Johto. I still say Slugma is the best choice for a Gen 2 Pokémon that should have been available earlier. 4:34 - I feel Chatot gets a pass because you can trade for one before the 2nd Gym, just when you need a Flying type. I feel this sort of treatment would have benefited Rilou. Have it be the Pokémon you get for trading an Abra in Oreburgh City instead of a Machop. 5:11 - My choice would be Snover. Sinnoh is the coldest region to date (Galar is worth considering for that given it's UK basis) and yet it's Ice types are found super late. 5:44 - That is the case indeed, thus to keep to that theme, I would suggest making Munna, Audio and Timbur availble earlier. Munna and Audio, despite being in the very area, and only accessible after you beat the first gym. Timbur would also fit the construction like Dreamyard well, an whilst it wouldn't make a huge difference in timing, would still give one more option before the first gym that isn't super effective against Water/Grass/Fire. 8:29 - I still stand by Snom as the Pokémon that should be made available earlier, but an earlier access to Galar's one Ground type of it's own (that isn't a regional variation) would be cool.
6:18 they do, you can catch Sewaddle in the second route with the only other option being Pidove and the ranch that you visit, Venipede its a bit less common but you can get it just after the first badge in the darker grass
Technically, you can get the Super Rod (which can catch Poliwag in a few places like Viridian City) before getting the Good Rod in Fuchsia City in Gen 1 if you first explore the areas east of Lavendar Town instead of just taking the Bike Bridge to Fuchsia. (You'll also need to make sure you grab the Fly HM just before the Bike Bridge.)
Spheal is so true, i always ignored the mudkip because i knew it wanted that sweet sweet Walrein. Was always a beef lord for me. Although Kyogre always began to hog the water slot for me lol
They’d have to give it more level up moves since it only knows take down but I’d love an early beldum sometime Some people may say steel is to Powerful for early game but if we can catch an Aron before we fight Brawly then surely a beldum would work as well, they can even make it a super rare encounter
I guess the idea is, aron at least won't exactly make the Dewford gym battle a breeze with its compound weakness against fighting, but giving players a psychic type that early would? Then again, ralts can be captured earlier, but I guess a strong type like steel needs the major drawbacks of 2 compound weaknesses to even be considered as early as aron shows up.
Turns out you can get Bounsweet earlier in SM, albeit from an in-game trade on Route 5. At least this one you can get right before the water trial, and it has an adamant nature
You can, but myself and probably many others didn't even consider traveling up to Victory Road until we had all the badges, at which point you get to see that there are a bunch of low-leveled baby Pokemon just chilling there.
This video is the reason why I have never understood why they haven’t offered a second save file (even if it was unlocked post elite four) that ,et you begin the region in a different town with a mixed up roster. I know it’s a bit complicated, especially for their very locked ideas on what a Pokémon game should be but heck they could have done this sort of mix up between versions to actually give you another reason to buy the second game. I would love for them to re-release an old game where you just had the option to pick a starting town and then just scale things individually so you could meet Pokémon in a different order, pretty much all the ones you’ve listed I haven’t used for this reason and I feel bad for them. There are too many good ideas they just don’t want to do and it honestly frustrates me!
I would Love for at least one game to let us pick our own starting point! That would so unique! (As for multiple save files you CAN just create a new Switch profile these days, but I get what you mean...)
