Phil does melancholy so well! Check out “Separate Lives!” I love it! It is a ballad from the movie White Nights, also love that with two of my favorite dancers! ❤️🔥✌🏻🫶🏻
Love that movie. White Nights rarely gets the recognition it deserves. Mikhail Baryshnikov & Gregory Hines were amazing in it & those dance scenes were fantastic. Helen Mirren in her early days. Tough story about the Iron Curtain days starring the legendary man himself who actually did defect (Baryshnikov)... and still teaches ballet. I can't fathom the opportunity to learn under him. Gregory Hines left us too soon, but was a master of his craft, as well. The combination of those 2 very different dancers was phenomenal. I still remember seeing it in the theater & will pull up scenes quite often.
There was a time in the 80's-early 90's where you could not escape Phil. Between Genesis, and his solo stuff, not to mention he was drumming for everyone, and even had a few acting gigs here and there.
I just always have loved Phil collins from a little boy to a 48 year old man on my all time favorite singers and drummer he had so many great iconic songs his solo career and with genesis also. Phil owned the 80s many his songs on tv show Miami vice and he was even in a bunch of episodes as actor as well . Phil the myth the man the legend
Phil’s band mate in Genesis is Mike Rutherford - he had a solo project called Mike & The Mechanics. Their song “The Living Years” was a big hit and is about father/son relationships.
Fellow Gen Xer here...I just realized recently Phil Collins has been a life long favorite without me realizing it. So many songs I've loved since I was a kid. It took me forever to realize they all had one thing in common. :D
BP, you probably didn't even realize several times you have reacted to songs where Phil was playing drums for other artists. He just loves music. He has a degenerative nerve disease and had a final performance about a year ago. I actually cried. One of the greatest.
Ahh, the mix tape days me and my late husband used to make each other mix tapes back in the 80’s a simple but beautiful gesture 🎹 I’m now going to hunt around to see if I kept any . Thanks BP
"I Wish It Would Rain Down" . A song from PHIL COLLINS' 1989 album "...But Seriously", featuring ERIC CLAPTON (also in the Official Music Video). LYRICS You know I never meant to see you again But I only passed by as a friend (yeah) All this time I stayed out of sight I started wondering why Now I, oh... now I wish it would rain down, down on me Ooh... yes I wish it would rain, rain down on me now Ooh... yes I wish it would rain down, down on me Ooh... yes I wish it would rain on me You said you didn't need me in your life Oh...I guess you were right (yeah) Oh... I never meant to cause you no pain But it looks like I did it again (yeah) Now I, now I know I wish it would rain down, down on me Ooh... yes I wish it would rain, rain down on me now Ooh... girl I wish it would rain down, down on me Ooh... yes I wish it would rain on me Though your hurt is gone, mine's hanging on, inside And I know, well it's eating me through, it's eating me through, night and day I'm just waiting on your sign 'Cause I know, I know I never meant to cause you no pain And I realise I let you down (oh yeah) But I know in my heart of hearts I know I'm never gonna hold you again, no Now I, now I know I wish it would rain down, down on me Oh you know I wish it would rain, rain down on me now Ooh yes I wish it would rain down, down on me Yes you know I wish it would rain down, rain down over me Just rain down over me Just let it rain down, let it rain down, let it rain down Oh yeah Let it rain down, (rain) rain down over me Just let it rain down Just let it rain down, let it rain down Just let it rain
That voice. Phenomenal. Comforting. Such a vulnerability and sincerity in his voice. I Wish It Would Rain Down with Eric Clapton on the guitar is my suggestion other than Against All Odds. He had sooo many hits. 👌🏼👌🏼
Phil did a lot of smooth ballads in the '80's. It was part of his trademark, kind of. Having said that, he could also do some serious pop/rock numbers as well. Just on the, 'No Jack Required', album from 1985 itself, you get a variety of numbers from, 'Sussudio', to, 'Don't Lose My Number', as well as deep cuts like, 'Only You Know And I Know', and, 'I Don't Wanna Know.' Then there's his signature sound in tracks like, 'Take Me Home.' All worth listening to. Phil was a child actor and appeared in, 'Oliver!', on stage up until his voice broke! His main love in life was being a drummer. If was only by chance when Peter Gabriel left Genesis that he took the chance to become their singer. He maintained his work with that band all through his solo career, which started in 1981. You could argue that he was a bit of a workaholic in the 80's as he always had something going on, whether it be solo work, work with other artists or with Genesis. He even had another go at acting in 1988, in the movie, 'Buster', for which he recorded some songs for the soundtrack. He most notable one being his rendition of, 'Groovy Kind of Love', plus a new composition called, 'Two Hearts.'
Definitely listen to Genesis! You can’t go wrong with Phil Collins, with Genesis or Solo! Take Me Home, I don’t care anymore, Tonight Tonight Tonight, Land of Confusion, Separate Lives, I wish it would rain down, etc. what a great reaction 😊yes back when I was a kid to my teen years even to my young adult years, I ALWAYS loved listening to Phil Collins. He got me through many romantic dates and some heart ache break ups. His music is legendary. ❤😊
Phil's songs take me back to my college years. ❤ One of his newer songs that you might have heard: I'll be in Your Heart... from Disney's Tarzan soundtrack.
Do you remember is my favorite song by Phil. It’s a song about breaking up and every word is true for the most part. Phil Collins one of the best artist to ever come along. And there were quit a few good artist in that era. Best music ever as far as I’m concerned.
Phil went to drama school as a child and was in Oliver as the artful dodger in the west end then switched to music,he was the lead in buster and have you heard the ost to disneys Tarzan,he is multi talented,oh he was only meant to be the lead singer in genesis until they found a new one after Peter Gabriel left lol
