Positive Heroism focus vs Collectivist Propaganda is quite a Machiavellian decision. The question is: Is it better to be feared(Rokossovsky) than loved(+10 stability)?
@@gvdl7893 He's talking about the focuses. Collectivist Propaganda gives stability while Positive Heroism allows you to assign Rokosovvsky. Although you spare Rokossovsky in the Great Purge trials, you can't assign him until you complete the Positive Heroism focus. The stability guy (Kalinin) has nothing to do with this. Positive Heroism gives bonuses to tanks via Rokossovsky and research speed, making it the ideal go-to if you want to rush for the best tanks, usually resulting in you curb-stomping AI Germany with Heavy 3s and modern tanks in 41/42. Collectivist Propaganda mostly gives industry bonuses, which as the Soviets if you min-max well, you shouldn't be struggling with.
When alex first blew up on YT was the hoi4 challenges - repressing the memories of the 'Massive Battles!' on ultimate epic battle simulator 😂. I'm glad hoi4 worked out, its waay better
Taking inspiration from Bokoen and ISP: a "Rats Only" challenge might be hilarious. 1 Infantry unit in the divisions, and just spamming them out. I tried to attempt it with the USSR, but I chickened out at the last minute because I sunk so much time into building up industry and didn't want to immediately die
Alex just a tip for what you could have done, If you had produced the heavy 1's as you did but then converted them into heavy tank destroyer 2's you would have been able to have more divisions with better stats. Also TD battalions require less tanks than normal tanks and are cheaper.
i know you will do it anyway and I've been fooled into boosting engagement, but you should do a disaster save every day for not just 1 week, but 2 weeks

Challenge: As the soviets win against the Germans with 4 infantry template and try to pump out as much divisions as possible. I’ll call it the German quality vs Soviet quantity Edit:Challenge , try not to get political in the comment section
This seems like a good co-op game to do with somebody who loves either industry or micro, so that you can focus on the big picture or a particular front.
Imagine having KV-1 researched but still keep building T-35 (which have barely any armor). Also going Tank only, and then not get the Tank Genius. -200 IQ play
After seeing this video (I watched about 1/4 of it then) and a reddit post of someone beating this challenge inspired by this video (I didnt read theirs strats) I decided to give it my own rambler try. I too wasnt minmaxing, but I play as Soviets a lot, so I have quite a lot of experience I would say. I decided to go with 40w, heavy 2, mechanized and heavy anti air (no planes), pretty much a classic template. By the start of the war I had 48 of them with 10000 deficit in tanks and 10000 deficit in mechanized (guess I didnt manage my economy well enough), but overall I had them reasonably supplied. My initial line was close to the border, pretty much like yours, but with center a bit back, behind rivers with forests and swamps. I didnt build any forts. As for doctrine, I went with mobile warfare (ironic for tanks that move 5kmh), I also had Rokossowski as armour advisor. My initial line didnt hold for very long, but it did put up a fight and axis losses were skyrocketing, so instead of going to another line I just gave my units a frontline, so they would fight everywhere. Despite losses, axis still were pushing me back. I didnt micro much, only some units that were about to get cut off. Finally the line stabilized pretty much on a Dvina-Dnieper river line (the big one you pointed out), except I still had Kiev and also a big salient around Minsk. Axis were now bashing their heads against my finalized Iron Curtain. I had maybe 250k losses (most of them because two of my 48 units got encircled and the beginning), when they were losing milions. In mid 1942, when I finally made enough tanks to supply everyone, I made a big push, getting them beyond initial border. Then I stopped to replace losses during the winter, and attacked again in May 1943, without stopping till the end of the war in march 1944. I had the most warscore, so thanks to my Tank Iron Curtain, I made Country Iron Curtain with puppets. It was fun, and I think you will get it done on the second try. Just go with Positive Heroism, ignore political soviet tree (you get claims from Ribbentrop-Molotov anyway), and take Mobile Warfare for big bonuses for tanks. As for airforce, up to you, I think its better to get anti air instead, but who knows. This would be a good hoi4 achievement actually, Iron Curtain
@@ДмитроПрищепа-д3я No forts. They would bomb them to the ground unless I also build airforce or anti air. And both of them would take my research time and industrial capacity. Maybe it would be worth it actually, having stationary aa or airforce and forts for a few less tank divisions
@@hopin8krzys they won't if you have a functioning air force. And you really don't need that much to cuck ai out of air superiority. Usually 2k fighters and cas do the job just fine. I haven't ever built AA as USSR and had no problems holding the germans on the border for a whole year before my tanks get ready.
A Tip for you Alex Next time if you want to make 20width tank division you should put 6tanks and 4motorized in them production will be easier to manage and the Division will be more effective hope this helps you out a bit cheers
You may should have built heavy-aa with basic infantery. They have enough amor, are cheaper and kill CAS, which was you achilles heel. But fun to watch. Guessing strategies to improve is more entertaining than you might think
Managed to hold it but for 6 months only, D-day was happening, Italy was invaded as well. Probably could have worked if you defended better in the beginning

