I mean from the books, magazines and articles online ive read for decades, the arbor knot or a similar variation is widely regarded as the "proper" way for spinning reels. To be honest what you get to work is fine. I personally run a little fabric medical tape with a quick hit 3m spray adhesive on the spool only not on the tape😂. Tape gives the line friction and allows your knot to sinch tighter. Dont forget line lube or to wet your line for a tighter sinch. (Note you tape the spool before adding line, its ok to add some though on the line once you have a few wraps around it) another protip, cast your pole as far as you can, pull out 10 more feet and tape the line on the spool. If you backlash or birdnest, it only affected the line past the tape. Use gorrila tape or a water proof tape for this since the area isnt as protected from water. Edit: Thanks for the 👍
I use the sticker that on the spool of line when you buy one.... it works great...tuck tape would work too.... that way my casts are seamless.... make sure your always have enough line on your reel though
This is a great way to tie the knot and to be truthful I have always used the other style knot and just spooled my line on and it would lay around the knot and eventually covering it and you would never see it and no issues either. I will have to try this knot and thanks for sharing this with us!
If the fish is that strong, all that's gonna happen is you most likely break the rod. Like you said, use more line and get more experience with the drag.
Ive never even heard of tying the line to the reel. Just wrap it around a few times and wind it up, It's not going anywhere. If you allow the fish to take the full spool, 😂
Yeah ngl i use the first knot from shoe tying and do it twice because if a fish gets me that low most likely it’s gonna spool me regardless of the knot
I tie it off the spool just like you tie your shoe except you go threw the loop twice and she holds nicely, the knot is nice and small, im sure youd run into some issues ocean fishin but it works for lakes and rivers nicely😌
Haven’t seen one of videos in years. Randomly remembered your channel and I’m glad to see how you’ve grown, both the channel and as a great guy! Bummer about the crabs, next time though!
I make a Loop at the end,...and pull the Main Line through the Loop,...then place the Line on the Spool in such a fashion that when "Spooling" the line on, it causes the line to "Synch" onto the Spool,...has worked quite well for me for some 50 years of fishing! My method enables the line to lay even 'flatter' than this method!
Thank you for posting this and also making it short and quickly to learn I had a little trouble at first but after watching it you’re a clip a few times I was able to do it on my 3rd try🎉
If a fish runs your whole reel out of line, you weren't going to catch that fish anyway and your line will snap at whatever knot you had tied around the reel. Because if your line wasn't going to snap no matter what, then you should have just reeled the damn fish in.@@jasondadudetoo4176
Arbor knot is much simpler, tried and true, even more important on conventional reels AND last but most - has one purpose - attaching line to the spool/arbor!
On my spinning reels I do this same uni knot but I put a small piece of electrical tape on top of the knot to smooth out the lump. Spools perfectly every time!
Tying a loop in the line and then threading it over the spool allows it to be tightened when you reel the line on and leaves less of a knot sticking out and also is easily removed so you can change the line to another spool if necessary
Make a loop double overhand. Run line through loop, drop on spool, sinch. Make sure it's facing the right way and you'll know what I mean when you get to this step, reel. If you do it right it bites on itself. Low profile knot as well as easy to remove. Promise, give it a try, you'll enjoy this tie from then on, it's pretty easy to.
I make a 1 -2 inch no slip loop feed my main line through the loop then around the spool , as long as u put the loop on in the right direction it will tighten when pulled and never slip and the small knot lays flat not end for end on the spool , and it's really really easy to get it off if u want to change or replace your line
Maybe use an arbor knot…around the arbor of the reel…it’s just an overhand knot with a stopper knot on the tag end to prevent pull out until the first few wraps are on it. Also with the braid and leader trend a lot guys run mid line knots to attach the braid to a mono base layer, and then another knot for the leader, without the spool being very lumpy at all…
I just tie an overhand knot and engage reel and lightly crank and the line grabs the spool. I have caught 18, lb channel cat, 10lb stripper, 17lb Drum on light action rod reel with 6lb test and NEVER was close to being spooled in fresh water with over 50 years of fishing. Same with my baitcaster reel, 54"and 44" flat head catfish, stripers 10+lbs using my custom made jigging spoons and never came close to being spooled. Salt water gear is a different story.... When it is time to put new line on, I just pull and the knot slips, no nicking the spool trying to cut the line that is super tight to the spool. My .02.
Glad I seen this cuz I've always just rapped the line around the triangle tab thingy knowing I'm not gonna get a fish big enough to drag my line all the way out.
Overhand loop and pass through, but remember to tighten against the rotation or ot will just spin. I have found this to give the best line lay on the spool especially if you are casting long distances.
Just two overhand knots. Dont clip it close and wind on. No need to tape even. End of the day, if you are running your line so low that anything like this becomes an issue, you need to be refilling your spool sooner. We just over complicate so much its amazing.
I've always just used a slip knot lol honestly I think most ways will get the job done though it'll even out eventually. But also I've had some bait casters that have had a spot to hold a little knot on the spool, you could mod any reel with holes in the spool to do the same thing with a small thin file
I used to use a clove hitch style wrap and as long as there's a little tension, you have absolutely no knot but after a year or so and changing line on 20 reels, it was easier to tie a knot. But I just stick with the uni and after commercial and charter fishing for over 15 years, you can't tell that knot is even down there. Just tie it. It really doesn't matter.
Most spinning reals have a spot on the spool that has a catch point that binds the tail end of your new line and holds the line until you start loading the new line on your spool. No need for a knot 😎
