    Great job looks great! I have experience with using epoxy resins. The one you flood coat with is definitely a different type. Typically, designer flooring and countertop, you would use the coating epoxy. River table would use a casting epoxy.
    Garage / workshop floor paint typically is thinned out coating epoxy with pigment added into it. High end show room uses the coating epoxy and gives it that high gloss finish. The thinned out epoxy definitely don’t have the thickness to cover those fibres you were talking about, but more than good enough for garage and workshop floors

    have you considered a drywall sander for doing large areas? We moved into a 1940s house with solid plaster but years of assorted paint and wallpaper adhesive (and a fair bit of No More Nails for some reason). Huge range of grit sizes, 12" discs and the Henry connected straight to it so dust was minimal. It made short work of the walls and the downstairs floors to level off for laminate flooring. Well worth the £60 or so I paid for it in a Toolstation sale.

    Normally, the primer is also a notional dpm coat to provide a barrier against moisture affecting the top coats. Even though you may have laid a dpm under the slab, did you check the moisture content? Even new slabs that have been laid for 12 months or more often have a high moisture content.
    You would be wise not to go for a smooth floor as epoxy floors can become skating rinks due to liquids, condensation, dust etc This is further compounded by the use of polymer soiled footwear like trainers that seem to polish the floor in trafficked areas. I would have added a fine sand to the top coat to give a reliable non-slip surface. I have experience of the issues I raise on several projects where epoxy floor coatings have mistakenly been seen as a panacea to providing a smooth pretty hardwearing floor finish. The last problem epoxy floor had to be Blastrac'd and recoated with a non-slip finish because it had become dangerous.

  • @Giftedmike359

    Looks great. I’m thinking of the kingspan panels, do you think you could plasterboard inside if you fixed to a timber frame and add rockwool, or do you think that may cause condensation on the interior metal?

    • @TheRestorationCouple
      @TheRestorationCouple  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      if this was anything but a workshop I would just bond plasterboard straight to the inner skin, or over battens if needed for a service cavity.

    Could you help answer some questions for me.
    I have a new build house and garage and want to do the same.
    Double garbage
    So here are a few questions:
    1) do I need to self level?
    2) do I need to primer
    3) how much does the 5L cover? Basically do I need 10L or the 5L
    Thanks

      Guessing your UK based? The most readily available floor leveller is the mapei renovation screed at screwfix, it's a great all-rounder for around £18 a bag, you'd probably need between 5 and 10 bags depending on thickness. Don't forget primer too 👍✌️

      Depends how you heat it. If used often the floor will always retain a certain amount of ‘warmth’. Not sure I’d use it if it’s an office space though as it will always feel cooler than regular flooring types unless UFH.
