Sarah's presentation was by far the best, she had a shout out to her favorites plus we listened to a bit of her year favorite from her vinyl, awesome! Then again Sarah is awesome anyway so...
@@DiscoStu12081983 saw that tour a couple montha ago. It was one of my favorite shows of the year. Exhumed was with them too and poured blood all over me lol
grindcoremaniac we didn’t get exhumed (bummed about that) but we did get the techy goodness of Archspire (cannot get over how good they were) and Soreption.
@@DiscoStu12081983 Archspire is awesome. I haven't caught them on tour yet but I hope to see them when they come through my city. Soreption is kinda meh to me, though. I wasn't impressed with their most recent album as much as I was with Archspire.
grindcoremaniac Soreption were pretty cool live, I’m not too keen on their latest release either, but they put on a decent enough show to keep us all interested!! I’m still dumbfounded at the level of musicianship on that tour though. Revocation, Rivers of Nihil and Archspire are unreal
Man, Sarah is always on point! I'm always happy to hear what she says because we do share tastes quite a bit. The new Urfaust is amazing! Spectral Wound and Tomb Mold are easily the best black and death of the year, and I had no idea of either Idle Hands or Dautha, and both are now playing on repeat. Sarah, you're awesome! That said, I'm sad the new YOB didn't make it to anyone's list here. That record is just perfect in my opinion, and one of my favorite albums of the decade.
I agree with almost all of you choices but personally I thought that this year it's when I noticed that black metal branched out to a lot of things and mixed very well with almost everything. I mean Imperial triumphant brought a lot of jazz to the formula, the UADA record picked up that traditional heavy metal and blended with black metal. I also thought about the best album myself but the more I tried to figure it out weirdly enough it was the new Deafheaven... Just so emotional and mixed with the shoegaze almost like "bleeding flowers made out from broken glass" hahaha really good
Good call on the BM comment. Indeed black metal has seemed to branch out into a bunch of styles this year, which is where the "Gothic" style you two bros refer to probably comes from. In fact, I'd say that Black Metal in general hasn't been to prominent on the channel this year (Immortal, but they have the optics), though nearly every video has something black metal related to it. I'd call that my 'genre' of the year without even realizing it. For instance, my favs were from THRON, Funeral Mist, Anaal Nathrakh, Anicon, and The Secret. But, it isn't any single album that I think was the best, rather SONGS from bands that are incorporating elements of BM.
Ivan Valadez nice to see people giving Deafheaven some props. They get a lot of shit for being "hipster" but they make great music. I wouldn't be a fan of black metal if it wasn't for them.
If Priest was your number 1 then you didn't listen to enough Metal this year. An Amazing album for Priest their best since Painkiller but theres so many better albums made this year
I will go with my top 20 : Mournful Congregation - The Incubus of Karma A Forest of Stars - Grave Mounds and Grave Mistakes Evoken - Hypnagogia Messa - Feast for Water An Autumn for Crippled Children - The Lights of September Un - Sentiment Sigh - Heir to Despair Daughters - You won't get what you want Pale - EP Convulsing - Grievous Organ: - Everything is pared down. Minimal expectations Comatose Vigil A.K. - Evangelium Nihil Progenie Terrestre Pura - StarCross Abysskvlt - Khaogenesis Paara - Ritti Storm{o} - Ere Portal - ION Selvans - Faunalia Convocation - Scars Across Bliss Signal - Bliss Signal
This is why I think there is way too much metal to listen to nowadays. First, I didnt even realize A Forest of Stars and Sigh put out new music, and of the rest, Paara is the only one I have listened to (quite enjoyed it), ION too I think but I wasnt really into it.
