I was in 2 PARA. In 1967? We played enemy against the 101 Airborn. The exercise was meant to last 2 weeks. On day 2 we captured the whole of 101’s ration supply. The umpires declared a win for 2 PARA. The exercise was restarted when we returned the rations.😂 It was a great exercise. After the exercise finished we set up beer tents we had a great time with our brothers 101. The exercise was in Munster eifel in Germany. Happy memories.😊

Wasn't what the chaps in the 8th had to say during the invasion of Sicily. They issued instructions to kill the Americans first if they made contact with the Germans. The 8th were utterly pissed off with the sheer volume of the friendly fire incidents whenever the Yanks got involved.
Reminds me of something I read a while back. So during the Korean War, some US Marines decided to post a sign outside of their barracks that read, "USMC: second to none!" The Royal Marines did the same. Their sign read, "Royal Marines: none."
One thing about Brits is our understatement. My favourite example: During the Korean War, Brigadier Tom Brody and his 600 men were pinned down by thousands of hostiles. When he reported the the UN Joint Command he said things were “a bit sticky”. The yank who received that message didn’t realise that was a bad thing and so no reinforcements were sent. They held off approximately 30,000 Chinese soldiers at the Imjin river, killing thousands of them before being overrun. They were credited with saving Seoul and 2 Victoria crosses were given

When I was serving, we did an exercise with our American brothers in arms on Soltau training area in Germany. It was probably the most fun I’ve ever had on exercise. Brilliant bunch of guys. 🇬🇧🇺🇸🇬🇧🇺🇸🇬🇧🇺🇸
In response to the English language question at around 8.15, using big words means you can use fewer small ones. It also displays a certain standard of education in the Royal Marines and beyond. None of them are dumb; they are 'free-thinking' soldiers, independently capable of making important tactical decisions when separated from the usual chain of command.
The saying was if you wanted to attack a built up area ie city and want most of left standing send the RM if you want to attack the same place and dont care whats left standing send the paras in you get the same job done just one force thinks and plans every detail the other force sets out to destroy everything they see . the point is RM s are usaly the school boy book worm where the members of the paras were more likely the school yard bully brains vs brawn

I've come across some really thick bootnecks. I would say the Marines are prey equal in ability but they have different roles.
I love this guys videos. He’s never biased he says it as it is. I respect that. I think all our marines, whether it be Royal Marines American marines, Dutch marines or any marines working together will absolutely get the job done. Some of the best trained non special forces soldiers out there.
Royal Marines are part of the uk Special Forces mate. Us Marines are just grunts. Us Marines are the equivalent of an army squad. A better comparison would royal Marines v navy seals or army rangers.
Trying to give the impression that armies from 4 countries formed a larger coalition in order to fight the US Marines is misleading. They were pretty equal in size.
One common thing talking to British and US marines, particularly ones that fought in the same field of operations is the tremendous amount of respect they have for each other, easily some of the bravest, humblest and and friendliest ex-serviceman I've had the honor of speaking with.

Having deployed on a large number of multi-national tours over the years, I have always found it in parts amusing and reassuring how certain nations always seem to gravitate together and get along with each other. Fond memories especially of working with the Norwegians, Swedish, Czechs, Polish, Aussies, Canadians and Yanks

We used 3D printing to make repair parts for HE. 3D printing is more than just printing plastic parts. We have metal printers for heavy metal parts. So in a combat area, we could print a part in a couple hours rather than waiting days for a shipment or taking a piece of gear out of the fight. It's actually pretty cool if you look into it
Printing metal is actually extremely long. You got possibility to obtain fancier shapes compared to casting, but in return it takes much longer than casting and you have wider tolerances compared to casting. Also at the end for both technologies you still need to finish the part using machining.
Same here. 41 Commando during and after the War. I have his now rusty knife and my grandma had a giant photo behind glass with Royal Navy ships anchored at Tigne in Malta with the new Queen sitting at the front and all the crew scattered over the front of the ship some sitting on the guns. I think my granddad was sitting on one of them with other Royal Marines wearing their Number 1 Full Dresses. I forget the name of the ship tho'. He also had a lot of medals. (For really being in battles and not having a crap as he use to complain about the other Allies)
Good on you.. one of my great uncles was on HMS AJAX another was an RSM in the chindits in the jungle for nearly 4 years.. my grandad lied and drove lorries logistics. My grandmother made ammunition in the soap factory.. another great uncle had his hand blown completely off. And refused to go home..I could go on and on

@@anthonywright6237 absolutely. I tell my 13 year old son about what his great grandfathers did. One was in the army infantry and served in France, Italy, North Africa and Germany. The other was in the Commandos. My dad told me that my grandfather parachuted into Greece. They were all split up and he hid in a bush for 3 days with the Germans all around him. Thankfully he made it out. He was 22 when he did that. Unbelievable. I try to tell my lad about what all these young men did for their country. Gets me a bit emotional too, even watching World at War or Saving Private Ryan imagining the terror and pain they went through, and all the loved ones at home who never really knew how or where they died.
People who underestimate the Royal Marines, have never served or fought alongside them. They are tough, aggressive and utterly ruthless by design. Taught to think creatively outside the box and revel in doing the unexpected. Also nicest blokes in the mess.
Its this training that makes all marines better because they can try different tactics and learn from each other. An its great the USA have these massive facilities to enable it to happen. Especially with new technology like drones etc, have to keep updating tactics and using current tech in new ways to gain the advantage.
I served in the Grenadier guards and went on an exercise with the US marines as enemy in Latvia some years ago. Great bunch of lads. All us Brits traded all of our issued warm kit for chewing tobacco and we were freezing in the -14 degree temperatures haha. But we were okay because we had mouths full of grizzly wintergreen hahaha.

