    I find these videos a tad disingenuous, the "Neighborhood Guy" slows down in the sketchy parts of Newburgh and then circles that particular area for impact, but then when the area is getting nice he speeds up because it isn't so dramatic, for example when you made the quick left on Liberty you immediately edited out entire stretches of areas that are on a tremendous upswing, where buildings, homes, and businesses are being remodeled, built new and thriving with bars, bistros, art galleries and a fledgling music scene starting to grow if your schtick is to dramatize the negative then I get it, but you should either be honest in your cinematography or have a disclaimer saying that you are only over-dramatizing the sketchy parts of town. Are there sh#t areas? Yes. Is Newburgh also in its entirety experiencing a wonderful and accelerating renaissance? Also yes! Newburgh is a city with amazing architecture and insane potential and has at least 5x the potential that its cross-Hudson rival Beacon (One of the best-reviewed Towns in the entire U.S.) has!

      If you are white you best be carrying an AK or Thompson in most parts of Newburgh. Better yet stay the hell out altogether. No not a racist but just calling it like I see it. Born and raised there so I know what I'm talking about. Stretches of Liberty street on tremendous upswing?? Ok if you say so, I still stand by what I just said.

    Newburgh has so much potential, it's sad to see so many buildings run down and vacant. Empty lots could be turned into neighborhood parks where needed and other vacant lots given to developers if they agree to build on those lots within a certain time period.

      in the northeast, big cities like nyc and boston sucked the economy straight out of the smaller cities an hour away. just recently, these cities started to see a little TLC after the prices for the big cities got WAY too expensive. but these places still have a long way to go.

    • @mattymatt6970
      @mattymatt6970 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@edgar-iq2ci prior to 2008 recession, you could get a job in most areas. once the recession started, and work started to dry up, people who once lived and worked outside of the big cities, now headed to the big cities, in search of work. more people started to leave their areas to move to those big cities as well, to be closer to work. this started a lot if new building and gentrification. which created a bustling economy in the big cities, while the regions outside continued to lose more population and more jobs.
      it's just a theory I have, but never really confirmed. I lived through it. I had to leave the area i originally lived and worked to find a job in the city, cause there were no jobs left in my area
      if there were, they paid very little, and didnt have many hours. I wound up making triple my usual hourly wage when I moved to the city, and started working 60 hour weeks. meanwhile, anytime I returned home, more people were broke and unemployed, and more buildings were abandoned.
      it wasnt an intentional thing
      it was just a response to the recession. everyone ran to the biggest job centers, in search of work, since there werent many jobs left where they were from.
      but that bustling economy in the big cities started building and snowballing, and spreading outwards to more locations in recent years. especially as more and more people moved further away, in search of cheaper rent, since gentrification raised rent so high in the major cities.

    I spent a week there in 1984 as part of a school exchange program. I don't recall it looking anything like this. From what I remember it was pretty upper-middle class. Maybe they kept us away from these parts, or the city fell into a serious decline.

    What really makes a neighborhood like this successful is a energetic small business segment. Sure it is nice to have a large factory, hospital or financial group employing the residents but that is not the case here. The residents commute to jobs elsewhere and they spend their money elsewhere. Old business fronts abound and they are mostly closed. Few corner Deli's and few areas for recreation. That's my impression am I off base or is my evaluation accurate?
