      @@LearnFrenchwithLexie French is gonna be my 6th language (because I'm moving to France). So every time you say that English does not have this sound, I do "the smirk". At least one of those does so I just need to remember which letters make it 😆

      The new job is in Paris so that's where I'm going :) German, English, Serbian, Russian and I dabble a bit in Portuguese. And, well, "engineering" is a language of its own.. or so other departments say @@LearnFrenchwithLexie 😆

      Are you excited about moving to Paris? I'm from Paris, I love the city but not the weather... That's a lot of languages. I speak French and English fluently. I use to speak Portuguese fluently but not anymore as I haven't used it for a while... Next year, I'm planning to improve my Spanish and my Portuguese to speak 4 languages then I'll be able to learn another one 😊@@codingdragon

    I'm not super sure about b vs p, especially 'p'. To be very specific, is there a burst of air when I pronounce 'p'? I used do so but French native speakers would correct me to a more conservative tone, closer to 'b' in English, removing the burst of air I tend to pronounce, and 'b' in French is much heavier than 'b' in English.
    What say you about the consonant 'p'? Merci beaucoup.

    • @LearnFrenchwithLexie
      @LearnFrenchwithLexie  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      For [b] and [p], my lips are closed, then I open them all at once, expelling the air. The difference between [p] and [b] , for [b] the vocal cords vibrate, while for [p] they don’t. I think that [b] and [p] are very similar to the way you pronounce them in English. The difference is that you aspirate P (and also T and K) when it's at the beginning of a word, meaning that you add a forceful expulsion of air. The French don't, whether P (or B) is at the beginning of word or inside a word, it's pronounced the same in French.

    Are there actually that many accents of French?

    • @LearnFrenchwithLexie
      @LearnFrenchwithLexie  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Same as English, or any other language! First, French is spoken in more than one country (France, Canada, Belgium, Switzerland...), and then there is different accents depending which region in France ;)

      @@LearnFrenchwithLexie I'm living in the Sud-Ouest of France and their pronounciation is different. In particular their nasal is different. For example their -ain (in demain) is closer to English.

    • @LearnFrenchwithLexie
      @LearnFrenchwithLexie  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      In the Sud-Ouest, there are four nasal vowels, while in almost all other regions of France, we only use three nasal vowels. For example, in Paris, the nasal vowels in "un" (one) and "pain" (bread) are pronounced the same ([ɛ̃]), but in the sud-ouest there are different ([œ̃] vs [ɛ̃]). I also agree with what you're saying, like their nasals are closer to English as it sounds a bit like NG in the English word "ring". Also, in the Sud-Ouest, they tend to pronounce more syllables. For example, in Paris, we don't pronounce the final E of words whereas in the sud-ouest, they often do. Also, if there is a E inside a word between two consonants, we often don't prononce it, for example "samedi" (Saturday) would be pronounced [sam.di] in Paris, whereas it's often pronounced [sa.mə.di] in the Sud-Ouest. Would you be interested in a video on this subject? @@zoedesvl4131

      @@LearnFrenchwithLexie thank you for the explanation. and for the last question, yes, why not! the variety of French language in different regions of France is underappreciated in my opinion. In the Anglosphere I think we are often told about the difference of French among France, Belge and Québec for example. But that's not the end of the story. Different regions in France have their different ways to speak, the same thing as other languages.