The Royal Marines are a completely different force to the USMC the bar is set higher in recruitment and basic training as were a massively smaller force British forces focus on intensity of training over numbers of trained boots

Royal Marines are not a British version of the Usmc. They are essentially closer to being an elite force of Naval Rangers, vice naval infantry. It would be better to compare Marine Recon/Raiders to Royal Marines then Marine Inf. That is no slight to Marine Infrantry.
Special forces recruit from existing service personel that have atleast undergone basic training within another branch of the military, the majority Royal Marines come directly from civilian recrutment with no previous experiance while the training may be seen as being on par with that of american special forces they are not technically British special forces. The Royal Marines are the ground force of the Royal Navy in exaclty the same way as the USMC are the ground force of the USN.

From the exerpts in Finnish news apparently the UK marines destroyed the american command post and support section which then snowballed to a counter offensive from the US.marines and to their subsequent defeat after losing 2/3 of their combat readiness in troops and material.
The Royal Marines are trained to a more specialised level than US Marines. Bear in mind US marine corp is the size of the whole uk army. Due to budget cuts the uk has had to turn the Royal Marines into a small sub special forces elite group. They will be becoming increasingly more specialised due to extra training and investment implemented at the start of 2021. Even to the degree that 42 may even become a 21/23 regiment SAS level force. The US marines is a more ‘grunt’ elite force. They are like the US army in that they are better trained and have higher fitness levels but aren’t universally a specialised force like all Royal marines are now. There are of course Sections of the US marine corp who are higher level trained and more like Royal Marines .
The UK military in general is Elite , now the UK have the 4th largest defence budget in the world , the UK government have said they are never cutting military budget again only increasing it.

The main fighting force consisted of Royal Marines and Dutch marines. The Canadians and USMC units provided support functions and the Arabs sat behind drinking coffee and looking hard.

For those who weren’t involved in the training exercise. Royal Marines defended Range 220 were supported by MARSOC, 7th Marines, V 2/5, 3/11, Dutch Marines, and UAE against Hawaii based 3rd Marines.
Yes, I work with the US Marines, and talked to the 29 Palms training teams, they told me that the event was a blended unit event so you can not say that one Country beat another Country military because they worked together on both sides, as they would in the real world.
No wonder they beat the Hawaii Marines, you have 7th Reg whose home is in the stumps supporting the Royal Marines. But I guess is better propaganda for the UK to say that their Royal Marines defeated the US Marines lol.

It's good because not only does this training lead to innovations and stratagems used to win battles, but it strengthens the soldiers bonds and understanding of how their allies work, leading to greater cohesion and ultimately, to more of these men coming home alive, regardless of which side of the Atlantic their home lies.
No other forces took part in this ex, it was purely RMC vs USMC. 150 RMC vs 1500 USMC, RMC absolutely demolished USMC. Same ex happened again about 2-3 months ago, 150 RMC vs 1500 USMC, Navy Seals, Marsoc, Rangers and the French combined. RMC yet again demolished the enemy forces.

As a Brit I would just like to say what I glean from this is that, we really enjoyed the training facilities. As you pointed out the opposing force is supposed to lose. Our forces always embellish the way their training ops sound. Some of the claims I laugh at. All I can say is, with the allied armies dissolving tank regiments in favour of landing support groups, Pacific camo being put into production and our collaborative training. It sounds like we are going into the Pacific pretty soon for some sort of military involvement.
I’m an ex British Army JTAC, thanks buddy for this response as it saved me having to explain it all. Yup 👍 they are supposed to lose, we managed to enjoy 29 Palms exercise area, it probably culminated in a big final firefight as these always do, as the USMC were acting as the red force we would of had a big talk on prior to the final end all clash, then it was probably beers in the FIBUA houses & sometimes they put on a BBQ for all the lads/nations involved, it was at the end of my only time training in the US, had a great time & managed to swipe some Gucci kit as any good UK squaddie would, I remember swapping stuff like my spare beret for some head to toe gortex waterproofs in the times when we were still being issue the crap crisp packet type plus I got some knee pads & a SF helmet which was great to use as I didn’t have to wedge the handset 📞 of my radio & as I said a great time had by all, free beer, as much meat 🥩 as you could eat & that prize of a night when end ex had been called so no guard duties & weapons had been handed back in so completely non tactical. It's an expectation and readiness thing, the Western militaries have been so geared towards desert fighting and counter insurgency due to the last 30 years of warfare that they have realised that they need to stop focusing on that. The Pacific is getting hotter and it is the next most likely area for some sort of geopolitical crisis.

I feel privileged to have England 🇬🇧 (the entire U.K. actually) standing shoulder to shoulder with us (U.S. 🇺🇸). They are incredibly tough, resourceful and do so much with a 'disproportionately' ; ) smaller force. So all that stand with us and who we stand with thank you.

Hilarious, because in pretty much every single exercise like this, the US is the one purposefully and explicitly hamstrung with having no fire support or electronics, while the British are almost always given special forces, artillery, UAVs, and air support. And the British are often assisted by attached American special forces, like Marine Recon, which brainless Brits neglect to mention every single time.
from the looks of it, it was less of a competition, and more of an evaluation to see how long the marines can last while heavily outgunned and outnumbered, without support, and on the offensive. because the royals were not alone. they were with dutch and UAE marines, along with marsoc and a few ODAs, while being supported by 2 us marine battalions, artillery, and aircraft. if this was a competition, then holy shit was it one-sided.

