Hey everyone! Really sorry for not putting this here when it happened, but this mystery was solved quite some time ago. I'm very happy with the reception this video has gotten though, and I encourage you guys to keep talking about it if you want. If you'd like to know where this bit of music comes from, here's a video explaining it th-cam.com/video/yWchQtNeO8k/w-d-xo.html
the version i grew up with is pretty much the 1.0 version except they replaced the sorceress theme with spike's theme, and i didnt mind that at all since its the best trach in the game by far and more fitting for a "final" battle
I played the game as a kid (PAL version) roughly around release (like it must have been 2001) and I can confirm/deny the following: - evening lake and sunrise spring had the same music - boss fight actually had it's own theme but not the same as played in this video - haunted tomb actually had it's own theme and not the same as cloud spires - the speedways actually had their own tracks too - every other example always had the first track played for both worlds as shown in this video
It's kinda the same relationship that the High Caves music has with Tree Tops, but I think those were both good versions, the Lost Fleet music was always kind of annoying
Nope. I recorded the original to VHS and then cassette because I liked it, so when I got the white label version of the game later I couldn't believe it
I'm fairly certain the track for both of the Enchanted Towers minigames were meant for the whole level, but Sgt. Byrd's theme takes priority. Though, the whistling makes me think it was more intended for the wolf minigame rather than the skateboarding one. People likely say that the Evening Lake and final boss themes being Sunrise Spring is a result of a glitch is probably not only because both tracks are actually still in the game, but also because Sunrise Spring could easily be the default track, being the first home world in the game. One more thing, Spyro 1 has quite a few unused tracks specifically in the European version. Most just sound like slowed-down versions of other songs, but there's one original song in there. Why they're there is beyond me. Sorry for the long comment. I've had v1.0 all my life and it's really annoying that the PSN release isn't even the later version.
My cousins and I noticed this as kids(we were HUGE Spyro fans and went through like two or three copies of each game)...my aunt bought us Spyro Three to play at our grandparents the day it came out, that must have been 1.0...but for Christmas 2001 my mother bought me a personal copy to play on our PSX at home, and I was flabbergasted at just how many new tracks were on it...of course back then, people weren’t dissecting video games as they are today, so there was no way of getting answers. My younger cousin and I also experienced the weird glitch in Spyro one where if you are in a level for a long time the music changes, sometimes even to tracks not meant to be used...it’s quite strange, even spooky at times. Of course, our eldest cousin wasn’t there at the time and didn’t believe a word of it 🤣, to this day she still doesn’t, Even when we’ve shown her evidence here on TH-cam that the bug is there.
i grew up with the 1.0 version and honestly the only one i'm really upset about is the final boss. i've heard the greatest hits tracks and honestly i don't mind the way 1.0 has it. the only one from the greatest hits i particularly dislike is its track for lost fleet, to me it's just the sheila's alp track but with an addition that makes it annoying, and i honestly think its track in 1.0 fits it much better. other than that, while i still prefer 1.0's soundtrack, i definitely don't mind the rest in the greatest hits Edit: I also want to add that I feel like 1.0's Lost Fleet music fits Lost Fleet much better than the Super Bonus Round, and I feel like, if either of them should've been changed, it was the Super Bonus Round.
Same story, plus IMO Harbor Speedway is just superior to all the other speedway tracks as, well, a /speedway's/ OST. And honestly... even with the Sorceress it actually kinda fits. You've been building up to that since the start, but by this point you've beaten the likes of Spike and Scorch, and if you've struck around for the previous games you've also beaten Gnasty Gnorc, Crush, Gulp, and Ripto. The Sorceress is basically another day in the office for Spyro by that point.
I've had version 1.0 for all my life, and I never knew there was a completely different version of the game until recently. And then it started to really bug me, like why they would need some 2/3 different versions of the same game, just with changes to soundtracks. You explained it pretty well, thank you! Did you know that 1.0 is also missing a cutscene? The creation of Spike is never shown in my game. I guess they added it in for later releases. Honestly, the reused tracks never really bothered me too much. Maybe it's just because I grew up with them, but I always thought they were at least a bit fitting, especially compared to the tracks that are just remixed from other tracks. Lost Fleet as Sheila's Alp is MEGA weird to me. Super Bonus World was good, since they both had that 'treacherous, acidic pools' feel. Same with Dino Mines and Molten Crater, one's a volcano, one's a desert, the soundtrack has a 'its hot as hell' feel, better than Sunny Villa, anyway. The only one that really stuck out as strange to me was the Sorceress battle. Sunrise Spring? That's weird. I always figured it was just trying to take you back to the beginning, make you remember where you first started and what your journey is amounting up to. I much prefer the real boss track now, though. But, what's stranger still is how in some versions the fight is just Spike's Arena theme. I suppose it's better than Sunrise Spring but, why would they need three versions of the same game, different tracks, same fight...
