The biscuits in the banana pudding are actually, Nilla wafers. Yes they get softer the longer they are in the pudding.
Thanks for the clarification! we were not sure. The Banana pudding was delicious.
You can buy Nilla Wafers in the supermarket; beware they are addictive!
@@thebritstryblue bell makes a banana pudding ice cream that has wafers in it.
I can NOT stand when banana pudding is made with a instant type pudding I like to cook the pudding and pour it hot over the wafers and bananas I think it just better this way
Cracker barrel does a chocolate peanut butter pie that is awesome especially warm
It is amazing to see a sensensible British lady turn into an Alaskan Malamute when it comes to food.
LOL!
It's goo goo like gooey not go go. Pecan pie is easy to make. Those cookies in banana pudding are vanilla wafers you buy at store.
Thanks for the advice! it's a tough one to know how it should be said!
I’m a native Texan, and my grandmother grew up on a peach farm in the Texas Hill Country. She always made peach preserves & peach cobbler with fresh Texas peaches. Peach cobbler is one of my favorite desserts ever, and you’re absolutely right. A good cobbler is like a cross between a sponge cake and a crumble, and should always be served warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top. Also a close second to peach cobbler is blackberry cobbler. SO GOOD!! And yes the cookies in banana pudding are a bit crunchy when it’s fresh, but typically homemade banana pudding sits in the fridge overnight so the cookies soften. No one does dessert like Southerners!!
Thank you for sharing your family tradition with us! It's heartwarming to hear about the connection to your grandmother and the love for peach cobbler.
Peach Cobbler consists of spiced peaches, butter and pie crust then baked until crust achieves a golden appearance. Vanilla ice cream is the topper to cool the warm dessert
Your description of Peach Cobbler has me craving a slice right now! Thanks for watching
If you’re feeling a bit naught, a splash of rum is a nice addition over the peaches
@@thebritstryMight need a visit to Georgia, The Peach State! 🍑 Authentic Peach Cobbler w/ Buttery Crust top & bottom! 🤤
Chilton County, Alabama is the place for peaches. Visit the city of Clanton in Chilton County, Alabama, their peaches are the world's best.
WE recommend what you should try and YOU share your secret to staying trim while eating all this good food.
Lol! give us a few weeks and ask us again.
The vanilla wafers, the cookies in banana pudding, do go soft the longer there in the pudding. There isn't a right way, but personally I think it's kind of nice to have some crunchy ones and some mushy ones. Usually people have some layered in that will get mushy and some on top that will stay mostly crunchy
That's a great point! Variety in texture can add to the overall experience of enjoying banana pudding.
Another great video Nicola and Andrew. I found a definition of a cobbler for you: "A cobbler - not to be confused with a crisp or crumble - is a deep-dish fruit dessert with a sweetened fruit filling that is topped off with a biscuit-like dough. The dough may cover the entire dish or be dropped by the spoonful, earning it the name "cobbler" for its resemblance to a cobblestone street. It gives you the same fruit-and-pastry combination as pie, but without all the effort." This is the kind that I have made and am familiar with - although some people have said it can be topped with a pie crust pastry - to me that's not cobbler. The one you tried looked amazing! The cookies that are in the banana pudding are called Nilla Wafers and you can buy them at any grocery store. Yes the cookies will get softer the longer the banana pudding sits. Take care. Looking forward to the next video!
We appreciate you sharing your cobbler knowledge with us! It was delicious and we are looking forward to trying more versions in the future! Thanks for watching.
That’s an awesome definition!!! Much different from crisps & crumbles. ❤❤❤
Thank you for putting up the distinction because there's a lot of cobbler out there and not all of it is good that's for sure. LOL!
Cobbler bears no resemblance to sponge cake. Cobbler needs to have a lovely light crispy crust. Soggy crust is gross and a lot of people settle for that. Also, the beauty part of cobbler is that there are different flavors beyond peach. I'm not a fan of peach cobbler although I absolutely appreciate an excellent one when I stumble across it. I absolutely adore blackberry cobbler. Or even a good cherry cobbler. My personal preference is not to have ice cream on it.
