The last example of bathroom was the best one to understand.

In top-down processing, perceptions begin with the most general and move toward the more specific. These perceptions are heavily influenced by our expectations and prior knowledge. 1 Put simply, your brain applies what it knows to fill in the blanks and anticipate what's next.

Bottom-up or top-down, the human mind is an amazing thing.

One of the things about top-down processing, they have build in our mind as a habit, most the times. Whenever we have form a habit, we ignore small details and try to look in to big picture and process information in different level. See the example in this videos like reading, driving and going to restroom.

Thank you so much for this video! Helped me so much! Top down processing uses schemas to help interpret .
Richard Gregory is still alive today and there's a video of him explaining top down and bottom up.

19 year old here. Ever since quarantine I put my life upside down, realizing I deserve better for myself. Your higher self is waiting on you bro, here’s how I did it.
    - Lifting every single day, including stretching, yoga and cardio
    - read a book a week
    - got an internship and work for a purpose (now paid)!
    - quit my addiction to weed and porn (+230 SR streak!)
I've even started a youtube channel to spread this internal knowledge we all know of. If you are on the path, my content will remind you why you do what you do. STAY STRONG Y’ALL!

13 is technically a letter when wrote down because it defines a quantity. But when spoken it signifies a quantity. Only when counting the quantity is it a number.

I think bottom up processing is constructive in nature as from sensory raw material we are constructing the whole picture whereas top down processing is reductionist cuz from whole we are pointing out details hence doing reduction . But you said it vice Versa kindly confirm .

I'm currently studying psychology and am already preparing for the first exam. However, I'm stuck on a question/topic and can't get any further🥲. Maybe someone can help me please. "Which direction of information processing sets in when you start worrying about going to the restaurant before entering the restaurant. What role do higher-level knowledge structures play, what role do environmental stimuli play?" ... I think it all has to do with scheme and bottom-up/top-down, but I don't quite understand what it has to do with thinking before entering a place. I don't understand that at all. It's about 2 work colleagues meeting again after a long time in a course "social cognition" but both of them didn't have much to do with each other before and the woman suddenly finds him sympathetic and that's why the two meet in a restaurant (but the story has nothing to do with love).

    A top_down processing is:
    1_ knowledge_driven
    2_ sensations_driven
    3_ data_driven
    4_ Stimuli_driven
Which one is correct please 🥺

From what I can see, perception is always top-down, and there is no argument for bottom-up. We just assume that top-down processing isn't at play when we remove the letters, even though the perception cannot be explained without reference to how we use knowledge, from past experience, to construct the perception, which seems to obviously make it top-down processing.

Your last example is flawed, Autistic people rely on bottom-up processing. But we also can see quite well in the dark. So, we would likely not turn on the light, because we can see the data in the dark and so find the toilet. Actually, turning in the olight is too bright for us and would blind iust.. Oopsie, a flaw in your example. But, we Autistic people don't use top-down processing. When I was around 7, apparently, I got up in my sleep to walk to the bathroom and use the toilet. I walked past my father and some friends who were up late playing poker. I caused a huge embarassment because while I walked to the bathroom, I didn't raise the toilet lid before I peed, thereby peeing all over the toilet seat. Why ? I'm Autistic, and I can't use top down processing, so I did not have a "big picture" or expectation that would have informed me to raise the toilet seat before going to the bathroom.

This was a cool video, but I think it is important to recognize and clarify that these processes were not created, but rather recognized and defined by the aforementioned gentlemen. Top-down processors are something of a rarity, but we have been around for as long as humans have walked the Earth.