The version of the game I usedto have followed all the 1.0 soundtracks apart from 1 and that's the sorceress' battle music was the same as Spike's Arena... Which suited the fight really well
I was pretty shocked when I found out that quite a few pieces of music weren’t on my original Spyro 3 game. I remember being on TH-cam and listening to a playlist years ago and hearing tracks that I hadn’t heard before. It’s pretty jarring as I was 5 when Spyro 3 came out and got it not long after its release to at about 17/18 years old, hearing music for levels that I had already attached a song to was pretty weird. Still haven’t played the game with the missing tracks added but hopefully one day I will!
13:25 in addition to that point, 9/10 if you use the swim in the air glitch and you swim to the top of the level, the game will freeze and start playing music from different levels. I’ve personally heard the Greatest Hits Evening Lake track and the GH Dino Mines track when this happens in the BLACK LABEL copy that uses Sunrise Spring and Molten Crater tracks for those levels. So, this tells me that the tracks are on the disc, it’s just that they didn’t have time to put them in the correct levels for whatever reason.
Yo! Not sure if you've already found it, but the Gulp's Overlook melody is from an old sample CD called Symphonic Adventures. It's still available from EastWest sounds as part of their 25th Anniversary collection. : )
I own a platinum european version of this game: the Enchanted towers skate and Lost Fleet soundtracks are the same of the 1.0 you show in this video. I wasn't aware of those differences and I've always assumed the tracks were in the right place. they also fit well
10:40 This one sounds so Spyro 1/2! I think Europe's Platinum version was a middle point between 1.0 and Greatest Hits. Most of the tracks are 1.0, but the Sorceress had a boss theme, not the Sunrise Springs one.
True! Though I'm pretty sure it's more fitting than Sunrise Springs :p I also noticed how the most recent tracks in Spyro 3 added for the Greatest Hits version sound a little Enter The Dragonfly-ish. You can feel Copeland's gradual evolution between games.
Man I'm was in the market for a new vst and came across Omnisphere (By Spectrasonics) and when I did research on the company I came across Distorted Reality and was blown away when I heard Winter Tundra. Glad you made a vid on it and the music of Spyro!
I heard Spyro sounds from that Distorted Reality CD in some of Ayumi Hamasaki's earlier music (stuff produced by HAL). It's so cool hearing that stuff in such random places!
I had no idea you liked Spyro, Cynn. The first 3 spyro games were the embodiment of my childhood and hearing all this stuff about missing tracks is actually really interesting. Loved the video I'd be up for seeing a vid on that demo disc too. Nice job Cynn. ^^
I had the Greatest Hits, but I had no idea other versions existed. When I was playing Reignited, the audio sounded as i remembered in classic mode, but apparently others pointed out new songs and I was confused what they were talking about lmao
So wow, I have been playing the 1.0 version for the last 18 years, and I never realized it. I will say whether it's the Greatest Hits release or the original, Spyro 3 does have some memorable tracks (everyone who I have talked to has loved Fireworks Factory's music) but even as a child I felt frustrated by the reuse of tracks in so many levels and subsequent mini-games. I know that technically the first two games did have some track reuse (Toasty and Gnorc Cove are the same song) and in terms of the underlying beat there are similarities, but it still felt different. Probably by far my favorite song in terms of the feel, the dynamics of the lighter aspects to the harder bass hits (but existing in the hardest level) in Spyro is in my opinion, the underrated Twilight Harbor. I will say it makes me sad that Stewart Copeland didn't get more time to work on the music before it was pushed out the door, because even the Greatest Hits version soundtrack I've heard, I dislike it too, as it's just remixes and small reworks to already existing songs (Lost Fleet as the best example) is just Shelia's Alp theme reworked a bit, and I hate it. I think the only way it's 1.0 version is a bit more easy to stomach is we go to Lost Fleet well before we head to the Super Bonus stage. I feel that in regards to the series, 3 has the weakest soundtrack, and it's a near tie with 2 and 1, 1 I feel fits better within it's atmosphere, and 2 wins based on variety. Really cool video man, it's kind of like listening to Mr. Modez Pineapple with his Spyro remixes, blended in with a chunk of video game history with the behind the scenes/cut content stuff; but specifically revolving around music. Really cool to have found out about your channel today!