Where I come from, calling that cobbler would get you laughed at! My great-grandmother always cooked her cobblers in a cast iron Dutch oven, with a pie crust top and bottom. She would use a variety of fruits (but not mixed!), like apples, cherry, peach, blackberry, plum...all of them delicious, with the top crust being light, crispy and flaky. The bottom crust would be sodden with all the fruit juices, but somehow not soggy at all! One of my favorite cobblers is a nice strawberry-rhubarb! Highly recommend finding one of those! The rhubarb gives just enough tartness to offset the almost too sweet taste of the strawberries.
So, being from the south, Gloria's explanation is spot on. BlackBerry cobbler and strawberry rhubarb are other great ones to try.
Pecan pies vary quite a bit too. Sometimes they are super rich, can only take a few bites, sometimes runny with syrup, sometimes more solid and chewy. But I find they are always good! Has to be my favorite hands down.
Thank you for sharing your love for pecan pies! We really enjoyed it and can't wait to try more versions!
Have you tried coconut pecan pie? It's made the same as pecan pie. Just add coconut.
Andrew unlocked his American spirit. He knows what he likes. And then, in true American fashion, turned it up to 11.
Thank you for noticing Andrew's enthusiasm , He loves sweet foods! so this was his ballpark.
Thanks for enjoying our local foods!!
GooGoo is prononced like the sound a baby makes. I think it's named for goobers, which is a Southern name for peanuts.
Wow! Thanks for the insight on Goobers! They were very tasty! but It's a tough one to decide how to pronounce it.
Honestly probably a combination of Goo(ey) Goo(ber) clusters since they use caramel as a binder.
Named for a common "baby talk" phrase from long ago.
GooGoo was first introduced at the the Grand Ole Opry house in Nashville. G rand O le O pry GOO...little history for y'all.
With the peach cobbler, it`s a crispy crust, but down inside, because of the peach juices and caramelization, the dough sometimes gets the consistency of dumplings.
That makes sense! The ice cream probably helped soften it up as well! Thanks for watching
As an American I'm don't want to bash any other region's cuisine. I will say where ever you may rome. You will always and forever crave the foods from the South more than all others.
I am from New Orleans and I have never thought of it as a cobbler type of place. Cobbler feels more like what is found in the rest of the south.
Thanks for sharing ! The Tennessee Cobbler company was delicious. It's interesting how different regions have their own food identities.
Peach cobbler is popular anywhere a good peach can be grown. Missouri farm boys will do any amount of "volunteer" work if warm peach cobbler is the bribe. It's always been my favorite with a splash of heavy cream.
When I’ve made cobbler, you melt butter in the bottom of a pan while you make the batter, which is like a sweet pancake batter. You pour that over the butter then top it with whatever fruit. Bake. The batter expands around the fruit. Super easy but so good!
That sounds delicious! Thanks for sharing the cobbler-making process!
Yup! This is the traditional (original) way cobbler was made and is how we prepare ours. Butter, flour, sugar, buttermilk, seasoned peaches with cinnamon and sugar. ❤
Easy recipe for cobbler, if you don’t want to make a dough for the crust of a traditional cobbler.
Cup of butter, cup of flour, cup of sugar, cup of milk. Butter in the bottom of your casserole dish, melt in a 350 degree over. Mix the milk, flour, and sugar, then pour in the hot dish over the melted butter. Do not mix! Carefully drop any cooked or canned fruit on top, without juice. Back into the oven, cook until bubbly and brown. Approx 30-45 min.
There are variations of cobbler. I've had some with a crumble topping others that have a pastry top and some with a cake topping. My favorite is the ones with a crumble topping.
This one from Tennessee Cobbler company was Amazing! We can't wait to try more styles of Peach Cobbler. Thank you for watching
@@thebritstryAuthentic Cobblers only have a pastry crust (sugar is sprinkled on top of all cobblers) with whatever fruit you are using (Peach is my favorite of course) coming through the crust. BTW I live in Georgia ( The Peach 🍑 State)) where all those peaches 🍑 you were eating probably came from.
@@thebritstry Its biscuit dough with sugar
@@raise1000 Exactly. if it is a pastry crust it is a pie, even if it is just on the top. To be accurate the oldest version of pie did just have the crust as a topper, so it isn't even "if it's just on the top". Enclosed pies or pies with only bottom crusts are just different types of pie. It's got to be biscuit dough to be a real cobbler.
@@thebritstry real question is did any of them fix your shoes?
Lol, great react guys, you are getting better and better at trying all these new foods. Also, keep in mind that the food of the south is not the same everywhere, each state may have their own variation of the same dish, and there are several BBQ styles across the south. If you come across a Southern dish you don't like, try it again in a different state and you just might be surprised.
