    I’ve had a chef for years with no issues. I believe the lock bar on the chef is carbodized. Same as a sabenza. If you wanna sell it I’ll take a second one to mod :)

    I've had mine for at least 2 years now. Mine has developed no lock stick or blade play. For those interested.

    That was a good honest review. I want to love that knife too but if I ran into those issues, I’d feel disappointed.

    Good review. I carved the entire turkey last Thanksgiving with this knife! I love the blade on it for kitchen duty but not EDC. I love the thinness and the finish. The spydie hole is fine for me to thumb flick. I hate the fact that it does not have a steel lockbar cap (as you point out) as the Swayback does. I agree with you on that. It is the major limitation of this knife.

    Had mine for 7ish years. I rotate it with other blades but it gets carried often. Love mine, lock stick hasn't been an issue with my unit

    I bought one and didn't love it at first and it had initial lock stick. But after several hundred openings and closings the lock stick is all but gone and I have grown to like the thin feel of it.

    For me, the knife handles are too thin. And also it does not inspire confidence in opening and closing it. I've had it for about a year and maybe used it twice. It's not terrible but not good. But fanboys praise these things and I don't understand why. The opening hole is one of those annoying things like you mentioned also.
    As for water knife... I'd avoid an expensive heavy Titanium knife. Stick with the other salt series. So much better for thst type of situation. This would surely fall to the bottom of the lake/river.

    a personal preference type review, in theory the lock stick would lessen with more use in my opinion because its being worked and the surfaces being smoothed

    I have no issues whatsoever thumb flicking or Spydie flicking this knife. Graphite on the blade tang usually works for stick

    • @tacticalcenter8658
      @tacticalcenter8658 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Kapara would be better as a lockback or liner lock. I have both the original and cqi versions. The compression lock on it is its downfall.

    • @shadeshiest22
      @shadeshiest22 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@tacticalcenter8658 why is it the downfall?? I love and prefer compression locks on those knives...

      @@tacticalcenter8658 funny.. I just got a kapara not to long ago and I always find myself trying to close it thinking it has a liner lock. I blamed it on all the recent liner locks knives I've been carrying a lot lately (gaint mouse ace grand and ace senoma micarta) but when I carry my pm2 I still naturally go to close it with the compression just fine. It does seem to be the shape and feel of kapara that makes me automatically want to close it like it has a liner lock. I wouldn't say the compression lock is its downfall but it doesn't seem as natural to close to me as it would be with a liner lock.

      @@tacticalcenter8658 I've been seeing reviews of an aftermarket, elevated lock release button for the Kapara that makes it a lot easier to release the lock. Seems to work well.

    So you did an "overview" on a knife that you've never used. What a waste of time.

    • @KnifeThoughts
      @KnifeThoughts  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I tell you just that in the first minute... so whose fault is it that you watched? Lol

    • @bobroberts902
      @bobroberts902 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@KnifeThoughts No shit, that's how I knew you didn't use the knife before doing the "overview", LOL. I never placed blame for the time that I wasted. I was just saying, how can a person offer an "overview" of an item that the person hasn't even used. All you did was ramble on about how the Spydiechef isn't going to work for you. You failed to mention the thin blade stock, how slicey it is, how well it works for it's intended purpose. You offered your opinion, not an "overview". You can see from the stock photos that the hole is going to be difficult to access, and you complained about the SwayBack, so you already knew the knife wasn't easy to open with fat stubby fingers. Why did you buy it, to sit behind a camera and fidget with it? It's a knife, not a fidget toy. It opens just fine.

    Funny, I carry nothing but Ti frame locks, and I won't own one that has that ridicules frame lock insert on the end of the lock bar. Pointless, useless and a total gimmick in my opinion. Just more parts to rust out. Lock stick, equals you have weak hands. I even own several frame locks that STR made me for me that don't have a relief cut out at all on the lock bar side of the frame. They're called HeMan frame locks. Relief cuts and inserts are again, useless. Those are gimmicks for people who want everything in life super easy, also for people who flick open frame locks are look at knifes as fidget toys are worry stones and sit there flicking them open over and over and over. I buy knives to carry and use as tools to cut stuff, so I won't stuff that works, not toys with gimmicks so it easy to flick.
    In closing same goes for folding knives with bearings in them, give me one good season hunting/fishing in the coastal marsh and you can throw those toys in the trash. Ridicules, but hey guys with TH-cam channels who enjoying flicking knives open 900 times a day, can say oh its buttery smooth and so easy to open and close.

    I like the Spydiechef, but had to have a detent ramp added. I tend to carry it when I go out to eat or when it is raining and I want a slicey blade. Great knife, but not fidgety. I prefer fidgety or highly tactile knives.

    So this video was uploaded in 2021....wonder if they fixed the problem as of early 2023...dding a lock bar...Odd Spyderco would let this issue be in their knife and put it into production....just as odd as the fact that they have a recassa/nub on their blades....i'm liking Spyderco less...glad I don't own any of their knives...for now...
