I’m the guy he called. I was in a production meeting at work and our customer service person said sorry to interrupt but Dave Canterbury is on the phone for you. I quickly said finish without me and ran to the phone. He is 100 percent correct. This was a very minor issue. In fact, I told him the cost was insignificant compared to what I have learned from him over the years. The little bit of money was not the issue. It was he has worked hard to build a brand and he needed to have some feedback. He replied immediately. He took care of the issue immediately. He even called me! Anyone that is critical or judgmental has never met him. Never even spoken to him. He is the real deal. His word is his bond.

Wow, I didnt realize you were inspired by Ron Hood too! I bought all of Rons videos and he was so unique, entertaining and educational if everything he produced. As a toolmaker I reached out to him to ask some questions about knives and he helped me get my start, was very generous with his time and gracious with his expertise. Ron was one of a kind and I still miss him.

My stepfather started me down the path of woodcraft/survival/self-reliance/homesteading almost 60 years ago and many of the concepts, ideas and techniques that he taught me I have since seen or witnessed in your videos. So, I know you didn't invent it all or even much of it. Although, I have seen you present some ideas and techniques that I had never seen before in my 65 years. I have never attended a survival school or bushcraft class and at my age I most likely never will. What I do know and can attest to from watching and learning from your videos and what I can know about you from them as a person, is that you are a great contributor to the survival/ bushcraft/ self-reliance community and have certainly put together a great system and training methods. Thank you and the family and the good folks at SRO and the Pathfinder School for your continued contribution.

Dave is actually one of my first references of survival, started around 2010, traveled with very limited gear for some time. Sometimes without shelter due to bad circumstances, including homelessness. Now I make outdoor videos and still watch Dave's content. He mixed his own curriculum of self-reliance, which goes beyond survival. He's got OG status for life !

Life is about learning and growing and not trying to pump up your ego like many others do. Thank you for teaching and being honest and humble!😊

It is 3:15 in the morning and I just finished watching this video. I came to you via two people...Les Stroud and Ron Hood. I first found Mr. Hood through a DVD I purchased at Bass Pro that spoke of survival techniques. I have been interested in this field since the early 90s. Ron Hood was, to me, the first person I had ever seen who took survival and bushcraft seriously. I learned many of the basics from him, and I have noticed much of what he taught in your teachings. I first saw you in Dual Survival. I respected your points of view, teachings, and commitment to reality, even on a TV show, immediately. The episode where you showed that is was possible to cauterize a wound using gun powder sealed it for me. Then I found out that you were so very close to me, in Ohio (I am in Michigan), whereas in the beginning, there were only schools in places like Utah, Colorado, and California. I have now been watching everything that you put out, and catching up on your past videos because I trust you. I commented on one of your past instructor's videos, Shawn Kelly, that I cannot believe how much high quality information that you give for free. This is life altering knowledge, and you just make it so accessible. These are just some of the reasons that my loyalty will always be with the Pathfinder School, and you, Mr. Canterbury. I thank you so very much for all that you do, and all that you are.

I don't think its a rant. I think its you being passionate about what you believe in. You learned the hard way and you built a living on it. And through all of it, one of the many things that shows is your passion for collective learning and sharing information, yes you have a business but I truly believe that you care more about all people learning these skills than anything else. I look forward to the day I can meet you in person and attend one of your classes.

I can't wait to take this instructor course. I got very lucky. My basic course is April 5-8. However the intermediate was full! So my I termediate is in September then advanced in October. This'll give me time to physically prep for the higher physical demands I'm hearing about. I've heard people make those comments about how Dave didn't take one class and all that other stuff. My retort has always been exactly what he said in this video. I'm paying for his time in the field. His blood sweat and tears. This dude has done great work along with his instructors. Can't wait to open my own school back here in Northern Michigan!! God bless you all. See ya in April!

There is no doubt DC has aided and abetted all things bushcraft & survival, immensely, in the last 10 or 15 yrs for sure (if not longer). There are likely thousands of people who are now involved and outdoors because of this fella and his yt channel.. it is however obvious, that gazillions of people since the beginning of time, have tried and done everything under the sun, to keep warm and dry whilst out and about in the woods! Thank you DC for all you have done and all of the improved and better made (and fairly priced) outdoor gear.

I never been to his school but would love to attend. My experience goes back to living in different countries and states and living in the woods for four years in Europe and two years in the PA area. And then I moved into a van. I never knew about the ten C's until a friend of mine back in Europe showed me Dave's Canterbury's list of 10 C's and from there on, i followed that path. I always have the ten c's and when i go long distance or backpacking/camping, i have those ten C's as a basis for everything else. One day, i will attend his school.