Thank you for the insight! We are hoping to visit as many States as we can in the future. It's fascinating how food can vary so much within the same region.
Recipes often vary family to family.
Ahh, y’all are in my old stomping grounds! Love to see it. I hope everyone’s been incredibly hospitable and you both are having a fabulous time.
Thanks for the comment! It's awesome to hear from someone who knows the area well. We had a Great Time in Nashville!
I always tell people that if you are going to try American food like desserts, bbq, chicken, or even breakfast food, you have to go to local restaurants. Everything that corporate restaurants serve is pre made. As I mentioned before. It's like sweet tea. You can go to every fast food joint and it will always be made different. The local restaurants will make everything better than the corporate restaurants will.
Thanks for the advice!
I agree! Though I will say, McDonalds sweet tea slaps hard 😂
Pecan pie was my dad's favorite dessert. It's filling is made from eggs, butter, corn syrup, and sugar, and baking the nuts in that syrup makes them candied. The salted caramel ice cream suggestion would be brilliant on it.
Thank you for sharing your personal connection to pecan pie. It was delicious dessert that we would to try more of..
Those were Nilla Wafers in the banana pudding. They are cookies, and yes, they soften as they sit in the pudding for a period of time. The best banana pudding is made with either Nilla Wafers or Chessman Cookies. I've made it with both and they both tasted equally good. I personally like to put shaved dark chocolate on the top of my banana pudding.
Thanks for sharing your insights on banana pudding! Shaved dark chocolate sounds like a Pro Move!
Banana pudding is made with Vanilla Wafers. (The Nabisco Company makes them). It's a Southern desert staple) on every Southern table! Yummy!
Banana pudding is our new favorite thing! we have just tried some in Austin, Texas, the video will be uploaded tomorrow.
In early 1950's the school system I was in growing up had Peach Cobbler. It was served once or twice a week when you bought the school lunches. Some friends and I went on a search for the recipe for that cobbler. We must have tried a dozen different recipes and still didn't find the cobbler we both remembered from our childhood. We ate some good cobbler but never found 'the one". I see you had a drink finally. Good for you
Thats a great story! It's amazing how certain foods can bring back childhood memories! shame you couldn't work out 'the one' you wanted but we guess it was fun trying! Thanks for watching!
I love this story! My fav peach cobbler is still our high school’s cobbler - made from scratch in the 80s. Anyone at my table who didn’t want their peach cobbler passed it to me - I think four was my record. I was skinny, too!
Go to Maine and try the clam chowder and the lobster rolls.
Thanks for the idea! We would love to try the clam chowder and lobster rolls, we will have to try and organize a trip
Yes, and then come back to the south and eat real food.
Fruit cobbler is much like a pie, but the crust is from a batter instead of a dough. The batter/crust is put down, then the fruit filling on top. As it bakes the crust rises up through the fruit, mixing in tasty ways. Vanilla ice cream goes great with a cobbler.
A scoop of ice cream also goes great on pecan pie.
Yes, that would have been delicious! next time we will try that.
We Totally agree! Fruit cobbler with vanilla ice cream is the ultimate comfort food.
You guys are adorable and the food looks so good! It's all delicious, but pecan pie holds a special place in my heart.
Thank you so much for your kind words! The desserts were amazing! We're glad you enjoyed the video. Which would be your choice?
Boy you guys got some of my favorite treats/deserts today.
Pecan pie and the goo goo clusters.
The goo goo clusters are so addictive. Did not know that they had a store where you can make your own creations. There is a candy called Turtles, most grocery stores probably carry it. It's a bit similar to the goo goo cluster. It's pecans and caramel dipped in chocolate. So both of you could enjoy it.
Thanks for watching! Andrew loved the goo goo clusters and we both loved the 'build your own' version. The store is in Nashville and it's fun to watch them make it. We will definitely try the find the Turtles bars for Andrew.
Ohhh this list is helpful, I’m driving through Nashville next week now I know where to stop. 😂 Thanks guys. ❤
Have fun! Try and get an extra day there! Nashville has so much to offer! Let us know what you get to try while you are there.
