In the book, its a little more serious - Bones has the guy use scissors and chop Chili's hair in different places to humiliate him before they leave. Then the two barbers fix it, giving him a really short haircut. It lowers Chili's opinion of Bones even more that they do that instead of roughing him up a little. Travolta's last truly great role and Farina is amazing as usual.
I never read the book but I prefer the movie version because Chilli stays cool and him knowing the henchman shows that Ray Bones isn't all that powerful nor even liked. The fact that he can only get a henchman because he can't speak spanish speaks volumes.
At the 1:05 mark, we get an English grammar lesson. Soo funny. E.g. stands for exempli gratia and means “for example.” I.e. is the abbreviation for id est and means “in other words.” Ergo means "therefore". Class dismissed.
Martin Ferrero was in that scene. He was in the pilot of Crime Story playing a fairly bad thief who was brought into the station by Billy Campbell’s character Joey Indelli. Had a few scenes with Farina’s Torello.
@@Capcoor thats what a gitl i dated when i was 19 said, complaining about the other woman i was dating.:) "how high??" Both of em 5 feet tall and both tough girls. :) (and both cute as buttons!)
Easy done. 18% of 10 grand is 1800 Since he knows its 15 grand, you have to add another half of that on top 1800 + 900 Equals 2700 If you were in that business it should only take a couple of seconds to calc that in your head, especially if you are working with 18% regularly
Oh man, the repeated use of the phrase "Look at me, Harry" in various dramatic contexts and it's always bad news for Harry!! First Chili said it to him. Then Ray Bones. Then Martin Weir. Hilarious!!
E.g. is for examples (“I have many cars, e.g., a Ford, a Fiat, a Chevy, etc.”). I.e., is for clarification (“I have many cars, i.e., vehicles for transport”).

The problem according to Strunk and White is those abbreviations are only for the written word. Tryin' to help. Benefits of a good public education from the '70's. I love that even Ray's bodyguard doesn't like him.
Right lol
Too bad he can't speak Spanish (they're in Miami lol)
MikeMJPMUNCH Many (most?) people don’t like their boss.
Chilly just seems to have that effect on bodyguards
I love that even the bodyguard knows the difference between "i.e." and "e.g."

Didn’t know there was a book.
Don't remember that. I read it back in the 90s. This is one of my favorite movies. Farina is brilliant, as you say.

Never got around to reading the book but this was a brilliant role for Travolta
@@brianrushford4057 Yeah I hope Travolta makes a comeback seems like such a nice guy.
The annoyed look Chili gives when Ray’s bodyguard puts scissors to his throat…
Like “Really??”
Dennis Farina-- what a fun actor he was.
A real life cop too.
Rest in Peace Dennis Farina he always had very good comedic timing
Watching him right now in Midnight Run!
Don't go to England!
Bones, “How do you know he’s dead, did he tell you he’s dead?”
Chili, “Yea Ray he told me
Bones, “Personally”
Such sharp writing ✍️ 😂🤣🤣