Frankly, I would have a field day seeing someone with a massive ego and very little knowledge of a survival subject to debate Dave Canterbury lol He is so to the point, so concise, extremely knowledgeable of anything he pursues, and more then anything speaks with confidence. I have never been to any survival school except Tom Browns Tracker School, I’ve bought a lot of Dave’s products and put them into use through trial and error, but I love how he mentions that you don’t necessarily support his business in any specific way to learn how to survive. You can literally buy anything as long as it fits the criteria needed to work to sustain yourself in the environment your in. I do trust his business and the products he puts out. I hope to one day atleast do his basic course when I get the money.

If I was younger and healthier, I would love to take ALL of your courses. I'd never even consider other schools after becoming familiar with you AND your instructors on YT. But, alas, I'm not able, so I live vicariously and so appreciate the fact that this info is available on YT.
I am a prime example of someone that thought he "invented" something that was apparently commonly know in certain circles and had been thought of, out of necessity, by someone else, just as I did. That would be the use of toggles to allow you to slide polytarps along a line to ideally position them and keep the strain of the rope tension off of the tarp's grommets.
My wife and I frequently camped in public campgrounds that didn't offer a lot of privacy, so I would tie camo tarps from tree to tree, (by the grommets) in an area to block out our neighbors. It sometimes took 4 or 5 tarps to do the job and I rarely got them positioned and overlapped correctly the first, second or third time. Eventually it occurred to me that I could use a single line and loop it through the tarp's grommets, with twigs stuck through the loop I created, to hold the tarp, yet allow me to easily slide it to a new location, if I needed to, by rolling the toggle. I showed this off to a number of my buddies and they thought it was genius. I even cut a bunch of 1/4" wooden dowels to keep with my camping supplies. Turns out to be a common practice in the bushcraft culture now, but for 20+ years I thought It was a technique that I invented.
So you spoke the truth with that observation.

Dave, your integrity shines in all you undertake in these videos. I'm glad to show my thanks by buying some of your products and books.
I had to smile when you mentioned reenacting. I have done a little of that as well, although the bias against WIR (women in the ranks for the uninitiated) runs strong in many places. I knew i was successful in "passing" when i walked into a women's bathroom in full regalia and had women scream. 😊
I have learned so much from your videos. Some info I'll likely never use, but other snippets i could and have incorporated into everyday life.
Not sure I'll get the chance to attend your school. Im old and slow, but still learning.
Thanks for continuing to add to your channel. It's on my short list of YT faves.

self reliance must be taught to children not so much as a tool for survival but to reduce stress and foster better health because a self reliant human will always have the knowledge to not just survive but thrive no matter where on earth the human chooses to live. Take a walk in nature and close your eyes and hear the sounds of nature and ground barefoot to enjoy the healing benefits of grounding to the earth. Once a human experiences self reliance and connection with the earth their lives will never be the same again. Have gratitude for all you have and love one another.,

Dave, thanks for the talk. On the side, I was reminding several Survival Disp.... guys relative to a video on ... "Why not to license up with FCC and wait for shtf emergency comms to be used" was a bad idea overall. I introduced the concept that .. if we are asked to train with firearms, etc, why not with radio comms also?
    Nets matter.
I am pretty sure that you have a General license (Tech for me so far), of which I advised them also.
Not a rant, but we have a good many "survival experts" that are not crafting their craft, but rather misguiding their audience. And I spoke up for that concern.

Dave is still a leader in practical training and methodology and committed to improvements.
Those armchair guys and those hard headed clowns need to stop nitpicking. If you use a ferro rod in your system does it mean you invented the ferro rod?
Grow up and appreciate excellence and practicality and build the community positively to go forward.

I also attest to the quality of customer support. I also encountered an understandable mistake; contacted customer support; and they corrected it right away, no delay.
It demonstrated to me the integrity and thoughtful purposeful meaning of what Dave talked about in this video, even before this video.

Great video Dave, I've been watching you on youtube since 2010, helped me with my ptsd stuff by watching your early videos. You speak like a master. I noticed that the way you unpacked all that information about everything and the way you put it back together from your own experiences were much the same as a martial arts practitioner when they have mastered their art and go on to develop their own system. You sir in my eyes are a grandmaster of your craft much like we get a grandmaster in the martial arts. been there done that messed up time and time again and found the tools for your own tool kit and shared it with people because you can't keep it to yourself and I love that about your system and your evolution. You have a wealth of knowledge that you need to share with those around you. May you be written into the history books as one of the best of the best.

Thank you for the informative video. It's really good background information, I would have never asked about the beginning of your school and business because I think it's personal and private. It's very impressive.

All I can say is the Pathfinder School is the real deal. There's nothing easy about it, but it is also not impossible if you want to succeed. As a lifelong outdoorsman, hunter, and Infantry Veteran, I learned a lot at the Basic Survival course and thoroughly enjoyed myself. The land nav portion is worth the price of admission on its own.
