Perspective mode is a big help . Used it to find brush piles, fish ect . like they say ( look out in perspective) see things out there ,way better then forward view. Now one thing to try is lower your transducer deeper below the ice . I was able to pick of fish off with perspective mode . Run and gun
Perspective mode is a GAME CHANGER when you are fishing 15 feet or less. The images are insanely clear. You can see insane distances (80+ feet). Finding fish/rock piles/any structure, perspective mode is way better than forward WHEN you are in 15 FOW or less. I have yet to get perspective to do a nice job deeper than 15. But do you know what lake most of us fish in 15 FOW or less? ... you guessed it - LAKE WINNIPEG baby!
Hey Jay! Great video as always! I thought I'd would let you know that I went to Millers Meats on Monday and picked up a pouch of Catch N Cook! Can't wait to try it, just have to catch some fish first! lol
Like always the video is great and helpful, thanks! Nice pike and walleye you caught there! You have the best channel, can't wait till you get 100,000 subs!
That seems pretty evident that Lowrance has a significant delay compared to Garmin...Brandon had the fish up the hole before it moved on Lowrance... Super informational Jay and Brandon.
Its interesting seeing the differences between the two units and you do an awesome job at presenting both.... The technology is definitely intriguing and enticing, but, to me its just MORE stuff to haul out on to the ice...
Great video both awesome Units. I just got a lowrance tripleshot 7x and for the $400 I paid I absolutely love the thing. Easy to use and set up. Only downside I have found is they can be touchy with voltage, if you are a little low on volts they will act a little funky
I use Garmin, but I think Lowrance won. But I also think Lowrance had so many years to get this right and they did finally, that was after they screwed a lot of their fans out of MONEY with LiveSight. I like the competition between all three major fish finder companies I think they will all make each other better. I can't wait to see what hummingbird have coming out.
Something to know about livescope, the cable housing cracks right at the grommet on the transducer. It's a common problem. After 4 months mine cracked and now I'm waiting for a back ordered transducer. They were good about it warrenty wise but it cut my season short as far as electronics go. Summit makes a brace to protect against this problem, wish I knew that a few months ago!
From my experience on mississippi backwater ice fishing. Perspective mode works very well. Better than forward mode for locating fish. I believe this is due to the shallow water I am fishing. 3 to 8'.
Great video. Well done . Really appreciate the side by side. In my opinion delay is a huge factor. Delay drives me crazy when I'm fishing. I want to as close to real time as possible.
Jay, excellent video. Great comparison! The walleyes looked fun. I admire your entrepreneurial spirit with your business. Mentoring a younger guy....all great stuff!
Great video! I’ve found that when I’m searching at farther distance with my livescope if you increase the gain significantly you can pickup crappies 80-100ft. You’ll have some interference but the fish will standout in the clutter.
I have been wanting someone to do this. Thank you very much. I have Humminbird graphs and cant wait for that to come out. I will be waiting for your review on that.
Jay great video ! I got Active Target for my boat this fall and recently got the new Lowrance ice shuttle. I’m using my Lowrance head unit with the shuttle that came with a new AT module. The Live 9 has been updated but I did not update the module prior to using it this last trip. Should I update that new module ? For a better picture ?
Great video. However, I feel your angle on the Garmin Forward view is off. I have no problem picking up 8" perch 100ft away. When I see you click in the angle for the ducer it looked like it was facing down too much. Thanks for the info Jay!
Garmin is the clear winner.. Honestly I'm expecting a "hold my beer" moment any time from Garmin dropping some new hotness in response to all this new competition..
Im shopping for a Lowrance unit after situation change forces me to sell my Hummingbird head unit 😢 From what I see in the video seems like the Lowrance has about half a second delay VS the livescope and possibly vs the MegaLive as well. I guess its better than the Vexilar FLX-12 at a BIG lake vs a smaller local lake where I only need to know the contour Hate the situation I'm dealing with but it is ehat it is
If you have a more top of the line finder does it make the active scope less lag?? Like a higher end unit with maybe a better processor? Say a carbon or like that
Hey Jay, based on your videography expertise, for audio you use Tascam DR-10L (240cad). Is there something like that just around the 80cad mark you could recommend?
Great video I just started watching a few weeks ago, the first one I saw was your air fryer with Sam, you introduce Jayden, the next day we booked a trip next year in March, hopefully we will meet up
Great video, I am just wondering if the Lowrance unit was blocking the garmin unit on the forward view? Where they both the same distance below the ice? You might have to try a test with one of them removed from the view pattern.
Lowrance hands down on detail and brightness of targets. But I would use a different palate than the red one you picked. Could be the processor in the head unit causing the lag? Can’t go wrong with either one. Lowrance will be tweaking their firmware in the coming months to make it even better.
This is way out of my league but informative nonetheless, great comparison and feedback...... I just purchased my first flasher and learning how to dial it in!!! 80,000 subs and climbing 🧗♂️ fast...... please a few more ice 🧊 fishing 🎣 vids b4 the season ends ...... 🤜🏽
Great side by side review of both systems. If it were my money today, I'd have to plop down the bucks for the Garmin. That said, and you're spot on with this Jay, an update or two and the Lowrance might just take it over the Garmin. Just as a note on the interference, depending on the power each unit is putting out, a separation of 10-15' would likely solve that issue and even on open water between boats I really don't see that being a cause for concern if you are thinking of investing in the Lowrance.
When is the next batch of catch and cook coming out? Both of these units are great. If they told you what lure to use I still couldn't catch a 🐟. Well, maybe a small perch
I think the Garmin wins just because of the delay time on the other one while jigging. Seeing the fish's reaction to the moving hook is really important
That's the mega 360 but it's not live imaging like livescope and active target. Hummingbird's version will be called Mega Live but it won't be out until a few months from now. I believe it was suppose to come out this month but it got pushed back.
Jay quit being nice we need to know your opinion on which one is better personally I’m gonna go with garmin but I can’t afford either so I need your opinion
The gpsmap series from garmin does allow screen recording, I’ve found that the gpsmaps seem a little more clear as well for livescope, probably just the higher resolution screens on the gpsmap series from garmin. Still amazing tech from both companies. Big fan of the perspective mode on garmin
Nice work Jay. One thing that that seems to affect range on livescope is voltage. At 16v seems cleaner and easier to pick out 12inch kokanee well over 100ft. Later in the day below 14v gets less crisp. Your unit was at 12.2v during the test. Just my impressions this season.
Active Target is a bit more sensitive it seems although with a bit of a delay. Pretty impressed with the Lowrance tech with it being a couple of years behind with Garmin having held all the patents to that sort of tech and blocking other manufactures from developing live sonar for some time. Looks quite similar in many regards, i guess Lowrance got a peek under the hood of Panpotix/Livescope when Garmin lost that lawsuit to Navico and were forced to share patents. Livescope is def more refined but that's not surprising with Garmin being a couple of years ahead of Lowrance. Will be interesting to see the Humminbird version. Thanks for a great video Jay.
I kept confusing which one you were talking about during this clip. You referred to them as Livescope/Active Target, but the labels on the screen say Garmin/Lowrance. Not everyone watches sober, you crazy Canucks!
I had my livescope and my marcum lx5 side by side this past weekend. There is a delay with livescope too. That extra delay with the low range would drive me nuts. I love my livescope but for searching the small flasher is easier...also easier when my son is playing with the “fish tv” as he likes to call the livescope.
the delay on Lowrance is unacceptable. You had three cranks on the reel before the Lowrance screen showed the fish strike. This is not Memorex. We want it as live as possible. So you have to move around a little more with Garmin because the range is about third less.
In general, the TI units are faster in response to inputs. This is seen when quickly switching between sonar, downscan, chart, and split screens th-cam.com/users/postUgkxeAxH15LxhjGlg5-CRYqjTGTEH0tbY4vk recommend The Hook units will show some lag on button pushes and screen switching. The big ticket item though is maps. If you install a mapping card such as Navionics or the free C-Map Genesis which has a lot of map detail, then moving around the map with the cursor or when running down the lake can lag significantly on the Hook units, but is seamless with the TI units.
Not a fan of the Lowrance at all. Garmin has so much better definition and accuracy. Also way less interference. Way too much glitching and I can’t stand the circle from the Lowrance
Hummingbirds mega live imaging is coming soon , so many graph options I can’t afford lol
I'm from the future lol. Mega live sucks
Can’t afford either lol but the garmin is clearly more crisp and has less of a delay
Best fishing TH-cam channel, period. Full stop. Thank you Jay
❤️❤️❤️❤️

