I agree that inventory management is the worst in TS4. A few times I would be playing a save for a long time and have my inventory fill up, and trying to scroll down would send me back to the top of the inventory. I hope they make it at least a little easier to play with.
Oh yeah and things somehow shuffling around... Then there's the bug where you use an item and the entire stack is disposed. IDK what's up there, but this needs some work and it'd be a big quality of life improvement. People would like collecting more if they could easily separate out those collectibles. Sadly I think collecting things is the main reason to leave the house so it's really important this be improved.
the inventory is indeed atrocious. my scientist lugs around so much stuff(plants, crystals, metals, serums, samples) that i completely lost track. combine that with the fact that it constantly jumps back to the top is so grrr.

I feel like people ask for the wrong stuff. I am of mind we need lots of simple quality of life improvements to help improve enjoyment moreso than content. Just for 1 or 2 patches I'd love to see the community wish for that.. instead of cars, or something like that.

You're not the first person to say this... maybe you all are on to something. Someone else said I sound like Chills back when I was being a bit more dry. I like his videos but didn't see much of a resemblance. Im honestly just glad I got used to my voice on recordings, it's pretty common to be weirded out by it.

There's a lot to the game and it's always changing. I'm sure you know some stuff that I don't, but I try to fire it up and learn and share what I've discovered. I think I like picking things apart more than playing games to some extent. It's cool to see how the internal mechanics work and there's this excitement when you've figured it out.
Spending most of my childhood/adolescent years in the Carl's Sims Guide website, it was a pleasant surprise to see the TH-cam channel. Even though I don't play Sims 4, I instantly subscribed for the memories! Thank you for all of the hard work throughout the years!

yes! sorting, and auto-move to the container of my choice. let me click a sell button and click each stack I want to be sold. I can do this in 30 seconds, vs the forced labor of selling the way things are.
Agree that sorting would be great! Inventories can get so bloated with items... sometimes I scroll past an item I want 2 or 3 times (which can get frustrating )
I want them to add the breeding feature back to aquariums or ponds i can stock with fish, fishing and gardening are my favourite things to do in sims lol
Me too! I'd love to be able to make money breeding fish. For some reason I too gravitate toward the things that are kind of outdoorsy. Probably to escape my horrible box houses I guess.
Oh I agree. Fishing was a mess before. I'm happy to hear you feel they've improved it. I had tried to have a Fisherman and Fisherwoman several times but got so bored with it and frustrated.

The notebook on the cell phone isn't new, at least not as of this patch. It was there a few months ago because I noticed it when they updated gardening. Thanks for the overview though! :)
No the notebook wasn't new to this patch but it has been updated to function a little differently and you now access it from a slightly different place on the sims phone now too.

I've never played sims before, any at all.. but after discovering your channel and numerous great videos you have done on the game.. I'm hooked, ordering my copy of sims 4 very soon. Love how comprehensive your videos are and the narration, my favorite TH-cam sims channel.

For me the ability for sims to give tips to each other is really cool because they sometimes do it on their own even when I’m not playing as either of them plus it tells you about the interaction so you can ask them to give their tips to you (also play as loads of different households which makes this more interesting

Love the video. Helpful or not, I always enjoy them. I'm often amused by your comments. I love what you named the golden fish...Sea-3PO 🤣 I noticed the additions to the notebook when talking about fishing to other sims. At first, I didn't know how they got the new knowledge. It took me a few times, before I caught on. I don't know what the neighbor's skill level is, but my sim usually gets a tip when talking about fishing with him. I knew about being able to put the trap in deeper water, but I didn't know for sure about different fish being available there. See? I did learn something after all. I was entertained and educated....great video!
These new changes to the fishing skill will definitely encourage me to fish again in TS4. The only problem that i had with fishing is that like you said there werent many unlocks for that skill. There also wasnt many options to pick from when you went fishing. Thanks carl.👏👏
Just being able to hold Ctrl and clicking to bypass the sell confirmation would be huge. Or a "tacklebox" container item that would take all fish into it automatically with a "Sell todays catch" would help a lot