I feel like this video fails to take into account the fact that Pokemon is about finding each of the monsters to fill the Pokedex. Play hiding under these Pokemon even if they're not good, it rewards exploration
I feel like Snubbul definitely should've been put more around the area of Goldenrod, like, it's an incredibly Whitney-coded Pokemon, she really should've had one on her team, and with that it would've made sense for them to be around there. As for Aipom though, I feel it's somewhat fine being locked behind Headbut. I mean, back when, it couldn't evolve, so it had above average stats, too good to be found on early routes at least probably, but not enough to really make it as a permanent team member, so I also think it makes more sense as a more gimmicky mon that can only be found in trees, and as a sort of consolation prize for not getting Heracross. I thought Barboach was fine in RSE, but I misremembered and thought you could get the Good Rod around the 3rd gym, not only after getting Surf. At that point, you should already be at level 30, the level Barboach evolves, so if you want to use one you'll basically immediately have a Wiscash if you train it to be on par asap. Spheal... I more so get, primarily due to it being an ice-type, but not due to them putting ice-types late for no reason, but because Hoenn is a tropical region with not much room to logically put a water/ice-type like Spheal. Maybe they could have it be accessible on one of the Surf-routes after the 5th gym? Would also make those optional routes worthwhile since you're getting a counter for the 6th gym out of it. I kinda get the argument with Chatot, but imo it's also salvaged a bit by being available as an in-game trade for a Buizel around the 2nd gym. Burmy... is a point I also kinda get, but honestly, the point you get it at is fine, you get access to honey trees pretty shortly after the 1st gym, and it being tied to honey trees seems fine as well. The main problem is really just... how honey trees function in itself... For Sewaddle and Venipede, I feel them being better than your usualy regional bug actually justifies them being later in BW pretty well, since them being better means there's still reason to put them in your party even as late as after the 2nd gym. Especially Venipede. Otherwise though, as many have pointed out, they ARE earlier in BW2. Dedenne being that late and hard to find actually isn't a-typical for Pika-clones. I mean, in Gen 1, Pikachu can be found in Viridian Forest but only with a low chance, in Gen 2 it is locked to postgame, with the only way to get one early being in Crystal to lucky with the Suprise Egg you get in Goldenrod. In Gen 5, Emolga is usually only found in shaking grass, and only from Route 5 onwards, that's around the 4th gym, Togedemaru can only be found in the Blush Mountain area, a completely missable area on the way to the 6th trial, and also with a lower chance, and Morpeko can also only be found on the way to the 6th gym in Galar. So... Dedenne on Route 11, on the way to the 3rd gym, actually isn't that bad. Bounsweet I agree should've been obtainable earlier, but also, at least in SM, you can get one as early as before the 2nd trial through trade. You have other grass-type options by then, including Fomantis just on that route, but still early enough for it to come into consideration as a party member. Not sure why Silicobra should be any earlier? It's about as early as Hippopotas in Sinnoh, on the way to the 4th gym, and even though by Galar-standards that's a little later into the game, I still feel that's a fair spot to put it. While I think getting Wattrel earlier on more easily would be neat, I feel basing that on it being Paldeas "regional bird" is a bit shallow when it seems pretty clear that Game Freak tried to break conventions with it in the first place. Like, overall, it can still be found reasonably early, I feel, it's just not one of the first Pokemon you can catch, and not one you can really catch throughout the entire tutorial-segment. As for Tandemaus, I feel its habitat is fine, it makes sense for it to be close to cities, and it's not like it's super rare, going to the 2nd gym the "intended" route, you're almost guaranteed to spot one in the grass just before entering the city.
Yeah, poliwag definitely does seem as if the first opportunity comes way later than it should in Kanto. Probably doesn't help that it's listed so early in the dex - before the likes of bellsprout, geodude or abra, leading one to expect it can be caught before, or at least at a similar time to those early-mid-game 'mons. Psyduck has it even worse, being listed before mankey, despite it taking even later than poliwag to be a capturing option (it takes a super rod to catch one, unless you go all the way to Seafoam Islands). I don't think ice type is saved for later in the game for a gameplay standard so much as it is about the environments an ice type is likely to fit in being ones that are more suitable for the late game - if you don't want the whole region to be circumpolar, ice types are probably better reserved for the extreme latitudes of the map, or the peak of a mountain, which doesn't really feel like a terrain suitable for novice trainers. Likely spheal was sequestered to Shoal Cave because the rest of Hoenn seemed a bit too warm for a blubbery seal to seem at home. Perhaps it might have been an idea to take a page from jynx's book and have spheal be a trade option earlier on, so it'd have a chance to shine. I suspect bounsweet had a similar problem, mangosteens are from trees, so it makes more sense for them to live in the jungle, but it would be a bit weird to make a rookie trainer go through a jungle trek right away. As for dedenne, I get the impression that it was assumed people who did want it would want it because it's cute, so the developers might as well make them wait for it, not like the resident electric rodent sporting a breakout type will be passed over because it won't help you earn a badge. A lot of the other ones mentioned also may very well have been added for the challenge of capture rather than to be that useful in battle, most likely the idea is that after a player's blown through the gym battles and league, they'll still have to backtrack and put in the work to catch some elusive 'mons if they want to complete the pokédex. And seeing as they've probably beaten the game already, making these pokémon particularly strong isn't much of a priority, as there wouldn't be that many battles to face at that point. Making the hunt as much of a chore as it can be, especially in Sinnoh's case, might have been an overshoot.
