3:09 nailing the fouettés and talking like chilling on a sofa. Are you even from this world? 😍😍😍 I‘m not even able to do fouettés in slippers, but I try to get as many tips as possible to be able to turn like that one day ❤️
You feel like your arch is going to give out and it is much more difficult to stay on point because you don't have that support. If you dance regularly on them you'll notice that your not getting the support you need. Hope that helped
Your toes will physically feel the floor. That and your arches start hurting a bit after using them because the heel of the pointe shoe is lower than your arch
Your videos are incredibly helpful, thanks to you my technique is improving much quicker 🤗 I have a video suggestion: could you possibly do commentaries on some of your soloist roles? I think they would be just as interesting as principal role commentaries
One of my goals is to reach 32 this year! I took notes and found this video really helpful! I really like the point of being confident and adding one a day! Thank you, Kathryn!
We've been working on fouettes a lot in my class lately and I needed this so much!!! Everyone in my class has the basic motion down but we all have issues once we try to do more than ten and this really gives me the edge I needed! Thank you so much!! I think this will really really help.
this isn't related to the video, but you inspired me to audition for summer intensives for the first time! i've struggled with confidence issues and anxiety for a few years now, but watching your videos has pushed to face my fears and seriously pursue ballet. i auditioned for my second intensive today and it went really well! thank you so much for all your help!
abby: Yes, in 3 easy steps: Step 1 - Master the step facing the barre, meaning that you're executing the step well with only a light hold on the barre (no pressing down or tight grabbing). Step 2 - Practice this step for a few days or weeks at the barre with both your hands about one inch above the barre - not actually touching it, but you will feel secure knowing you can grab it any time. Once you're no longer dipping down to touch the barre, go to Step 3 - Do the step still at the barre but with arms in 1st then in 2nd, still facing the barre such that your hands are still in the general vicinity of the barre. Once you're happy with Step 3 go try it in the centre and you'll be amazed!
Hi Katie! I can't wait to show my daughter! She went en pointe in the middle of July and has been struggling with Fouttes and Italian Fouttes en pointe ever since. A big part of it is she doesn't feel in control when she does them. It feels faster and it scares her. She has gotten so many helpful hints and tricks from you. We love your channel. Thank you so much for all of your help.
Kathryn, your videos are a game-changer for me! I've been doing your beginner pointe class and I feel as if my feet are already getting stronger! I also love how honest you are in your Q&A's and your #OnceUponAPointe videos.
I thought Id write a post and to say -Thank you for the videos. Im not a dancer by any stretch of the imagination but I have incorporated some of the stretching and work outs from your videos and I also try to do some of the "dance moves" -Sorry dont know what they are actually called, just to get a better balance and get a better "feel" of my body movement. I ride a motorcycle and in my mind this has helped allot with how I move and "feel" my body while I ride. So, doing a little "ballet" seems to make me a better motorcycle rider! Thank you again! I really like your videos and you look absolutely beautiful when you are dancing... well you also look beautiful when not dancing.. -Take care and keep on dancing!
hi :) i’m glad to see that ballet is helping with other things. just letting you know, you can call them dance moves but when it’s a series it’s called choreography. honestly, half of the dancers don’t even know what the individual ones are (me) i just say the name of the step(wait you can just call them steps) but again, i’m happy to hear that ballet is helping you. have a nice dayyy
Oh how I could have used this a couple of months ago! But it's never too late to learn. You're beautiful and you're advice is actually helpful. Love you!!!
I don’t dance anymore but I loved watching this! In fact, I recently found an old notebook full of corrections from class that I used to write down about maybe 10 yrs ago when I was a baby ballerina and one of the bigger ones was “always go to second in fouettes”!
Hi i tried out from SAB and got a rejection letter telling me to try again next year however people i know got different rejection letters i was wondering if you could talk about that in a podcast or a video?
This video is the one that helped me the most with my fouettes, thank you Kathryn ! I was rolling through my feet and not jumping, that was exhausting and made me travel in the studio. Now I tried your way it changes everything. 🧡💛💚💙💜
This was just what I’ve been needing! I’ve been wanting so badly to get fouettes before my spring ballet in April, and these tips are really inspiring me, and I’m finally feeling like I have a chance to get them down. 💗💗
I never could do fettie turns and thats without points .but this is so interesting to listen to ONE DAY ! Iwill surprise myself . I practice your boot camp its brillent !
One of my teachers once told me that when you have to do a specific amount of fouettés that you should always do more..... so with Kitri or Black Swan the 32, you should learn 48 so 32 will seem a bit easier
Wonderful tutorial. Lots of great information and tips. You are a lifesaver. And you are funny! Your demonstration of what we shouldn't be doing...and I have been there! You had me laughing. That's exacting how (bad) I looked. I'm nailing it now! Thank you, Kathryn. You are the sweetest.
Fix: 1. Attempt a "travelling fouette" in the opposite direction of travel from which you'd usually end up going. Once you've mastered that, you will be able to do them perfectly "sur place"
I am a young dancer from Charlotte and I am going to The Joffery Summer intensive in NYC. I would love it if you could pot a video about the whole process of packing and preparing for a summer intensive. Maybe a more recent one?????
¡This was a such good video! My ballet New Years resolution is to be able to do 16 fouettes on pointe by the end of year and this video made me excited to achieve it!!
