  • Continuing coverage of CP MLW's in the Eastern Townships of Quebec. These scenes are from visits in 1991 and 1993, and there is some overlap with some of my other videos, with about half being new material to TH-cam. A span of just two years brought several changes including locos painted without the Multimark, the disappearance of cabooses and reduction of crew size to three men, the elimination of white flags due to the replacement of timetable/train order operation with track warrants, and the appearance of double stacks and subsequent reduction of the number of trailers on the intermodal trains. Once again most locations are captioned, although repeated scenes are only captioned once.

    Man. CP rail used to rip through everywhere. A far cry from MMA's 10 MPH speed restrictions almost everywhere.

      The Newport Sub had a 40mph timetable max, Adirondack a 50mph max & Sherbrooke Sub a 45mph max back then. Some curves were limited to 30-35, but they moved right along for the most part, when tonnage didn’t hold them back on the uphill grades.

    Hello Fmnut , Wow !!! I remember watching this video last year and it's one of the best I've seen with CP Alcos. The freight cars some with long gone road names and caboose/vans are nice to see too. Excellent work I love this video.

    This takes me back to my childhood growing up in Lennoxville in the 80's and 90's. The shots from Bury were filmed basically across the road from my grandparents house

      The trailers and containers were mostly to/from St John, while the box cars were paper and forest products cars interchanged at Brownville Jct in Maine with the Bangor & Aroostook.

    Seeing MLWs on the point of a stack train just feels right to me. Pity we’ll never see it again, though.

    Cabooses disappeared from most road jobs by the early-mid 90’s, having been negotiated away. They also negotiated away all but one brakeman on many jobs (including all road jobs) by the same time. The Vermont locals retained a full 4 or 5 man crew & cabooses, right up until CP sold the Newport & Lyndonville Subs to Iron Road in Sept., 1996. Timetable & Train Order method of operation was replaced by Manual Block System (MBS), for non-CTC territory. MBS was eventually itself replaced by OCS (Occupancy Control System) by the late 90’s on most CN & CP properties, particularly in Canada. The Adirondack Sub was CTC so the way TT south to Brookport, until it was removed south of Raines, after the 1998 ice storm (it lasted into the first Iron Road Timetable). Sherbrooke & Moosehead Subs had ABS to supplement the TT&TO & later, MBS operation. The Newport Sub was completely dark, with the exception of right in Newport itself, TT south of about MP 55 or so. The Lyndonville Sub had ABS end to end. The ABS was turned off on the Sherbrooke, Moosehead, Newport & Lyndonville Subs by Iron Road in 1998.

    Great videos through out the whole video. I am a student at a university in Sherbrooke and I really want to chase a CP train East. I didn’t know if you would have any tips or know any websites I could look up for help. Or if anyone reading this would have advice. Anything I’d appreciated

      Well, they really annoyed me at the time, but in retrospect they are nostalgic. E bells just don't do it for me.

    Thanks for a well done video. It was nice to see the second generation ALCOs with their chime horns and voluminous (at times) exhaust. Seeing cabooses on the ends of trains brought back memories. The startup of the 6 unit lash up at 38:00 was interesting. Was the yapping dog at 41:10 unhappy with your presence in its domain or did it not like train whistles? The comment about crossing bells was interesting. IMHO the ones the Japanese use are most annoying. Thanks again

    What an incline at Lac Megantic

    • @oneastrails
      @oneastrails 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Remember what that incline did to the town of Lac Megantic. They parked a train on it and messed up setting the brakes and it ran away unoccupied into town and derailed destroying most of the downtown. Montreal, Maine and Atlantic railways were operating these rails then. This train was 73 tank cars full of crude oil, then the train went runaway after the lone crewman applied a few handbrakes and left the lead engine running and he departed the scene for the night, causing 47 deaths. Dark day for this poor town. Scary thing was this 73 car train was staffed by one man, how we ever let it get to that point, i'll never figure out.