I haven't really listened to a lot of new stuff this year, but this is probably my 3 picks: Immortal - Northern Chaos Gods Deicide - Overtures of Blasphemy Tomb of Finland - Frozen Beneath
Awesome picks from everyone, here's mine, it's a lot, this has been a great year: Svartidauði: Revelations of the Red Sword Uada: Cult of the Dying Sun Behemoth: I Loved You at Your Darkest Spectral Wound: Infernal Decadence Kriegsmaschine: Apocalypticists Lucifer's Child: The Order Valkyrja: Throne Ablaze Bloodbath: The Arrow of Satan is Drawn Skeletonwitch: Devouring Radiant Light Allfather: And All Will Be Desolation At the Gates: To Drink From the Night Itself Watain: Trident Wolf Eclipse Blood of Serpents: Sulphur Sovereigns Tribulation: Down Below Black Fast: Spectre of Ruin Chapel of Disease: ...And as We Have Seen the Storm, We Have Embraced the Eye Funeral Mist: Hekatomb Ghost: Prequelle Halestorm: Vicious Haken: Vector Firtan: Okeanos Whoredom Rife: Nid - Hymner av hat Khemmis: Desolation Horrendous: Idol Ihsan: Ámr Idles: Joy as an Act of Resistance Wolfheart: Constellation of the Black Light
Every person that goes "OMG a saxophone in metal!" and I just think to myself "so... Never heard Pan-Thy-Monium huh?" haha. Granted I likely only know them from fanboy-ing over Dan Swano 10-14 years ago lol
I think it's pretty overrated. A lot of initial wow factor due to the tone, but not very many good riffs, long stretches of kinda uninteresting extreme sections, and some pretty bad production choices, gets kinda pumpy in the drums and guitars. It's okay and clearly has good ideas but the execution is a bit lacking. Imo one of the weaker high-profile progressive/tech death albums this year, not as strong as Augury - Illusive Golden Age, Revocation - The Outer Ones, Slugdge - Esoteric Malacology, Cryptopsy - Tome II, maybe even Psycroptic - As The Kingdom Drowns.
Hell yeah, I've been waiting for this video. Now we just need a "Worst of 2018" cuz I enjoy seeing Brad rage, and I need more than smiling from Dylan If I had to pick my top 3 best, it'd be: 3. Watain - Trident Wolf Eclipse 2. Immortal - Northern Chaos Gods 1. Behemoth - ILYAYD
Love these best of vids. Always give me new stuff to listen too since I don't keep up with much outside of who I really listen to. Luka Modric always has the best reviews on here lmao.
my top 5: 1 Queen of Time - Amorphis 2 Firepower - Judas Priest 3 Avatar - Avatar Country 4 Rivers of Nihil - Where Owls Know My Name 5 Korpiklaani - Kulkija
So glad you chose Oceans of Slumber!! Super underrated band! I like the variety of metal genres you picked and not just thrash and death. Much appreciated!
Top 5 albums of this year 5) Portal - Ion 4) At The Gates - To Drink From The Night Itself 3) Rivers of Nihil - Where Owls Know My Name 2) Sleep - The Sciences 1) Horrendous - Idol
Agreed! I mentioned Genocide Pact in my initial video, so check that out if you haven't yet (also the drummer's other band, Innumerable Forms), plus Hyperdontia...so much cool shit!
Construct of Lethe - Exiler. A gem nobody seems to pay attention to . I warmly recommend you to give it a listen. That one and Horrendous - Idol are probably my 2 favorite death metal albums this year.
@@welwitschia Sure will. Kriegsmaschine, Funeral Mist, Mare, Helrunar, Watain, Ováte, Clandestine Blaze, UADA, Misotheist, Outre - Not in order, but these were my favourites so far. Still have about 8-10 albums I need to listen to including Aethyrick, and Voodus.
@@CrabJuice83 Thanks! I heard a couple of these, but haven't checked the others. Some of my favorites this year--not on your list or the video--were the new ones by: The Lion's Daughter, Panegyrist, Ultha, Tractatus, Ails, Gaylord, Selvans and Unreqvited. They're a bit more left-field than the ones you mentioned, but all of them of exceptional quality.