I'd love it if you could do a video on cabrioles; I especially struggle with getting my bottom leg out from under me when going to the back. Lovely video, as always!
Hi Katie, Thanks for another awesome video! I wondered if you could give any tips or pointers for doing a saut de Basque. I have to do them in my upcoming recital and I would love any advice you could give. Thanks so much!
Something that helps me and that my teacher always tells me is to do a full revolution so that you’re body and leg are to the front when you roll down with every turn. I tend to roll down early (kind of like a pirouette) so then i have to swing my leg around further which then throws me off my balance. Just thought I’d add it in 💘
Thank you so much for this video! I'm about to play Maria in West Side Suite and my teacher wants me to get my Fouettés en pointe for Maria's solo at the end. Your advice really helped me thank you!! :)
Hi Kathryn. Your videos are inspiring me to take up ballet as an adult. Between new classes, vocabulary, clothes, the cost...I am wondering if you could offer any advice or a plan to get into it. Its overwhelming, but I love it too! Thank you
One thing that has always helped me getting all the way around was instead of thinking about that side arm getting to the wall, think about your shoulder on your standing side facing the front.
Hello Kathryn Morgan! I am a young dancer trying to get en pointe. My teacher said next year I will be ready. She said I need to work on my Pirouettes. Is there any advice you could give me? My other question is 12 years old and 13 too old to be en pointe. You are such a beautiful dancer! Keep making wonderful videos!
Hi Kathryn! I was wondering if you could do a updated video on becoming a character in ballet. I know you did one for nutcracker 4 year ago but would be able to make a new one in general. I was recently cast as Gisele in my schools spring show where we will be doing the ballet. It would be helpful to have some tips on how to become such a mature and complex character.
Thank you so much, this is so helpful❤️ this summer I am going to be going away to Houston ballet and staying in the dorms at only 13, I would love it if you made some more videos on summer intensives! I have already watched all of you previous ones and they are great, I hope you can make more!!🧚🏻♀️🙌🏼
Kathryn, from all the pointe shoes that you had and experienced. Which brand is your favorite and why? Also any recommands of brand of pointe shoes for adult beginners?
Hey Kathryn!! Could you do a video on some exercises and other things to do to treat sore muscles? I’ve been trying to stretch everyday and I’ve warmed up every time but I always wake up with sore muscles, sometimes my legs bug me and I can’t extend my leg as high as I usually can (It’s not a sharp pain, it’s just really sore) Thanks!!
Would you please continue your partnering tips? I’m about to start partnering for the first time with someone who is experienced. He’s also a foot taller than me so if you have tips on major height differences that would be amazing!!! Thanks! Much love ❤️❤️
Can you please do a video for girls starting at a new studio!! I’m starting soon and want to learn how to impress the teacher and make friends! This would really help!!
I love your videos even though I have not danced! Is this the most recent upload? I want to be sure I'll get the future ones. I have the bell engaged and I am a subscriber!
Can you make a video about after class stretching/relaxing the muscles? I tend to have really tight muscles the morning after class, and I dont know what to do? Could you maybe make a video with a small routine, that is easy to remember, and really stretches all the different parts of the body? :)
Do you think you could make a video on strengthening? I have very high arches but because of them I have a hard time building strength. Do you have any tips?
Hi! I’ve struggled with tension while dancing (working “too” hard) which throws my turns particularly off. How do I keep working hard with out overdoing it and causing my dancing to be almost robotic?
Last year I had an accident. I hurt my knees and I had to stop for several months. Rehabilitation was hard. Now I am so scared to do a pirouete on flat. Imagine how terrified I get on point. I don'stretch my knees. I don't think I am ever going to be able to get on point or to do a pirouete ever again.
I have struggled with injuries for years. I would say take it slow and build up super slow. Say one day you only do one then wait a day or two and see it that one hurt. Nope? Then try 2. Knee still good? Try 3. (I do not mean consecutively I mean individually until you feel your knee can handle it and if it cannot then don’t worry at least you tried.) also don’t forget to stretch and warm up, continue doing rehab exercises as prehab, and again don’t rush.
Hey! I recently sprained my toe and wasn't able to do pointe for almost 1 1/2 months and i can feel how much weaker i am. So i was wondering if you had any tips for strengthening my feet back up
Would you be able to do a video on how to do/improve cabrioles? I struggle with bringing my bottom leg up to meet my top one and I look like a fish. I really need your help. I'm the only one in my class that can't do it and it really bothers me. Thank you if you read this!
One of the main problems I have with my fouette turns is that I hike my knee up too high when going to second so that I can't get my foot into a proper retire position and end up with quite an ugly line. Any advice on this?

You feel like your arch is going to give out and it is much more difficult to stay on point because you don't have that support. If you dance regularly on them you'll notice that your not getting the support you need. Hope that helped

I will work on it! And thank you!
The way she talks while doing the fouettes and finishes off with doubles effortlessly? Ended every career.
Can you please make a video about taking audition photos and writing a dance resume? I love your videos, you’re incredible! 💗💕

How are Italian ones different from the turns she was doing? **Not a dancer, so I don't know these things.
Italian fouettés develope’ to the side, and then cross in front of you and then flip so that you are in an arabesque. 😊😉
@@breeothmer2292 Sounds like they literally go in the opposite direction, like an inside turn instead of an outside turn.
