Valid points. Real Silver Jubilee is 2k. Why buy a copy that costs 3 times as much. Maybe it comes with some things we don’t know about like a top hat or a signature pick that costs $300 or a 55 year old groupie that got passed around GNR in the 80’s.
Hell, get a Friedman BE 100 deluxe, and you still save a pocket full of cash, and I can guarantee any Marshall fan will be in Heaven with the Friedman.
@@shovington67 Friedman BE 100 Deluxe costs exactly the same as the Slash Magnatone SL100 at $4K each - so not exactly a better option; but at least you get more flexibility and more tones from the Friedman.
Not fussed on features depends how it sounds. Zz top are using a lower wattage and lower gain version and its already monstrous. I think it will be alright they are well built I don't know if there is much mark up look at wizard and simple they are but again all hand built. But yep it's a lot of money compared to many others with more features...
Reverend Gibbons also uses like three identical overdrive pedals cascaded into a JMP-1 Pre Amp before it even hits the Magnatone. Pretty sure he is just using Power Amp on the Magnatone. You don’t get his huge sound from just the Super 59 M-80 which I do want and is basically a modded Marshall built with a quality worthy of the cost of that particular Amp. This Slash Amp is just priced stupidly…
Yeah, I paid $1400.00 for the original run of Joe Satrianis JSX brand new. I bet it's better than that amp. Does the Triple X have the biasing switch in the back that lets you install your choice of EL34's or 6L6's? I'm guessing you know the Triple X is the JSX rebranded after they slit the sheets with Satch.
Well I picked up mine today from Magntone shop. IMHO it’s freakishly amazing sounding amp. This amp doesn't sound / feel like Silver Jubilee. It has thick open voice and maintains clarity under relatively high gain. Has one of the best string to string separation I ever heard in guitar amp. I spoke with Rod and he confirmed that starting point was Magnatone M80. I don’t know M80 topology but it’s different from very compressed Jubilee sound . I didn’t buy it cuz of the Slash. I love Slash playing but I pulled the trigger cuz few friends tried at NAMM and absolutely loved it. Cab looks amazing in person. It’s tuned very nicely and handles V30s like a champ. I wasn’t sure about cab cuz I generally prefer 2x12s with greenbacks. After trying it in person I happy I decided to get the cab. It does sound amazing . Interestingly , it seems like it is almost identical twin sibling ofFriedman 4x12 cab. Obviously it has nicer finish with that anaconda snake but it’s literally same shape and angle as Friedman. As of today , my top 3 favorite amps are 1972 super lead, Bogner JB45 , Mezzabarba M Zero Overdrive. Excited to play it extensively next couple days, Will see if it will get on top of my list.

Magnatone is actually a boutique amplifier company, if you look at their product line all of their amps are VERY expensive with just minimum features, similar to Two Rock which makes mainly clean amps at outrageous prices. Fuchs is another amp company with very high prices with limited features on their amps. What you are paying for with these companies is craftsmanship as opposed to features.
What is unknown by many, is the amazing clean tone that certain Magnatone amps can do... such as the M80, Super 59... The clean tone is like nothing I've heard.. linear tube sound! So yeah, the $4600 for this isn't as justified as a $3099 for the Super 59... I think this is so they can give $1000/copy to Slash for the endorsement... This isn't unique to this brand.
So for a gigging or non-gigging musician that just wants the tones, I totally agree with you that there are cheaper options. There are people though that like to buy/build rigs based on their heroes for fun. Yes it’s costly, yes you can get the tones cheaper. If it makes someone feel happy though and they can swing it, I say go for it! Also, there is an investment angle to some of this gear and I’m sure Magnatone is banking on that. Great example is the Mike McCready Custom Shop strat. List price was about $13K, now you can’t touch one for under $21K. Masterbuilts are the same way, Vincent Van Trigt and Dale Wilson have 7+ year waitlists for build slots?!?!
The price is high because it’s a special collector’s edition limited to 100 units to celebrate the Slash partnership. There will probably be a less expensive standard version.
Can you do an honest review of the other Magnatone amps? Starting with Magnatone Twilighter Stereo - 2x12 combo amp. What's close to all of that? That thing has a great sound and the Wet/Dry & Dry/Wet options sound incredible in the stereo settings.

