Reminds me of better times. We were 'bout 8-10 years old, when we heard this and other Elvis songs in the early 70s. We took our bikes (my oldest friend, his sisters and me. He still is my friend after all trhese years!) and made little tours - for us extremly far away, but it must have been 'bout 10-15 km at all. BUT in these days that was kind of a journey/quest. I can still remember 1977. Pictures of a sick Elvis we didn't know/couldn't imagine and not much later the news about his far too early death. Makes me sad till now sometimes.
What can I say that hasn't been said about this timeless Elvis recording?? I was about 15 when I first heard this in 1970, when a radio station was playing a radio documentary about the life of Elvis and all of the hit records he made. I still love to play this song by him. Thanks for this post.
Besides topping the U.S. charts (all of them - Billboard, Cash Box, Music Vendor), it was also a Number One on all British charts of the time (NME, Record Mirror, Melody Maker, Disc, and Record Retailer).
Lyrics: Are you lonesome tonight? Do you miss me tonight? Are you sorry we drifted apart? Does your memory stray To a brighter summer day When I kissed you and called you sweetheart? Do the chairs in your parlor Seem empty and bare? Do you gaze at your doorstep And picture me there? Is your heart filled with pain? Shall I come back again? Tell me, dear Are you lonesome tonight? I wonder if you’re lonesome tonight You know, someone said that the world’s a stage And each must play a part Fate had me playing in love you as my sweetheart Act one was when we met, I loved you at first glance You read your line so cleverly and never missed a cue Then came act two, you seemed to change, you acted strange And why I’ll never know Honey, you lied when you said you loved me And I had no cause to doubt you But I’d rather go on hearing your lies Then go on living without you Now the stage is bare and I’m standing there With emptiness all around And if you won’t come back to me And then they can bring the curtain down Is your heart filled with pain? Shall I come back again? Tell me, dear Are you lonesome tonight?
Just like one of my older brothers loving metal to death and hates stuff like Elvis and everything else I love just like I hate metal and absolutely always loved old and new stuff for anything but metal. It's all matter of personal opinion and what you actually enjoy compared to what you just don't or can't bring yourself to love.

My God, that man could interpret a song.

The 230th number one hit in Australia
The only song Col. Parker ever asked Elvis to record (it was a favorite of Mrs. Parker’s). Originally meant to be an album cut.

It's so sadly to hear that Elvis was when Priscilla left him😭❤️RIP Elvis 🙏
appreciate your expertise on all the song histories!
One of my many favorites from Elvis.
He had such a clear tenor voice in those early days. Sentimental Me was another example.
Lyrics:
Are you lonesome tonight?
Do you miss me tonight?
Are you sorry we drifted apart?
Does your memory stray
To a brighter summer day
When I kissed you and called you sweetheart?
Do the chairs in your parlor
Seem empty and bare?
Do you gaze at your doorstep
And picture me there?
Is your heart filled with pain?
Shall I come back again?
Tell me, dear
Are you lonesome tonight?
I wonder if you’re lonesome tonight
You know, someone said that the world’s a stage
And each must play a part
Fate had me playing in love you as my sweetheart
Act one was when we met, I loved you at first glance
You read your line so cleverly and never missed a cue
Then came act two, you seemed to change, you acted strange
And why I’ll never know
Honey, you lied when you said you loved me
And I had no cause to doubt you
But I’d rather go on hearing your lies
Then go on living without you
Now the stage is bare and I’m standing there
With emptiness all around
And if you won’t come back to me
And then they can bring the curtain down
Is your heart filled with pain?
Shall I come back again?
Tell me, dear
Are you lonesome tonight?
Don't hate me but I am not a huge Elvis fan - but I love this particular vocal performance of his - it's really beautiful!
it's fine everyone has their own likes and dislikes. not everyone is going to love the same thing.

My favorite Elvis song 💙
Written in 1926!!!!
Exelent quality
This song later became a favorite at Elvis' concerts when he would purposely mangle the recitation.
Now the stage is bare.. and I'm standing there... without any hair...lol!

This literally sounds like an Ink Spots song.