@@thenordicescape keep in mind too, there were us marines “fighting” alongside the royals. and it just wasn’t a few mortar teams or anything like that. it was 2 full battalions (the 2/5 and 2/7 i believe), which equals to about 1,000-2,000 marines. also the royals had canadian forces with them, on top of the UAE and dutch.
the U.K dropped 2 nukes on america with out them knowing america back in the cold war wanted to test out its air defence against the red army and the u.K sent 2 vulcan long distace boomers over to test it out aparanty the flew under the golden gate bridge flew up sidedown the hudson river before dropping the boomers and flying home with out detection. the last bit was a bit made up but the U.K did nuke the us twice in the 60s as part of an exersise. there is documentary called when the uk nuked america twice think its on here
Hi, Maritime guy here with a quick definition of one of the terms if you're unfamiliar with it: Littoral (the computerized voice keeps pronouncing it as "literal". It's Lit- tore-al). It means close into shore, shallow waters and shore line. If these Royal Marines are going to be acting as raiders on shoreline facilities on the Suez, it makes total sense to train here. Anyway, just my two cents.
That’s the “literal” definition of the “littoral” but littoral warfare is much more complex and in [military] depth than that. “Littoral manoeuvre is exploiting the access and freedom provided by the sea as a basis for operational manoeuvre from which a sea-based amphibious force can influence situations, decisions and events in the littoral regions of the world. The ability to deploy a land force from a sea base is a key capability of the maritime force.” This means in amphibious landing terms it’s as far inland as can be supported from the sea, 100kms+
I'm glad we have bunch of guys learning to specialise in and around the littoral zone. It's a highly sensitive area, and too often ignored while going for the bigger more obvious targets. Mastering it can bring many unexpected benefits, and while she may not straight out thank you for it, the results should speak for themselves.
Always loved going on exercise in the US. Working with 101st, 82nd, Rangers, SEALS and USMC on Operations and exercises is always a blast. It's good to see a different way of working and how we can compliment each other. Individually we are good, together we are unstoppable.

@@aa-up4sf yes and no. Large forces do not good forces. The casualty rate the Russians wide take would be unbelievable. The key component is would the Russian Federation use CBRN? They lack comparable war fighting equipment and trained personnel. They do however have a differing view of asymmetric warfare. Thats where they wpuld do most damage.
@Dick Izzinya that report from USMC was just trying to save face,they were totally embarrassed by the speed of the result. The result wasn't a huge surprise as the Royal and Dutch marines are a more specialised unit than the USMC,the speed at which they achieved it was a surprise. Regardless of the result it was an exercise trialling new technique and technology from which all side's will benefit, run the same test tomorrow when they know what to expect and the results will definitely be different.
The RM don't have the luxury of calling in a Hummer or Helo after running 1/2 a mile or when the going gets tough so are likely that much fitter and can be self reliant not requiring higher commands to make decisions and direction. A RM can, and is trained, to think on his feet and question something if he has an alternative plan that may be better not blindly just blindly follow orders from above to the letter regardless.
I think we will have to wait and see to find out what actually happened. Those type of robot voice videos just beat around the bush and give out irrelevant information so they can make it past the 10 min mark. From what I’ve heard the British were up against the US. The RM were implementing a new battle tactic and after sustaining heavy simulated casualties the US forces asked for a reset a couple of days in to the 5 day exercise. Without sounding disrespectful it’s what I would expect from the RM if there is no numerical advantage from opposing side. After all they’re very highly trained.
Robot voice? Not sure if you think it's a computerized narration or are just busting his balls on how he sounds?🤭 The narrator is British and sounds like what they call, a news reader, on the radio. Not very robotic in his delivery since something like that is fairly monotone and lacking emphasis🤔
The us marines started with 80% of the territory the uk/dutch 20%. The uk/dutch ended with 62% and obliterated nearly all of the targets of the us marines, and all the major ones. The us generals wanted a reset after 2 1/2 of the 5 days of the exercise according to our media outlets.
@@Jeff.78 The way it talks, it’s definitely a bot, it does the thing where it doesn’t pause for punctuation or where a normal human would take a breath. An example of this is if you listen closely starting at 7:35, when it’s quoting someone, it unnaturally speeds through a sentence when usually you would stop if it was a person.
As an ex Para I’d expect nothing else from the RMC.. we are are the best for a reason. Mental fitness is the first and foremost..everything else is as important but nobody touches weapons, tactics, drill and and maps until they are run ragged and at the upmost fitness. Fitness and admin wins wars..
Very misleading title. As mentioned the RM's were part of a coalition that included US marines too. However I believe it was the RM's that carried out the 'behind enemy lines' raids that led to the counter offensive and ultimately the 'victory'. Not that it's really about winning or losing, but learning from each other and both(or all in this case) getting better.
I read a report on this from the BBC stating that the US side had to request a unplanned "reset" (whatever that means) half way through the duration of the exercise as almost all their men and vehicles had been "knocked out" unexpectedly early. That requested reset might be what they mean by surrender in this context.
FFS, the Yanks are like the kid that owns the football "we're no playing unless I get to be Barcelona ". USMC "we're no playing unless I get a restart".
US, GB and NL marines are very professional and highly trained for any situation training with and against each other is good for training purpose. I know first hand that every Dutch Marine is trained in Independent thinking and being able to make their own decisions while being flexible and adapt to any situation which makes them very tough in any situation.