Thanks for this comment! I really appreciate you taking the time to write all this and really appreciate your feedback. I've been hella slow making anything else but hopefully soon I'll regain that spark.
I heard Gulps theme in an episode of South Park and Wizard Peak is used for the Amanda Show. I played the PAL version of and there a lot of music and sound differences.
Most screen composers they got at the time weren't as familiar with production programs, so it makes sense they'd use samples to add effects. Distorted Reality may have just been available for them in the playstation studio (or whatever it's called) and they figured they'd get their money's worth out of it. Not sure if you found this in your research or if you still care, but I think I can back that up. Spyro 1, I wanna say, used only instruments a pretty nice synthesizer at the time could make. There's a short documentary on this game where he goes through his process on making themes for each level, and it does sound like he's a bit new to it too. Then I'm guessing Spyro 2 comes along, Distorted Reality is in now and using long samples wasn't controversial (Plus it was from a program for use). Also, i got to meet Copeland a couple years back and he admitted to being a Fake It Til You Make It kinda guy :) He's my favorite composer lol I really enjoyed these two videos. Thanks!
Discrepancies like this have always fascinated me, thanks for sharing your findings through these two videos, they were very interesting to watch. Super excited for reignited trilogy! We've got Crash and now Spyro, hopefully one day the Sly Cooper collection makes its way to PS4...
Same!! I'm so excited for the HD remakes and it's also really reawakened my interest in these really obscure things about the game. I'm probably going to make a video about the demo disc real soon!
You can also find a lot of Samples on Spectrasonics "Metamorphosis", "Bizarre Guitar", "Heart of Africa/Asia". Many of the same Samples were also used in the Silent Hill Games , Ratchet & Clank and many many more. I really enjoyed your Video :)
I grew up with the original pal version and I still remember being completely blown away the first time i heard the final boss theme and the other speedway themes on youtube, I was like "What?? There was other Music from The Game that I never got to hear! Thats so mean, why would they do that?!" And then I basically went down the entire Soundtrack of the Game on youtube.
Watching this on June 5th 2020 and I can confirm the PSN version has this problem I knew something was up when the evening lake music was the same as the first homeworld, also JUST finished the honey speedway level and I noticed the music was off too... BTW I am playing the US PSN version on my Fat 80gb ps3. I had the original version for ps1 & I miss those tracks!😭 Very nostalgic! Amazing video!!
In my childhood I had the pirate disk with all three games on it. Because of limited storage at old CD, there was music from Spyro 3 in Spyro 1 and 2. I liked Stone Hill with Sgt. Bird's theme and Glimmer with Bamboo Terrace's. It fits very good. Sorceress's battle and Evening lake here had Sunrise Spring's theme, but I already heard Sorceress's theme in Ice Cavern and Evening lake theme too, but don't remember, in which level it was. So I confused, why GH tracks already exist in game disk, but not used correctly.
One detail you left out: the PAL Platinum does use the tracks as 1.0 but there is one exception. The Sorceress's Lair uses the Spike's Arena theme instead of Sunrise Springs. Perhaps it's because I'm used to the original but I don't like most of the Greatest Hits tracks. Evening Lake: The GH track actually sounds okay. Sorceress's Lair: I think Spike's Arena works better, but GH is definitely better than Sunrise Spring. Lost Fleet: I really don't like the GH track. It sounds too much like Sheila's theme. Enchanted Towers Skateboard: I prefer it with Desert Ruins. Dino Mines: GH is too peaceful. Crystal Islands: I could get used to the GH track. Haunted Tomb: Again, GH is too peaceful. Cloud Spires fits much better. Honey Speedway: I would need to hear more of GH to be sure. Mushroom Speedway: Again, it seems too peaceful. Country Speedway: I could get used to it.