Sort of unrelated, but I’ve been playing the Pokémon gimmick in the latest yakuza like a dragon game, and every weak / low level “Sujimon” that you find looks slightly different, including the strong ones. Kind of wish Pokémon added some sort of algorithm that creates a slightly off looking feature, kind like spinda and it’s randomly generated spots. It would make exploring routes so much fun.
@@emperorcubone lol I figured you didn’t know about it. The combat for the main game is turned based as well, with a really great story. I think you’ll love it, actually. It might end up being something you’d cover. Speaking of that, I didn’t even know you had a second channel. I just checked it out and saw you had videos from 4 years ago, wow! It wouldn’t hurt to promote it more, dude haha
I say teddiursa should of been Early in Gold and Heartgold because when I was younger I wanted to use one by time I found it I was at the dragon gym why is it that far should it be early
Theres always room in my pokemon team, to the point sometimes I finish a game with only four team members. I had a wormadam in Diamond & Tsereenee in Moon
Kanto: Grimer and Koffing in my opinion, it's found waay too late in the game where you basically have tons of poison Pokemon including one of the most iconic duo of poison types being the Nidos and another choice is the Fossil pokemon, Kabuto, Omastar and Aerodactyl are only obtainable after the 6 gym and that's waaay too late and the route you need to cross already needs surf and worse, you get them at level 5, which you have to make them to your level, i would honestly move them up to 4th or 5th gym and getting them revived on Sylph Corp Johto: I honestly could say: "any pokemon of Johto dex" however the pokemon i find the most weirder to not get into the dex is two: Houndour and Teddiursa, Houndour is potentially the only Johto fire type you can encounter before the Elite 4 and it's no exaggeration, and it's literally the pokemon who can debut the new type added so I can't grasp why he doesn't show up after 3° or 4° gym and Teddiursa as well boggles me because it's a Pokemon who you already could find in crystal before the league, why? Why fix what wasn't broken Hoenn: Hoenn has few pokemon locked into later routes so my pick is Clamperl, this pokemon is only available after dive is unlocked which is after the 7° gym and that's horrible because you would already have a water Pokemon from literally every corner of Hoenn however it's not only late it's also a trade evolution Sinnoh: Hippopotas, it's a Pokemon who you need to basically do a side quest to obtain, you can only find him in a cave with low percentage of encounter however it increases by every different alphabet unown you catch and even catching all forms it doesn't give you anything beyond 20% which is a shame since outside the cave there's a literal route where you can catch Rhyhorn and it's implying you catch all 26 forms, good luck with that Unova: Unova in my opinion has the worst problem of late availability, however i have to give the trophy to Durant and Heatmor, the other late available pokemon are either after the 7° badge or outside the league, it's baffling that these 2 are inside the league and worse of all, you could fit them in most routes and it would make sense, I would move up Durant to Driftveil and Heatmor could be on the same route
You know, that's a good point about Grimer and Koffing; I never really thought about them before because there ARE so many Poison types, but that's exactly why they should be found earlier, so you would actually have a reason to use one!
if i were to design old gen maps, i would have made branched routes that lead nowhere and have overlevelled better pokemons, so you could try to catch them but youd most likely get OHKOed or barely survive, youd have to come back later foelr a chance
I agree with many of these. By the time you can get Spheal in ORAS, the level curve basically expects you to have Sealeo, and even Walrein. Bounsweet suffers from the same reason (without the in-game trade, by the time you can get it in SM your team is going to be in the mid 20s, and it is fully evolved at Level 29 in Gen 7), and it should've been in the berry piles on Melemele Island. I honestly feel that many of the Hisuian forms are too late, as I didn't get the first member of my final team (Growlithe) until Cobalt Coastlands, and the last two members (Zoroark and Braviary) weren't until the ice area. In Scarlet, I was able to get a Wattrel pre-Katy, though I had to go out of my way to find it and I didn't put it on my team until after badge 1 because it was Level 17.
Burmi i 100% agree with its so forgettable to ve the regional bug as someone that stopped in gen 2 and returned late gen 4/5 i assumed they was 4th gen And bias to poliwag and spheal being found sooner being a mono water trainer now days
The only region where I would makes changes that impact the early game is Kanto. Most Water Type Pokémon are not available until the second half of the game. An easy fix: Move the Old Rod to Cerulean City. Move the Good Rod to Vermillion City. Move the Poliwhirl for Jynx in game trade to Fuchsia City. Now players that did not choose Squirtle can have more options for Water Type Pokémon earlier in the game. For other regions, I would make changes that impact the middle of the game.
