Louis Rossmann what brand for those double sided tapes you use? I followed your video to open the frame and fixed a problem with one of the lcd cables. Thank you! Btw, your ebay store link is not working
Hey can you provide the exact width on both the clear and black tape you used for this replacement, i dont want to have to stand in Home Depot for an hour guessing which size rolls i should buy only to get the wrong ones LoL
Louis, you saved me. Thanks for this very informative video. I just saved myself $1000+ to buy a new mac because Apple told me my mac was "vintage"... it's a 2010 MacBook air. I replaced the screen myself and it looks good as new. Thanks again.
I don't work with this stuff, nor am I a business owner. However, for some weird nerdy reason I still enjoy your videos ... a lot! Thank you much appreciated :)
+Nonameslol yeah, I will probably never touch a macbook, but I also loved to watch this video. You can pick so many small things to be applied in somewhere else when looking at people who know what they're doing do stuff like this.
I sit here watching this video which is still one of the only ones i can find that actually shows just replacing the display and not the whole unit which seems just like an apple thing to do. in the video you mention you'd just hit 50k subs and as i'm watching your on 1.1m! nice work. Been watching you for years. Keep up the good work!
Thans man! Just replaced a screen using your video. Took me 4 hours. First watched the old video, then this new and then took my time to replace it. I used a hair dryer to warm up the adhesive. Setting the hair dryer to blow cold air, I used it to blow of the dust of the backlit screen.
10:45 unscrewing 13:37 disconnecting the screen cables 15:57 second cable 16:44 removing the LCD 28:30 putting the new adhesive to right and top 30:30 reconnecting the screen 34:18 screwing back the metal cover 35:50 putting new adhesive to bottom 36:00 Connecting the cables of the new screen 40:38 Screwing the new lcd's interface 41:00 Turn on the screen to check for dust 42:18 putting new adhesive to left
I sit here holding my breath at times watching you do stuff like this and think to myself Im so glad thats not me doing that, Im sure I'd balls it up. I find it quite therapeutic watching you tackle these jobs with somewhat ease on your part. Have you screwed many up in the past in gaining your knowledge today? Experience is a wonderful teacher as they say... :-) Keep up the great work, your my NEW hero...lol - Thumbs up from the UK :-)
Great detailed video showing not only screen repair but good skills when working on such delicate equipment. I hope everyone can appreciate how much effort you put into this video. I sure do. Thank you for sharing your great skills.
Ciao Milan, this is great job. Following carefully your instructions I did save 400€ and did this in less than 2 hours ( I have been very careful... ;-) ). Wife took care of the bezel cleaning and adhesive, Son looked after Dad who initially plugged the backlight-flex upside-down ... a small break with a glass Sangiovese ...so in the end, everyone happy ! - Olivier in Denmark
Louis This video is 5 years old yet I watch this still. Oh my God your comments are awesome and just make me laugh. I mean "now 50,000 people can see you don't know how to work a camera" "yes YES more of this hidden shit." I know your point isn't to be funny but damn are you funny!
The amount of bullshit Apple goes through to make sure you pay half the price of your Apple product just to get it fixed by their "engineers" is amazing. Very educational video,. Thanks for sharing.
I really enjoyed this video for some reason, I dont do apple repairs anymore but it's interesting to see my own habits in some of your repairs. Keep up the good work Louis
When I worked for a repair shop for audio / video equipment I learnt that alcohol is better than windex or related products, because windex leaves a thin film most of the time. I don't know if that's a problem for those bezels, but when working with lenses for optical drives, or video tape recorder heads (yes, it's been a while...) then this is critical. These days, when working with laptops, smartphones and tablets, I still prefer to use alcohol, because it leaves no trace, and is dried up in no time.