Excellent picks BANGER! I'm going to have to look up some of these bands. Here's my short list: 1. Judas Priest - Firepower 2. Amorphis- Queen of Time 3. Voivod- The Wake 4. Satan- Cruel Magic
My album of the year is Yob's Our Raw heart but some pretty picks from you guys, some of them I haven't checked out yet so I'm going to listen to them soon. Shout out to Blayne and Sarah for mentioning Urfaust and Panopticon. Then, how cool is it to have my name on the credits?! You're great guys, keep going
Albums of the year 2018 Dragonlord Dominion: Awesome symphonic Black thrash mix of Testament, Children of Bodom, and Witchery Ghost Prequelle: Glammy rock album full of ear candy that gets stuck in your head. Bloodshot Dawn Reanimation: Melodic (Techy Maybe?) Death Metal that has awesome very Japanesey/videogamey delicious riffs Judas Priest Firepower: Great heavy metal from the kings, favorite new Priest record since Angel of Retribution Necrophobic Mark of the Necrogram: Fun album, more Black Metal than death metal. Different lyrical content than your typical black metal fare. There’s a song about the Tsar Bomba Homewrecker Hell Is Here Now: Most headbangingist album of the year for me. Jungle Rot Jungle Rot: Great chunky death metal, lots of Bolt Thrower/Memoriam sounds in here. They did Memoriam better than Memoriam did this year Visigoth Conqueror’s Oath: A great continuation from their first album. Traditional metal from my homeboys in Salt Lake City. Fantastic vocals Carnation Chapel of Abhorrence: Solid death metal album. Very Cannibal Corpsey Memoriam The Silent Vigil: Not as good as their first album, still some good chunky metal. Where their first album was more like getting run over by a tank, this one is more like getting slowly buried in concrete Worth mentioning Rivers of Nihil where owls know: interesting album, great studying/reading music. That is such a sexy phone. Horrendous Idol: Disappointing album for me. I love their other albums and was most excited for this albums release. Unfortunately it doesn’t do anything for me. I zone out every time I listen to it and forget what I just heard.
Gotta love Dylan... First guy to bring the name of ne obliviscaris to the show. First to mention my current fav band oceans of slumber. And he is wearing an awesome leprou t as well. Kudos Mr Dylan well done.
1. The Atlas Moth - Coma Noir 2. Rivers of Nihil - Where Owls Know My Name 3. Between the Buried and Me - Automata I & II (2 parts that count as 1) 4. Behemoth - I Loved You At Your Darkest 5. Ihsahn - Amr
Man, I've spent so much of the year diving into the old black and death metal bands that influence today's extreme metal that I haven't really bothered to check out any new metal coming out this year. The only new albums that have been on my radar at all was the Rivers of Nihil album and Behemoth's I Loved You at Your Darkest. Looks like I have some catching up to do, and thanks for giving me a starting point.
Some pretty great pics in here! One album I don't hear enough people talking about, my AOTY, is 'Horizon Ablaze - The Weight of a Thousand Suns'. The other tops for me that were not mentioned, Parius - The Eldritch Realm, Rolo Tomassi - Time Will Die and Love Will Bury It, The Crotals - Horde, Skeletonwitch - The Devouring Mortality, Gaerea - Unsettling Whispers, Beyond Creation - Algorythm and Revocation - The Outer Ones. Yeah, I'm all over the place.
Band is awesome! I actually wrote about them (and Old Wounds, Zeal & Ardor, Rivers of Nihil and Imperial Triumphant) for Exclaim!: exclaim.ca/music/article/old_wounds_zeal_and_ardor_rolo_tomassi_and_rivers_of_nihil_lead_an_experimental_year_in_metal
My 5 picks in no order are: Sectioned - Annihilated Malthusian - Across Deaths Voices - Frightened Abyssal/Carcinoma - Apanthropinization Split. Svalbard - It's Hard To Have Hope
Great job interesting picks not necessarily my faves but cool nonetheless. My picks 1- Funeral Mist Hekatomb 2- Seige of Power Warning Blast 3- Monstrosity Passage of Existence
River of Nihil for me. I only heard it this week, and my mind was blown. I've been listening to metal for 20 years, and that album was one of the better things I've heard in like 10+ years. Just mental. Props to them.
I just knew Oceans of Slumbers, and it is one of the best of 2018...more for me: Dragonlord - Dominion, Erra - Neon, Subsignal - La Muerta, Khemmis - Desolation, Borealis - The Offering, Susperia - The Lyricist, Beyond Creation - Algorythm, Kalmah - Palo...Dimmu Borgir and Behemoth as well..
that Oceans of Slumber album deserves way more recognition than it's gotten. One of my biggest regrets of 2018 was missing them when they came through town several months back
It is amazing how broad the genre of metal is that you can have so many varied releases and they all fall under the umbrella of metal. That is why it is the best musical genre. Most of my favorites didn't even get a mention. Yob, Sleep, Forming the Void, Horrendous, Spaceslug, Uncle Acid, Khemmis...
Beastmaker dropped a shit load of Eps this year two which are gold. And although not Doom the new Corrosion of Conformity is a beast of the album, and everything someone could hope for with the return of Pepper.
