SO TRUE!!! Loved the rant. I have owned a 330ci for 12 years now and have fixed everything listed in the rant except the subframe issue, and over heating (Changed the expantion tank many times) still is the best car I have ever owned, Clutch lasted 193,000 miles and have never opened the gearbox or the engine. Oh yeah, I have never had understeer problems, turn the traction control off and adjust tire pressure if you want the back to slide out.

First 2 months of ownership: Dieselpump went out. 900€ (It took 4 months to see what was wrong with it) 6th month, after replacing the Dieselpump, engine support rubber went out. 100€ 9th month, crankshaft pulley broke, 150€ Now the engine has some problems with the injectors, ABS system, and high beam regulator. and i am NOT going to fix that too. Im selling the car and buying a Toyota Avensis 2.0 diesel. I would rather drive a dull car but keep my money than spend it all on, lets admit it, a way of transport.
I sold my E46 330i Touring Auto and bought a 2011 Focus ecoboost 1.6, remapped with 180HP. The performance is virtually the same as the BMW and roughly 70% less fuel consumption. The Ford is a better car in almost every respect.
Seriously comparing E46 to a 2011 car :D? E46 is a very reliable car if it was maintained properly. Of course you are prone to get more problems with higher mileage cars that have more options than a steering wheel and 4 wheels. E39 520D guy i highly doubt you had problems with injectors since they are mechanical. And with injection pump you probably had problems with the pump ECU itself failing not the whole pump. Could have just sent the ecu to be repaired and kept the costs down to 200-300€. Crankshaft pulley is also serviceable item because it absorbs vibrations from the crankshaft and the center piece is made of rubber but is often grossly neglected.
Oh really? Everything can oversteer or understeer depending on how it's driven. But my E46 330i touring, with front and rear alignment spot on with Eagle F1s was definitely much more eager to understeer.