I grew up with PAL Platinum, myself, so I'm used to it's own soundtrack. When I heard the GH tracks, I was really confused. While I understand that they were probably the original intended tracks, I'm not too big on the GH ones either. I actually always thought the reused themes in the Midnight Mountain stages really worked in a "coming full circle" manner, since they used themes from Sunrise Spring stages, specifically. As a side note, I personally hope Reignited allows one to choose if they want the original/Platinum soundtrack or the GH soundtrack. Or even better, choose what theme you want for each stage.
That's why! I knew I had the 1.0 version, but I did remember the Sorceress' Lair being menacing and not Sunrise Springs (live in Europe, so was definitely the PAL version)
TheMoonRover This is the disc I grew up on. I recently bought the PSN trilogy and the Sorceress’ has the same music as Sunrise Spring, which kinda...almost disgusted me in a way 😂 Spike’s music was perfect for her, even more so than the Greatest Hits version.
The Idol Springs Theme Is The Same As The One In Fracture Hills, Lost Fleet's Theme Is A Remix Of Sheila's, As With Enchanted Towers And Sgt. Byrd's Themes, And Shady Oasis's Is A Sped Up Version Of Scorch's.
Thank you so much for this! Made me realize how much I've been missing playing the Original! But I got the Greatest Hits ISO running in epsxe now! Seriously, thank you so much for this. The only place on the internet that details the changes in music between the 2 versions.
Nah, the Enchanted Towers thing had to have been a glitch with the fact that Sgt. Byrd's level overlaps with the actual level, and he has to pick up the same gems/items that Spyro can. Hence it can't just be a replica level. So the "skate park theme" was the music that was going to play in the whole level from the beginning, but instead it only works in the skate park.
The PSN version I brought from Brazil's PSN have the 1.0 music, except for Speedway levels. I can't say if it have the same musics from the GH version, because the first Speedway level from Reignited version doesn't sounds like I remember from the PSN version I brought (as far I remember) or from the version I played on the PS1 (that plays the fourth Speedway level music)
I kinda stumbled upon this and the previous video by accident and I'm honestly really glad I did cause it was super interesting to hear about this side of things. I did always wonder why they never fixed the music issue with the PSN version but I guess we'll never know. hopefully with the remaster they'll sort it and we can all finally play the game with the music as it was meant to be :')
I still question how anyone stumbles upon these videos since they're such stupidly obscure interests but I certainly can't complain. Thanks for the comment :D
I also most definitely grew up with 1.0, and so those tracks did stay with me (though I can't remember if I experienced the Final Boss-track glich, I remember it being more menacing). Therefore, I really thing they did an excellent job taking the pre-existing tracks from other levels and reusing them to other fitting levels. Molten Crater fits really well to the intimidating Dino Mines (better than the proper one, imo), Cloud Spires is just a great track and is cool in Haunted Tomb (though the proper one's good too, a bit torn on that one), they also did take the best Speedway-track to use for them all (though it definitely lacked variation!). I also always associate Super Bonus Round with Lost Fleet - it just fits perfectly to the hazy feel of that level - and the Sheila's Alps-remix is not bad, it just doesn't really fit at all. The reused Skateboard-track is cool too. However, some of them definitely warranted a redo - Crystal Islands, Evening Lake and the Speedways, as I mentioned. All in all, I think they did a good job reusing tracks and capture the feel.
Wow! That actually explains a lot to me. I'm a huge Silent Hill fan. And a few years ago I listened to the soundtrack of Silent Hill Homecoming and was utterly stunned to hear one of my favorite tracks from Spyro. The track from the SHH soundtrack is "Wintery Mist" and it's the same track used for Winter Tundra in Spyro 2!!! 😀 And I'm absolutely sure I heard from Distorted Reality before, in context with Silent Hill. 🤔💡👍 So thanx a lot for making this interesting video!!! 😃
I couldn't tell what your implication of the Greatest Hits version is in this video, but I have black label versions of all three games with the intended soundtracks. I'm not sure why the misconception exists that only the Greatest Hits version corrected the soundtracks, but it's been driving me crazy for a decade now. There has to have been an unstated publication in-between the original release and the Greatest Hits. Or else a number of Greatest Hits versions were released under the black label. The only iteration on my copy is the Super Bonus World music playing over Lost Fleet, but otherwise, all the other post-1.0 tracks are intact. What confirmed my awareness of this oddity is that I found it jarring when the Desert Ruins theme played in the Enchanted Towers mini-games during my recent PS3 download play-through of the game, but also that I wasn't expecting Sheila's Alp to play during Lost Fleet in Reignited. I couldn't relate to either the 1.0 soundtrack or the Greatest Hits version.