I'm usually using a, or several chests so the inventories won't clutter up with all kinds of stuff. All of my older households will eventually have a little room with all kinds of chests. Pretty neat.
Sometimes a moving picture is better even for people that prefer long list of formulas, numbers and walls of text. Finally fished out info I wanted, darn wiki can be blank in the most odd places.
I loved how in sims 3 you could send your sim into the grocery store and sell all your harvstables and fish all in one go. I wish they could manage a system similar in 4
My brain cant understand why island living nor free patch add any fish tanks. like seriously the best one is from dine out and it still only show 4 animated fish even when there are way more.
Thanks I think it's just my voice getting worked out. I wanted a script to keep me in the flow, but to sound natural, and you have to work at that. So I had used my voice a good bit before I started.
Huh -- I didn't realize the traps could go in all sorts of water. That's a cool little feature. And it's nice to see the improvements made to a skill that I basically just had Sims go do if I couldn't think of anything else for them to do. :p (But yes, some improvements on how the inventory is handled would be nice too!)
Yup I am keeping my $40.00 in my pocket and playing the Sims 3 because it still is the most fun, well, Sims 1 with all those game packs is still fun and the music is grand....wait Sims 2 is still a blast as well. Retired Sims 4 !

I definitely agree with the inventory. I've been saying for quite a long time that inventory management in TS4 sucks eggs. The glitch that happens when you're scrolling and it takes you back to the top, fish, for some reason, not being able to be stored in anything except one of the Get To Work displays or aquariums, ect. It'd be nice if we had separated tabs for different categories for stuff that's kept in the personal inventories. OR SOMETHING!! ANYTHING!! PLEASE EA!!! ;___;
Sea-3PO 🤣🤣🤣🤣. I would love to see more out of Sims 4. In Sims 3 you could replay it tons of times and in many different ways. In Sims 4 I find myself almost reluctant to even click on it. I spent good money on a game that bores me. I'm still choosing 3 with its issues over an optimized version because there isnt much to do in it, which is pretty damn sad. EA needs to get it together and really listen, fix what needs to be fixed and start releasing things that have more depth.

Something you should do is have a pause of a couple of seconds at the start of your video before you start talking. I can't put my finger on WHY but it seems to me that videos that have talking straight away don't work as well.
Yeah I kinda agree, give some time to adjust. I'll take that into consideration so I don't startle people. I'm not about fancy intros but really could just extend if a few seconds and solve a problem. Thanks.
@@CarlsSimGuides Just have say the title come up with no sound for a second or two before you talk. I think the reason this works is it gives you a buffer to adjust the volume and screen size without having to try and find the absolute start of the video to restart it once it's set up.
Been waiting for this. I have a wall aquarium that i have been steadily filling up with 1 of each fish and this sounds so beautifully big. Any idea when all the fish and recommendations be up on your site? Would love to bookmark and head out lol
24-48h tops I think. Updating all baits is.. hard, because they are referenced as numbers in the XML and I'm having to cross reference them and use guesswork. Much harder than usual.
since the game originally released i've been wondering why in the world there is no store to sell items too... they could just make it so you click on the cash register at a store, or the merchant, or whatever, select sell items and it shows your inventory.. basically just like when select "order" from a computer or bookshelf.. except now you sell your stuff and can sell one of each or the whole stack. should be easy, if i remember correctly that's how the pawn broker worked in sims 3. plus i find dragging an item to the little "sell" box in my inventory a bit of an immersion breaker. (tho i think it should be kept for people that prefer it that way, instead of going to a store or item to sell)
Inventory management also sucks because you have to do it while the game is paused. If you do it while the clock is running, the inventory keeps jumping to the top over and over and you lose your place. I've even accidentally sold the wrong things because of it. This wasn't a thing when the game was first released. It appeared a year or two ago and it makes me want to pull my hair out.
I like how I get notifications for my characters talking about "____ has identified the guppy!" I've had my Sims identify the guppy a million times every day { I'm being slightly hyperbolic } and not a single one of them has fished or been to an island or anything but an indoor or outdoor pool, or the shower. Are guppies just like, the best thing ever now?
Did they fix the collections bug where you would randomly lose all your collections. I want mounted fish to count for the collection so I can fill in a reset the collection without having raw fish in my inventory that can be accidentally cooked or worse have the fish turn foul.
They have also made a change to conversations, as I have received messages that one Sim has taught another about a fish during a conversation, for example while they are playing chess. The problem is neither of the Sims had the fishing skill, so I do not understand how one could tell the other about fish information, where it can be found and what type of bait for it, when neither has the fishing skill.
You don't talk bait and tackle while hanging with friends? Fun topic especially at parties. But yeah, that's strange. I couldn't get anyone to tell me anything but this concerns me that I'm wrong and they don't need any knowledge at all to share.
i'm here because i was told to fight you about inventory management. but seriously i'm not a fan of this one or sims 3's inventory, its just so hassle filled, wish it had tabs to sort objects into so i can find things like my camera or potions easier, after all if they seperate due to tabs/catagories it'll make going through the menu SEA-venty times better. edit: also another Fins 4 suggestion i'd love is for lone wolf sims to gain a mood boost while fishing on their own and a negative boost while near non-friend sims as this would tie in to the talking while fishing (which i and others have done for real) and also give the lone wolf trait more uniqueness
Inventory issue over here, again. I can't add fish to my tanks/aquariums. At first, I thought it was a certain type of fish only, but I've caught them all. No fish will go in the large tanks anymore. I can open it, but can't drag them in. Sigh
Just really minor bug that happen to me on the Angle for big fish option. So my sims got a perk where you don't need to sleep (from the aspiration point shop), when i pick that option however the energy decreased (normal fishing not decrease the energy meter)
I come to your guides first as I feel they are most complete and you don't have any weird voice anomalies that irritate me. :D Like some TH-camrs tent to squeal about things sometime or the volume constantly changes so I turn it up, then next sentence they are too loud. >.< I may have missed it, but do you know why some fishing signs sparkle? @@CarlsSimGuides Oh okay thanks. The sparkles from the aquatic lure looked a bit different from the colored sparkles I have seen. But I do have both characters in my current game so I can play the mermaid and make her use the lure then have my other sim fish there and see how the signs look. Or if you have time test it and let me know. Either way, you are so welcome for the kudos, you deserve it. And hahaha got a lil spunky in this vid too. I was a tiny bit down on you for the not liking this pack so much, but it's all good.
I think what baffled me is when I tried to use one of the free-roaming canoes to go fishing... Maybe I need to own it? Better get my sim to work, those things ain't cheap.
I too wish they would improve inventory management. You would think it would be so easy just to add tabs to your inventory so you can at least sort it. -sigh-
I appreciate your website and all the details you give. I'm a weird anomaly in the world today; I only have access to metered data so I tend not to watch videos at all unless I REALLY need the info. That being said, I find your videos to be very helpful and sometimes watching someone do something is better than reading about it. Since you asked for feedback, the one thing I would suggest is for you to either pause your audio recording occasionally, or build in a few seconds of showing how to do something without talking, so that you take a breath. By the end of the video, you tend to start dropping your voice and mumbling/hurrying to get to the end. It can be difficult to understand what you're saying at that point. (Again, not being mean, just some feedback for the next video)