@@emperorcubone I am not sure what I would change in the Johto early game. When I compare Gold/Silver and Crystal, I agree with different decisions made in both versions of Gen 2. I think Gen 2 actually had a bigger problem with movepools than Pokémon availability.
You can get an Aipom before Azalea Gym, you just need to level up a Slowpoke caught in the well until it learns Headbutt (level 34 in GSC yeah, but in HGSS it's "just" at level 25).
@@emperorcubone I love Slowpoke, so I did that in HeartGold. You can get Heracross, Exeggcute, Pineco (a level 6 Noctowl lol) before Bugsy, I think it's cool. It's just a bit slow to train Slowpoke against Unown, but it's in-character with Slowpoke, isn't it? Moreover Aipom means Pickup, so a new pool of items to have access too which is crucial in Professor Oak's challenge. Never try that one though, in comparison bringing Slowpoke to level 25 is a walk in the park.
inb4 watchin to give my own opinion here: Snom rly shudve been as early to find as Sizzlipede. The fire and ice bugs just go so well together and the game is way more enjoyable if you get them early on And i say this given that when i played Shield, thats exactly what i did. I had a friend trade me a Snom egg and a Sizzlipede egg; and i swapped out my starter for a Fire Bug and Ice Bug combo. And it was sm fun, esp as i also stayed only in Bug types and still was able to have a devastatin team thruout. I love type challenges for pokemon, they make it way more fun to me But if id wanted to do that per the games rules, idve only been able to get Sizzlipede somewhat early and wudve had to wait til practically end game to get Snom... Like wtaf? Bug pokemon deserve early route rep, esp the coolest of bug pokemon. Snom deserves to be on Route 3! Heck, if Snom and Sizzlipede had both been on route 3, they cudve even done a thing where they were version exclusives; which wudve made them even cooler im honest o Snom is such a cute bug and deserves to be shown more love :3
Let me tell you something I love aipom, he’s my favorite, but in almost every game I’ve played they either wait until very late game where you can get one like the sun and moon games and oras , or you just don’t get them at all and I hate it
Most of this just sounds like plain impatience. I mean, you don't even need a full team of six during the early game, let alone an ideal team to carry you through the entire rest of the game. I think it's good to have some catches to look forward to even on later routes. This is I think especially true with alternative grass, fire, and water types, since delaying them helps make the starter a more defining aspect of the team. That said, in gen1, I could admit Poliwag comes a bit too late, or really any water type that isn't Squirt or Gyarados. Oddish/Bellsprout can be found north of Cerulean and Growlithe/Vulpix can be found east of Lavender. Really the problem is that the Good Rod being in Fushia just comes far too late. I mean, heck, depending on the route taken to get to Fushia, it's entirely possible to acquire the Super Rob first. Spheal in gen3 is a bit problematic as well. While it doesn't need to be an early route catches, it probably should have been mid game. The only three stage line exclusive to late game should be pseudo legendries.
Maybe some could be impatience, but the main point is that many of these Pokemon are found beyond the point of their prime usefulness, and it would help people appreciate them more fully if you didn't have to play catchup every time you caught one too late, like Spheal!
While true usually by the 5th or 6th gym most players have a full team put together or have just a single slot left. Obviously it depends on the game as some gens are better than others with their level curves but in general it usually requires quite a bit of grinding in the mid to late game to bring new team members up to the rest of the party's levels.
@@jcohasset23: Oh, I can agree with that. The 5th and 6th gyms are late enough into the game that it's entirely reasonable for a player to have their full team of 6 set, or maybe a team of 5 with one late game holdout left to go. This video however seemed to be complaining about the inability to have a full team before the 2nd gym, and that's just much too early to be a problem. Heck, I'd even consider suggesting the opposite, and that maybe the games should limit team size at the start to just 3 Pokémon, with one additional slot added per badge and thus not reaching the 6-slot max until acquiring the 3rd badge. That would even fit with lore in more recent games that has tried to explain why most NPCs have such small teams by saying only exceptional trainers can control multiple Pokémon at once.
@@EmeralBookwise Adjusting the size of the team based on number of badges is an interesting idea as it always seemed silly that few trainers have a full team until end game. Heck even some members of the Elite 4 don't have 6 pokemon until rematches. I've also seen hacks that have battles where the player chooses among their party to have a 3 vs 3 or so with certain trainers to make battles a little more interesting.
I always wondered why goldeen wasn't available much earlier, a gold fish is a popular first pet in Japan, and I guess the us? If not an early route familiarity gimmick then what's the point in a Pokemon like that.