OK, I was a bit scared on the amp price, but not THAT much, because i've seen more expensive heads before (like the Wizard shit). But the cab... Dude, almost $3K for a CAB!? I've never seen prices like that for cabs before! Cabs are usually on the $1K range, right? Damn, dude... 😅
Alot of amps are outrageously priced right now, and to your point there is alternatives to all of them. In stead of singling out Magnatone show solid alternatives to all of them. For those who will find that info helpful.
Specs only say so much though. On paper, the SLO-100 and Dual Rectifier are the same amp, but they sound very different. A Suhr Classic is the same as a Fender Strat, but don't play or sound the same. I agree this new amp is way too expensive though!
I'm gonna stick with my silver Jubilee, but man If slash came out with Bluetooth headphones from Marshall..I would definitely buy those...because nothing is more Slash than Bluetooth headphones
It may be expensive and overprized, but a increasing number of people who played it says it's amazing and some even says it's the best they ever played on. I never heard so I have no clue, however I heard that the power transformer costs three times as much as in any other head.
I played it at the NAMM show. I had the gain all the way up, and there was barley any gain. I was told that most of the gain comes from the power section, but you'd have to basically turn it all the way up. That's not practical unless you're Slash playing stadiums all the time. Definitely would not work for me.
Extra features is not something I would pay more for. IMHO, all the best amps in history keep things simple. Build quality, on the over hand, yes, I do mind about it. I have a Marshall Astoria Custom. Not a fan of the Slash tone, but I had a Jubilee that I loved. Well this amp can nail Jubilee tones... and can do a lot more while being more touch responsive. Plus, it has very useful features, enough headroom... Best amp purchase ever. People complained about the price tag of the Astoria line back in 2015. Not that expensive after all!
I bet that the Slash Magnatone, which was touted to produce Slash’s “signature tone,” will be sonically a Marshall Silver Jubilee clone. See for yourself: the amp’s own controls resemble Jubilee controls ! Shared EQ, & high gain knob and low gain knob: just like a Jubilee?! I’m sure that was a coincidence, since Slash played Jubilees for decades, right?! Yet a new Jubilee is literally half the cost of this Slash Magnatone!
Hard to bag on it if you haven't played it. I agree the price is crazy but if you look at other high end amplifiers the price point isn't too far off. Also, having more bells and whistles on an amp can add lots of confusion. Straight forward controls and kick ass tone doesn't disappoint as long as the tone is there. I'm not hating at all but I'll stick with my silver jubilee as it does everything I need a "basic" amplifier to do and then some
Hey Jarod, so I did some digging after your video and there are some things I feel I can ad to help understand the price. The first is low production, across the board. Private small operation out of St. Louis. Top notch parts and low volume mean all there amps are expensive. Then there are the parts themselves. Yes a EL84 is an EL84, but what is not on my Marshall 2525 is a leather handle made by an high end saddle company. the cheverons on some of there amps are 14k gold plate, for no reason then a premium feel. The CEO has stated that these will all be old school amps that you could find in the 50s and 60s, but way better built, so no midi, 4 channels, graphic eq etc. The amp covers are made of the same material that Bentley uses for there convertable tops on their cars. Finally there is Slash, so add 20%. Question back, are we all barking at the price because its the amp itself, or the Slash association with it making everyone do the side Dog glance? Anyway, Merry Christmas to you and Keri. Looking forward to your Astro review
Finally, an honest statement about a piece of guitar gear. So tired of every TH-cam guitar gear reviewer lauding everything with praise. If you are a manufacturer of musical instruments, like Magnatone, you have to love guitarists. They would buy a pile of dog crap if they were told they could plug into it and sound exactly like their favorite artist. Guitar gear is the most overhyped consumer product category in existence and sold to some of the most gullible consumers.
Thank you very much for commenting. I agree with everything you said here. I'm so sick and tired of all these shills on TH-cam just praising everything so they can be one of the cool guys.
Everything is expensive, can’t believe people will pay 4g for basic part amps like mark 7 , jp2c. There’s other expensive amps like redplate and 3rd power , custom friedmans, fortin , they sell for almost 5 grand and have been for some years now , this slash amp is pretty cheap I might order one because they will triple in price in a few years I don’t doubt it
I just figured out why the price is so high with the bundle... It comes with a speaker cable! 🙂I would purchase any one of those other amps you mentioned in a heartbeat before this one.