For people asking, I think he uses "double sided adhesive transparent acrylic tape" look it up on google. The other tape he uses is classic double sided tape. This is just my guess. Hope it could help, i saw nothing in the comment section. Thanks for the video !
When you remove the adhesive from the bezel you can use some alcohol to loosen the bond between the tape and bezel, it should help you remove it in one piece. Great video and great channel. Thank you so much for it!
+Dima Duca It winds up becoming a goopy mess that way. I've tried. The best for me when I have patience is putting it in the oven at 300f, take it out, and rip it all off.
I've had an adhesive that's even more prone to ripping than the clear one on the display bezel. What helped me get it off cleanly is to get the same or another strong adhesive around my finger with the sticky side out and continuously stick it to the adhesive and pull it back. This makes the adhesive come off very-very cleanly.
Louis as a Machinist who has dealt with glue/tape you should see if WD-40 messes with the color of the bezal and if it does not soak it with WD-40 at the beginning and after a few minutes take a scraper and you can remove it then clean the WD-40 off and dry it and done.
thanks louis i could replace my mackbook air 's screen after following your video step by step ,however your explanation is somehow tricky and do some steps very quickly it may lead to fail in replacement of the screen , but your are the best in doing this replacement , after all i appreciate and grateful for your good explanation in this video i could save around 400 USD by replacing my macbook screen ,
loved the bit about not touching customer machines, reminds me of when i worked in a repair shop, guy brought in a laptop and said he had a house party and his "friends" pissed on his laptop, he wanted to know if it could be fixed/data recovered, told him that i flat out refuse to touch it lol
"If you rip the backlight flex, the Apple engineers win, and you don't want the Apple engineers to win - they're douchebags!" ... why I watch Louis even though a have no intention of attempting these repairs...
A really good product to remove the left over adhesive from the bezel and from the Macbook Pro Glass panel is 3M Automotive Adhesive remover spray. It's really nasty stuff but works like a charm on most adhesives.
Thanks so much for your video, it helped me repair my brothers macbook air perfectly. Never tried anything like this before other than basic diy, or cleaning things out. Excellent instructional video, thanks alot dude
Louis, both LVDS and DisplayPort use differential lanes to transfer video data. It's a common way for all high speed interfaces - USB, Ethernet, PCI, etc. Another thing is that it is actually possible to have random noise on the screen which uses eDP connection. The protocol does not guarantee integrity for the entire frame. And that's not only a theoretical thing - I've seen this shit in my own laptop when I messed with a DisplayPort connector.
Good thing i found your video because i have a macbook air a1466 now in our shop for me to check if its a lcd problem or flex problem then while i was removing the bezel the screen kinda cracked on the upper left side .. But when i saw ypur video and you said about removing the old adhesive because it may cause the screen to crack solve my problem .. Because the lcd has been replaced once and they didn't remove the old adhesive so that may have been the cause why the lcd cracked :)
Just curious, why not apply the double stick tape to the bezel and then to the case/LCD? Any benefit doing it either way? Thanks for the show. Learning a lot.
if your carful yes you can use polystyrene cement glue but get model adhesive its easier and can be applied with a brush you get in the pot very accurate for making models remember glue everywhere when you was a kid !