It's a super common pet in the US, and after the likes of Scyther, Kangaskhan & even Snorlax is a goldfish really going to appeal to you? Let alone the other Water type competition...
Sneasel should have been available in the Ice Path in all Johto games. Pokémon Crystal is the only Johto game where Sneasel is available there. I understand why they made Murkrow, Houndour, and Larvitar so late in the game but Sneasel would not have been broken if he was available in the middle of the game.
Personally, I would choose Clobbopus. The simple fact of the matter is, other than getting lucky with a raid, you're more likely to see Grapploct first, which makes no sense to me. It could have at least been on the route with Silicobra if they didn't want it too early.
i know it appears early in crystal, but i always wanted a modern game where phanpy is available early.

Same for Chatot in Diamond, Pearl and Platinum, traded for a Buizel in Eterna City.
In Crystal you can get Poliwag at night as soon as you get pokeballs as it’s on the second route of the game. Just in the grass no need for a rod.
I think it is better to wait for the Old Rod instead of wasting experience points on a Level 4 Poliwag before Falkner. Making too many Pokémon available before the first gym is just as bad as making very few Pokémon available before the first gym.

Venipede is also available on the same Route, but only in the cliff-down path gatekept by acquiring the first badge.
That doesn't change the mishap of B/W but it still a weird claim that Sewaddle isn't a Unova 2 Early Game Pokémon as it is blatantly wrong.
I would say Deerling, but at least it did get to be super early in Paldea now.
Hmm, there are common early Normal and Grass types in most regions, so Deerling would fit both of those at the same time! That is a high evolution level though...
Yeah, Deerling would be a good fit.
I don't think Paldea really counts though, same as Galar with its wild area, where you can find Pokemon earlier than in their home regions

@@emperorcubone I subscribed to it as soon as I finished this video 👍
My guess as to why Poliwag isn't available early is cuz there's a trade for Jynx in Cerulean asking for Poliwhirl. & as a standalone Psychic-type, Jynx would be pretty strong early on & easiest to obtain compared to other Psychics (Mr. Mime trade is on an optional area). I know it as I used it in my Gen1 playthrough.
Speaking of in-game trades, Chatot can be picked up in Eterna, way before it's accessible in the wild.
That could be true, but then I would say just swap the trade location with the Good Rod and have the Jynx in Fuchsia City instead...
Interesting point. Though maybe that could've been fixed by swapping the jynx trade with the lickitung trade. It does seem a bit odd that one of the weakest trade-exclusives is the hardest one to obtain (lickitung's the only one you have to both catch and evolve a pokémon to trade for).
Before Paldea, I would have said Houndour. I mean, I still think Houndour for Gen 2, honestly!
@@aaronolson6736after BDSP I don’t doubt they would make a “faithful” remake with all of Johto’s problems still there 🥲
If Houndour was available early in GSC, all Pokémon in the first half of the game (before Blackthorn City/Team Rocket takes over the Radio Tower in Goldenrod City) would take neutral or super effective damage from at least one of his STAB moves except for Chuck's Poliwrath.
I think Walrein is great, but it was such a chore to wait for them for SO long...
I totally agree with you, I'd add to the list:
• Pikachu should have been a 1% Kanto Route 1 mon ;
• Houndour should have been in the same Johto locations as Growlithe, but at night ;
• Marill should have been in R 34, the earliest sea-side route, just like in Hoenn ;
• Swablu should have been in R 116 ;
• Spheal should have been in R 104 ;
• Sinnoh is so good at it that you can face the 1st gym with your gameplay party ;
• I really don't know why can't Sewaddle & Venipede be found just outside Pinwheel Forest, where you can find pkmn that are Super Effective against Lenora's team ;
• Kalos doesn't even have a proper Route 1.

1:47 "unlike its exclusively sea-bound counterparts..." Seel isn't sea-bound. It's found on the land in the Seafoam Islands, and, you know, real seals come onto land all the time.
Your technicalities mean very little when it's after the seventh gym, so it's not gonna matter for most of the game...
For Bounsweet, I distinctly remember an in-game trade for one that had a guaranteed Adamant Nature.
I mean it does suck but at least it’s not locked to the post game like Beldum 😬
The thing about ice is that climbing to the peak of a mountain is no job for a rookie, so the ice types doomed to be stuck in the late game for that reason.
Cannot agree more with the Venipede inclusion, Scolipede is my second favorite mon ever, and waiting until after Lenora for it SUCKS!
