My Theory:-
The two were died in the hurricane and the remaining two (in which one was scott) survived and they are thrown away to an island very far by the ocean they have their damaged boat some of their packed food and a aluminium foil and a notebook .Somehow they managed to stay there about 7-8 years waiting for the rescue with vegetations and fishing on the island but no one came there they decided to move away from this island by thier own with the damaged boat they have. They took some food and water along with them. After travelling so many miles in the ocean when there was no food left they realised that there were no hope of life now. Then one morning an another hurricane came and they survived it also but their boat was now fully damaged they saw another small island they decided to stay there as scott's health was getting wroser from starvation. On this island the scott died due to open injuries and starvation. His friend burried him in this island along with the notebook (in which they were counting days) as offering. After few more days when no one came there his friend also died there amd when the ocean water rose and covered the island his body lost in the vast ocean or eaten by the aquatic animals.

theory is all other s were swept away in the storm and Scott landed on the island alone. 2nd theory , they all landed on the island and to survive they resorted to cannabilisim and fish, with Scott being the last survivor. he died years later and his dead body was found by Chinese fisherman who buried him according to Chinese rites including the little book. they did not report this because they were fishing illegally and did not want to be identified.

Maybe earlier they didn't did any research properly and maybe when that happened ten years ago he they all got lost in the sea and one by one his all friends died but he saved himself somehow at the time and about that book I guess he was just counting his days on it from pat 10 years and after finishing a month he put there a foilpaper as sign of appreciation that he did it...just a theory though
