    DS3218 20kg servos, good compromise. I am delighted with your work. When I was looking for a Robot for my purpose, I couldn't find any good options. Your robots are the best there is. I develop software using AI and neural networks. I would like to give the mind of such a robot.

    I have been waiting for this cheap model for a long time and I am aware that better servos are the best way but due to my committed incomes this would be out of my reach now my son and I will hopefully be able to make it somehow¡¡

    Will you consider making a video series on teaching inverse kinematics for hexapods, so that we would be able to go from a complete beginner to making functional code for a basic gait for a hexapod project?

    WOW! amazing movement for such cheap motors. very well done!
    I've been noticing you're using the RP2040 servo controller- could you PLEASE tell me where are the "servo" and "button" libraries? I'm trying to run the examples of the board but these libraries seems to be missing and giving me a really hard time..

    looks interesting. How are the servos powered? Do you use a lipo and a step down converter?
    I think the most annoying thing about these servos is that they can't handle 7.4v or more.

    • @MakeYourPet
      @MakeYourPet  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah the voltage was an issue. that's why I used a 6V NiMH instead of a lipo to avoid the step down.

    I just wish someone would create good cheap servos, ones with position feedback and current control like dynamixels have. It shouldn’t be that difficult either, just take a servo with decent mechanical parts and replace the control board with a magnetic encoder, current sensor, MCU and motor driver. It would add to the cost but if bought in bulk it wouldn’t add much and could probably be made to fit in the existing housing. We have good cheap stepper motor drivers, with silent operation, high levels of micro stepping, current limits, stall detection, etc, even closed loop stepper drivers aren’t that expensive, why don’t we have anything similar for servos? They all just use not the best quality potentiometers which also limits their rotation and generic servo driver chips. There is a large market for it so I’m surprised no company has come and done it yet.
    They could even make a servo driver chip that has all of those functions built in and then loads of manufacturers could put them in their servos.

    • @MakeYourPet
      @MakeYourPet  ปีที่แล้ว

      The closest to what you said that is available in the market are the hiwonder bus servos. but they are basically just a regular servo with a serial interface, so the accuracy is the same. but they provide some basic feedback at least.

    • @conorstewart2214
      @conorstewart2214 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MakeYourPet Didnt know about them but yeah they are pretty much just a standard servo with a uart interface and temperature, voltage and position feedback. They also have more expensive ones that have magnetic encoders but again they dont have current or torque control.

    Will the robot be able to construct and understand its environment, distances to objects, and its trajectory using only the camera?

    • @MakeYourPet
      @MakeYourPet  ปีที่แล้ว

      In theory, all of that is doable just with the camera (what Tesla cars do). But based on the processing power and the available libraries that I can use on Android, the actual result may be different. But some basic stuff like face detection and low accuracy 3D mapping should be achievable.

    when will the 3d print files for the cheapo be available? and will there be a way to control the hexapod with a Ps4 / 5 controller at some point?

    • @MakeYourPet

  • @bgrant1512
    @bgrant1512 ปีที่แล้ว

    This would be a cool project but for the fact that it uses a phone. Have you considered doing a version replacing the phone with a PI or Arduino mega ?

    • @MakeYourPet
      @MakeYourPet  ปีที่แล้ว

      I may in the future. but using a phone and all of its components and sensors is part of the cost cutting which you wont get using anything else.

    • @bgrant1512
      @bgrant1512 ปีที่แล้ว

      ESP32s are cheap and a 3 axis sensor isnt very expensive. If you can share the source your using on the phone Id be willing to take a crack at the code.

  • @BarisAlp
    @BarisAlp ปีที่แล้ว

    Why do you persistently want to use a usb connection with cable? You know, you can do this with wifi or bluetooth. And you get equipment that is readily available everywhere. Like esp32+i2c servo drivers and many more...
    All hexabots are generally open source and we develop different things in their footsteps. Are you considering making it open source?

    • @MakeYourPet
      @MakeYourPet  ปีที่แล้ว

      What you are not considering is the phone comes with a ton of other stuff and is not just a micro controller. For example if you add the camera, IMU, gps, cell connection, touch screen, super powerfull processor and GPU and ram and the onboard battery, the cost of using a typical microprocessor will rise exponentially. And not even considering all the complexity of wiring up all those components. Also the software development tools for Android are literally unmatched. The code is not open source. As you said there are many other open source solutions out there that can be used if you are interested.

    • @BarisAlp
      @BarisAlp ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MakeYourPet No, you misunderstood me. I agree with you, the android phone is a great idea. I mean the servo drive system. Phone with bt/wifi to any arduino system+servo. And I'm interested in quadruped robots.

    • @MakeYourPet
      @MakeYourPet  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BarisAlp ooh yeah that totally makes sense. The cheaper servo controllers don't have a wireless module so the usb was the only option. I am totally open to that idea.

      that's just the filament I had, you can print yours in whatever color you like. I don't think painting adds any weight. I actually did it in this color to paint it metallic copper later. Coming in the next video.