In that case the problem is the Team Plasma wall at the entrance of the woods portion of Pinwheel Forest before the Dragon Skull is taken by the organization. If only they blocked just the access to the bridge we'd be able to reach the grass before the challenge at Nacrene's Gym.

I'd love to have a Phanpy in the early game! It's not even THAT high of an evolution level...
@@emperorcubone Exactly. Just put Phanpy around the area's with the Miltank Farm.
It's possible to find Teddiursa and Phanpy as rare encounters before the first gym in Crystal but yeah otherwise they're only found once the player has gotten to Blackthorn.

My first thought when i read the title was Spheal
Great minds think alike!
so true
Pretty much ALL the Hisui forms really, but maybe they were scared of a Normal/Ghost type too soon?
I want to say Houndour in Johto cause their was a perfect spot for it in my opinion as one of Primo’s gift Pokémon in Violet City instead of the much slower and frail Slugma plus Houndour would have fit well alongside Mareep and Wooper also by the time you’d of gotten to Houndour legitimately you’d already have Arcanine, Typhlosion, Magmar/Magmortar, Rapidash or even Flareon instead
This is true, or you could find Houndour in the Burned Tower. I feel like that would work pretty well...
6:21 you can find venipede on the route right before driftveil city in BW2
At least Spheal has the best pinball mini game
Good choices. I also wonder if in earlier 2d games they could gave swapped out early route choices based on starter choice.
If you pick bulbasaur then more water types and fire types appear sooner.
I would love that idea! Who would they do? Would it be to give you super effective or resisted options? Probably Oddish/Bellsprout, Vulpix/Growlithe, and then maybe Poliwag...
I think that idea would be great. It would make your starter choice have even more meaning for how your playthrough will go
@@emperorcubone poliwag or krabby? Both can walk on land. The balance issue is the evolution lines.
You can get both Venipede and Sewaddle in route 20 and for Venipede you only need a single badge, what are you talking about?
Glameow in Pearl is a perfect example. Stunky, you find on Route 206 and just after you fought Jupiter who had it's evolution, Skuntank. Glameow should be on Route 206 as well
Forever baffled at like the ONE time they didn't put "Version Exclusives" on the same route in opposite games; why do they hate Glameow?
I love your videos! Clobberpus (or however it’s spelled) would have been my Galar choice. It would have been a good Makuhita clone but never used one other than Dex filling. Man, I didn’t realize Poliwag was so far out, you’re spot on
Clobbopus definitely needs to be found before the Seventh Gym!
Aren’t you able to grab a sewaddle right after the floccesy ranch mission in BW2?
Crystal is notorious for no Mareep,
Emerald, no Zangoose, Lunatone, or Meditite.
@@nintendo8127 Just checked and you’re right actually, yeah. I had Diamond as a kid, so I’ve never used a Purugly or a Mismagius to this day, after dozens of Sinnoh playthroughs
Yes I think Magentmite should have been a early enough Pokemon before the Power Plant!
I mean Voltorb was found early originally, so why not?
Cause having a steel type early on would be possibly OP
@@cristhianmontoya6648 It wasn't originally Steel during RBY, but was still shoved away until after getting Surf
Magnetite is early game in b2w2
@@BlvssfvlHey, 'member the Magnemite Stock Exchange?
@@emperorcubone And if they evolve it they'll have to rework its moveset from physical to special. Oh, and its signature move is at level 100
Here’s an idea, make the Basic Stage of Pseudo Legends Early Route mons.
I like this idea a lot. Grabbing the 1st stage of a pseudo legendary early would feel like a nice opportunity to invest in something great down the line that doesn't feel like it is hampering your team comp. 👍
The answer is the Seismitoad family obviously.
What drove me crazy about Sinnoh is in Diamond and Pearl some of the coolest new Pokemon were hidden behind the national dex: Froslass, the new Eeveelutions, etc.
Nice I video I’m going to listen while I drive
Emperor Cubone clearly admitting he's never played BW or B2W2 by saying that Sewaddle and Venipede need to be earlier route pokemon
Flamigo is in the exact opposite boat. It’s available on one of the first few routes and can oneshot pretty much all of the early game.
Yeah... that thing really should've been later...