Hope this response isn't too late to get to you but this is actually something I had not considered. Honestly, I came to the conclusion that the GH version fixed the missing/incorrect tracks from both all the places online that said that was the case as well as looking into it myself. The videos you see on screen during the comparisons are all gameplay from me, so the audio was like that when I played through. That said, I don't doubt at all that there was a 1.1 version released after the game's initial release and before the GH version hit shelves, and this might also explain why I remember getting spyro 3 a year after it's release and it having all the tracks in the game.
I hate what they did here in the NTSC original version of Spyro 3, reusing the Sunrise Springs homeworld theme for the Sorceress battle music, it doesn't sound like battle music at all, in the original PAL version, they reuse Spike's battle theme for the Sorceress battle, that is battle music and makes more sense, in the Greatest Hits version, they fixed the Sorceress' battle theme, also, the Greatest Hits version got updated with a few more bug fixes for the Collector's Edition Boxset of The Original Spyro Trilogy, I got that boxset currently, I got it differently and more lucky, though I need to fix it a bit since Spyro The Dragon's case is broken and Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage has a scratch that makes the second Speedway in Autumn Plains unplayable, well, I actually don't know if it is unplayable as I didn't wait for it to load since it was taking too long, and the cardboard box cover is ripped a bit, now, I don't wanna replace the first game's case unless I figure out how to get the spine cover out, I already figured out how to get the back cover and inside cover out, but still, I just need to fix it a bit, anyway, I got it for Christmas at a pawn shop for $30.00 brand new, the normal way to get the Collector's Edition Boxset is on Amazon either used for $100.00 or brand new for $500.00
Gotta say, I am just the tiniest bit disappointed in Copeland when I heard the Distorted Reality-samples; not for the percussions and SFX, those are implemented neatly, but the ambience for the hubworlds in Spyro 2 are essentially the Luminize-track cut up and altered to become the three tracks. He's chosen well, and the ambience fits greatly to the seasons, but I must admit I thought he composed the original thing himself. I know he's never been the biggest audio/synth-engineer, but still.
It would be cool to solve the mystery of the glitched music in Spyro 3. A video on TH-cam made by StardustNova Archive shows that. It happened in my PAL Platinum version of Spyro 3 as well, after I completed the game (117%) and returned to the title screen. I can't recognise the music it plays after that.
It definitely DOES sound a bit like the credits music, but what's strange to me is it sounds like it slowed down. If this were a case of it being midi based, I could see that as the game wasn't able to play the track fast enough or something made it play slow, but iirc since Spyro 3 was disc based all the music files were just audio files, meaning something in the game would have had to have been built in in order to slow down audio which I find highly unlikely. That all said, I'm going to dig around the disc and see what I can find.
Here’s what I think is better for each level: Evening Lake -> Greatest Hits Sorceress -> PAL (Spike’s Arena) Lost Fleet -> Black Label Enchanted Towers Skatepark -> Either Dino Mines -> Black Label Crystal Islands -> Either Haunted Tomb -> Either Every Speedway -> Greatest Hits
The version that Ive played throughout my life uses some of the same tracks for different levels, it seemed lazy, until I discovered other versions have more tracks? Its definitely the most interesting soundtrack for this alone! The super bonus level really disappointed me 😩
As far as 1.0 goes, the PAL and NTSC versions are virtually identical (considering neither can achieve 60/50fps). The NTSC 1.1 Greatest Hits version fixes all the missing music, but the PAL Platinum (the 1.1 released in EU) still has the issue of Evening Lake and the final boss playing the wrong music. It remains unfixed to this day on PAL versions. The 1.1 of PAL fixes the missing music otherwise, though.
Grown up playing the PAL 1.0 version by the looks of things lol I have to admit I always found Spyro 3's design to be lacking compared to the first two games. In Spyro 2 I used to like the whole 'level complete' display but the 3rd game just seemed dull in comparison. Don't get me wrong I love all the original games
It goes off of the greatest hits versions, which is good since imo those are the definative versions. An exception is that in Enchanted Towers they still used the Sgt. Bird music, but with a different, more sleepy arrangement.