Lots of ways to make biscuits. I prefer the soft ones without layers. Cobbler, sonker, grunt, slump and crisp (variations on a theme). Sweetened fruit with some kind of topping. Infinitely variable. All inexpensive, family friendly desserts. We used to pick blackberries by the side of the road for cobbler (made the way my mother likes it with a thin short crust pastry lid with sugar sprinkled on top) until the county decided to mow down the berry bushes. You can use any fruit, fresh, frozen or canned.
So many delicious options for making biscuits! It's great to have a variety of desserts that are family-friendly and easy on the wallet. Thanks for watching.
I was wondering if you guys came to my home state an didn't try any of our deserts cause we just about as proud of them as we are a lot of things. Glad to see you got a proper donut biscuit peach cobbler some of our snacks an my favorite banana pudding
It was an amazing experience in your home state! We really enjoyed Nashville and wished we had more time to visit more places. We will be back in the future. Thanks for sharing
I love GooGoo clusters!! Haven’t had one in years, used to live in Tennessee, one of my faves!
The 'build your own' system was really fun! and tasted Amazing, but pricey. Andrew loved the original version. Andrew keeps wanting to order some online.
Growing up about 90 miles south of Nashville. We NEVER ate canned biscuits for breakfast or meals. The ONLY time we ever got them was to make donuts.
And the round donut balls are called donut holes. The center of the donut after it’s cut from the center. Zero waste 100% glorious goodness. And very easy to make. Also very easily filled with jams like strawberry or raspberry or melted chocolate or custard.
Thanks for sharing this delightful insight into your culinary traditions. We might have to try making donut holes soon!
Did you live in Alabama?

Thanks for the suggestion! Nicola is a good baker but she has never tried to make peach cobbler, I will have to push her to try and make it!
You all are absolutely joyful to watch. Come to Utah when you have a chance and we will show you around.
If you’re ever back in the south, there are a few more cobblers I’d suggest trying: blackberry, strawberry, and sweet potato. There are also some pies you might want to add to your list as well: chocolate chess, buttermilk, coconut custard, and coconut cream.
Those goo goo candies looked amazing. I’m so jealous! 😂😂
Thank you for the delicious recommendations! I'll have to plan another trip down south to try those out.
Fried biscuits and apple butter...can't beat it
Wow, That sounds delicious. Where do you recommend finding that?
It's easy to make! Regular grands biscuits...quarter them, fry them golden and dip em in your apple butter...but, it's kind of a Midwest thing...

@@thebritstry Good question… I know that many Bbq restaurants in Texas have it on the menu but most times I’ve made it or a friend/family member has brought it to a pot luck.
I like peach and especially blackberry cobbler. always better warm with some ice cream. Other variations of pecan pie with bourbon or chocolate are also good
Oh my! Chocolate Pecan Pie sounds Amazing!
You know what else is great on warm cobbler? Butter.

Peach cobbler recipes can vary from family to family, just like all recipes can. In our home, we make a very solid biscuit type of dough that get spooned onto the peaches and then is baked. When we want a quicker cobbler, I will open a can of Pillsbury Biscuits, cut those into 4th's roll them in cinnamon and sugar and then place those atop my cobbler to bake. I know some families make a cake type of batter that they pour over their cobbler and then bake, so hard to know which recipe you are eating. One thing is peach cobbler is super easy and super yummy and is always served hot with vanilla ice cream.
Thank you for sharing your family's peach cobbler recipe! It sounds delicious and I love how versatile it can be. We will have to try making that at home.
"You're dripping EVERYWHERE!!" 🤣 In reality as we know it, melted ice cream drips. It's okay, though, we have the technology to clean it up.
Lol!😂 Didn't want to waste a drop!!!
Cobbler...basically fruit/sugar and pastry, has as many variations as there are Grannies South of the Mason-Dixon Line! As kids, my mom used fresh ingredients and it was hard to beat. By the time us kiddos were teenagers (in the 1960's+) she began using refrigerator biscuits (canned biscuits) and canned or frozen peaches. We still ate it up! Apples and Pears were the 2nd and 3rd choice fruits for cobbler in our Texas Panhandle home. Slap a scoop of homemade vanilla ice cream on top and all became silent. Hahaha Cheers N&A.
Thank you for sharing your wonderful cobbler memories! We can't wait to try more versions in the future!

it makes me feel proud that you guys liek our southern foods! Those layers in the biscuit are how you know its a dang good biscuit. Bakers try years to get them layers!

