What gets me about this movie, and Independance Day and Moonfall and and and... is that it COULD be read as "the big powers were wrong not to listen to the scientists", but the lesson a whole generation of people took was "the mainstream were wrong not to listen to this one crazy guy who Did His Own Research", and that's part of the problem. The average joe didn't learn to listen to science, they learned that you can most trust the loner with the crazy theory that no authority takes seriously.