Not a "holiday deadline" so much as to coincide with the real-world "year of the dragon". Any later would have been unacceptable, I guess. Apparently a rushed game is preferable to missing the deadline of your game's stupid naming choice.
Hot take: the Molten Crater theme fits Dino Mines *way* better than the Greatest Hits version. Whenever I play Dino Mines in Reignited, I mute the music and look up Molten Crater instead. Switch out all the others, but you’ll have to pry that one from my cold, dead hands.
Hey everyone! Really sorry for not putting this here when it happened, but this mystery was solved quite some time ago. Also, worth mentioning that the PAL version of Spyro 3 had the second boss theme instead of the first hub theme playing over the final boss battle.
Yeah!
Am I the only one who thinks Lost Fleet's Greatest Hits music is terrible? It's literally just Sheila's theme with added instruments.

Really? I personally loved the Sheila's Remix for Lose Fleet. I think it's rather groovy.
I mean while the Bonus Round music fits better, I don't think I'd say the GH version is terrible.
most of the greatest hit tracks added are just remixes. Haunted Tomb is really hard to tell, but it is just Cloud Spires in the background.
Spyro: Year of the Dragon was rushed so it could release in the year 2000 ...the Year of the Dragon.
Fancy seeing you here, sir 👌
@@b13cw53 Hey! How goes it?
The 1.0 track for Lost Fleet sounds actually pretty fitting
There's also a prototype lost fleet track that also sounds more fitting
I'm fairly certain the track for both of the Enchanted Towers minigames were meant for the whole level, but Sgt. Byrd's theme takes priority. Though, the whistling makes me think it was more intended for the wolf minigame rather than the skateboarding one.

Except the tracks in spyro 1 arent unused. They play if you stay in a level too long
I'm so glad I got the greatest hits version as a kid. I mean using Sunrise Spring for the final boss? What were they thinking?
It was a glitch move on
To me it always felt like a 'it started with this and it ends with this' sorta thing, never felt off to me as a kid.
Yeah that's exactly what I think too
Agreed
Having played both extensively I do prefer the original Lost Fleet music, which I felt was more fitting as compared for the Super Bonus Round
I wondered if the Greatest Hits tracks for the Super Bonus Round and the Lost Fleet were switched, too.
I've had version 1.0 for all my life, and I never knew there was a completely different version of the game until recently.
I actually have a colored disc version that has the proper music and cutscenes.
So, this tells me that the tracks are on the disc, it’s just that they didn’t have time to put them in the correct levels for whatever reason.
im glad i had a greatest hits version
i would have definitely noticed and would have missed out on a lot of great soungs
Specifically, she used the same theme as Spike.
True! Though I'm pretty sure it's more fitting than Sunrise Springs :p I also noticed how the most recent tracks in Spyro 3 added for the Greatest Hits version sound a little Enter The Dragonfly-ish. You can feel Copeland's gradual evolution between games.
Whoa, I guess I had the original 1.0 game when I was younger because I don't remember the certain levels having their unique songs.
Well shit
You provided a lot of well-researched information. How do you not have more views?
To be completely fair, this is an insanely niche topic. But thank you :)
Man I'm was in the market for a new vst and came across Omnisphere (By Spectrasonics) and when I did research on the company I came across Distorted Reality and was blown away when I heard Winter Tundra. Glad you made a vid on it and the music of Spyro!
Sunrise spring playing over the battle with the sorceress is shamefully anticlimactic, very glad I grew up with the greatest hits version
I had only ever played the 1.0 version and hearing the real final boss music blows my mind. Thanks for this.
I heard Spyro sounds from that Distorted Reality CD in some of Ayumi Hamasaki's earlier music (stuff produced by HAL). It's so cool hearing that stuff in such random places!
Fun fact, the sample from distorted reality used in the beginning of Stone Hill is also heavily used in the “final hours” song from Majora’s Mask.