I'll never forget the night of the "drinking contest " (no contest, just fun) between US Marines (not grunts, but still Marines) and some Royal British Commandos. Mind you, I am Navy, there to watch over the health of my Marines. I had to help my Marines prove their "worth"!! What a fun night in that very small Danish enlisted club. Arhus? Something like that. Early 80's. It was the best!! This was a NATO base so the countries involved were all there. However, the permanent personnel to this base had their own club (much more sedate) where I met many interesting people. One of my favorite deployments. The locals loved having us there and enjoyed practicing their English, which was very, very good, even the older people. Denmark is very nice!!

You sure about that, how do you explain them losing the war in Northern Ireland. How do you explain a bunch of farmers and factory workers taking on the biggest empire in the world and forcing them into surrender. The also did it with inferior weapons and little to no military training whatsoever. Special Forces all over the world now use the same tactics. It is also no coincidence that the very unit (Irish Rangers) who achieved the success for the Irish rebels went onto become the 1st ever SFs unit, and the most successful.

@@ShireTommy_1916_Somme-Mametz No they don't follow the SAS. The, Irish Rangers trained the 1st ever SAS and Navy Seals. The Irish Rangers were 1st formed in 1920s, the SAS wasn't until WW2 and even then they were referrd to as the frog men, not the SAS. The Navy Seals weren't formed until after the Vietnam War as they were first used on a trial period for a secret mission during the Vietnam war. A Navy Captain called Ray Marcinko ( not spelt correctly, but you get what I mean) set them up and asked the Irish Rangers to fly over and train them. As I already pointed out, the Irish Rangers are the most successful SF unit in the world, and considering I served in the unit I'm sure I'd know a bit more on the topic. For future reference it helps to actually know what you're on about before you incorrectly comment and make a fool of yourself.

I operated as part of a multi national group immediately post 911 which covered anti terrorism and anti piracy. At one stage we all mustered in Crete for a rest and resupply. The Batan was part of our group and the thousands of US Marines on her set up a beach on the side of the quay where we had one hell of a party. We were sat with a US Marine Colonel and he told us of his time spent with the Royal Marines. He went on to say that the Royal Marines are the tip of the knife and he was in charge of a hammer! Royal Marines are free thinking soldiers trained to a higher level and he witnessed all groups he worked with operating more akin to Seal units. Anyway, that 9 months operating together utilised both the hammer and the knife amazingly well and it was some trip 👍🏻🇬🇧🇺🇸
I teach 3D printing at Manchester Metropolitan University in the UK and we’re working with the US military to develop digital manufacturing skills. The US navy also employ 3D printers with experts and typically Markforged 3D printers on board ships.
It's not even a bad thing to lose to allies though, it's valuable experience and information,and possibly be helpful to improve. And to go against much more experienced and more highly trained personal it's definitely not embarrassing.
I have played opposing force multiple times and we were never told that we should expect to loose. We always played to win. Now generally we were a Coy vs a Bn or a Bn vs a Rgt so we almost always lost the Ex, but we won a lot of engagements along the way, especially against the Cdn Airborne Rgt.
It’s very satisfying and assuring to see professional soldiers working on and sharpening their craft. It’s the parallel opposite of seeing videos of Chinese or North Korean “soldiers” just marching around a town square.
Brother everyone knows it would not be embarrassing for anyone to lose a battle to the RMC. They are close to Tier one Soldiers. The Marines aren't in the same equivalent position in the American forces food chain. You know that. Ultimately though who cares. Most important is we are allies and the RMC and The US Marines are very tight brothers in arms!!
I just think it's great that we're all together defending the free world. These exercises are honing all our skills and sharing. Just a side note. Have you ever considered taking on the all arms commando course and getting the green beret? I reckon you'd get through it unlike me, I didn't finish it. As. usual great vid.

Whoever recommended this video to you needs their nuts stomping, the narration offered zero operational insight and only really covered the basics of OGD, repeating itself twice to bring the video up to monetization length. Strong points from yourself as always and i get that you can't always tell how a video is going to turn out with a blind reaction, this was just one of the poorer ones on their part and no fault of yours.
It is not only possible but also very likely. The selection course for the royal marines is the toughest in the world. Once selected the training courses are highly specialised and produce soldiers trained beyond that of the US marines.
The LRS is a new name for an old idea. The Marines were always the first port of call simply because there was a section or Platoon on every vessel. Larger elements were called up as required. However, in recent years they have been treated more like regular infantry. This is to bring back and extend their skill sets.

I recall a huge exercise we had vs US army in Germany around 2011/12. Was supposed to be a multiple week exercise but after 24 hours we had to restart the exercise because we had wiped the floor with em. Great camp and great lads the yanks though always had fond memories when meeting em 🇬🇧🇺🇸
As a non military guy, I assume you learn just as much regardless of which side your on in a training exercise? It must be really helpful for the US to have a large number of foreign military units to train with / against. If you only ever trained US vs US I'm sure that would be a bad thing?
if it was the SBS."special boat service" involved with the Royal Marines then the US marines would have had little hope in the exercise they are the top of the tree in terms of UK special forces.