I think Sewaddle and Venipese are on route 25 in BW2 next to Virbank City
7:32 when the tropical jungle fruit can only be found in the tropical jungle area 🤯🤯🤯
They’d have to give it more level up moves since it only knows take down but I’d love an early beldum sometime
Some people may say steel is to Powerful for early game but if we can catch an Aron before we fight Brawly then surely a beldum would work as well, they can even make it a super rare encounter
Actually these days Beldum starts with Tackle! I guess they realized only being able to hurt itself wasn't great for longevity...
I agree with Poliwag being early in games. I've always wanted that little cutie pie in my party.
To be fair, i think you can find Tandemouse on victory road. But yeah, the fact yhat Wattril wasnt an easier to find early pokemon was weird.
You can, but myself and probably many others didn't even consider traveling up to Victory Road until we had all the badges, at which point you get to see that there are a bunch of low-leveled baby Pokemon just chilling there.
If we're talking Pikaclones, Togedemaru and Morpeko are both later than Dedenne in their respective home regions.
Play hiding under these Pokemon even if they're not good, it rewards exploration
sewadle was actually pretty early in bw2
You could also find Poliwag before you even got to the first rival fight in Crystal on Route 30 at night
Yea the biggest bummer to me was Hisuian Voltorb, I couldn’t wait to start playing with that little buddy
Yeah it was sad that tandemsus and wattrel(the most likely regional rodent and bird) couldn't be found early
My number 1 would be Clobbopus. Not that I even like grapploct or because it’s good in the games, just because it’s so cute and underused
The fact that Grapploct shows up First certainly doesn't help...
Didn't even know that's a thing, but I think Spinda scared them from ever doing it again...
Well Level 30 might be a little high of an evolution cap for some, but I do agree that they should at least TRY Teddiursa early at some point!
Theres always room in my pokemon team, to the point sometimes I finish a game with only four team members.
I had a wormadam in Diamond & Tsereenee in Moon
Kanto: Grimer and Koffing in my opinion, it's found waay too late in the game where you basically have tons of poison Pokemon including one of the most iconic duo of poison types being the Nidos and another choice is the Fossil pokemon, Kabuto, Omastar and Aerodactyl are only obtainable after the 6 gym and that's waaay too late and the route you need to cross already needs surf and worse, you get them at level 5, which you have to make them to your level, i would honestly move them up to 4th or 5th gym and getting them revived on Sylph Corp
Johto: I honestly could say: "any pokemon of Johto dex" however the pokemon i find the most weirder to not get into the dex is two: Houndour and Teddiursa, Houndour is potentially the only Johto fire type you can encounter before the Elite 4 and it's no exaggeration, and it's literally the pokemon who can debut the new type added so I can't grasp why he doesn't show up after 3° or 4° gym and Teddiursa as well boggles me because it's a Pokemon who you already could find in crystal before the league, why? Why fix what wasn't broken
Hoenn: Hoenn has few pokemon locked into later routes so my pick is Clamperl, this pokemon is only available after dive is unlocked which is after the 7° gym and that's horrible because you would already have a water Pokemon from literally every corner of Hoenn however it's not only late it's also a trade evolution
Sinnoh: Hippopotas, it's a Pokemon who you need to basically do a side quest to obtain, you can only find him in a cave with low percentage of encounter however it increases by every different alphabet unown you catch and even catching all forms it doesn't give you anything beyond 20% which is a shame since outside the cave there's a literal route where you can catch Rhyhorn and it's implying you catch all 26 forms, good luck with that
Unova: Unova in my opinion has the worst problem of late availability, however i have to give the trophy to Durant and Heatmor, the other late available pokemon are either after the 7° badge or outside the league, it's baffling that these 2 are inside the league and worse of all, you could fit them in most routes and it would make sense, I would move up Durant to Driftveil and Heatmor could be on the same route
You know, that's a good point about Grimer and Koffing; I never really thought about them before because there ARE so many Poison types, but that's exactly why they should be found earlier, so you would actually have a reason to use one!
@@emperorcubone thanks, they should have been moved way early
if i were to design old gen maps, i would have made branched routes that lead nowhere and have overlevelled better pokemons, so you could try to catch them but youd most likely get OHKOed or barely survive, youd have to come back later foelr a chance
Sewaddle is on the first route in black 2. Do your research.
Yeah, Especially the way I played Legends Arceus, exploring every corner of each map before moving on, it made most of the Hisui forms feel SO late...
Gol-frickin-deen. Them's some lackluster stats for something you have to wait for the good rod for. At least Poliwrath ends up good.