Ohhhh that was one of my biggest pet peeves and it seems to have been fixed!!! U can scroll inventory without it snapping back to the top now.

It doesn't jump to the top if you pause the game. That's how I work around it. But it's still, very, very annoying

I was able to get fishing tips from an elder..that was cool for NPC
My sim was mega low level fishing, and I found an NPC who was slightly higher then her and got fishing tips that way.

I found that if I just fished on Sulani in diffrent places on the island the programme didn't recognise it.
I had the same issue, I had to take my mermaid to the base game worlds to complete the first fishing aspiration.

You know you can drag the inventory to increase it's size. It helps a lot on managing it. But yeah still inventory is sucky

Something you should do is have a pause of a couple of seconds at the start of your video before you start talking. I can't put my finger on WHY but it seems to me that videos that have talking straight away don't work as well.
Yeah I kinda agree, give some time to adjust. I'll take that into consideration so I don't startle people. I'm not about fancy intros but really could just extend if a few seconds and solve a problem. Thanks.
@@CarlsSimGuides Just have say the title come up with no sound for a second or two before you talk. I think the reason this works is it gives you a buffer to adjust the volume and screen size without having to try and find the absolute start of the video to restart it once it's set up.

24-48h tops I think. Updating all baits is.. hard, because they are referenced as numbers in the XML and I'm having to cross reference them and use guesswork. Much harder than usual.
Completely understandable enjoy your videos and your site and channel has helped me make sims fun again for me so i dont mind the wait.
Sort for the inventory would be good as well so you dont have to search for all the fish in between everything else in your inventory.

since the game originally released i've been wondering why in the world there is no store to sell items too... they could just make it so you click on the cash register at a store, or the merchant, or whatever, select sell items and it shows your inventory.. basically just like when select "order" from a computer or bookshelf.. except now you sell your stuff and can sell one of each or the whole stack. should be easy, if i remember correctly that's how the pawn broker worked in sims 3. plus i find dragging an item to the little "sell" box in my inventory a bit of an immersion breaker. (tho i think it should be kept for people that prefer it that way, instead of going to a store or item to sell)