Btw, this is one repair I just would never attempt myself. I do everything else I can myself like taking engines apart of German cars and put them back in if I want to , but this...no no no. Leave it to the pros with that patience! Thanks for the video though this one is much more professional than the original I remember lol. :P
Hey Louie, great job teaching 👍🏽. Thanks. I have an A1466 model (2013) screen that I'd like to replace. Any suggestions on where to purchase the screen.
Hey Louis… A friendly shout out from Canada! I’m hoping to save you a bit of effort, and in turn, some sanity. There is a wonderful product called REMOVE medical adhesive removal pads. You can find them on Amazon. If you go over the surface several times (4-5), and let it soak in for 2 to 3 minutes, the adhesive will scrape right off, like a hot knife through butter - using a nylon spudger. Being that it’s medical grade it is safe for use on both metals and plastics! I usually follow up with a quick wipe down with iso alcohol, Just to be sure the surface is “clean enough to eat off of!” Cheers brother… And keep on keeping on! :-)
Thank you for this! You really explained well and emphasized the pitfalls of the delicate processes and the details helped me accomplish this repair with the knowledge needed to perform properly. So why are those screws covered in tape? Must be a reason!?
Louis. Great Work. I just Started Watching your videos yesterday. And You do Great Work. I'm kinda like you Love the Challenge.. And I Agree with you On its Very Important to have the Right Stuff to do the Job.. Its like trying to do a Brake Job on a Car with only a Ajustable Wrench. It Might can be done with only that.. But I bet you would have more Problems Then its Worth. Just Spend the Extra Money to get the Right Stuff..
Hello Louis, thanks for sharing your video. Very helpful. I got a MacBook Air 13" A1466 mid 2012. I am trying to get it if the mid 2012 version is the same as mid 2013. Looking forward to listen news from you. Much love. Ricardo
Excellent video!!! Can you list what you can for the different adhesive tapes you used, such as the black tape, and the clear adhesive with the red color? One thing I was wondering is could you use a solvent to help remove the old adhesive from the bezel, such as Goo-gone?
Hey Louis, good video. Unfortunately I failed twice to do this procedure. $440 bucks down a rat hole. Going to strip out the usable parts and throw the damn thing away. Growl.
Mr Rossmann, What kind of tape was that you were using? Looks like a 3m 2 sided tape possibly??? We inadvertently ruined an Air screen 2 weeks ago trying to repair it... (We repair mostly windows machines...) Wish we could have seen this vid before destroying a $200 screen!!! Going to give it another shot after seeing your outstanding vid!!! We are also doing minor MB repairs now thanks to your vids. (Mostly power connectors, I know, very simple, but you gotta start somewhere, right???) Keep it up young man, and Thank You!!! (If we kill the screen, we'll send you the machine for parts ;-)
Hey Louis nice video I like your attitude... I have MacBook air A1465 a bit older than this one and it was holding up very well so far but recently a vertical thin pink line appeared on the screen just in the middle I guess where the screen connects to the logic board... what would you say the repair would cost? I tried pram reset which didn't help....
Thanks for your video. Unfortunately, I made a mistake. I also removed the polarizer and the two other slides. Will the Polarizer be at the front or the back? Behind the other slides? Hope you can help me! 🙌
Excellent video tutorial and couldn't have replaced my LCD without it. Just have one issue though, after I powered up, the green isight camera light comes on and stays on. It on from the time I hit the power button and remains on even with the laptop in sleep mode. I tried updating, resetting the SMC & PRAM, also checked to see if the wire was cut or moved but nothing. It also shows no cam connected in the apps and system menu. Any suggestions on what can be causing this or how to fix?