I wish Spheal showed up early enough to use in a playthrough
Burmi i 100% agree with its so forgettable to ve the regional bug as someone that stopped in gen 2 and returned late gen 4/5 i assumed they was 4th gen
And bias to poliwag and spheal being found sooner being a mono water trainer now days
I feel like there's an argument for Johto to be changed as well, but I do agree that too many Pokemon were pushed to later...
@@emperorcubone I am not sure what I would change in the Johto early game. When I compare Gold/Silver and Crystal, I agree with different decisions made in both versions of Gen 2. I think Gen 2 actually had a bigger problem with movepools than Pokémon availability.
How early depends on the gym order in each region
You can get an Aipom before Azalea Gym, you just need to level up a Slowpoke caught in the well until it learns Headbutt (level 34 in GSC yeah, but in HGSS it's "just" at level 25).
I love Aipom more than most people, but even I'm not doing that...
The fire and ice bugs just go so well together and the game is way more enjoyable if you get them early on
And i say this given that when i played Shield, thats exactly what i did. I had a friend trade me a Snom egg and a Sizzlipede egg; and i swapped out my starter for a Fire Bug and Ice Bug combo. And it was sm fun, esp as i also stayed only in Bug types and still was able to have a devastatin team thruout. I love type challenges for pokemon, they make it way more fun to me
But if id wanted to do that per the games rules, idve only been able to get Sizzlipede somewhat early and wudve had to wait til practically end game to get Snom... Like wtaf?
Bug pokemon deserve early route rep, esp the coolest of bug pokemon. Snom deserves to be on Route 3!
Heck, if Snom and Sizzlipede had both been on route 3, they cudve even done a thing where they were version exclusives; which wudve made them even cooler im honest o
Snom is such a cute bug and deserves to be shown more love :3
Let me tell you something I love aipom, he’s my favorite, but in almost every game I’ve played they either wait until very late game where you can get one like the sun and moon games and oras , or you just don’t get them at all and I hate it
I loved when I traded over a hatched Aipom immediately in HGSS; it was my replacement starter!
@@emperorcubone I actually transferred a level 1 aipom from bdsp to sv and had that as my replacement starter
I've also seen hacks that have battles where the player chooses among their party to have a 3 vs 3 or so with certain trainers to make battles a little more interesting.
give us 1% encounter rates for sudo-legendary base forms on route 1 or 2
And then they can call in a Level 3 version of their final evolution!
@@emperorcuboneHala will never expect a Salamence xD
btw i think scarlet and violet fix this problem bc you can get who you want and just brred to have it a normal level
They should put like a bajillion pokemon in early routes in the new games. Just absolutely shove them full of little creatures.
Gens 8 and 9 have kind of done that, which makes them a lot more fun to replay! (Other factors might not, but still...)
Someone said houndour should be earlier in Johto for a good fire type
I always wondered why goldeen wasn't available much earlier, a gold fish is a popular first pet in Japan, and I guess the us? If not an early route familiarity gimmick then what's the point in a Pokemon like that.
It's a super common pet in the US, and after the likes of Scyther, Kangaskhan & even Snorlax is a goldfish really going to appeal to you? Let alone the other Water type competition...
I hope for gen 10 they subvert expectations, and we start seeing stronger/unusual types earlier in the game, like dragon/steel.
Early Ice types please? I'd love to see that!
As a general rule, Ice is much later in the game than it should be. At least Dragon they start throwing in early but rare.
There is No earthly reason Ice should be harder to find than DRAGON!
I think Burmy can be found pretty early in X and Y
You're right, but then there are like 17 other options so it would have been nice to try one out when there was less competition!
Sneasel always comes to my mind in gen 2, I really think you should be able to encounter it before Morty.
Or, you know... ANY Dark type would have been good instead of hiding them all!
@@emperorcubone True, but Sneasel was stuck in Mount Silver iirc, which is the very end of the game.
I disagree with chatot as you can trade for one before the 2nd gym, I always pick him up, Charap is very useful
Any johto pokemon with an evolution level 20-30. Sony of them are late or end game even with such a low Evo level
Marill in Johto should also be an earlier route Pokémon, given it’s low evolution level.
For sure! Like Poliwhirl, Marill was a sort of mascot at the time, so why hide it away?
Personally, I would choose Clobbopus. The simple fact of the matter is, other than getting lucky with a raid, you're more likely to see Grapploct first, which makes no sense to me. It could have at least been on the route with Silicobra if they didn't want it too early.
That was actually his pick the first time he made this kind of video.
Hey, somebody actually watched that one. Cool! Yes Clobbopus is especially bad because they force you to find its evolution first...
