    This is a great tip. Corrupt fonts are almost always the reason why FCPX libraries or Apple Motion projects crash for mysterious reasons. I usually keep the yellow ones also.

    Thank you great tutorial! Question once the font is downloaded can I delete the font folder? Do you have a video on how to group various files such as png, pdf, and psd? Thank you!

      If you download a new font from a site
      Then you double-click to install font
      Once installed you can delete the folder with the font in your Downloads.
      What are you wanting to know about grouping various files (png, pdf...). In what use case scenario are you referencing.?

      Mike Murphy Co thank you...I believe it’s called a zip file. I would like to create some designs so that I may sell online if that makes sense thank you again

      Sure, zip files are a good way to pack anything into a folder and send it off. You can zip loose individual files or put them all in a folder and compress the whole folder.
      To compress a folder:
      Create a new Folder (right-click on your Desktop for example) and select New Folder
      Name the Folder
      Drag anything you want in the folder (pdfs, jpegs, pngs....)
      Right-click on the folder and select 'Compress"Name of Your Folder"
      You will see your original folder and a white folder with the same name and the extension .zip
      You can use the .zip folder to deliver files to people.
      Hope that helps.
      Mike

    Thank you for the video. I ran the validation on my fonts and found many red errors, which I made a list of the bad fonts then removed them.
    Although, I opened a text file using Verdana (system font) and I got a pop-up message that said font issue, this font is currently unavailable on your computer.
    Verdana was not listed as an error font and was not on the list of fonts that I removed and is still listed in Fontbook . I did a validation on this font and it is showing that Verdana is in green, but there is also a verdana.ttf, verdana italic.ttf, verdana bold.ttf, and verdana bold italic.ttf that is showing in yellow. Should I delete the yellow fonts?

    do we resolve duplicates automatically or manually?? If we choose manually, is font book going to resolve & do everything correctly, or might we run into problems in the future with apps that use these fonts ? (so like app X is using copy #1 of a font, and app Y is using copy #2 of the same font. Is this possible? If yes, then what happens if copy #1 of the font is now deleted (automatically or manually resolved) and copy #2 stays in the font book: Could app X run into "missing font" problem since copy #1 is no longer there??

    • @MikeMurphyCo
      @MikeMurphyCo  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      nounix 3 If you are experiencing issues with fonts, maybe try it. If not, you can leave your system as-is. 👍

      @@MikeMurphyCo so you don't know? (what if duplicates are slowing down my system/causing other problems that I don't know are duplicate-font-related?)

    • @MikeMurphyCo
      @MikeMurphyCo  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      nounix 3 if the font is on your system it will be available for all apps. If you resolve duplicates, the font will still be available for all apps regardless if you removed a duplicate version of the font.

    Hope to see video on Font Management
    1. How to manage lots of fonts in computer?
    2. Is it necessary to install all fonts in system?
    3. How to sync fonts with two computers?

    • @MikeMurphyCo
      @MikeMurphyCo  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Love the feedback and always up for making custom tutorials, but not sure I have conquered Font Mangement. I've tried several font management tools for Macs (Font Explorer, FontBase, Right Font) and just never really like them enough to purchase. I love the syncing of Adobe Typekit, but I also have a large non-Typekit collection and if I wanted to sync on another computer, I would just copy/paste the whole font folder. Thanks!

  • @jimb762

    Only problem is that the duplicates are different file types, .otf and .ttf and by resolving automatically it just chooses at random, you want to keep the .otf if possible, so best to do it manually

    @MikeMurphyCo. How about resolving font duplicates that are named the same but are designed by different designers and the styles and fonts are completely different. But since they have the same name… they are showing as duplicates and only one of the fonts with the same name can be active at a time? I have already tried renaming the fonts and I tried to rename them with a program which neither worked

    • @MikeMurphyCo
      @MikeMurphyCo  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's a tricky one so you may just need to make a decision which version you want to keep. You can delete one of the fonts or just keep the duplicates (unless you are running into issues). 👍

      Did you ever find a solution instead of just "select one" as a graphic designer I have many fonts that are similar names and completely different.

    • @MikeMurphyCo
      @MikeMurphyCo  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The solution I provided was if you have 2 identical or duplicate fonts in Finder, then the only option is to pick one of the duplicates and delete the others. If you do not ‘trust’ the Mac Fontbook, then keep would look and try out alternative font managers such as FontBase and see if they do a better job sorting duplicates.
      I struggle with Font Manager as i have way too many FontBook is good, but not the best. I would try some out of duplicates are a big problem you are trying to solve, but having issues. Hiope that helps. 👍

      @@MikeMurphyCo thank you for your reply. The question above was about duplicates that are completely different fonts. You can't just "keep" them because you can't use the duplicates without switching. Which of course is such a pain So this isn't really about trusting Mac Fontbook at all. There's no issues with the fonts. I don't use free fonts as they are almost always not commercial so the only warnings I have is the duplicates. The name is the same but the fonts are completely different. I just can't believe that Mac hasn't come up with a solution for this. It's suck a simple thing and there are posts all over for years on their site.

    What I’d really like to know is how to fix font errors so I can use all my lettering. Errorrs seem to be random. Recently I launched Photoshop & SURPRISE! a good 80+% of my fonts were gone. I’ve never experienced anything like that before.

    • @MikeMurphyCo
      @MikeMurphyCo  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry to hear that you are experiencing such issues. I will be happy to troubleshoot and try to help with this. There are 2 places you will find a Fonts folder on your mac (System Library and User Library)
      In Font Book in the left sidebar, you should see:
      All Fonts
      Computer
      User
      Computer = Mac System Fonts /System/Library/Fonts/
      User=
      /Users/$username/Library/Fonts/
      Photoshop looks at the fonts in the Mac User Library. If you remove fonts from the User library, they will not be available in Photoshop. If you deleted or removed fonts from the User library in Font Book, they should be in your Trash Can and you can use 'Put Back' to restore them so they will be available in Photoshop again.
      Hope that helps and let me know if I can further troubleshoot. 🍀

    I think resolving Automatically is not a good idea, which font format is gonna prioritised over others? is it going to delete OTF versions because you have another TTF installed? I mean.. you really have not idea of what Font Book is going to do if you click on that button

  • @EricKorbly

    Font Book sucks. It just does. Glitchy, & weird. Somehow it has trouble with files KB’s in size.
