The 19th century for its other monumental works in Western music was weak on a cappella SATB works for small ensembles. But these were a revelation! Not sure ANYBODY writing in the 1890s wrote better or more charming a cappella songs. Why the entire amateur choral ensembles over the world isn't singing these is a complete mystery given their quality. I too was utterly unfamiliar with these until recently. I brought " Dans ropte Felen." to such a group last night outside Baltimore Maryland USA and my chorister friends were utterly charmed as well. Looks like we've got to learn some Norwegian quickly. Fortunately one of our tenors is a Dutch polyglot so this is manageable. Kudos to whoever published these on TH-cam and the wonderful sounds of Junges Vokalensemble Hannover
