Thanks a lot for that perfect tutorial.... For the joke, I was waiting for my replacement LCD screen, and had a look on your video for the "disassembling" part, so I installed this metal part that forced you to take out back the LCD (at 49':00")... Well this metalic part was already assembled on the LCD I received !
For the sharing experience, I had no air compressor, and I heated a little too much the old screen, so translucid leaves (that are behind the LCD screen) made a "wave" on right side... And I also had to take the LCD part by part cause it was already broken and really nicelly pasted ! So I put lot of little glass parts in(between also) the leaves...
I cleaned it at the sunlight so I was able to see the maximum of remaining particles... Cleaned each side of each leaf with a cloth for cleaning glasses....
The result is not perfect, but the image is here on the whole screen...
THANK YOU AGAIN for that tutorial !! Great Job!!!

Thank you Louis, very generous of you to share so much details. I fixed my daughter's cracked retina screen. Guess what?? i shattered the cracked screen when trying to remove it. At last, a video for the lcd matrix only! Thanks for uploading! I figured it would be complicated, but at least I now know how its done. So if I ever break the screen on my MBP retina, its good to know that there is a cheaper alternative to replacing the whole lid.
However, it would probably turn out with some minor flaws, no matter how careful the job is done. Those backlights are not at all tolerant to the slightest mark, piece of dust, or ripple. Also, dust might get in after the repair, because a DIY tape job is probably not going seal the screen perfectly. I work at a repair shop myself, and my boss would probably not allow me to attempt such a repair. It would be too risky because the replacement screen is so fragile, and the backlight is super sensitive. And I am sure that a customer would not appreciate a random fingerprint or piece of hair permanently trapped in their screen.
I will say, this guy did a fantastic job. I have no doubt that that MBP will continue for work for years to come. I however feel that this repair is more for DIY'ers, not for professional repair shops. I might attempt this on my own MBP, but I would probably replace the whole lid on a customer's MPB.

Thank you so much for this tutorial!
Managed to open up my screen and check that the display cable wasn’t properly connected to the pin and thats why it wasn’t working.
I had replaced the whole assembly before for a similar issue and figured why the hell not. Turns out the backlit cable wasnt connected.
You just saved me 300$ for a fix AND managed to fix the original screen as well!

I probably missed it, but I didn't see where you took off the second protective film off the double sided tape along the bottom of that silver colored bracket (the one you forgot to put on the first time around) 56:50 . I got the impression that it didn't get peeled off and the protective film is still on there. Not that it hurts anything, just not as secure. 59:50 Of course I might have missed it when you did.

Great job Milan & Louis! Been following the procedure quite well but stumbled upon an LCD (perhaps compatibility) problem.. I was replacing the LP133WQ1 SJE2 screen with what happened to be an LSN133DL02 A01 on late 2013 A1502 and the backlight wouldn't turn on. The screen itself was working just fine when illuminated with external light, and backlight too when connected to the old SJE2 LCD controller board, so I reckon the logic board issues with backlight drivers/fuses should be ruled out...
So, what I wanted to ask you is whether the SJEV is a compatibile replacement for SJE2 screen ???

Discovered your channel after trying to figure out what's wrong with my MacBook Pro Retina display. Subscribed! Good stuff! I realize this video is a few years old, but was hoping you might know what is causing the display on a 2014 MBP 15" retina to be dimmer than normal? The brightness control works fine, I have toggled autobrightness on and off, and I can make screen go all the way dark, but it never seems to go full brightness, even though the control indicates it's all the way up. Instead, it is about 70% of the brightness of my other 2014 MBP 15" retina. This is a new replacement display. Problem was immediately apparent when I got it back from a repair shop and booted up. Thank you for any suggestions!

Nice job Louis. I have a MacBook Pro 13" A1278 model. It developed a white straight line vertically slightly to the right of the middle of the screen. I can see that the outer glass is fine and intact and has no crack. I don't know about the LCD. Do you think the LCD is damaged? I can see it is not a sofware thing because the white line does not disappear even when I boot up.

Clean adhesives with acetone (be careful with plastic parts), then with alcohol.
And try to rub the rubber with glycerine with your bare fingers (one drop would be more than enough). Glycerine would give back grip to the rubber, and also protects rubber from ageing. Maybe you would not need to place the rubber with tape anymore ;)

Excellent - and realistic - video. While I've worked on laptops for years, I'm not really a mac person and opening them up is a bit foreign to me. Looking at prices for the entire assembly, I had pretty much decided not to repair the 2015 MBP that finally cracked on about the 5th drop. I run Linux with the Plasma 5 Desktop Environment, and through some creative use of empty panels was able to have the entire desktop displayed in the undamaged part of the screen. So, the computer was actually useable - and I had decided to leave it at that, or just trash it. The usual lineup of videos on mac repairs showing a near surgical environment and a dozen specialized tools and unnecessary equipment (a battery isolation something or other, for f*ck sake) weren't helpful because that isn't the environment I'd be working in. I appreciate not editing out the f*ck ups. This video probably saved a laptop from the scrap heap. Thanks..

Hi thank you for this helpfull video.
I have a small question if you have a time. Is it possible to replace A1502 Display with A1278 display. I mean can I use my old macbook pro nonretina display for the new retina model. If not what happens if i replaced?
    Thank you.

I run an IT and phone repair business in the UK but don't deal with SMD level repair - I send the boards up to someone like yourself Louis. He primarily does iPhone board repairs but I have started sending him MacBook motherboards with schematics and he does a good job, however it's expensive postage as I have to send up the entire Macbook. Is there any kind of LCD adapter I could get for him so that he only needs one LCD and a particular adapter for each MacBook model?