Thanks for watching and your kind words! The Banana pudding was delicious we loved it!
My mom always made all of her cobblers (Peach, Blackberry, etc) by putting canned Pillsbury flaky layer biscuits on top of the fruit/sugar/butter/etc. All cobblers are best served warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top!

Thanks for sharing! We can't wait to try it in the future.
I worked at a barbecue restaurant one summer and their fried biscuits were very popular. It was just Pillsbury biscuits from the can but the dough was deep fried and people would eat them with honey or barbecue sauce (or just make little fluffy bbq sandwiches).
OMG! that sounds delicious! Thanks for sharing, We really need to give that a try in the future
How do you guys stay so slim and good looking while eating all of these (yummy but, calorie dense) foods. I would have to go the gym everyday to stay as slim as you lovely people. It looks as though you are spreading the desserts over multiple days. Which is a must! We just love to watch what you are getting into from here in Seattle. The food up here is NOTHING like what you will experience in the south. We are really enjoying watching your eating tour of America. Nearly very states seems to have a culinary identity of its own or something that is unique to it. In Washington you will enjoy the seafood, crab, salmon and the fresh Rainier cherries (the yellow/ orange colored ones) that are grown here. You can literally live off of the land here with the wild berries, apples, plums etc and the abundant fishing and crabbing that this area is known for.
Thanks you for your kind words and for watching! We are having fun visiting new places and trying new things, We would definitely like to visit Seattle and Washington in the future, so thank you for the recommendations!
People who enjoy their food and aren’t afraid to eat it!! Love your chemistry together 💖 When Nicola really, really likes what she’s eating, there’s a tendency to pull the tasty food closer to her and away from Andrew😂
Lol! I was hoping nobody would notice😂
My favorite cobblers were the ones my grandmother used to bake. She used a biscuit type dough and apples from a tree in her backyard. My mom made the best pecan pie. Such wonderful memories. I grew up just 60 miles north of Nashville in southern Kentucky. I had a lot of very good southern cooking growing up. You can see why some of us might struggle with our weight.😆
That sounds like a beautiful memory filled with delicious treats! Food has a special way of connecting us to our past. Thanks for watching
I hope your food tour takes you to Chicago... So, much tasty food up there, too...

Before my wife passed away, southern desserts were insisted upon, pecans & peaches, missed them being shared😅
Thank you for sharing that personal story with us. I hope the memories bring you some comfort.
You tried some of my favorite desserts. I love peach cobbler, my mom’s sugary, lattice crust was amazing! Banana pudding is a southern staple and the crispy Nilla wafer cookies are the best part. But my ultimate favorite dessert is the PECAN PIE. It’s so delicious! I hope you guys enjoyed my city (Nashville). ❤ Looking forward to your next video.
Your kind words mean a lot to us. We had a Great Time in Nashville it was a fun city! It is hard to choose between Pecan pie, peach cobbler and Banana pudding! Can we have one of each???
The cookie part in banana pudding is vanilla wafers , they come in a box in the cookie section any grocery store.
Banana pudding is our new favorite dessert! Thanks for the information!
If you grow up in the USA, you probably have a soft spot in your heart for biscuits and also for cornbread, two things that I don't think the rest of the world really eats. They are comfort foods for most of us. Cobbler can be made in a few ways some comes with a biscuit top, some with a pie crust top and some are more like a cake with the fruit in the cake. I generally make the latter because it is simple to make always delicious. Banana Pudding has a cookie called Vanilla Wafers in it. They are a very crispy and somewhat dry cookie, so yes they are supposed to be that crispy. If the pudding sits for a while the wafers soften and absorb some of the liquid from the pudding. Warm Pecan Pie with vanilla ice cream is a thing, but you generally have to ask for it.
Thank you for sharing! we are certainly growing that soft spot for biscuits!
I've never had Peach Cobbler that didn't have a crumble on top, I'm sure that the one yall had was still delicious though!
In the banana pudding those are a classic cookie just called vanilla wafers at store. They do get softer the longer it sits in the banana cream but I do prefer it softer myself.
We appreciate your insight! The desserts were all very good! That peach cobbler was delicious
Fridge, pecan pie, strawberry ice cream absolutely wonderful amazing experience
That sounds great! we wouldn't have thought about Strawberry Ice cream. Thanks for watching
Try Chess pie!!! Some people call it vinegar pie, but its 10 million calories trying to get into your body!!! Made with eggs, sugar, butter, a little vinegar (which you can't taste) and a little corn meal and flour. It is so good!

