So refreshing to see an informative and "to the point" type of video in an era where everyone seems to be making needlessly verbose video essays about anything and everything.
    Nice work, man.

Thank you! I am definitely not trying to play the YT game and tease things out or sensationalize things.

Similarly the PS2 has a default icon provided by the SDK. A moving starfish with a RGB background. It's obvious that some devs used this as a template as some release icons still use the same background colour combination.

Ooo, I haven't come across it yet. Have you seen ps2iodb.com/ ? They're doing the same kind of thing for PS2 icons that I'm trying to do for PS1. Haven't spotted the starfish so far

Thanks! My last video is on Sega CD but it's also about a tiny, weird little feature that not many people talk about, if interested: th-cam.com/video/y0gGgmegHbU/w-d-xo.html

I did not expect someone to jump in on Day 2 of this video being up with another example! Thanks, I'll check it out soon

What's the music used at the end of the video? Nice video as well, I appreciate the interesting subject matter.

It's the "manta ray demo" track from the first PS1 demo disc in North America. I'm surprised there aren't more uploads of it on YT, here's one with the music and the demo: th-cam.com/video/hjt7EnCV1ts/w-d-xo.html

@@ShawnS52 Thank you for the swift reply! I was thinking that "manta ray demo" meant this music, th-cam.com/video/JFeFm8i2RjE/w-d-xo.html, but I'll definitely listen to this version you linked me. Thanks!

Yikes, I don't know why that video you linked doesn't have the right song. Hopefully my video doesn't get dinged for it or something

What if it was the very first computer-rendered hand?

There's a chance that could be true on PS1 at least!

Hey, how did you do that JPEG effect when fading into stuff?

    • @ShawnS52
      @ShawnS52  4 วันที่ผ่านมา

the glitchy, pixel effect? It's a video transition in Davinci Resolve, I think it's actually called 'glitch'

You can copy the image or save it from my post on the site about it: memcard.art/is-this-the-oldest-memory-card-icon/

For now you'd have to right click in a browser and use the Inspect option. Then go to the Application > Frames > Images and just save the image from the list

You should probably specify you mean Sony. Playstation did not invent the memory card

Fair enough, updated the title. I'm so entrenched in PS1 stuff right now it's only obvious to *myself* that that's my angle on this. Curious if you know an older portable game save storage format that also used icons? Everything I've seen is only text-based