Collins left Genesis in 1996 to focus on solo work; this included writing songs for Disney's animated film Tarzan (1999). He wrote and performed the songs, "Two Worlds", "Son of Man", "Strangers Like Me" and "You'll Be in My Heart", the latter of which earned him the Academy Award for Best Original Song. He rejoined Genesis for their Turn It On Again Tour in 2007. Following a five-year retirement to focus on his family life, Collins released his memoir in 2016 and completed his Not Dead Yet Tour in 2019. He then rejoined Genesis in 2020 for a second reunion tour, ending in March 2022. 👍🏻🤩🏴
Hey BP, you should make a video about what 5-10 songs you would put on a "shorty mix tape" if you had to make one now using only songs you've recently discovered/reacted to. I think it would be fun!
This song takes me back to my childhood days, watching Phil on Saturday morning's Video Hits with Billy Joel, Billy Ocean, Rick Astley, Jimmy Barnes, Midnight Oil, etc back in OZ.
My daughter went to a performing arts school in London run by Phil’s lovely sister, Carole (a former ice skating champion herself) alongside her daughter and granddaughters. Their entire family have a lengthy history in the music and dramatic arts; hence why Phil’s children, including Hollywood actress daughter Lily, are still involved in film and music. Phil’s mother ran a performing arts school too and he first started in theatre as a child before drumming later in Genesis. A very talented guy. I am a drummer and he is one of my favourites.
Oh yes, sweet memories... Phil's best song in my opinion is "Mama" with his band Genesis. I really appreciate that you react to these lovely songs when music was real and handmade 😊And of course we made mix tapes, too, but never dared to give them to the guys we were in love with 😊😊😊
Phil Collins started acting in his very early high school years while he was pursuing his musical career. He’s been in movies and TV shows. His daughter is Lily Collins (major actress now). The man is just amazingly talented!
Phil loves him some R&B. He grew up on it, loves it. He even went back and did a salute to the legends of R&B as one of his last albums. The dude has rhythm and soul. Man, Phil can sing ballads; hell, he can sing anything. But you are spot on when you mentioned he seems a good actor. As you may know his high school was a drama and music school where he met his first wife. Before that he sang one of the leads in the musical 'Oliver' on the London stage as a youngster. In the '80s the TV cop show Miami Vice played so much of his music they asked him to star in an episode. Damn, he was good in 'Phil the Shill'. Check it out. He also starred in an English film called "Buster" about the great British train robbery in the mid-1960s. It pretty good. Collins is one complicated and talented man.
I know its not considered one of his best songs but Groovy Kind of Love holds such a special place in my heart. Me and my best friend in school use to sing it all the time. She passed last year and I tear up every time I hear it. Worth at least one listen.
He received the knighthood from the late Queen Elizabeth. He was honoured into the arts companion club they have. SIR Elton John is also a member. SIR Phill Colons plays many instruments such as the piano, organ, drums(and other percussion),guitar. SIR Collins is also a beautiful song writer. He trades albums: He puts out a Genesis album then a Single Artist album. Love his music!!❤
Phil is a master of the 'want to make myself feel bad' songs..thinking about what happened. Him and Lionel and stevie ..just great rnb musicians. THis song reminds me of late 80s rnb...like Bobby Brown Rock Witcha ish.
Recommend Against all odds, Into Too Deep and Tonight, Tonight, Tonight too.. great slow songs to make you feel cozy/feel better/feel worse/move emotions/etc. . by the way i got the same feel you did about 80s/90s rnb songs.
When i travelled to Australia 50 years ago phil Collins was my main listening music along with queen, pink Floyd, and i was lucky enough to see all of them live in London
He did act some. He was in at least one episode of "Miami Vice". My favorite heartbreaking song of his the title song for the movie "Against All Odds". You can feel the heartbreak in that video through his acting and the way he delivers the song. .
He was also a child actor before he was a drummer and also had a major role as an adult in the film ’Buster’ as well as a number of cameos in films including the movie ‘Hook’
Omgosh what a beautiful song I love phil!!!! I cry every time I hear this son. Personal reasons. Also I called my late son in law whom I loved.(he was killed by a drunk driver in front of my granddaughter her daddy after his car show. Was famous for hydronic cars. CROME & CANDY CAR CLUB PRAYERS FOR PIGGIE.) BEING BLIND I COULDNT SEE HIS WHOLE FACE I THOUGHT HE LOOKED LIKE PHIL. SO I NICK NAMED HIM PHIL. MEMORIES OF MY PAST RELATIONSHIP. NOW MY SON IN LAW
1985! if you like this track you will pretty much like everything from Phil. He was a constant in my childhood growing up and I'm still a massive, I can picture different events in my life with his songs. And seeing your reaction to hearing him for the first time at the age you are now has given me goosebumps :D x
Chicago your the Inspiration or Chicago hard say I’m sorry both amazing songs from the early 80s that will blow your socks off with the vocals of Peter cetera
He is one of my favorite artists. He's always on my playlists ❤❤❤❤
If you want another side of Phil, check out "I Don't Care Anymore".
I second this!!!
Ahh, angry Phil!
"I Don't Care Anymore", great song, or "Mama" with Genesis
Great song!
The LIVE VERSION of I Don’t Care Anymore is tremendous 😊
Love that movie ❤😊
There was a time in the 80's-early 90's where you could not escape Phil. Between Genesis, and his solo stuff, not to mention he was drumming for everyone, and even had a few acting gigs here and there.
Yep he was everywhere., I can't believe I was once sick of his music. I wish we had such good songs today!
My dad loved Phil and Mike in Genesis, and apart. We fought, and he passed without resolve. "In the Living Years" hits hard.
This would be a great one for BP to react to.
Against all odds, Take me home, You can't hurry love, Genesis - Mama
Also Abacab with Genesis
You can NEVERRRR go wrong with PHIl COLLINS it's impossible
As a Gen Xer Phil Collins is quite literally a part of my DNA 😂 Against All Odds will pop up in my head suddenly without hearing it for years.
Fellow Gen Xer here...I just realized recently Phil Collins has been a life long favorite without me realizing it. So many songs I've loved since I was a kid. It took me forever to realize they all had one thing in common. :D
Against All Odds, great song. ❤