Hi Alex! What would You say for replied this challenge, but little different? I'm curious the results, if: 1. At the start You will build military factories. As USSR You have pretty nice number of civs, but we saw, how much production You need to build strong army with heavy tank only. 2. You will send a attache to China for unlimited army XP - without that it is hard to build some good templates. 3. You will choose superior firepower, not grand battleplan - SF has a good modifier for defense and organization too, but in my opinion it is mutch better, if You wanna countre-attack.. Good luck, heavy tanks are not in my flavour, but I'm enjoy every test games :)
problems were you did need to start behind the river line with forts everywhere but a couple tiles to create free encirclements safely behind your river. You also really do need air and you also did need more trucks than tanks in your units so you could have been fully equipped at the start then modify the template to have more heavies as able. Also you didnt seem to create a spy agency to nullify the german planning bonus.
if i were in your shoes i'd've made 2 templates, one for spamming, one for poorly equipping. with the original few you made you could've made 10x the divisions and had a shitty but filled iron curtain, soviet style.
1 tip Alex, when you lend lease a nation equipment make sure you add a monthly delivery or you dont get army XP (because hoi4 is a janky ass game). So if you send 10000 guns once + 1 support equipment a month you'll start raking in that sweet sweet XP.
You should do a video where you build a massive Soviet Union Navy, defeat the Axis and then go defeat the Allies!!!!! Continue to love watching your videos.
Alex, a quick way of selecting your whole army (at the beginning of the game) is shift+click on the "unassigned units" icon on the top of your screen. No need to scroll around the map to select your units 😋
the best iron wall strategy is to hide behind a river for the entire game and wait for the allies to d-day and hopefully be able to push through your own defense in the river you defended yourself with in the first place
Play Alien Isolation, cut in a similar way to SovietWomble! Always enjoy seeing my favourite TH-camrs play that for the spooks! Especially as it's coming up to Halloween!
"Trenches for my tanks is dumb" Russia in WW2 effectively did this, they buried them so only the turret was above the surface to use as fixed positions and it worked really really well
I have played several games as soviets. My best strategy is to build level 8 forts all along that giant river down to the black sea. AI stops there. And you can break through at the top
Honestly Germany (both in HoI and IRL) were designed to counter a static defense, and crush a slow force Holding them the way you tried would be massive (also not building the KV-1 was a massive screwup)
I tried something like this and it worked out pretty well lol, just took a while and I was watching youtube while Germans were suiciding. A few things I think could have worked better - don't take Lithuania, leave it alone for shorter frontline, go for the kv-1, as the first heavy is like medium tank 2 or something, not that great, you only need horses for the meat, as trucks are way faster than heavies, but horses are also faster lol, start with 20w divisions of course, but have like - 1 heavy (might need 2 maybe I don't remember how much was needed for AI to not pen), 2 heavy spg's, 1 anti air heavy, and just don't produce any air (though I'm not sure about this, either that or just build fighters), superior fire power doctrine works well because mobility is going to be 1 kmh anyway lol. With this setup AI can't pen and your soft attack just obliterates them. Go for 40w later on of course, just double the number of each heavy battalion, and then, when Germans don't have enough equipment, just order AI attack along the whole frontline and watch them roll into Berlin (just watch out for the mountains in Balkans lol) Anyway I'm mostly writing this comment to help out with the algo lol

Feared is most efficient, Loved will never last long enough to accomplish what must be done

Why not just make a safety save? So you can always revert to before pumping out a million divisions

Did you build forts on your defensive lines? Usually 4 forts on every tile can stop the germans completely.

Psotive Heroism is King. You get extra research speed, a tank adviser and 3% recruitable population.
