I have the same refrigerator, same dang problem ice accumulating in the refrigerator return vent lower left side. I replaced the bi metal switch, and it helped. That's really a design flaw. It's gotten worse over the years. The Styrofoam retains water that freezes up and blocks the air return.
Hi! On the freezer side, what is the big hole at the bottom-- a drain or a vent? You reference an air vent at the bottom in your video, but I'm unclear where it is--if it's not the big hole, is it to the right side? Thanks for the helpful video!
I replaced the defrost timer, and evaporator bi-metal switch working like new. I worked on refrigerators in heating and air cond. school. Ohm the heater it was good keeping my frig, in the lower 30s . Clean your condenser coils will help make it colder.
@KatherineRyendose I'm a little licensed hvac mechanic. I have worked on refrigerators in school. These new ones I don't know about them as much. My Whirlpool refrigerator, I may help ask me.

Good job, Man! Thinking outside the box for the win we have the same situation so I will try it at home. Thank you again.
Thanks for this awesome and informative video. My fridge side is not cool so I'm gonna give it a go. Thanks again sir!
Glad to help
Thanks for posting, good to know this
Glad to help Refrigerators, it turns out, are very easy to repair, unless the condenser goes out.
Nice , thank you
Thank you very much!! Great information!!
You're very welcome!

The small round one at the bottom is a drain.
Thanks. Do you leave the refrigerator side to the coldest setting?
No need. That setting mechanism no longer does anything.
Worked! Thank you!!!!
You're welcome!
Great video! Are you normally supposed to feel air coming from the return vent? I put my hand in front and don’t feel any air blowing.
No, the return vent goes to the freezer from the refrigerator side.
Should frost be on wall of inside freezer
no
I have a question for You. How often (min) does your refri turns on and off after You fixed ir and working well?
I do not know, exactly but I would say it runs about the same as any other fridge.
What if you don't use ice maker on side by side
I guess you could remove it and have more room in the freezer. Make sure the water is disconnected.
Did they say why the bottom section was iced solid?
The return vent from the refrigerator side was clogged with frost. It happens over time I guess.
Did you solve your problem? I believe a thermal heat tape in that area to make the ice never have a chance to start accumulating.
It did, but the frost issue in the return has to be dealt with from time to time.