Made lots of mix tapes in the 90's lol
Wish it would rain down
TRUST ME; “I Don’t Care Anymore” is the next Phil Collins song you need to hear 🔥
Phil Collins against all odds is a must
Ahh, the mix tape days me and my late husband used to make each other mix tapes back in the 80’s a simple but beautiful gesture 🎹 I’m now going to hunt around to see if I kept any . Thanks BP
This guy was on the radio back in the 80s and 90s without even tryna look for him
"In Too Deep" by Genesis. That song reminds me of this too.
"I Wish It Would Rain Down" . A song from PHIL COLLINS' 1989 album "...But Seriously",
featuring ERIC CLAPTON (also in the Official Music Video).
LYRICS
You know I never meant to see you again
But I only passed by as a friend (yeah)
All this time I stayed out of sight
I started wondering why
Now I, oh... now I wish it would rain down, down on me
Ooh... yes I wish it would rain, rain down on me now
Ooh... yes I wish it would rain down, down on me
Ooh... yes I wish it would rain on me
You said you didn't need me in your life
Oh...I guess you were right (yeah)
Oh... I never meant to cause you no pain
But it looks like I did it again (yeah)
Now I, now I know I wish it would rain down, down on me
Ooh... yes I wish it would rain, rain down on me now
Ooh... girl I wish it would rain down, down on me
Ooh... yes I wish it would rain on me
Though your hurt is gone, mine's hanging on, inside
And I know, well it's eating me through, it's eating me through, night and day
I'm just waiting on your sign
'Cause I know, I know I never meant to cause you no pain
And I realise I let you down (oh yeah)
But I know in my heart of hearts
I know I'm never gonna hold you again, no
Now I, now I know I wish it would rain down, down on me
Oh you know I wish it would rain, rain down on me now
Ooh yes I wish it would rain down, down on me
Yes you know I wish it would rain down, rain down over me
Just rain down over me
Just let it rain down, let it rain down, let it rain down
Oh yeah
Let it rain down, (rain) rain down over me
Just let it rain down
Just let it rain down, let it rain down
Just let it rain
I adored this man when he was putting out songs like crazy !
Phil Collins is a great artist! So many great songs solo and with Genesis.
Beautiful song. He has so many beautiful songs and cool songs....songs that have meaning.
.
❤❤. Wow. Brings me back to 1985. I was 16, everyone loved him even my great grandma who at the time was hitting 90 yrs old
Yep. It shocked the heck out of me when my 70'year old mother bought one of his CD's. I didn't know she knew what a CD was.
My prom song…from high school.
GREAT one PEGASUS..try against all odds by Phil..it was a great song and movie
That voice. Phenomenal. Comforting. Such a vulnerability and sincerity in his voice.
I Wish It Would Rain Down with Eric Clapton on the guitar is my suggestion other than Against All Odds.

Genesis (Phil Collins) "LONELY MAN ON THE CORNER" 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🙌
Yes!!

Don't forget Disney's Brother Bear
BP ...this is great info and you have most likely heard those disney songs.

Yes mama, excellent one, take me home.
‘Against All Odds’-Probably His Biggest Song As A Solo Artist.

Genius “MaMa”……. Has Phil at his finest.
You forget he is now old loves his music back in the day
Read somewhere recently that for around a decade in the mid 80s and 90s that every 4th song on pop radio had Phil in it.
That's All