Inventory management also sucks because you have to do it while the game is paused. If you do it while the clock is running, the inventory keeps jumping to the top over and over and you lose your place. I've even accidentally sold the wrong things because of it. This wasn't a thing when the game was first released. It appeared a year or two ago and it makes me want to pull my hair out.
I like how I get notifications for my characters talking about "____ has identified the guppy!"
I've had my Sims identify the guppy a million times every day { I'm being slightly hyperbolic } and not a single one of them has fished or been to an island or anything but an indoor or outdoor pool, or the shower.
Are guppies just like, the best thing ever now?

Have you noticed the mermaids dont like mounted fish on their walls they get a negative moodlet for awhile.
Found out today that child of the sea trait gives an uncomfortable moodlet if you eat a fish dish (for eating friends)
I think it'd be nice to have an item you could store things in, without having to go to household or personal inventory.

Did they fix the collections bug where you would randomly lose all your collections. I want mounted fish to count for the collection so I can fill in a reset the collection without having raw fish in my inventory that can be accidentally cooked or worse have the fish turn foul.
EA couldnt be bothered to have an actual animation for setting and getting fish out of the new fishing traps. smh.

They have also made a change to conversations, as I have received messages that one Sim has taught another about a fish during a conversation, for example while they are playing chess. The problem is neither of the Sims had the fishing skill, so I do not understand how one could tell the other about fish information, where it can be found and what type of bait for it, when neither has the fishing skill.
You don't talk bait and tackle while hanging with friends? Fun topic especially at parties.
But yeah, that's strange. I couldn't get anyone to tell me anything but this concerns me that I'm wrong and they don't need any knowledge at all to share.

but seriously i'm not a fan of this one or sims 3's inventory, its just so hassle filled, wish it had tabs to sort objects into so i can find things like my camera or potions easier, after all if they seperate due to tabs/catagories it'll make going through the menu SEA-venty times better.
edit: also another Fins 4 suggestion i'd love is for lone wolf sims to gain a mood boost while fishing on their own and a negative boost while near non-friend sims as this would tie in to the talking while fishing (which i and others have done for real) and also give the lone wolf trait more uniqueness
Whats annoying is there are no recipes for the different fish.
On the PS4 you just click on the items and press triangle, sells the whole stack.
Inventory issue over here, again. I can't add fish to my tanks/aquariums. At first, I thought it was a certain type of fish only, but I've caught them all. No fish will go in the large tanks anymore. I can open it, but can't drag them in. Sigh
I wonder if the console versions will also get the patch. 🤔

Just really minor bug that happen to me on the Angle for big fish option. So my sims got a perk where you don't need to sleep (from the aspiration point shop), when i pick that option however the energy decreased (normal fishing not decrease the energy meter)
If only I could just put a whole cannoe into my pocket

I come to your guides first as I feel they are most complete and you don't have any weird voice anomalies that irritate me. :D Like some TH-camrs tent to squeal about things sometime or the volume constantly changes so I turn it up, then next sentence they are too loud. >.< I may have missed it, but do you know why some fishing signs sparkle? @@CarlsSimGuides Oh okay thanks. The sparkles from the aquatic lure looked a bit different from the colored sparkles I have seen. But I do have both characters in my current game so I can play the mermaid and make her use the lure then have my other sim fish there and see how the signs look. Or if you have time test it and let me know. Either way, you are so welcome for the kudos, you deserve it. And hahaha got a lil spunky in this vid too. I was a tiny bit down on you for the not liking this pack so much, but it's all good.
I think what baffled me is when I tried to use one of the free-roaming canoes to go fishing... Maybe I need to own it? Better get my sim to work, those things ain't cheap.

I appreciate your website and all the details you give. I'm a weird anomaly in the world today; I only have access to metered data so I tend not to watch videos at all unless I REALLY need the info. That being said, I find your videos to be very helpful and sometimes watching someone do something is better than reading about it. Since you asked for feedback, the one thing I would suggest is for you to either pause your audio recording occasionally, or build in a few seconds of showing how to do something without talking, so that you take a breath. By the end of the video, you tend to start dropping your voice and mumbling/hurrying to get to the end. It can be difficult to understand what you're saying at that point. (Again, not being mean, just some feedback for the next video)