Best albums for me in no particular order: Harms Way - Posthuman Rivers of Nihil - Where Owls Know My Name Panopticon - The Scars Of Man on the Once Nameless Wilderness Zeal And Ardor - Stranger Fruit Wolf King - Greater Power Sojourner - The Shadowed Road Night Verses - Phoenix IV: Levitation Wayfarer - World's Blood Unreqvited - Stars Wept To The Sea Fit for A King - Dark Skies
Banger always reminds me of why I don't listen to modern metal. It's either overly tech with death vocals or someone copying what's already been done been.
I think you are right. Most of the modern metal bands are out there and they are pretty good. But the problem is I wanna hear something new. There are lots of Death and Gorguts copy band. Metal world is blooming that's true but there are now less and less bands which has a deeper influence.
1. Yob - Our Raw Heart 2. Rivers of Nihil - Where Owls Know My Name 3. Beyond Creation - Algorithm 4. Aborted - TerrorVision 5. Panopticon - The Scars of Man on the Once Nameless Wilderness
My picks are: 1.Uada-cult of a dying sun 2.Ingested-the level above human 3.Harakiri for the sky-arson 4.Sorgelig-apostate 5.Tractatus-Ὀφιολατρεία 6.Ineffable Demise-beyond the Marrow Gates 7.Isolde-surreal Summer Spleen 8.Facelift deformation-dominating the extermination 9.Archgoat-the luciferian crown 10.Ocean of grief-nightfall's lament
I was big into 'Underworlds' by Mammoth Grinder, but this year's release just didn't hit the same spot for me. I'm also not really into epic doom. Thank you for watching!
Dorian L It's good to know I am not the only one who thought ILYAYD was on the boring side. What a disappointing album. Hate Eternal's "Upon Desolate Sands" was easily my no.1 album for 2018. Check it out. You won't be disappointed.
My favorite album this year is certainly Striker - Play to win ! My favorite genre of music is Melodic Death but damn that Play to win was awesome ! Incredible sounds, really huge 80's feel, feels like you can ride your care, windows open in the heat of summer while blasting Summoner or On The Run. Great find !
For more 2018 recommends here's a handy playlist of all the albums we rated 4.5 or 5 this year: th-cam.com/video/UrG0LvJ_ByQ/w-d-xo.html
Sorry but I'm going with Corrosion of Conformity - No Cross, No Crown. Also the new Unleased and new Gruesome. Surprised no one mentioned Judas Priest - Fire Power.
When Blayne doesn't pick Sleep - The Sciences. I honestly thought that was a safe bet XD
I'm going With "Reverence" by Parkway Drive
Thank you for the list! Baltzeg I had this in my honorable mentions for the year.
Gotta love how each member of Banger is basically a metal subgenre
Sam Dunn a good job picking the team
This is why love this channel. Im tired of big music pages and magazines (rolling stone) with people talking about music they dont know/love, i trust this channel because of the different opinions of the whole crew.
Completely Agree the only grip last year was there was no one for Prog but now with the Amazing addition of Dylan all areas of Metal are covered!
These are the best ten in a fairly weak year:
1. A Forest of Stars --- Grave Mounds & Grave Mistakes
2. Drudkh --- Їм часто сниться капіж
3. Agrimonia --- Awaken
4. VOLA --- Applause From a Distant Crowd
5. Deicide --- Overtures of Blasphemy
6. Hanzel und Gretyl --- Satanik Germanik
7. Thy Catafalque --- Geometria
8. Voivod --- The Wake
9. Monolithe --- Nebula Septem
10. Paara --- Riitti

morbidcorpse Not what he was talking about.
Rivers of Nihil - Sax Offenders of 2018
hahahahahaha
Noice
Nothing wrong with being on the offensive though. Sax can be sick in metal
hmmm
This joke sax
There needs to be a "Rivers of Nihil" + "Ne Obliviscaris" tour called the Sax & Violins tour.
I see what you did there ^^
With Ayreon as the headliner?
They are touring Australia together next year with beyond creation and Caligula horse
If ne obliviscaris do the portal of i on that hypothetical tour, i would die happy
Though strictly speaking i am more of a death dude, love rings of saturn, within destruction, that stuff, but ne obliviscaris are just something else

Cheers friend!
Thanks for Panopticon, Blayne. Very cool.
Panopticon made a huge leap this year. They improved from a one-star-per-album band to a two-star band. A 100% improvement!
I was surprised by how little mention they got. I don’t really like Pt 2, might by why it didn’t make many lists, but that Pt. 1 tho!