Getting into Friday necks and woodcutter circuit territory with these prices .... definitely for guys who drive Maseratis and drink mud water and wear affliction apparel....
Reminds me of Warcraft WOTLK. back in the day the auction house prices went from farmable to futile and it ruined the game for every body....now our simulation of reality is as messed up as an MMORPG sandbox game from blizzard entertainment....great job CEOs let's charge a tone of money and slap an asexual clive barton nightmare on the pricetag and see if it gets us to the 4th quarter in profit margins..
They should join Gibson and launch together Slash ultra deluxe signature guitar and this amp. Throw in a dozen of slash picks, strap, top hat, etc etc and sell it for $50K. I bet they will sold out in less than a day.
Well Marshalls ain't 100 watts till you hook a second cab So One cab, pull 2 power tubes 100 water is now a 25 if ur lucky My Rehearsal Customers NEVER KNEW Boogies and Marshalls were half powered
This amp is for a specific target audience and I don't believe you and many others fall into that category and that is okay. I will agree that a lot of branding is involved likely driving up the price; however, as a major Slash fan, I heard this amp compared to the Marshall AFD 100 (Slash's signature Marshall Amp) and was blown away by the difference. The Magnatone amp has much more warmth and depth compared to the Marshalls and I was a skeptic on these at first and finally came around this week. If you read up on Slash it's not a cash grab. From his royalties alone he makes well over $300K a month. The guy has a passion for music and amps and wanted to do something different from Marshall. After all, he is good friends with Billy Gibbons who introduced him to these amps. Nonetheless, it is not a cash grab. Brands like Magnatone and Gibson know exactly what they're doing in terms of the focus for their companies. They are not here to be a fan to everyone but more specifically to their clients who understand the brand. It is impossible to make a product and expect everyone to like it. I can say being a massive Slash fan that this amp has been a big hit and the focus on it was executed correctly from an amp design perspective, as well as aiming for Slash fans who are truly focused on his tone.
Well just a heads up brother it’s totally worth every penny the cab and head are covered in South African rhino testical skin that alone sells for 1500 a yard 😅
That combined price is almost what i paid for my first used car when i was a teenager Lol. That has to be the most expensive head and cabinet on the market right now.
I thought the asking prices for Wizard amps were already ridiculous and dumb, but this is even worse. But surely there will be people over at Rig Talk or The Gear Page who pay such prices to think they are especial lol.
@@TONEWARSgearshow No it’s not the most expensive. Two Rock Silver Sterling Signature Head and Cab sells for $8,300 and the TS1 and Bloomfield Drive are both over $7,000. That being said, priced individually Two Rock cabs are top out at $1,400 so this Magnatone cab is seriously overpriced.
Slash starts collecting money for his retirement: Marshall has already made a special edition, exactly as he did for other guitar greats (Marsden, Yngwie, Rhoads) and evidently doesn't want to make a reissue
It's a boutique amp. Anything and everything "boutique" is for deep-pocketed people. Boutique gear doesn't have to be radically different than productuon line gear, but there is something that justifies the big bucks some well-off people are willing to pay for them: they're handbuilt with the greatest sourceable components. You may say you don't care, but it is what it is. To say it is "insulting" for an amp to be expensive is just ludicruous. Just because you can't buy it doesn't mean you should be "offended". That's birdshit. Magnatone isn't putting a pistol on anybody's head to force them to buy what they make. They're not trying to fool anybody either.
It's as crazy as the $20k Murphy Lab Les Paul's with Brazilian fretboards. Evidently those fretboards are supposedly worth $10k over the price of the regular boards. That's some pricey wood!!!
I think the problem with this amp is the fact magnatone is the company making it. Every magnatone amp is pretty expensive. The afd 100 was about 2k when it launched years ago. It makes me wonder if another company could have put out the same product but cheaper. I think marshall is also to blame. A lot of this could have been avoided if they would have just made the modded amps evh, slash, and others used apart of their standard line up.
Ok… you entertained me 😂 l’m sure it sounds good. I’m sure Magnatone is paying Slash a mint % of this cost. I look forward to hearing some Kemper profiles coming up.
Whos going to buy this? Not the doctors or lawyers as you mentioned, rather the usual bedroom rockers. In this country, many people buy houses and cars they cant afford, along with other crap. Lets not be surprised if these sell well and magnatone raises the price tag.