Banana pudding might be the one exception where we actually call those "vanilla wafers", and not cookies in the USA. And yes, many prefer the semi hard fresher wafer, although others may like the wafer mushy after sitting. I prefer the formers fresher wafer.
Thanks for the info! we have just tried some more Banana Pudding at Terry Blacks BBQ In Austin, The video will be uploaded this afternoon.
glad you liked our desserts, but there are so many more :)
Which ones have we missed? We would love to try more in the future, let us know if you can recommend any?
When I did homecare I had a 100 yr old patient that lived off of a cobbler a day. So I learned an easy to make cobbler. 1 cup of sugar one cup of flour one cup of milk. Spice your fruit with butter, cinnamon ,brown sugar, a pinch of salt just cook it till it melts together then pour it in a baking dish then pour the batter over top bake at 350 for 45 min and it's yummy and easy. I made him one every morning haha
That's such a heartwarming story! and your recipe. Thank you for sharing
Find a reservation and go there to try fry bread. You can have it by itself or an Indian Taco or an Indian hot dog. There are some who may have buffalo burgers. If you can catch a Pow Wow, you can also enjoy the dancers, the Native American culture, food, and art.
That sounds like a delicious plan! We would love to try and do this in the future.
Peach Cobbler on my opinion is made best in a cast iron skillet. When it comes from the oven top with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, the cold with the warmth of the cobbler. The dough, is flour, butter & sugar. You can use canned peaches of course, but fresh peaches are wonderful. For a short cut you can use store bought biscuits. Layer on top of the fruit mixture and bake. Just the flour, sugar and butter will make a sweet dough, so easy to make.
That sounds delicious! Peach cobbler with vanilla ice cream is always a winning combination. we have just tried some in Austin, Texas, the video will be uploaded tomorrow.
Goo Goo was named for the Grand Ole Opry. Glad you found some things to enjoy in Nashville!
We didn't know that. Thanks for the info! Those desserts were delicious.
... then explain how Goo Goo Clusters existed many years before the Grand Old Opry did! 😆
@Marcel_Audubon check the website
There are different types of peach cobbler. You can have a biscuit topping, a cake topping, or even a pie crust top. The traditional is the biscuit topping, but people do what they want and still call it cobbler. We also have crumble, that's usually a mixture of flour, oats and spices mixed with butter on top of the fruit.
The cookies in the banana pudding are supposed to be soft. You're supposed to chill it for several hours or overnight before serving.
Thanks for sharing this advice! Crumble on top sounds delicious!
Yes the Pecan Pie warm with Vanilla Ice Cream on it or Whipped Cream is even better. You just tried my favorite desserts and made me so hungry. 😂
Your comment made me hungry too! Thanks for watching and sharing your favorite desserts with us.
Lol!

Cobbler is fruit in a thickened syrup, with a crust made from either a short crust, a drop biscuit dough, or a thick cake batter. "Dump Cake" is much the same except the crust is made from dry cake mix with butter either Crumbled in or melted butter drizzled on top
Appreciate the detailed breakdown of cobbler and dump cake. Now I'm craving both!
The middle soft bit is corn syrup eggs brown sugar butter salt vanilla and some put cinnamon in others don’t and you mix these ingredients together put the pecans in a frozen pie crust pour over the mixture and bake. It is the best pie ever but so simple to make. I use regular corn syrup but some use the dark corn syrup so the flavor does change based on the corn syrup you use. It also changes based on dark brown sugar vs light brown sugar. Just depends if you like more molasses flavor or not. ❤❤❤❤
Thanks for sharing the recipe details, it sounds delicious! We will hopefully try an make this in the future.
Yes, the cookies on the banana pudding are originally a bit crispy. You can buy them separately in the grocery store. They’re vanilla wafers. ‘Nilla Wafers.
Thanks for the info! We might have to visit the grocery store to grab some.
Banana pudding is a very simple treat made by layering pudding, sliced bananas, and cookies in a trifle-like fashion. Since it’s easy to make and scales well, it was and still is a common dessert item in schools, buffets, and the military. From what I understand, American pudding is exactly British instant custard, milk thickened with cornstarch. Banana pudding traditionally uses vanilla pudding. The cookies we use are almost unanimously Nabisco Nilla Wafers. Andrew correctly identified that the cookies get softer when they absorb the pudding. I personally prefer my banana pudding fully saturated.
