Don't you hate it when you're transforming into a swan and your bf is doing pirouettes with the guy that cursed you Lol joking, stunning performance! Hope I get the chance to see this ballet live, it's so powerful!
I wish the dancers would have had more emotions. They danced beautifully but they didn’t seem to be really into their character. Odette doesn’t seem sad, the prince doesn’t seem desperate, and the wizard didn’t seem happy.
I agree, too mechanical, here is a fragment of the same choreography but different part danced by Elizabeth Platel from Paris Opera and my favorite dancer from Bolshoi, just look at his expression.. He is wonderful especially that Rudi's choreography is always rather cold th-cam.com/video/5PJK5tqhO30/w-d-xo.html
I feel like french people aren't as expressive in their work as russians or italians. I know french people tend to seem cold and unemotional from my experience, that's just how they are
Holy carp, I'm so stoked to see this clip. When I was 15 I was a supernumerary in Paris Opera Ballet's Swan Lake w/ Nureyev and Sylvie Guillem. I was on the wire flying up after Odette "disappears" upstage. I got to wear the most amazingly beautiful costume. I have always wondered what it looked like from the audience. Gossebumps.
Lots of comments about expression. Someone is pointing out that the emotions are shown through dance and not facial expression. To be able project close ups in ballet or opera is quite a new thing. The technology was not available 200 years ago. Anyone who was not sitting in front row, had to rely on the body expression and it is still true now if you go to see ballet or opera in the theater ( now after covid).
Wow, the choreography didn't match the scene at all. The dance at the beginning look like 3 friends frolicking together than an emotional final fight with the villain. I don't know if this was intended or not but the choreography made it seems Siegfried and Rothbart were a lot more intimate than Odette to Siegfried. Not that I minded much, but feels more homoerotic than usual play.
Nanna Leifa something about the way they hold each other...yeah, a touch homoerotic. I mean, I’m no stickler for that sort of thing, make it homoerotic in a ballet if that’s what works but seeing as this is Siegfried and Rothbart it definitely seems unintentional, and therefore kinda awkward.
I don't know......the choreography and the dancer's expressions seemed so mechanical, especially compared to Tchaikovsky's expressive and romantic score
Naomiyaki I totally agree. Here is the REAL Version danced and choreographed by Rudolf Noureïev.... around 1966. th-cam.com/video/sDbMK91BJ_E/w-d-xo.html please, compare ! Rudolf and Dame Margot Fonteyn were ONE, very expressive, the technique was not the same but...Watch their work, how Rudolf is drowning...
I'd recommend finding a longer video of this ending sequence. I would say that the choreography between the three of them and the "fight" with Wolfgang is kind of stiff and unimaginative, but the dance between Siegfried and Odette leading up to this is full of emotion and beautifully danced. Not to mention the intricacies of the corps is fantastic, too.
Thank you so much for sharing. I like the staging very much and the effect at the end, with the swan 🦢 ascending to heaven. But overall, this rendition left me untouched... Maybe its just me, but it wasn‘t as magical as usual... Even small companies like Danish Ballet have more expressionate dancers. I have watched many Paris Opera ballet performances, but there was only one performance of La Bayadere with Sylvi Guillem as Nikiya that really moved me. Is it just me? 🤔
I have a ballerina friend, quite a beautiful, well known dancer, who had to stop her career. When she went (?) 'en pointe' and would spin on one toe, she would release violent farts, even heard over the orchestra. She would be in tears, but the public would be hysterically laughing. So sad and awful for her.

Basically, Nureyev took Odette out of the finale until the very end. Throughout the ballet, Nureyev made it a showcase for himself. I'm sorry people still use this weird choreography.
Chemistry lacking here. Maybe they had an argument off stage. Nowt will beat Nureyev and Fonteyn who told the story with such expression and danced so beautifully together.
Bighin Giulio Renzo. 😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊

I was really taken back into the story ...but I didn't get the ending of this dance ...didn't Odette become free from her curse ? I seem to have forgotten and don't remember clearly could someone add to this please ..❤ great performance very emotional ❤
Watch the full ballet at bit.ly/Tchaikovsky_SwanLake_Nureyev ! Absolutely amazing 😍🎼
Oh how I wish I could solve my conflicts by dancing a perfectly choreographed ballet
They very much did not solve their conflicts, though. It's important to note that things did not work out in the end.

Just came here after watching the masterpiece of Black Swan, 2010, which built a perspective behind the eyes of the ballerina. Sublime!
This is a perfect piece of art! Iam never tired of seeing it again nas again!!!!!
Prince Siegfried: I want to kill you! fight me!
Rothbart: Fight is good, but what about dance, bro?
Prince Siegfried: yea! dance is better.
I love that moment when the prince jumps into Rothbart's arms and he spins him around 😂
Wow, the choreography didn't match the scene at all. The dance at the beginning look like 3 friends frolicking together than an emotional final fight with the villain.

I think your first three words say it all.
Everybody loves to compere the famous dancers with the beautiful music. The beautiful music came first.
Even Twilight puts more emotion in their performances...
their muscles feel like they are on fire. If I was on fire, I personally could not smile/ act worried
Swan lake and complete Russian music is my favorite thing on earth, this is not what Tchaikovsky intended to do.

Well, I almost peed my pants just by reading it... I can only imagine the chaos of an audience that hears it
Well, thats one messy opera house.
Might as well add sailors and hos into the audience to enhance low quality-ness

Чайковский - великий Русский композитор на всё времена.
Is it weird that I see Von Rothbart's perspective and think he is actually good and Siegfried is actually taking advantage of Odette the entire time?

I'm not a ballet expert or anything but i really hope the prince, act more forceful or maybe even to lead odette on stage not for him to be leaded.
At least they leave all the music in there unlike the Kirov performance on TH-cam which skips music in the finale which I hate