Great choices guys ! My top five is :
Amorphis - Queen of Time
Ungfell - Mythen, Mären, Pestilenz
Immortal - Northern Chaos Gods
Unleashed - The Hunt for White Christ
Rivers of Nihill - Where Owls Know My Name

Lots of fun! So much great metal out there. Thank you for keeping us abreast.
My top 3 are Beyond Creation's Algorythm, Axis of Despair's Contempt for Man, and Revocation's The Outer Ones.
grindcoremaniac I saw Revocation last night, with support from Rivers of Nihil. Genuinely one of the best gigs I’ve been took
But, it isn't any single album that I think was the best, rather SONGS from bands that are incorporating elements of BM.
black metal has always really done that. This is not new. Black metal is the most varied of the metal subgenres
@@deliciousdishes4531 cool!!
Thanks for mentioning Deafheaven.
Love them.
Ivan Valadez nice to see people giving Deafheaven some props. They get a lot of shit for being "hipster" but they make great music. I wouldn't be a fan of black metal if it wasn't for them.
judas priest - firepower!!!
the best metal album of the last 5 our 6 years
Obviously. Not sure why it was not in this video. Sad...
If Priest was your number 1 then you didn't listen to enough Metal this year. An Amazing album for Priest their best since Painkiller but theres so many better albums made this year
If you're into cheese, yes.
@@Qwerty-ks8dn No, that's Ghost.
Outre-Tombe is my AOTY, too. What an insane ripper.
Just going to pick that up from the post office tomorrow
deathangelofdeath misread that as insane nipple
I will go with my top 20 :
Mournful Congregation - The Incubus of Karma
A Forest of Stars - Grave Mounds and Grave Mistakes
Evoken - Hypnagogia
Messa - Feast for Water
An Autumn for Crippled Children - The Lights of September
Un - Sentiment
Sigh - Heir to Despair
Daughters - You won't get what you want
Pale - EP
Convulsing - Grievous
Organ: - Everything is pared down. Minimal expectations
Comatose Vigil A.K. - Evangelium Nihil
Progenie Terrestre Pura - StarCross
Abysskvlt - Khaogenesis
Paara - Ritti
Storm{o} - Ere
Portal - ION
Selvans - Faunalia
Convocation - Scars Across
Bliss Signal - Bliss Signal
This is why I think there is way too much metal to listen to nowadays. First, I didnt even realize A Forest of Stars and Sigh put out new music, and of the rest, Paara is the only one I have listened to (quite enjoyed it), ION too I think but I wasnt really into it.
Love this channel. I get turned on to so many new bands!
Hell yeah!
same here !!
I haven't really listened to a lot of new stuff this year, but this is probably my 3 picks:
Immortal - Northern Chaos Gods
Deicide - Overtures of Blasphemy
Tomb of Finland - Frozen Beneath
Awesome picks from everyone, here's mine, it's a lot, this has been a great year:

Behemoth: I Loved You at Your Darkest
Spectral Wound: Infernal Decadence

Firtan: Okeanos
Whoredom Rife: Nid - Hymner av hat
Khemmis: Desolation
Horrendous: Idol
Ihsan: Ámr
Idles: Joy as an Act of Resistance
Wolfheart: Constellation of the Black Light
Good taste, my friend. Wolfheart and Valkyrja are in my top 10. Firtan and Uada are honorable mentions.
Frontierer is unsettlingly heavy and I love it
"That sax was so new and risky"
prog fan- *rolls eyes
Every person that goes "OMG a saxophone in metal!" and I just think to myself "so... Never heard Pan-Thy-Monium huh?" haha. Granted I likely only know them from fanboy-ing over Dan Swano 10-14 years ago lol
@@doomusrlc Pan.Thy.Monium rips my dude, Dan is the fucking man but yeah, sax is nothing new, especially when Munkeby is in question hahaha
Aborym - Psychogrotesque anyone?
@@darwinism18 don't know this, guess I will check it out!
@@doomusrlcSolefald has been using the sax since as early as 2003 as well
Thank god for Brad. I think his choice was the only one I was interested in checking out, frontierer.
Rivers of Nihil is album of the decade
Checked them out due to your comment and they were dope. Thanks
@Pseudo Absolutely. Esoteric Malacology and Insomnium's WInter's Gate, too.
Dyscarnate surpasses.
@@Gatordad1717 thank you
I think it's pretty overrated.
And just like always, you guys show me where the good metal is at. Merry Christmas!