I was going to jump in and rant pretty hard, because the misinformation in this news story is pretty upsetting. I had the pleasure of participating in this most recent MWX in 29 Palms and from the experience I had, I just want to at least clear up that whoever wrote the news story that had this title was extremely misinformed. As you mentioned before, many other countries were involved with elements from the USMC on both sides. That being said I don't know how anyone could think that the Brits alone had humiliated anyone when they had US Marines on their own side and elements from other countries on both sides were also responsible for the majority of the actions taken as well. The pause ex and reset that took place was due to four misplaced 7-ton trucks that had not been accounted for. Nothing against the British Commandos at all they did a phenomenal job! Them coupled with a MARSOC team helped provide security for my team, due to us being considered high priority targets. It was sick to work close with them, they're true professionals. Point is, these days people can say whatever suits they're opinion and label it "news" and sadly this is one of those cases.
Mmm, ok so you think that the Royal Marines are incapable of handling the US marines on any exercise? They are similar when it comes to levels of training so it is pretty normal that a RM commando unit could overcome a US unit and vice versa. No big deal!!
Training being tought to other countries with the RM Commando doing the teaching the could have done it themself what 1500 men when the RM have aroud 8k highly traind soldiers they bring in other countries to teach them how to do new things and learn to work together as said why not just send 1500 RM to do it the exercise was being carried out under british command the traing the RM got was to see how they could work with other countries and they learnt things to if 1500 RM did it alone it would have ttaken 1 da not 2 because no language problems ect it was nothing to do with what countrie the sodiers came fom it was the orders they followed
Having spoken to a royal marine who was in the command room for this exercise he said the article was bollocks, there were a mix of US marines and Royal Marines vs US marines, the ‘surrender’ was very much not that, the article mainly just pissed off a lot of the US officers in its inaccuracy
As a Brit I have to laugh at the knee jerk "Brits are the best" comments. As the video states it wasn't just the Brits against the US, it was also the Dutch, Canadians and the United Arab Emirates forces working together against the US forces.

The point is, the tactics weren’t new or trained. The RMs were allowed to operate independently and basically ‘do what they do best’ The RM adopted small team rapid assault tactics and crippled the USMC force within days. It was only _after_ this, the RM tactics were adopted and rolled into the main training.
I was in 2 PARA. In 1967? We played enemy against the 101 Airborn. The exercise was meant to last 2 weeks. On day 2 we captured the whole of 101’s ration supply. The umpires declared a win for 2 PARA. The exercise was restarted when we returned the rations.😂
It was a great exercise. After the exercise finished we set up beer tents we had a great time with our brothers 101. The exercise was in Munster eifel in Germany. Happy memories.😊

Wasn't what the chaps in the 8th had to say during the invasion of Sicily. They issued instructions to kill the Americans first if they made contact with the Germans. The 8th were utterly pissed off with the sheer volume of the friendly fire incidents whenever the Yanks got involved.
My son was on that Ex and they told me how they wiped the floor with the US forces. Pretty embarrassing for them.

In response to the English language question at around 8.15, using big words means you can use fewer small ones. It also displays a certain standard of education in the Royal Marines and beyond. None of them are dumb; they are 'free-thinking' soldiers, independently capable of making important tactical decisions when separated from the usual chain of command.
The saying was if you wanted to attack a built up area ie city and want most of left standing send the RM if you want to attack the same place and dont care whats left standing send the paras in you get the same job done just one force thinks and plans every detail the other force sets out to destroy everything they see . the point is RM s are usaly the school boy book worm where the members of the paras were more likely the school yard bully brains vs brawn

I love this guys videos. He’s never biased he says it as it is. I respect that. I think all our marines, whether it be Royal Marines American marines, Dutch marines or any marines working together will absolutely get the job done. Some of the best trained non special forces soldiers out there.

Trying to give the impression that armies from 4 countries formed a larger coalition in order to fight the US Marines is misleading. They were pretty equal in size.
One common thing talking to British and US marines, particularly ones that fought in the same field of operations is the tremendous amount of respect they have for each other, easily some of the bravest, humblest and and friendliest ex-serviceman I've had the honor of speaking with.

Having deployed on a large number of multi-national tours over the years, I have always found it in parts amusing and reassuring how certain nations always seem to gravitate together and get along with each other.

We used 3D printing to make repair parts for HE. 3D printing is more than just printing plastic parts. We have metal printers for heavy metal parts. So in a combat area, we could print a part in a couple hours rather than waiting days for a shipment or taking a piece of gear out of the fight. It's actually pretty cool if you look into it
Printing metal is actually extremely long. You got possibility to obtain fancier shapes compared to casting, but in return it takes much longer than casting and you have wider tolerances compared to casting. Also at the end for both technologies you still need to finish the part using machining.
Yeah, I saw something that showed them printing their own recon/suicide drones before they launched their theoretical attack.

My grand dad was a British Commando in WW2. I’ve got his cap badge, a photo of him with his ‘training intake’ and his war medals. Very proud too.
Same here. 41 Commando during and after the War. I have his now rusty knife and my grandma had a giant photo behind glass with Royal Navy ships anchored at Tigne in Malta with the new Queen sitting at the front and all the crew scattered over the front of the ship some sitting on the guns. I think my granddad was sitting on one of them with other Royal Marines wearing their Number 1 Full Dresses. I forget the name of the ship tho'. He also had a lot of medals. (For really being in battles and not having a crap as he use to complain about the other Allies)

@@anthonywright6237 absolutely. I tell my 13 year old son about what his great grandfathers did. One was in the army infantry and served in France, Italy, North Africa and Germany. The other was in the Commandos. My dad told me that my grandfather parachuted into Greece. They were all split up and he hid in a bush for 3 days with the Germans all around him. Thankfully he made it out. He was 22 when he did that. Unbelievable.
I try to tell my lad about what all these young men did for their country.
Gets me a bit emotional too, even watching World at War or Saving Private Ryan imagining the terror and pain they went through, and all the loved ones at home who never really knew how or where they died.
People who underestimate the Royal Marines, have never served or fought alongside them. They are tough, aggressive and utterly ruthless by design. Taught to think creatively outside the box and revel in doing the unexpected. Also nicest blokes in the mess.