For that price it better come with duff mckagan, a 5th of jack, and 6 months of rehab.
Whoa, maybe in Duff’s drinking days. He’s buff now! You’ll get free workouts! Actually a guitar buddy of mine stayed at his house back then and said he had close to a 5th of Vodka before breakfast!

The rolls Royce of amplifier. For a particular type of Cork sniffer indeed.
For that money you can get a sophie lloyd sig kiesel with one of her freshly worn g strings autographed.
I'm not hating at all but I'll stick with my silver jubilee as it does everything I need a "basic" amplifier to do and then some
I bet in a blind test, no one would be able to tell the difference between this overpriced turd and the silver Jubilee
Cheaper doesn’t always mean worse, but more expensive doesn’t always mean better. Marketing definitely has to make their money.
Brilliant. LOVE this video!!! The british expression for this is 'taking the p*ss!'
The price is asinine. Agreed. What's up with the bad hairpiece? Feel like a dick asking, but curiosity prevails!
I saw a sign today for "artisanal gelato " this is where we live now. Every cone is hand wired btw😊
Does it even have a fx loop lol
This amp better come with a full brick of the purest rock star blow I've ever seen in my life. Ridiculous. 😤
Cough up 23,000 for a limited edition SuperDragon - hoping the run of the mill amp run will be about the same price but not holding my breath.
Thanks for commenting. I appreciate the info big time
Gibson is gonna raise the price of next Slash les paul $3k!😂
Finally, an honest statement about a piece of guitar gear. So tired of every TH-cam guitar gear reviewer lauding everything with praise. If you are a manufacturer of musical instruments, like Magnatone, you have to love guitarists. They would buy a pile of dog crap if they were told they could plug into it and sound exactly like their favorite artist. Guitar gear is the most overhyped consumer product category in existence and sold to some of the most gullible consumers.
Thank you very much for commenting. I agree with everything you said here. I'm so sick and tired of all these shills on TH-cam just praising everything so they can be one of the cool guys.
kind of looking forward to playing profiles of this tho
It looks and sounds just like an 800 I tried one , not impressed I will take the jubilee all day long !!! I agree with you 110%
Let's see a shootout between the Magnatone and a Sundragon...😎
If they sell two of these I would be impressed 😅. Friedman blows this out of the water..
They should join Gibson and launch together Slash ultra deluxe signature guitar and this amp. Throw in a dozen of slash picks, strap, top hat, etc etc and sell it for $50K. I bet they will sold out in less than a day.
I can’t afford it, but I would absolutely buy it.
Well
Marshalls ain't 100 watts till you hook a second cab
So
One cab, pull 2 power tubes
100 water is now a 25 if ur lucky
My Rehearsal Customers NEVER KNEW
Boogies and Marshalls were half powered
Those prices are ridiculous, they are way out of reach for most including yours truly.
LMFAO😅😅😅😅!!!
That combined price is almost what i paid for my first used car when i was a teenager Lol. That has to be the most expensive head and cabinet on the market right now.
Yeah it's definitely the most expensive combination on the market right now. it's the most basic as well LOL. how ridiculous
I thought the asking prices for Wizard amps were already ridiculous and dumb, but this is even worse. But surely there will be people over at Rig Talk or The Gear Page who pay such prices to think they are especial lol.

No it’s not the most expensive.
My fractal sounds the same and can do all of that…my tonex is cheaper than my fractal and still can do that
Then you woke up?
Analog is inconsistent, expensive, and unreliable…my fractal and my tides both are better and lighter with more possibilities than a 5k amp
I have never had problems with "analog" amps. I will chalk up your problems to user error on your part. @@giosundance5643
That's some pricey wood!!!
watch what you say about Gibson you'll get sued!😁
Well put
Being in business is a cash grab.
You can get a bogner ecstasy for $2500 and have the tone of your life
Check out the Carsten Grace
JCM 800+jubilee+1960V =????
Whos going to buy this? Not the doctors or lawyers as you mentioned, rather the usual bedroom rockers. In this country, many people buy houses and cars they cant afford, along with other crap. Lets not be surprised if these sell well and magnatone raises the price tag.
An ultra expensive Marshall JMP copy…
Le me guess this is based on a JCM 800 2203 with a few resistrors value changed ?
They can keep it. That price is bullshit. Slash should be ashamed. A slap in the face for the working musician.