I had a PAL version, and it's like the 1.0 version you show here, but the Sorceress had Spike's theme
EXACTLY thanks, I thought I was the only one noticing that it wasn't sunrise springs but not the one shown in the video either
I had no idea you liked Spyro, Cynn. The first 3 spyro games were the embodiment of my childhood and hearing all this stuff about missing tracks is actually really interesting. Loved the video I'd be up for seeing a vid on that demo disc too. Nice job Cynn. ^^
I think I'm the only one that grew up with the greatest hits version/prefers it over the others
Cursed Saber Nope, you’re not the only one, my older brother had the greatest hits version, and I’d play it all the time lmao
You not the only one, I got this game in 2003 and good thing I did not got spyro 3 earlier, I got a demo of it.
I had the Greatest Hits, but I had no idea other versions existed. When I was playing Reignited, the audio sounded as i remembered in classic mode, but apparently others pointed out new songs and I was confused what they were talking about lmao
The robotic background noises in the Aquaria Towers music is the same sample used in the music for the Discovery Channel show "How It's Made"!
Toasty and Gnorc Cove the same? What?
@@dapperfan44 He means the 6th homeworld not Gnorc Cove
@@bingxilao9086 ah yeah, true.
Also, i got to meet Copeland a couple years back and he admitted to being a Fake It Til You Make It kinda guy :) He's my favorite composer lol
I really enjoyed these two videos.
Both 2 and 3 are unfinished in their own unique ways.
If I ever make a video game, stuff like this is why I'm not going to rush my game for to meet a holiday deadline.
dank af memes nigga good idea if companies rush you just bring out a demo version keeps em quiet
Really? I never thought about that.
dank af memes nigga yeah it's what my friend does
Exactly!
I wish Lost Fleet kept the original theme in GH. That song fits it better than it did with Super Bonus Round.
You can also find a lot of Samples on Spectrasonics "Metamorphosis", "Bizarre Guitar", "Heart of Africa/Asia". Many of the same Samples were also used in the Silent Hill Games , Ratchet & Clank and many many more. I really enjoyed your Video :)
ive always played the pal platinum version but i wish i had the extra music tracks that the american version had, still an amazing soundtrack
In fact, the Sunrise Spring Home theme got the rhythm and flavor of the Artisans world in Spyro 1
that soundtrack 8:53 similar version used all early demos
Fairly recently (a few years ago) the original song of Lost Fleet was found in a Prototype of the game
Seashell Shore, And Midnight Mountain's Theme Were Always The Best To Me.
Really great video, love stuff like this, especially about spyro!
All I know about the Gulp’s Overlook riff is that the Spyro Soundfont calls it the “Manhattan Chase”
I was honestly shocked when I made this video that not a single video existed on this topic. I knew it was niche, just not that niche lol.
Now I'm concerned about the Reignited Trilogy, I will be so pissed if they do not use the Greatest Hits Soundtrack for 3.
This is going to be interesting when the remaster comes out. If they are going to go with the original tracks or the "replaced" tracks.
Oh hey "Skelos Badlands", also known as the techno drop in Rayman 2's "Top of the World".
Cynn I watch a somewhat disturbing number of behind the scenes videos for spyro lmao
This video explains the Skelos Badlands sounds in Little Busters visual novel!
So I have the 1.0 version
Low key interesting.
I hate what they did here in the NTSC original version of Spyro 3, reusing the Sunrise Springs homeworld theme for the Sorceress battle music, it doesn't sound like battle music at all, in the original PAL version, they reuse Spike's battle theme for the Sorceress battle, that is battle music and makes more sense, in the Greatest Hits version, they fixed the Sorceress' battle theme, also, the Greatest Hits version got updated with a few more bug fixes for the Collector's Edition Boxset of The Original Spyro Trilogy, I got that boxset currently, I got it differently and more lucky, though I need to fix it a bit since Spyro The Dragon's case is broken and Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage has a scratch that makes the second Speedway in Autumn Plains unplayable, well, I actually don't know if it is unplayable as I didn't wait for it to load since it was taking too long, and the cardboard box cover is ripped a bit, now, I don't wanna replace the first game's case unless I figure out how to get the spine cover out, I already figured out how to get the back cover and inside cover out, but still, I just need to fix it a bit, anyway, I got it for Christmas at a pawn shop for $30.00 brand new, the normal way to get the Collector's Edition Boxset is on Amazon either used for $100.00 or brand new for $500.00
Actually, in the PAL version, 'Sorcereress's Lair' has the same music as 'Spike's Arena'.
It would be cool if lost fleet looks like a ice stage like in super bonus round.
i've recently discovered that there were more soundtracks
Makes me wonder if the trilogy is to be remade, will those missing tracks be brought back and remastered?