Hell yeah, I've been waiting for this video. Now we just need a "Worst of 2018" cuz I enjoy seeing Brad rage, and I need more than smiling from Dylan
If I had to pick my top 3 best, it'd be:
3. Watain - Trident Wolf Eclipse
2. Immortal - Northern Chaos Gods
1. Behemoth - ILYAYD
OH BABY LET ME RAGE!
I first thought this was your worst of. And I saw behemoth and was like wtf. Because I think in every worst of, machine head has to be #1.
@@schlejel good call. Fixed it!
Behemoth had one of the worst albums of the year. Ilyayd was the worst album they have ever released...
Love these best of vids. Always give me new stuff to listen too since I don't keep up with much outside of who I really listen to. Luka Modric always has the best reviews on here lmao.
my top 5:
1 Queen of Time - Amorphis
2 Firepower - Judas Priest
3 Avatar - Avatar Country
4 Rivers of Nihil - Where Owls Know My Name
5 Korpiklaani - Kulkija
So glad you chose Oceans of Slumber!! Super underrated band! I like the variety of metal genres you picked and not just thrash and death. Much appreciated!
Wow Sarah's room is incredible. How many vinyl are there?
The plural of vinyl is vinyl...
I would accept an invite😁👍
@@CountNazgul93 Good to know, thanks.
She's a DJ so that's a given.

Top 5 albums of this year
5) Portal - Ion
4) At The Gates - To Drink From The Night Itself
3) Rivers of Nihil - Where Owls Know My Name
2) Sleep - The Sciences
1) Horrendous - Idol
Lots of great death metal this year like Tomb Mold, Of Feather and Bone, and Outer Heaven.
Agreed! I mentioned Genocide Pact in my initial video, so check that out if you haven't yet (also the drummer's other band, Innumerable Forms), plus Hyperdontia...so much cool shit!
Just new Unleashed and Gruesome for me. I prefer Old School sounding Death metal.
Construct of Lethe - Exiler. A gem nobody seems to pay attention to . I warmly recommend you to give it a listen. That one and Horrendous - Idol are probably my 2 favorite death metal albums this year.
And on the proggier side, Horrendous - Idol.
That Tomb Mold record is fucking awesome.
GREAT shoutout on Oceans of Slumber! good lord it's incredible!
Disturbing lack of Black Metal considering how insane the year has been for Black Metal.
True. Care to share your favorites?
@@welwitschia Sure will.
Kriegsmaschine, Funeral Mist, Mare, Helrunar, Watain, Ováte, Clandestine Blaze, UADA, Misotheist, Outre - Not in order, but these were my favourites so far. Still have about 8-10 albums I need to listen to including Aethyrick, and Voodus.
@jussi __ I have not, but I'll see if I can get round to it before too long. Sounds intriguing.
@jussi __ Thanks man, will do.
Here's my short list:
1. Judas Priest - Firepower
2. Amorphis- Queen of Time
3. Voivod- The Wake
4. Satan- Cruel Magic
yooooooo idk how i missed outre tombe but thats some serious stuff right there
Happy holidays, guys!
Oceans Of Slumber is pretty good. They do an incredible cover of Candlemass' Solitude.
Albums of the year 2018
Dragonlord Dominion: Awesome symphonic Black thrash mix of Testament, Children of Bodom, and Witchery
Ghost Prequelle: Glammy rock album full of ear candy that gets stuck in your head.
Bloodshot Dawn Reanimation: Melodic (Techy Maybe?) Death Metal that has awesome very Japanesey/videogamey delicious riffs
Judas Priest Firepower: Great heavy metal from the kings, favorite new Priest record since Angel of Retribution
Necrophobic Mark of the Necrogram: Fun album, more Black Metal than death metal. Different lyrical content than your typical black metal fare. There’s a song about the Tsar Bomba
Homewrecker Hell Is Here Now: Most headbangingist album of the year for me.
Jungle Rot Jungle Rot: Great chunky death metal, lots of Bolt Thrower/Memoriam sounds in here. They did Memoriam better than Memoriam did this year
Visigoth Conqueror’s Oath: A great continuation from their first album. Traditional metal from my homeboys in Salt Lake City. Fantastic vocals
Carnation Chapel of Abhorrence: Solid death metal album. Very Cannibal Corpsey
Memoriam The Silent Vigil: Not as good as their first album, still some good chunky metal. Where their first album was more like getting run over by a tank, this one is more like getting slowly buried in concrete
Worth mentioning
Rivers of Nihil where owls know: interesting album, great studying/reading music. That is such a sexy phone.