Its this training that makes all marines better because they can try different tactics and learn from each other. An its great the USA have these massive facilities to enable it to happen. Especially with new technology like drones etc, have to keep updating tactics and using current tech in new ways to gain the advantage.
I served in the Grenadier guards and went on an exercise with the US marines as enemy in Latvia some years ago. Great bunch of lads. All us Brits traded all of our issued warm kit for chewing tobacco and we were freezing in the -14 degree temperatures haha. But we were okay because we had mouths full of grizzly wintergreen hahaha.
We traded our vehicles’ machetes for USMC cot beds in the desert..

The Royal Marines are a completely different force to the USMC the bar is set higher in recruitment and basic training as were a massively smaller force British forces focus on intensity of training over numbers of trained boots

Royal Marines are not a British version of the Usmc. They are essentially closer to being an elite force of Naval Rangers, vice naval infantry. It would be better to compare Marine Recon/Raiders to Royal Marines then Marine Inf. That is no slight to Marine Infrantry.

Special forces recruit from existing service personel that have atleast undergone basic training within another branch of the military, the majority Royal Marines come directly from civilian recrutment with no previous experiance while the training may be seen as being on par with that of american special forces they are not technically British special forces. The Royal Marines are the ground force of the Royal Navy in exaclty the same way as the USMC are the ground force of the USN.
You can always tell Brits in a sunny environment - we the ones with bright red sunburnt faces. We actually glow at night.

From the exerpts in Finnish news apparently the UK marines destroyed the american command post and support section which then snowballed to a counter offensive from the US.marines and to their subsequent defeat after losing 2/3 of their combat readiness in troops and material.
The Royal Marines are trained to a more specialised level than US Marines. Bear in mind US marine corp is the size of the whole uk army. Due to budget cuts the uk has had to turn the Royal Marines into a small sub special forces elite group. They will be becoming increasingly more specialised due to extra training and investment implemented at the start of 2021. Even to the degree that 42 may even become a 21/23 regiment SAS level force. The US marines is a more ‘grunt’ elite force. They are like the US army in that they are better trained and have higher fitness levels but aren’t universally a specialised force like all Royal marines are now. There are of course Sections of the US marine corp who are higher level trained and more like Royal Marines .
The UK military in general is Elite , now the UK have the 4th largest defence budget in the world , the UK government have said they are never cutting military budget again only increasing it.

For those who weren’t involved in the training exercise. Royal Marines defended Range 220 were supported by MARSOC, 7th Marines, V 2/5, 3/11, Dutch Marines, and UAE against Hawaii based 3rd Marines.
Yes, I work with the US Marines, and talked to the 29 Palms training teams, they told me that the event was a blended unit event so you can not say that one Country beat another Country military because they worked together on both sides, as they would in the real world.
No wonder they beat the Hawaii Marines, you have 7th Reg whose home is in the stumps supporting the Royal Marines. But I guess is better propaganda for the UK to say that their Royal Marines defeated the US Marines lol.
To be fair the UK wins vast amounts of it's war games. They have been doing war for a few thousand years longer like, with pretty much everyone 🤣

It's good because not only does this training lead to innovations and stratagems used to win battles, but it strengthens the soldiers bonds and understanding of how their allies work, leading to greater cohesion and ultimately, to more of these men coming home alive, regardless of which side of the Atlantic their home lies.
No other forces took part in this ex, it was purely RMC vs USMC. 150 RMC vs 1500 USMC, RMC absolutely demolished USMC. Same ex happened again about 2-3 months ago, 150 RMC vs 1500 USMC, Navy Seals, Marsoc, Rangers and the French combined. RMC yet again demolished the enemy forces.
It's great training with our Royal "cousins", even more fun to pull liberty together :) Been a long time sice I was active in the Green Machine, happy Birthday to all my Marine family. Semper Fi.
As a Brit I would just like to say what I glean from this is that, we really enjoyed the training facilities. As you pointed out the opposing force is supposed to lose. Our forces always embellish the way their training ops sound. Some of the claims I laugh at. All I can say is, with the allied armies dissolving tank regiments in favour of landing support groups, Pacific camo being put into production and our collaborative training. It sounds like we are going into the Pacific pretty soon for some sort of military involvement.

Yup 👍 they are supposed to lose, we managed to enjoy 29 Palms exercise area, it probably culminated in a big final firefight as these always do, as the USMC were acting as the red force we would of had a big talk on prior to the final end all clash, then it was probably beers in the FIBUA houses & sometimes they put on a BBQ for all the lads/nations involved, it was at the end of my only time training in the US, had a great time & managed to swipe some Gucci kit as any good UK squaddie would, I remember swapping stuff like my spare beret for some head to toe gortex waterproofs in the times when we were still being issue the crap crisp packet type plus I got some knee pads & a SF helmet which was great to use as I didn’t have to wedge the handset 📞 of my radio & as I said a great time had by all, free beer, as much meat 🥩 as you could eat & that prize of a night when end ex had been called so no guard duties & weapons had been handed back in so completely non tactical. It's an expectation and readiness thing, the Western militaries have been so geared towards desert fighting and counter insurgency due to the last 30 years of warfare that they have realised that they need to stop focusing on that. The Pacific is getting hotter and it is the next most likely area for some sort of geopolitical crisis.