Thanks for watching, we appreciate your detailed insight into the world of banana pudding. We loved it!
I love you guys. Your video reactions are so real. Absolutely love Nicola's laugh. I know, I've said it before but, it's true. You guys are officially my favorites now. Looking forward to more. Thanks so much.
Thank you so much for your kind words! This comment has made our day! 😃
Cobbler is basically home made pie crust and fruit filling of your choice. Blackberry is my fave. Much love from far western KY 💙
Speaking of waistlines ... I'm holding you two personally responsible for my excess circumference after watching all these taste test videos! :D ... Will be in Nashville in June and will check out the Goo Goo store. Thank you!
Thanks for watching and hope you have a wonderful trip to Nashville! Enjoy the Goo Goo store experience!
You can make banana pudding. It is a simple recipe. 1 vanilla wafers line the edges of your baking bowl (think a trifle blown that can handle oven heat) separate eggs. With yolks make vanilla custard, when they are done 1/2 into the bowl cut up thin slices of banana on top. Then more custard beat the egg whites into stiff peaks with little sugar and cream of tartar. Swirl on top and then bake till tips turn brown. Enjoy after cooling on countertop. (Refrigerate leftovers…..)
Thanks for sharing this detailed recipe! Sounds delicious! We will have to give to give it a try in the future.
Peach cobbler is like a deep dish pie with a healthy amount of filling
Peach cobbler is like a slice of comfort in a pan! It was delicious. Thanks for watching
There are actually different kinds of cobbler depending on the region or cook. The basic idea is the same, but some people cook dough like noodles or small balls in the fruit and juice as it’s cooking, some bake biscuits on top, some make a pie crust and mash it into the fruit, and some add a cake mixture into the cooking fruit (without mixing it).
Thanks for the information! it's interesting how variations of the same dishes changes based on regions.
Pecan pie-warmed, with vanilla ice cream; it be a killer, but a lovely way to go. You kids are adorable. Best
Thank you for your kind words! We would love to try Pecan pie and vanilla ice cream Next time!
Andrew, I noticed that your British accent is not quite as pronounced as Nicola's. I love watching your channel because it is pure reaction. My granddaughter is performing in Nashville with her Highschool band (CMHS, Bethalto Illinois) tonight.
Thanks for watching! Good luck to you granddaughter this evening! Yes, we are both from Manchester but Andrew is from one side and I am from the other (10 miles apart), it's amazing how our accents are so different despite being from the same town.
Your gremlin seems to be upset that you're not feeding it haha. I swear I heard him say he wants some of your Goo Goo's.
Lol! We need to feed the gremlin more. Thanks for watching
The pecan pie filling is eggs, corn syrup (light or dark), brown sugar and vanilla. My absolute favorite!
Thanks for watching. Pecan Pie was delicious! To be honest they were all delicious though😂
Yummy 😃😃😃😃
The big square biscuit is my favorite type of biscuit. I recently made that type to go with sausage gravy. SO tasty....but it also paired well with blueberry preserves and clotted cream, a British item i first discovered on my trip to the UK a few years ago. It can be found at Whole Foods.
I also like blueberry cobbler.
Looking forward to more food tastings.
Cheers!
Thanks for the suggestions! we will have to check out Wholefoods for the big square biscuits.
I’m a 5th gen Texan and pecan pie is my favorite. With vanilla ice cream it can’t be beat. I am bias because I grew up with 100 foot pecan trees in my back yard. I remember picking up the pecans and putting them in 50 gallon trash bags so my parents could sell them to co-workers
We are so jealous! It's great you have great memories of Pecan Pie! we really enjoyed Pecan pie.
Biscuit Love is great. My wife and I were down there a few years ago and made it a point to go there. It was fabulous.
So good! We really enjoyed it too!
You have got to get to Savanah, Georgia. I highly recommed following in the footsteps of Jolly's videoa for great places to go there. Sweet Potatoes for best Banana Pudding, Mrs. Wilkes for southern cooking, Maple Street Biscuits. etc.
Thanks for the tips! We will hopefully visit Georgia soon.
Nicole, you go girl, there ain’t no shame in your game!!!😂😂😂
Your words mean a lot, thank you for the encouragement!