Horrendous Idol: Disappointing album for me. I love their other albums and was most excited for this albums release. Unfortunately it doesn’t do anything for me. I zone out every time I listen to it and forget what I just heard.
Way to take the time to post that!
Gotta love Dylan... First guy to bring the name of ne obliviscaris to the show. First to mention my current fav band oceans of slumber. And he is wearing an awesome leprou t as well. Kudos Mr Dylan well done.
For me, the best album of 2018 is Warrel Dane - Shadow Work, you should make a video about this album!
Heavy Nation yes! yes! Yes! Warrel and nothing else!
1. The Atlas Moth - Coma Noir
2. Rivers of Nihil - Where Owls Know My Name
3. Between the Buried and Me - Automata I & II (2 parts that count as 1)

Listen to Ihsahn’s After for awesome sax-infused metal
it's all over the place rn. Arkheth as well this year. Last year there were a few as well. It seems like especially black metal likes that gimmick
he can't stop releasing great metal that does wild shit.
DeliciousDishes I dunno if I’d call it a gimmick since it tends to work so damn well, but it’s definitely a trend
Nicholas Romig I know! I fucking love Ihsahn
Red Scalp also has some sax going on the Lost Ghosts album. They're more of a Stoner band, but still a fantastic album.
Looks like I have some catching up to do, and thanks for giving me a starting point.
archgoat will be no.1 hopefully
The new Archgoat destroys! Hellyeah.
Any love for Rolo Tomassi - Time Will Die And Love Will Bury It?? Not sure if they really fit into Metal, but amazing album anyways

Anaal Nathrakh's A New Kind of Horror is a beautiful album.
Agreed! Hope you dug my review of it haha. Wish I could have shouted out more albums.
River of Nihil for me. I only heard it this week, and my mind was blown. I've been listening to metal for 20 years, and that album was one of the better things I've heard in like 10+ years. Just mental. Props to them.
4:11 cracked me up so hard.
Metal Comedy FTW
My top 3: Obliteration - Cenotaph Obscure; Svartidaudi - Revelations of the Red Sword; Imperial Triumphant - Vile Luxury

that Oceans of Slumber album deserves way more recognition than it's gotten. One of my biggest regrets of 2018 was missing them when they came through town several months back
Besides At the Gates, I don't know any of these bands! I'm so out of the loop
Good thing for Overkill Reviews so you can get in the loop! 🙌😈

Seriously how has the new inferi completely passed you by?
That rules. No doubt.
Serious lack in good doom guys. WHERE IS SLEEP?!? WHERE IS BONGRIPPER???
Beastmaker dropped a shit load of Eps this year two which are gold. And although not Doom the new Corrosion of Conformity is a beast of the album, and everything someone could hope for with the return of Pepper.
Probably in the basement steamboxing the reefer.
Yob
Dopethrone? Acid Witch?
New Sleep is so overrated
Best albums for me in no particular order:
Harms Way - Posthuman
Rivers of Nihil - Where Owls Know My Name
Panopticon - The Scars Of Man on the Once Nameless Wilderness
Zeal And Ardor - Stranger Fruit
Wolf King - Greater Power
Sojourner - The Shadowed Road
Night Verses - Phoenix IV: Levitation
Wayfarer - World's Blood
Unreqvited - Stars Wept To The Sea
Fit for A King - Dark Skies
Banger always reminds me of why I don't listen to modern metal. It's either overly tech with death vocals or someone copying what's already been done been.
I think you are right. Most of the modern metal bands are out there and they are pretty good. But the problem is I wanna hear something new. There are lots of Death and Gorguts copy band. Metal world is blooming that's true but there are now less and less bands which has a deeper influence.
Clearly doesn't listen to any actual modern metal

Firepower must be in there! Behemoth not so much...
Firepower was awesome, classic Priest. Behemoth was really pretentious and boring. They tried too hard to be edgy.
Dorian L It's good to know I am not the only one who thought ILYAYD was on the boring side. What a disappointing album. Hate Eternal's "Upon Desolate Sands" was easily my no.1 album for 2018. Check it out. You won't be disappointed.
Awesome. Loved the love for Tribulation, Tomb Mold, and Panopticon. So many other good picks too!