I feel privileged to have England 🇬🇧 (the entire U.K. actually) standing shoulder to shoulder with us (U.S. 🇺🇸). They are incredibly tough, resourceful and do so much with a 'disproportionately' ; ) smaller force. So all that stand with us and who we stand with thank you.

Hilarious, because in pretty much every single exercise like this, the US is the one purposefully and explicitly hamstrung with having no fire support or electronics, while the British are almost always given special forces, artillery, UAVs, and air support. And the British are often assisted by attached American special forces, like Marine Recon, which brainless Brits neglect to mention every single time.

From a training point of view the USMC would learn more from how they got defeated.
from the looks of it, it was less of a competition, and more of an evaluation to see how long the marines can last while heavily outgunned and outnumbered, without support, and on the offensive. because the royals were not alone. they were with dutch and UAE marines, along with marsoc and a few ODAs, while being supported by 2 us marine battalions, artillery, and aircraft.
if this was a competition, then holy shit was it one-sided.

keep in mind too, there were us marines “fighting” alongside the royals. and it just wasn’t a few mortar teams or anything like that. it was 2 full battalions (the 2/5 and 2/7 i believe), which equals to about 1,000-2,000 marines.
also the royals had canadian forces with them, on top of the UAE and dutch.

Hi, Maritime guy here with a quick definition of one of the terms if you're unfamiliar with it: Littoral (the computerized voice keeps pronouncing it as "literal". It's Lit- tore-al). It means close into shore, shallow waters and shore line. If these Royal Marines are going to be acting as raiders on shoreline facilities on the Suez, it makes total sense to train here. Anyway, just my two cents.
That’s the “literal” definition of the “littoral” but littoral warfare is much more complex and in [military] depth than that.
“Littoral manoeuvre is exploiting the access and freedom provided by the sea as a basis for operational manoeuvre from which a sea-based amphibious force can influence situations, decisions and events in the littoral regions of the world. The ability to deploy a land force from a sea base is a key capability of the maritime force.”
This means in amphibious landing terms it’s as far inland as can be supported from the sea, 100kms+

I'm glad we have bunch of guys learning to specialise in and around the littoral zone. It's a highly sensitive area, and too often ignored while going for the bigger more obvious targets. Mastering it can bring many unexpected benefits, and while she may not straight out thank you for it, the results should speak for themselves.

Always loved going on exercise in the US. Working with 101st, 82nd, Rangers, SEALS and USMC on Operations and exercises is always a blast. It's good to see a different way of working and how we can compliment each other. Individually we are good, together we are unstoppable.

The result wasn't a huge surprise as the Royal and Dutch marines are a more specialised unit than the USMC,the speed at which they achieved it was a surprise.
Regardless of the result it was an exercise trialling new technique and technology from which all side's will benefit, run the same test tomorrow when they know what to expect and the results will definitely be different.

The RM don't have the luxury of calling in a Hummer or Helo after running 1/2 a mile or when the going gets tough so are likely that much fitter and can be self reliant not requiring higher commands to make decisions and direction. A RM can, and is trained, to think on his feet and question something if he has an alternative plan that may be better not blindly just blindly follow orders from above to the letter regardless.

I think we will have to wait and see to find out what actually happened. Those type of robot voice videos just beat around the bush and give out irrelevant information so they can make it past the 10 min mark.
From what I’ve heard the British were up against the US. The RM were implementing a new battle tactic and after sustaining heavy simulated casualties the US forces asked for a reset a couple of days in to the 5 day exercise.
Without sounding disrespectful it’s what I would expect from the RM if there is no numerical advantage from opposing side. After all they’re very highly trained.

The us marines started with 80% of the territory the uk/dutch 20%. The uk/dutch ended with 62% and obliterated nearly all of the targets of the us marines, and all the major ones. The us generals wanted a reset after 2 1/2 of the 5 days of the exercise according to our media outlets.

An example of this is if you listen closely starting at 7:35, when it’s quoting someone, it unnaturally speeds through a sentence when usually you would stop if it was a person.

Very misleading title. As mentioned the RM's were part of a coalition that included US marines too. However I believe it was the RM's that carried out the 'behind enemy lines' raids that led to the counter offensive and ultimately the 'victory'. Not that it's really about winning or losing, but learning from each other and both(or all in this case) getting better.
I read a report on this from the BBC stating that the US side had to request a unplanned "reset" (whatever that means) half way through the duration of the exercise as almost all their men and vehicles had been "knocked out" unexpectedly early. That requested reset might be what they mean by surrender in this context.
Only 'unexpectedly early' for the USMC. Apparently fully-expected, on time, and exactly to plan for the Royal Marines.

US, GB and NL marines are very professional and highly trained for any situation training with and against each other is good for training purpose.
I know first hand that every Dutch Marine is trained in Independent thinking and being able to make their own decisions while being flexible and adapt to any situation which makes them very tough in any situation.