There should have been a cameo role of Samuel L Jackson teaching that English lesson!
One of my all time favorite movies, and this scene is one of the best scenes ever.
1:24 is the funniest
@@stefanmovieflixtomasi I always laugh out loud when I hear him say that 😂
E.g i.e. F you 😂
I love how Chilli corrects him. EG means "for example" correcting "his (mafia) captain"
"To the best of my knowledge, e.g. means 'for example.'"
e.g. i.e eff you ok!
Dennis Farina was funny af in this flick ...one of Travoltas best movies
If you haven't seen him in "Midnight Run," he's very funny in that, too. Great comedy movie.
God I love this movie. And this scene will forever live rent free in my head
Same Lol
"E.G., I.E., F**K YOU!!…"
Dennis Farina was simply the best in this😂
I still think of this scene when to remember the difference between eg and ie
I love it when the thug breaks his work persona for an honest answer. "Not these days. Unless you speak Spanish."
Hilarious
I cry 😭 laughing when he says Mo Mo with all that nose congestion
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
And then Ray Bones snort through his swollen nose after saying "show me the proper respect". LOL
😂
I really feel like Chili should've said, "Bobo? Who's that? Some f'ing clown?"
god i miss dennis farina
One guy in the shop was chased by a T Rex the other by Godzilla
This was a well thought out movie,I really liked it.Part two,however.....
In this scene Ray Barboni speaks like he's got a bad cold, but he had a run in with Chilli Palmer earlier in the film...
Martin Ferrero was in that scene. He was in the pilot of Crime Story playing a fairly bad thief who was brought into the station by Billy Campbell’s character Joey Indelli. Had a few scenes with Farina’s Torello.
He was also the lawyer in Jurassic Park. The T-Rex victim.
I wish Chili explained 'Less Than vs. Fewer'. That one I can never remember.
One of my top ten movies.
Still can't believe they were only charging Leo 3% a week for 15k. 90s were good livin
EG vs. IE. This scene was how I leaned what they meant.
I LOVE when writers play on the English language and words like that 😆 🤣 😂 😹 Shane Black is notorious for doing this too 😆 🤣 😂
can't even get the "When i say jump ... " line right, LMAO
Lyle W He didn’t necessarily get it wrong. He just varied it a bit.
Rick O'Shay Supposedly, the real way to say it is, “When I say jump, you jump! or “When I say jump, you say “ how high?”

Impressive that Chilly can calculate the vig in his head .18 x 15,000 = 2,700

Great follow up to Pulp Fiction
Along with Be Cool
Pulp fiction was too dark and be cool lacked actors and the chemistry between actors get shorty had.
Look at me Harry.
Oh man, the repeated use of the phrase "Look at me, Harry" in various dramatic contexts and it's always bad news for Harry!! First Chili said it to him. Then Ray Bones. Then Martin Weir. Hilarious!!
Actually, neither i.e. nor e.g. make sense in that context.
Farina's character was, however, correct with "ergo."
E.g. is for examples (“I have many cars, e.g., a Ford, a Fiat, a Chevy, etc.”).
I.e., is for clarification (“I have many cars, i.e., vehicles for transport”).
Yeah, we saw the clip man
1:40 - Wait. Is that Gennaro, the slimy lawyer from Jurassic Park?
It's movies like these that I want to be an English major 😂😂
This one's in the wrong spot on the playlist; it's placed last.
My favourite scene
You got a biss Leo Devoe
Dennis Farina was great in this movie!
everybody at the top of their game
Bones trying to do 3rd grade math, comedy gold
Not unless you speak Spanish🤣🤣🤣🤣
the juice is 18 percent in case anyone was wondering
@@richardfruge3275 Leo was six weeks late so the 18% juice is 3% a week.

AFI's 100 Years...100 Laughs - Nominated
The irony is that Ray - despite being an idiot - was right that the Leo situation wad suspicious.
Christmas wish=a copy of this CLASSIC WHERE MIDLER SCENES ARE CUT AND/OR BETTER ACTRESS INVOLVED!!!!
"orange man bad"
That's Mr. Bone
This movie feels like a Tarantino film.
Ralph Manza as the barber
AWESOME MOVIE !!!
Yes it is.
Great ensemble.

Unfortunately in today's world this hilarious battle over grammar usage will go over people's heads. 😵💫😵

Every other major Elmore leonard movie, they cast comedians and it takes all the air out of the comedy.

They're both wrong, e.g. stands for "Example Given."
nah it's Latin, it stands for 'exempli gratia'
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
worst movie JT ever made. think he wanted to do at least one tough guy mafia film. unconvincing. you know he's about 5'2" tall right?
6'2" according to IMDB
You probably like stupid stuff like twilight
height means nothing in the mob world...
it's a comedy
You're an udit. JT crushed this role. And he's definitely not short. Dude is like 6'2"