Gotta say, I am just the tiniest bit disappointed in Copeland when I heard the Distorted Reality-samples; not for the percussions and SFX, those are implemented neatly, but the ambience for the hubworlds in Spyro 2 are essentially the Luminize-track cut up and altered to become the three tracks. He's chosen well, and the ambience fits greatly to the seasons, but I must admit I thought he composed the original thing himself. I know he's never been the biggest audio/synth-engineer, but still.
The Half-Life series had a similar thing of using tons of samples to design its soundtrack.
What was that video called?
Cynn "Spyro 3: Year of the Dragon - Possible Glitch??" Sorry for the late answer, TH-cam didn't send me the notification. =\
Cynn It sounds like the credits music...I'm not sure.
Cynn Wow I see.
It's so great to know that I'm not insane and the tracks are indeed different! But... why though? Why was this done?
Wow, 8 tracks? I knew about the final boss but damn
Here’s what I think is better for each level:
Evening Lake -> Greatest Hits
Sorceress -> PAL (Spike’s Arena)
Lost Fleet -> Black Label
Enchanted Towers Skatepark -> Either
Dino Mines -> Black Label
Crystal Islands -> Either
Haunted Tomb -> Either
Every Speedway -> Greatest Hits
Completely agree. Though to me, Greatest Hits' Crystal Islands is a must, but yeah
I grew up the with 1.0 tracks and personally i feel that the 1.0 tracks feel more better for the levels.
The version that Ive played throughout my life uses some of the same tracks for different levels, it seemed lazy, until I discovered other versions have more tracks? Its definitely the most interesting soundtrack for this alone!
The super bonus level really disappointed me 😩
You should do a video of why High Caves in Spyro 1 has a different song i the PAL version
I actually didn't know this was a thing! I'm gonna do some research and then get back to you.
Sweeet
i'm curious about the demo disk thing. a video on that would be cool.
I have the original 1.0 version of Spyro 3.
Huh. SO according to this I own the 1.0 version. Is there a difference between PAL and NTSC versions?
As far as 1.0 goes, the PAL and NTSC versions are virtually identical (considering neither can achieve 60/50fps). The NTSC 1.1 Greatest Hits version fixes all the missing music, but the PAL Platinum (the 1.1 released in EU) still has the issue of Evening Lake and the final boss playing the wrong music. It remains unfixed to this day on PAL versions. The 1.1 of PAL fixes the missing music otherwise, though.
So the US 1.1 version would be the current best version to recommend to people who want to play it.
Very much so. Not as many game breaking bugs, and all the music is where it should be.
I don't have the Greatest Hit's Version I have the Spyro Collector's Edition
.... I had the collector edition with all three games inside and all the songs are correct... None are missing... wtf ? xD
The collector edition uses the 1.1 version
I was lucky I got the Greatest Hits version
6:47
Grown up playing the PAL 1.0 version by the looks of things lol
I have to admit I always found Spyro 3's design to be lacking compared to the first two games. In Spyro 2 I used to like the whole 'level complete' display but the 3rd game just seemed dull in comparison.
Don't get me wrong I love all the original games
I never knew about these additional music tracks, honestly they feel way out of place to me given that I grew up with the original version.
Honestly, I wonder how Reignited fixes a lot of these tracks if at all.
It goes off of the greatest hits versions, which is good since imo those are the definative versions. An exception is that in Enchanted Towers they still used the Sgt. Bird music, but with a different, more sleepy arrangement.
I wonder why no one is questioning the unused track in Spyro 2 Idol Springs/Fractured Hills.
Probably because that was the only instance of reused music in that game. I'm thinking in that case, it was a deliberate choice.
RyanX1231 or the track in the game that could have been used for on or the other had a bad master
is there a probability that EU version and US version is different?... I have EU version and i know all of these sounds
uhh... nevermind i just finnished the video...
Funny, I've been playing on an emulator the whole time and couldn't tell the difference
I much prefer the 1.0 scores (though it could be due to bias).
am I the only one who likes most of the 1.0 songs better? (except the songs that replaced sunrise springs’s resuses)
I think I found the trailer you were looking for - th-cam.com/video/Q_2b261h9H4/w-d-xo.html
Spyro 2 had a generic ass sound track . This only confirms my damn hunch .