You should be able to adjust the ping speed on the Lawrence to correct the on screen delay. Open water around kenora by Easter weekend. Think positive
Great video both awesome Units. I just got a lowrance tripleshot 7x and for the $400 I paid I absolutely love the thing. Easy to use and set up. Only downside I have found is they can be touchy with voltage, if you are a little low on volts they will act a little funky

Great Video Jay thanks for the honesty. When you don't know, you're humble enough to say that vice guess. Keep up the GREAT work.

I'll work on it next year! Thanks!
What where the settings you used for your active target?
Hey jay what brand peach glow 316 lures u buy

What happened to catching that fish ( real quick ) lol great info as always
Rumor has it garmins coming out with a new livescope in late September

The Garman has better detail. You guys rocked those walley!
is the distance just for forward mode or would it also effect you in bottom mode fishing 100 feet of water
Great video, I am just wondering if the Lowrance unit was blocking the garmin unit on the forward view? Where they both the same distance below the ice? You might have to try a test with one of them removed from the view pattern.

I bought a Lowramce this past summer. Never again. One of the most over marketed and underperforming units I've used.
Sorry to hear that! Thanks for sharing.
Lowrance hands down on detail and brightness of targets. But I would use a different palate than the red one you picked.
Could be the processor in the head unit causing the lag?
Can’t go wrong with either one. Lowrance will be tweaking their firmware in the coming months to make it even better.
For sure! Thanks!
Hey Jay, if you had one pole for livescope both icefishing and openwater (on a boat). What would you recommend ?
That pike was awesome!
Thanks!

Did you fastforward your self while explaining at the begining?
Turn the gain up on the Garmin and you will easily see the target at 70ft. All gains aren't made equal.
I tried messing around with gain. A lot of my tinkering wasn't included on the video. Active target was still the winner at distance.
@@JaySiemens Did you mess with the noise reject also? Seemed in the video like you turned it off on the Lowrance and not on the Garmin
I wonder if it has more to do with the narrower cone angle providing better resolution at a distance?
Great side by side review of both systems. If it were my money today, I'd have to plop down the bucks for the Garmin. Lowrance has a noise reduction knob that you can tweak and perhaps the annoying sonar pulse from the garmin won't be as noticable.
Good to know! Thanks!
I see the Garmin UHD 73cv on Amazon for $650, but that is without the transducer. Did prices go up that much in 3 months?