I'll never forget the night of the "drinking contest " (no contest, just fun) between US Marines (not grunts, but still Marines) and some Royal British Commandos. Mind you, I am Navy, there to watch over the health of my Marines. I had to help my Marines prove their "worth"!! What a fun night in that very small Danish enlisted club. Arhus? Something like that. Early 80's. It was the best!! This was a NATO base so the countries involved were all there. However, the permanent personnel to this base had their own club (much more sedate) where I met many interesting people. One of my favorite deployments. The locals loved having us there and enjoyed practicing their English, which was very, very good, even the older people. Denmark is very nice!!

How do you explain a bunch of farmers and factory workers taking on the biggest empire in the world and forcing them into surrender. The also did it with inferior weapons and little to no military training whatsoever. Special Forces all over the world now use the same tactics. It is also no coincidence that the very unit (Irish Rangers) who achieved the success for the Irish rebels went onto become the 1st ever SFs unit, and the most successful.

The Irish Rangers were 1st formed in 1920s, the SAS wasn't until WW2 and even then they were referrd to as the frog men, not the SAS. The Navy Seals weren't formed until after the Vietnam War as they were first used on a trial period for a secret mission during the Vietnam war. A Navy Captain called Ray Marcinko ( not spelt correctly, but you get what I mean) set them up and asked the Irish Rangers to fly over and train them. As I already pointed out, the Irish Rangers are the most successful SF unit in the world, and considering I served in the unit I'm sure I'd know a bit more on the topic. For future reference it helps to actually know what you're on about before you incorrectly comment and make a fool of yourself.

I operated as part of a multi national group immediately post 911 which covered anti terrorism and anti piracy. At one stage we all mustered in Crete for a rest and resupply. The Batan was part of our group and the thousands of US Marines on her set up a beach on the side of the quay where we had one hell of a party. We were sat with a US Marine Colonel and he told us of his time spent with the Royal Marines. He went on to say that the Royal Marines are the tip of the knife and he was in charge of a hammer! Royal Marines are free thinking soldiers trained to a higher level and he witnessed all groups he worked with operating more akin to Seal units. Anyway, that 9 months operating together utilised both the hammer and the knife amazingly well and it was some trip 👍🏻🇬🇧🇺🇸
I teach 3D printing at Manchester Metropolitan University in the UK and we’re working with the US military to develop digital manufacturing skills. The US navy also employ 3D printers with experts and typically Markforged 3D printers on board ships.
It's not even a bad thing to lose to allies though, it's valuable experience and information,and possibly be helpful to improve. And to go against much more experienced and more highly trained personal it's definitely not embarrassing.

I have played opposing force multiple times and we were never told that we should expect to loose. We always played to win. Now generally we were a Coy vs a Bn or a Bn vs a Rgt so we almost always lost the Ex, but we won a lot of engagements along the way, especially against the Cdn Airborne Rgt.
Wonder if they'll ever bring those guys back.

It is not only possible but also very likely. The selection course for the royal marines is the toughest in the world. Once selected the training courses are highly specialised and produce soldiers trained beyond that of the US marines.
The LRS is a new name for an old idea. The Marines were always the first port of call simply because there was a section or Platoon on every vessel. Larger elements were called up as required. However, in recent years they have been treated more like regular infantry. This is to bring back and extend their skill sets.

I recall a huge exercise we had vs US army in Germany around 2011/12. Was supposed to be a multiple week exercise but after 24 hours we had to restart the exercise because we had wiped the floor with em. Great camp and great lads the yanks though always had fond memories when meeting em 🇬🇧🇺🇸

I was going to jump in and rant pretty hard, because the misinformation in this news story is pretty upsetting. I had the pleasure of participating in this most recent MWX in 29 Palms and from the experience I had, I just want to at least clear up that whoever wrote the news story that had this title was extremely misinformed. As you mentioned before, many other countries were involved with elements from the USMC on both sides. That being said I don't know how anyone could think that the Brits alone had humiliated anyone when they had US Marines on their own side and elements from other countries on both sides were also responsible for the majority of the actions taken as well. The pause ex and reset that took place was due to four misplaced 7-ton trucks that had not been accounted for. Nothing against the British Commandos at all they did a phenomenal job! Them coupled with a MARSOC team helped provide security for my team, due to us being considered high priority targets. It was sick to work close with them, they're true professionals. Point is, these days people can say whatever suits they're opinion and label it "news" and sadly this is one of those cases.

Training being tought to other countries with the RM Commando doing the teaching the could have done it themself what 1500 men when the RM have aroud 8k highly traind soldiers they bring in other countries to teach them how to do new things and learn to work together as said why not just send 1500 RM to do it the exercise was being carried out under british command the traing the RM got was to see how they could work with other countries and they learnt things to if 1500 RM did it alone it would have ttaken 1 da not 2 because no language problems ect it was nothing to do with what countrie the sodiers came fom it was the orders they followed

Having spoken to a royal marine who was in the command room for this exercise he said the article was bollocks, there were a mix of US marines and Royal Marines vs US marines, the ‘surrender’ was very much not that, the article mainly just pissed off a lot of the US officers in its inaccuracy
As a Brit I have to laugh at the knee jerk "Brits are the best" comments. As the video states it wasn't just the Brits against the US, it was also the Dutch, Canadians and the United Arab Emirates forces working together against the US forces.

The point is, the tactics weren’t new or trained.
The RMs were allowed to operate independently and basically ‘do what they do best’
The RM adopted small team rapid assault tactics and crippled the USMC force within days.
It was only _after_ this, the RM tactics were adopted and rolled into the main training.
