Humans complain and get sick about eating fresh food. Meanwhile a hyena doesn't get sick and eats a piece of soggy rotting carcass that's been in stagnant water that's probably full of piss and shit.

I think more than likely he was smelling the surface of the water. Blood drops and scents rose to the surface. They spread out in a certain area. That’s why it took many attempts. He dunked his head to search for the for the food…..
Sometimes hyenas will swim underwater to get the food that has sinked

Vultures are the same way. Very important birds.
@@DuchessofEarlGrey Indeed, scavengers are very underappreciated (even if spotted hyenas aren't pure scavengers). As for vultures, just look at India. The whole ecosystem is a mess ever since vultures became near extinct there.

@@DuchessofEarlGrey Precisely. When vultures eat corpses, they also kill any disease it might have had. Stray dogs and rats don't. That's a big reason behind the huge increase in feral and street dogs in India, as well as diseases. The dogs pass their diseases onto other wild mammals such as wolves, jackals, dholes and hyenas as well. And their large numbers in human cities and villages even attracts leopards. The whole ecosystem is fucked.
@@megadracosaurus Yeah, their stomach acid is crazy deadly to bacteria. Not pretty birds (I'm guessing the naked heads is because it's easier to keep clean when they feed?) but they're a keystone species. Open season on poachers! $1000 a head!
