    The Severan Dominate is an excellent example of a secessionist state within the imperium of man, a mini empire created by one persons ambition and greed! willing to join hands with xeno scum like the dark eldar and use means even chaos cultists may frown at to secure power!

    Secession within the Imperium may sound appealing at first for the people, but the sad truth is that these worlds will fall prey to the hostile forces of the Galaxy. The Orks and Tyranids won’t care for them and see this as a weak part of humanity that could be beaten and eaten easily, and Chaos will have a easy time corrupting or conquering these secessionist states, but in truth the Imperium will make you an example and purge you with such force that you will begged for the Emperor Mercy.

    It's surprising to me to see a secessionist actually have much lore since I'd consider them short lived at and target practice for the Guard at worst. So hearing one of these movements actually have lore and being this successful is incredibly surprising and intriguing.

    • @Jsay18
      @Jsay18 2 ปีที่แล้ว +25

      "Target Practice" don't make me laugh. The Imperial Guard Regiment structure doesn't have the numbers to conduct continent-wide fronts, let alone across multiple planets. The only books that got a somewhat close numbers to reality are the Vraks books, and there the Kriegers, instead of a "Winning WW1 Army" they act like its 1914 and the war will be over by Christmas, throwing men into massed machinegun fire when there are much better ways to break trench systems than throwing bodies.
      No matter your argument, if you wish to, GW has almost always failed at actual scale other than "BEEG GALAXY, 3 MILLION PLANETS" and make you fill in the blanks. Stated standard numbers for a Imperial guard regiment is 9,000 - 20,000. That is on average smaller than a modern American Division, we had 90 of those during WW2 with a third of our Contemporary population, AND we were able to staff our entire industry to support our allies too. And planets only send these regiments out almost one at a time? I thought this was an Empire of up to 40 Quintillion Humans, not a Nation of a mere 300 Million?

    • @genericpersonx333
      @genericpersonx333 2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Well, in fairness, there is a plothole of sorts which is where is the Ordo Xenos of the Inquisition? Hax could have, in theory, just rung up the Ordo, the one specifically tasked with purging Humans collaborating with Xenos against the interests of the Imperium, to investigate and prove Severan XIII was working with the Eldar. A single inquisitor should have had no issue dealing with Severan, but they were conveniently left out of the story.
      Put another way, the writers had to contrive a little to let Severan work as a story.

    • @robertnelson9599

    My personal belief is that the Imperium is dealing with SEVERAL Severan Dominates in any one time. Like wasn't this lore mostly just to help flesh out the Calixis Sector where a lot of the 40k RPGs are set?

    • @Motleydoll123
      @Motleydoll123 2 ปีที่แล้ว +28

      The calixis sector and its surrounding areas make up the bulk of the 40k rpg, mainly due to it being an out of the way and not paticularly focused on bit of lore. The rpgs take place in the calixis sector(dark heresy), the koronus expanse(rogue trader) the Jericho reach(deathwatch), the screaming vortex(some parts of black crusade), the spinward front(only war), and the Askellon sector(dark heresy 2nd edition). The spinward front is the small part of the periphery of the calixis sector where the dominate have their power base and are facing their troubles, but it might be phesable to assume dominate forces are likely poking their heads into the other regions for potential allies or resources they can use, with potentially less success given the presence of space marines, chaos, rogue traders, the inquisition, and the general menagerie of hostile xenos.

    @TheAleatoriorandom ปีที่แล้ว +21

    A non chaos, non imperial human faction! I relly loved them when I read the only war mannual for how unique they are in this aspect. Great video!
    I love how instead of using comissars (Those were to loyal to the empire and had to be killed) they use their "legatus", that inspire the troops with great speeches and the big promises of freedom and a better tomorrow given by Severan indstead of fear and threath of execution. It's another point where Severan is full of bs, it's not like he dislikes the methods of the comissars, it's just that they were in his way and had to be replaced. And to built up his image of benevolent saviour he actually put more benevolent (in theory at least) substitutes that make him look better and the Imperium look worse (Not that the Imperium needs a ton of help with that one). I also adore how the citizens of the Dominate are really faithful to the Emperor, indsted of being turned to chaos Severan simoky convinced them of the Lords of Terra being corrupt and ignoring the Empero's will, unlike good old Severus the actually obsvious good guy you know?

    Hey Arch! Did you know that the song *Bullet with Butterfly Wings* is actually about a game of Warhammer between the Skaven and the Vampire Counts?
    The first line of the song talks about Vampires
    Then the chorus is: "Despite all my rage I am still just a Rat in a cage"
    Then the song references being a piece on a game board...
    I mean do they have to spell it out for you ;)

    After 10,000 years I'd expect more secessions in the Imperium, and not just the kind cause by "lol Chaos did it" That Terra Nova Interregnum could've been an interesting bit to expand on as 2 separate governments popped up claiming themselves the true inheritors of the Emperors will could've made for interesting stories as well as even potentially new armies.

    • @Demicleas
      @Demicleas ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Well Vietnam itself irl was a adventure and grimdark. Heck you can even have a 40k version of a Rambo 2 plot were the catachan jungle fighters are sent to rescue some of of there captured comrades while the severen dominate try to "convince" them to defect or something. What would fallow would be a harrowing journey of loss and sacrifice as both sides attempt to secure the prisoners to further there efforts whatever they might be.

    Yeah I made the origins for my chaos controlled part of space originate from a successionist movement, originally with lofty goals in mind. They were aided by chaos, before eventually being replaced by chaos over the course of the military campaigns to succeed from the imperium. The gay rift that spilt the galaxy in two created a warp storm which waxes and wanes in a overall semi-predictable pattern (For a warp storm) every two or three decades. haven't really fully finalized the star system but I was thinking that it maybe consists of 29-37 star systems. Was gonna make it apart of a narrative campaign on the table top, but alas my friends are all gone. No one to play 40k with anymore lol.

    The inspiration for most of the well organized secession attempts like Severance and Rophonana. Go back to the years of the Hersey. When many Imperial worlds and sub sectors seceded in order to remain free of the Warmasters forces. Thinking or maybe told by the traitors, that the Hersey was already over, the EoM was dead and the Warmaster was the new EoM. Basically succeeding to remain loyal to EoM Imperium and his Great Crusade. Over the following centuries and Millenia after the Hersey. These independent worlds/states, would eventually rejoin the Imperium. Many would have special rights not allowed most of the worlds/sub sectors of the Imperium, think Ultramar. But such Independent Human nation states didn't exist beyond 32nd millennium. Unfortunately knowledge of said states seem to have survived all the way into the 41st millennium, inspiring rich and ambitious fools to believe that some how they would succeeded when no one else had.