Louis - Love your videos man, you're awesome at what you do. I'm about to attempt this repair for the first time, is there any other little bits you can think of to look out for when doing this repair? Thanks in advance :)
Have you ever tried using a playing card to remove the bezel? I found that to be much easier for removing the glass on older MacBooks instead of using a metal spudger, I haven't done an air screen with it before though.
"That's not my job" might not be a big deal in a small repair store with little room for advancement, but I think it does.. If you do everything and more in that little shop and decide to go and try to do something bigger and better, when that little shop owner is called for reference, and he says "Oh yea, does a great job, goes above and beyond for me, and i'm gonna be sad to see him go"... THAT is where it pays off....
great vid man. I'm doing this next week if I can find the tape and tools needed by then. At 28:40 are you applying that clear adhesive right NEXT to the deeper display layer or just adjacent to it? I couldn't quite tell as I saw it pop up a few times and you didn't seem bothered. Thanks in advance!
You're missing one huge detail is that REMEMBER to remove/disconnect the battery when doing this screen replacement for Mac or laptop in general. Lots of newbies out there and they're going to eventually f*ck it up by shorting either screen or motherboard. Seen it , been there, done that :)
Louis what type of gloves would you recommend for this kind of work? I do lots of pc/mac repairs and cut my hands on the thin metal. I would put gloves on its just I find that the delicate touch goes out the window when I can feel the components as well.
Hello Louis. I have a quick question. I hope you can help me with something. I have a MacBook Air 2017 and both hinges are broken. Is there a change to replace them (I already have them) by removing the bezel without breaking the screen or the screen connectors?Thank you!
great video. scary, but great. my problem is, i have had a repair shop look at my MacBook air, and they reckon it's the panel, and wanted to charge me more than the cost of a decent 2nd hand MacBook air to replace it. so, I said no thanks. But before i buy a replacement panel, how can I check it's IS the panel that needs replacing?
Wouldn't it be more beneficial to detach the display assembly from the base? Love your videos, and are probably going to follow this to change a 2015 Macbook Air 13.
The companies where a lot of people say "This is not my job" are usually the ones where employee morale is low anyway. No-one is enthused or passionate about it. Which says a lot about the company more so than the employees. A small company that takes care of employees? Or even a large one, yeah, people will put in that extra time and effort, because it's recognised.
hey louis i recently did the same on my asus zenbook but i'm having problems getting some decent adhesive. can you tell me which adhesive you use and where one would go about purchasing it?
Thank you to everyone who made a purchase on eBay via our affiliate link at rossmanngroup.com/ebay for helping support this type of content. Your viewership is appreciated and as always, I hope you learned something!
Louis Rossmann what brand for those double sided tapes you use?
I followed your video to open the frame and fixed a problem with one of the lcd cables.
Thank you!
Btw, your ebay store link is not working
did you have to wipe everything (photos, videos, etc.) in order to fix the laptop?
Definitely the hard drive is unaffected during the process, so you won't have to worry about all your files.
Hey can you provide the exact width on both the clear and black tape you used for this replacement, i dont want to have to stand in Home Depot for an hour guessing which size rolls i should buy only to get the wrong ones LoL
Great work..,
But damage COF (Chip-On-Film).

+GoodGame Clips lmao I scrolled down to post exactly that quote
haha was literally gonna quote him on this and I saw you beat me to it :D
I don't work with this stuff, nor am I a business owner. However, for some weird nerdy reason I still enjoy your videos ... a lot!
Thank you much appreciated :)
+Nonameslol I'll never understand why this is for people. but I accept and thank you for viewing!
+Louis Rossmann perhaps it's because I like to learn a lot and these videos help me expand in my knowledge in tech repair, might I need it one day

Haha, I was like "Dude you'll burn the screen with the hot spatula!!!" but then I remembered that it was broken to begin with. Nice video Lou!
+piratapan the old screen can eat it
OMG. I love the way you take care of things man. Respect.
Louis, you're really making it hard for yourself. At this rate you'll never get that Apple job.
Lol

You make me feel so bad for buying a macbook ~_~ in nearly every one of your videos. I love it.
+Xerdies I'd like to say to you and everyone who bought an Apple product: Thanks for taking one for the team! :)
successfuly installed the LCD thanks to your video. IOU $5.
What adhesive tape did you use?
You sound like a very fair Boss Louis.
Great video as always!

Nice work Louie! I don't think i'll ever do this, but still.
Lol same aswell
very nice and smooth you have a lot of pride in your work which is good to see
Thanks so much for your video, it helped me repair my brothers macbook air perfectly. Never tried anything like this before other than basic diy, or cleaning things out. Excellent instructional video, thanks alot dude
Screw Apple, I'm getting an Orange.
Outstanding video, thank you.. I am a new yorker and what you said about people calling is true and hilarious. Thank you once more and keep up.
It is great watching a master at work! Thx so much.
You should be a doctor ! So much endurance in one video. Good luck Louis !
Good thing i found your video because i have a macbook air a1466 now in our shop for me to check if its a lcd problem or flex problem then while i was removing the bezel the screen kinda cracked on the upper left side .. Dude your funny shit. Keep this up. Your video quality is always awesome. I much rather the closer camera work today.
Just curious, why not apply the double stick tape to the bezel and then to the case/LCD? Any benefit doing it either way? Thanks for the show. Learning a lot.
Hi Louis,
Thanks for this video, I was able to replace the LCD by following your steps.
But yes....it's a pain in the ass. Keep up with your videos.
Gratz on 50k! Louis to the moon! Also i have those Wera screwdrivers... they are great!

Hey Louie, great job teaching 👍🏽. Thanks. I have an A1466 model (2013) screen that I'd like to replace. Any suggestions on where to purchase the screen.
I never worked with repair and I don't expect I ever will, but super interesting content nonetheless! thanks!

Thank you Louis for this video, as usual from you, great video! A question, where can I buy the LCD panel for that laptop?
Hello Louis, thanks for sharing your video. Very helpful.
I got a MacBook Air 13" A1466 mid 2012. I am trying to get it if the mid 2012 version is the same as mid 2013.
Looking forward to listen news from you.
Much love.

thank you for all the aesome useful videos. really helps a lot!
Louis, you are hilarious! Thanks for this video.
I love how achieve inner peace is a step in removing the glued in shit XD

Necroing to hell here but, it's 3M Scotchcal reflective tape, it's disgusting how they did it.

Great Job! What size Adhesive tapes were used in this replacement?
Great channel, learning a lot much appreciated dude.
+NetPwn thank you for watching!

Very useful video! Now I understand I will never do this!
great vid man.
Great video Louis! What are the sizes and types of tape are you using?
good video, thanks for share but what tools you use and where you buy?
You're missing one huge detail is that REMEMBER to remove/disconnect the battery when doing this screen replacement for Mac or laptop in general. Lots of newbies out there and they're going to eventually f*ck it up by shorting either screen or motherboard. Seen it , been there, done that :)
+tipt0p Q 7706 ensures that that no power is going to the back light circuit while the computer is off. I don't worry about that at all.
Outstanding work and attitude.
Thank you!
Louis what type of gloves would you recommend for this kind of work? I do lots of pc/mac repairs and cut my hands on the thin metal. I would put gloves on its just I find that the delicate touch goes out the window when I can feel the components as well.
Is it possible to put a retina screen on a 2017 MacBook Air?
Good job Louis i give you 19/20 👍👍👍👍👍👍👌👌👌👌👌
+Larbi Kamla 21/20
Hello, how many mm measure the double-sided?
thanks for everything!
If you got that cord upside down for the backlight as you were discussing, would that create a short and fry the backlight fuse on the motherboard?
Likely
@@rossmanngroup Thank you
Hello Louis. I have a quick question. I hope you can help me with something. I have a MacBook Air 2017 and both hinges are broken. Is there a change to replace them (I already have them) by removing the bezel without breaking the screen or the screen connectors?Thank you!
Is this the same procedure for a mid 2012 macbook air?
yes it is the same procedure
great video. scary, but great. my problem is, i have had a repair shop look at my MacBook air, and they reckon it's the panel, and wanted to charge me more than the cost of a decent 2nd hand MacBook air to replace it. so, I said no thanks. But before i buy a replacement panel, how can I check it's IS the panel that needs replacing?
Wouldn't it be more beneficial to detach the display assembly from the base? Love your videos, and are probably going to follow this to change a 2015 Macbook Air 13.
No. Unnecessary work, just more to potentially screw up that way.
well informed video and no bullshit and straight forward / thank you
all the methods to the madness :) coming to the end of this now :)
+Allison Pell yep
Nice work L, shit looks easy when you do it!
+Jony Darksy It is a nightmare
